Alfonso suddenly became aware that it may not have been the brightest idea to just blurt out his identity. But for this girl to know he had a sister; she must be an entity. Bennie wasn't exactly proud of being Alfonso's twin (in fact, she quite liked to deny it. "That bully who takes all the cute girls? Ugh. Hardly a brother of mine," she would say.)
But for this entity to immediately ask about Bennie was unusual. Afterlife didn't even know Bennie, did she? And if Shoe was right beside Alfonso, that really made Life the only plausible choice.
Still, there was no need to jump to conclusions. Besides, Alfonso still had yet to answer her question.
"You know of my sister Bennie?" he asked, tilting his head. Beside him, Shoe's fur bristled. "She is currently up in her realm, spending her days amongst her souls. Though she spends a good amount of time on earth. Searching."
He avoided adding the last part--searching for you. She may not have loved you, but she does love what you stand for. She's a silly girl.
If this was really Life, he would know soon enough. Even with all the evidence stacking, there was no way to be certain.
Shoe paced up to the trunk of the tree and stood on her hind legs, resting her front paws against the bark. She scratched at it, whimpering, as if calling the girl down from her safe tree.
