When they reach the centre spot of the room, seemingly standing in the limelight, Cas notices multiple eyes on them. Most seemed to be U.N. officials, and he almost wanted to laugh at the looks on their faces. Of course they wouldn't be pleased that perhaps that the trigger-happy daughter of Wade Wilson was about to dance with the son of a villain who had the ability to control minds. It made sense and Cas couldn't help but think the he and his new friend had the potential to be the most formidable team. That's something he'd have to ponder further another time, as for now, Cas was focused more on finding the perfect time for them to slip away, back to his room.
"You need both hands to dance." Cas nearly kicked himself, too absorbed in the bemusing sight of disgruntled officials, he had forgotten to place down his scotch. However Cas only smirks as Wren continues to down the drink. Like father like daughter, he supposed. Moving his hand to lay low on Wren's back, he draws her tighter into him, grasping the hand she had placed into his open palm. Cas knew he couldn't possibly mess this up now, the waltz had always been his forte. A dance that can only be performed by two people, pressed against each other with arms entwined, what could be more beautiful?
As he led them in their waltz, Cas looks into Wren's eyes, making sure to continually keep time with the music. Although by this point he had noticed a couple more pairs join in the dancing, Cas was far to focused on the redhead he was currently dancing with to acknowledge who they were. "Wren Wilson," Cas says, his voice low and soft since their faces were mere inches apart, "I have to say you are not what I expected." And that was true, in all of his thoughts about potential friendships or hook-ups to come out of his stint at the academy, Cas never once thought he'd be at this gala with his arms around the daughter of one of the most prolific anti-heroes. Not that he was complaining, in fact Cas was elated to have found someone who wasn't dull just a few hours into his being at the academy.
Some part of Cas wanted to ask Wren so many questions, which was new. Typically he was the kind of guy to be interested in one thing and one thing only. However, just like all the other students at the academy, Wren was not an average person. They were all so fascinating, the lives that they had lived and the people they associated with, Cas almost felt inferior knowing that he had not even nearly such an intriguing backstory. He hadn't even known about his powers nor his father until his twenties, meaning that while he may well be amongst the most powerful of students, he was certainly not as developed as some.
However, Cas also realised that bombarding her with questions would undoubtably ruin the undeniable tension brewing between them. So, he let them dance in comfortable silence for a moment, glancing away from Wren only when necessary, since he didn't exactly want to waltz her right into another dancing couple. That and he found himself left ever so slightly speechless by her, he could already tell that Wren was a strong character with a loud mouth; while Cas couldn't deny that he too was a strong character, he tended to choose his words carefully. Since everyone who knew about Cas' parentage was either scared of him or hated his guts, it was odd for him to be dancing with a woman who knew exactly who he was, and even seemed to be familiar with what his father had done.
He'd been lucky that Kilgrave kept a low profile and despite the havoc he may have wreaked, he was a figure of anonymity, with only a select few knowing of his identity. This meant that Cas was never recognised as the child of a villain, and in fact, was able to lead a relatively normal life. It seemed, however, as if everyone here knew him. The officials gazes were still on him and Wren when he glanced over at them, he should've known he wouldn't be the most popular amongst the U.N. or really anyone particularly, but surely they didn't need to keep such a close eye on him. What did they think he was going to do? Make Wren go crazy and lash out? Sure she'd be the perfect superhuman to use his mind control on if he ever needed to, but Cas was not his father and he was not evil. Teetering on the edge of good and bad, perhaps, but certainly not about to start a battle in the middle of a swanky gala.
With these thoughts race around in his mind, Cas can't help but look at Wren, almost searching for any sign of fear in her eyes as she looks right back at him. Of course she wasn't scared of him, but Cas still couldn't help but think that even the most powerful of students don't want a mind-controlling freak crawling through their brain. "Do I not frighten you?" These words almost come out in a jumble, but Cas is able to steady them before they exit his mouth. The way in which Cas questions Wren seems almost as lighthearted as a 'how are you?' question, more than such an imposing one. Still, Cas couldn't keep it in and now that it was out in the open, Cas was curious as to what her answer would be. As he waits, Cas shifts his hand on her back, dropping it ever so slightly so that it grazes the lower edge of her waist.
