Emery hardly heard Seung-min, so intent was she on the beast. She wanted to see how well it worked - call it a trial she could afford, but if she could speak to and command the beasts their situation would improve considerably.
"Hi," she whispered, reaching a tentative hand out, wiggling her fingers slightly. With the other hand supporting her, she swung her legs down and onto the forest floor, her eyes fixed on the beast. "Oh, don't mind him, he's just a friend. Like you and me, right?" She kept her tone encouraging, and in response it growled lowly and moved a little closer, ignoring Seung-min. "That's right... I know it's your job, but couldn't you make us an exception? I doubt anyone else speaks your language the way I do, plus we're friends now."
She was rewarded with a low purr, and it bumped her hand with its forehead, nuzzling against her fingertips. "Awesome. It was great meeting you - I've got my own job to do, but we can talk later, okay?" Another growl, another bump against her fingers, and the beast turned and bounded back into the trees.
Emery straightened up, smiling at Seung-min. She'd had confidence it would work, but actually being able to exercise her abilities was exciting every time. "Always better to make a new friend, don't you think? Anyway - let's keep moving." Holding her newfound weapon loosely by her side, she headed back into the trees.
"And, Seung-min? That does sound pretty badass."

"You do know you're allowed to create experiences apart from your brother?" he said gently. "You're allowed to be your own person, even while you're with him. Especially when you're with him." He paused for a moment, concerned he'd overstepped his boundaries. "Anyway, I'm just speaking from personal experience. I have an older brother - for the first decade of my life I wanted to be just like him, wanted to do everything he did, until I got down to figuring out who I was when he wasn't around. I know a little about getting your identity mixed up with your sibling's." He fell silent again.
Maybe it should have been had. Could Ji-hyun still be a younger brother if his brother was dead? But he didn't know for sure. After all those years, he was by all means an only child. And yet, he still thought himself a younger brother, defined by the existence of someone older, someone perhaps dead.
Identities were weird. Ji-hyun shook himself hard, trying to focus for once. He managed a smile.
"Just my two cents."
