And the town was far too quiet. The air hung thick, wanting-- no, begging for something to pierce through. Pelin was almost wishing for it as well. The two had chosen a town as their first stopping point for a reason. Cities were far too dangerous, too many people, too many blocked roads. However, Pelin still expected to come across something in this town. And not knowing where her enemy hid was far worse than confronting it. Or at least she thought.
"Stop there," Pelin said, spotting a gas station across the street.
Feeling that there was nothing else needed to be said, Pelin reached over to retrieve a backpack from the back seat before opening the door.
"You can fill the tank while I see if there's anything we can use," Pelin suggested, hoping that Ree wouldn't insist on going inside as well. She wouldn't have the energy to argue, however, if the other woman decided to go in.
Pelin didn't necessarily want to go in alone, but it would be good to have someone out here on the lookout, ready to make a quick getaway if needed. Plus, if anything attacked while inside, it would be easier to look out just for herself; she hadn’t fully adjusted to the idea of group survival yet, to be quite honest. Throwing the empty backpack over her right shoulder, she grabbed the gun and tucked it into her belt, opting for the knife in her hand.
Without another word, she headed towards the glass door. Had it not been for the knowledge that the world had gone to pieces, the scene would've just appeared like a closed gas station in a place where everyone in town was sleeping. It was far too early to see much of a difference; the grasses of homes were still trimmed and windows were still clean.
Pulling on the door, Pelin cursed as she found it to be locked. This wasn't exactly something she expected; in apocalypse movies, doors always just seemed to be open. Not that she dared to call this an apocalypse. Pelin was ready to kill, but not ready to fully accept the situation.
With a sigh, she headed back to the car. She had seen some things on the shelf and knew that they shouldn't risk missing out on food or other essential supplies. Opening the trunk, she dug around, looking for something that could be used to break the glass. She wasn't sure how all of this would work; no normal person happened to be constantly breaking windows and glass, after all. But they needed to figure something out.
"The door is locked," Pelin told Ree. "I'm going to circle the place to see if there's entry through the back door, but if not--" she stopped when she found a metal bar, probably to be used during a flat tire emergency or something of that nature, she didn't know, "I'm going to try to break the glass."
