"...What... what is this?" Minnie was not prepared for this kind of horror show. It seemed as if all cards were on the table now that they were here at the GENOS Labs like this. Couldn't they simply eliminate Dr. Grover and be done with it all? Minnie didn't like the idea of murder but she was tired of having such an evil woman hurt so many of her friends. Unfortunately for her though, Grover might just be Callisto's only chance at life if what she said was true. "Why are you doing this?" She asked in a low whisper, voice trembling even as the dizziness overwhelmed her. "Be quiet!" Dane hissed, clapping his hand over her mouth. "We can't be spotted here, Minnie, we shouldn't even be here!"
Black Jack however wasn't one to remain quiet. "Where's Hymnos? Why haven't you cured her yet?" He stepped forward, putting his arm out in front of Jace protectively. Grover's face tightened slightly. "I've tried." She stammered impatiently. "Right now we have more important matters to deal with." But Black Jack wasn't satisfied with just that. "You could have killed the Hymnos Network and created a new Network to sync us all to so that the virus will be phased out. Why didn't you?" The answer was obvious even if Dr. Grover did not answer. It was because whoever Hymnos was, she was important to the mad doctor. "That's not an option." Grover said quietly, looking back as the medical team took Calisto's body to the cryochamber.
"There's still something you can do." Black Jack was quiet. "Why didn't you simply put Callisto's mind into Io's body?" With how the human source worked, that sort of thing would be easy to accomplish. "You can't profit off of a human, can you?" It wasn't just that of course - but doing that would override Io completely. Would Calisto be willing to live after knowing her sister died to give her a healthy body? There were many reasons why Grover did not use that route, but Black Jack would only accept one of them. "There's a reason Hymnos gave you back your memories." Grover murmured. "Should't you focus on protecting your special one?"
Protect? But Jace was right here at his side, what did she mean by protect?
......
"Now you can be happy." Hymnos sounded pleased with herself. Already half of Fina was back, Io just had to get back the rest of her and then the intact data could be transplanted into a new core, a new android body with an upgraded model but hopefully similar aesthetics as the old, destroyed one. "Happy? What do you mean?" Instead of an answer, a strange girl was there instead, touching what seemed to be the remnants of Lita. "Who are you?" Io floated closer, feeling a pounding agony in her mind as if something was about to break. "What are you doing here? Are you another source human?"
She could feel arms wrapping around her. "You should know who that is."
Memories flooded into Io's mind, memories once long gone. This entire time she did have a twin sister, a sick sister, she had Callisto. And then she failed her, forcing her to partake in this horrible project, extending the suffering they called life for some cruel old witch to make money off of with her evil experiments.
Callisto's tearful plea to be allowed to die. And Io failed, she failed, she only ever failed.
"She's here."
Even if her physical body was out of reach, Io could still kill Callisto's mind and set her free that way. In the cyberspace, Io knew that she was stronger. And there she was, there was her precious sister who longed to die. "Cali. She gave me back my memories." Her breathing paused for a moment - if it could be called breathing. "I'm going to set you free now."
Tears dripped down her fake eyes in this fake world.
"I'm sorry for everything."
For trying to save her, for ever loving her, for ever thinking it was possible for a piece of garbage like her to ever do anything to help Callisto survive. In the end all she did was make everything worse. But now, here, there was no one who would stop her. No Jace to get in the way and betray her. It was time for salvation.
