Io was still in a daze when she was escorted into the office with her brother, Metis. "You're safe now, Io." Metis had no remorse for what he did, did he? Io was simmering, she wasn't sure what to do. Was it the Fina in her that was so upset? Why did she herself care so much for Minnie's wellbeing? And yet she was desperate to do something, anything, she just wanted Minnie to be okay. The pistol was still safely tucked into her pocket, but she was helpless to do anything to save her.... friend? Dane was here too, mostly because there was nowhere else for him to be. "You didn't have to shoot." Io muttered, looking away from him. She was at least given a jacket for modesty's sake. "You shot an innocent, Metis."
"I'm trying to put our broken family back together, Io." Metis's voice rose, he too was heated. "Don't you want everything back to normal? Then mom and dad won't have to cry anymore, then Carme can grow up having two big sisters to love her? Then maybe mom and dad can finally tell you how much they love you." Io rolled her eyes dramatically, putting her chin on her hand to rest her sore neck. "Hah, as if. They never cared. Once dad hit me for skipping class, don't you remember?" She could still feel the sting of disappointment, both on her cheek and in her chest. "It wasn't class, it was an exam." Dane raised his hand timidly. "I gave her the idea, it was my fault." He squeaked, no doubt terrified of Metis. "You don't get to talk, you've been a bad influence on Io since you first met."
Io stood up, cheeks fuming. "Excuse me? But he was my only friend growing up! Other than Cali I had no one!" Dane was always there who accepted her and cared for her because he too was a lonely broken person. He comforted her when she was a failure, she gave him a leg of support when his mother beat him. And together they ran right into Lady Reiss's open inviting arms, becoming members of the Flock. "You could have had me." Metis muttered, glaring hard at her. "At the time you were focused only on Callisto. Everyone was. She was the one who everyone loved. I love her too." But Io didn't have any solution anymore. If freedom didn't exist... then would she have to resort to staining her hands red with her twin's blood again?
The door opened. Dr. Grover regarded all three of them gravely. "Minnie is being worked on at the moment. But for now, let's talk about Callisto." Yes, Io very much wanted to talk about Callisto. "What's wrong with her?" Io wanted to know. No, she needed to know. "She isn't going to be able to live a normal life again. The cancer relapsed and progressed faster than we could have predicted." Dr. Grover looked almost sad if it was possible for such a greedy devil. "The only way for her to live a life now is to be an android. However she won't be hooked up to the Hymnos Network, so she'll be relatively free."
"Let her live with her family." Metis growled. "It's what she would want. Even as an android, let her come home." Io glowered, knowing it was true. Unfortunately, Io was a very bad and spiteful person. "She would not." Io muttered, crossing her arms. "Callisto would rather live with Jace to keep her safe." She rolled her eyes. No, their parents did not deserve to have their daughters back. "Maybe they're in love." She lied cheekily. "But first we need to find the Game Master and finish this stupidity. When will Fina be ready?"
Grover smiled.
"Tonight."
