|| Diamond in the Rough|| The Nearly Deads ||
Once it was confirmed by the local military forces - who were quite useless in eliminating Viren because they couldn't get close enough to do damage - that Viren and the android Uprising was no longer an issue, those in hiding in the woods outside the GENOS Labs were allowed back into their homes, trying to rebuild their lives. So far the death coll counted three hundred, while there were almost a thousand missing thanks to the Uprising's attempt to destroy humanity. "Genocidal assholes!" A moustached man with a bad toupee snapped at the news anchor. "Trying to kill us all, they're disgusting! Androids were a mistake!" The common sentiment went along those lines. Where once people were willing to accept an android into their home, now they were afraid. They did not want murder machines that hated humanity in their homes.
Already people were crying out for Dr. Grover's arrest. "Not only was Dr. Grover unable to reign in her androids to stop this disaster, she was also unable to control the Game Master when he infected all the androids with a terrible virus." The news anchor said, eyes wide and passionate. "Clearly, Dr. Grover has no respect for life and sanctity and only wishes to continue her terrible research. Androids should all be dismantled! Please, everyone, call your Governors today, write them letters, we can never let a tragedy like this happen again." They all thought they would be safe from the androids, they did not know that they were going to rise up against them. "Thank you, military, for saving us." The final comments on the news show were. "If it wasn't for you heroes, the attacks would never have stopped."
Io kicked the wall. Is that what counted as news these days? They put in all the work and the credit was stolen from them just like that? Androids were being at risk of being criminalized, just for the fact that they were androids meant they wouldn't be allowed to live if this legislation went through. "What can we do?" Io asked, wringing her hands. Was there even anything? "Violence can't be the answer." Jarvis was level headed as always. "More violence will just make the world hate us even more." But how could they possible attain the ideal of coexistence? Thanks to Viren, peace and happiness was farther away than ever before.
