|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||
There was someone nudging her. Mara opened her eyes, trying to pull herself out of the sea of sleep. "Wh-what's up? What's going on? Do you need something?" Her brain was running slowly as it processed waking up again. Her wings furled, curling up around her. Pan's arm was still on her as Flo pulled herself awake. "You're sleeping a bit much there." Pan reminded her with a pinch. Her cane was held carefully in her other hand, helping Pan navigate the world with her new blindness. "What time is it?" Mara glanced around, trying to regain her regain her bearings. "It's evening. You almost slept forty hours this time." That holocane really told her everything, didn't it? "Let's go outside. I need some fresh air."
While Pan could walk about and move on her own as she pleased, it was always faster and easier to be guided by someone. Pan clung to Mara's arm and took little steps as the cousins walked together. "That sounds good. We should get some groceries." The holocane was still a prototype, so Pan still needed Mara to help her buy the groceries for her. "Is the pantry empty again?" Pan nodded with a sigh. The two lived together now in their own flat a few blocks away from the Tower Society. They were close enough to be able to visit whenever they needed to, but for the most part they were trying to get to their new lives apart from the Tower Society, to find themselves in a world of peace.
Together they ventured outside. Mara lead Pan down the street, trying to remember the path to the convenience store where they could get their groceries. Not that there was much they could do, Pan couldn't cook blind and Mara was hardly ever awake to begin with. The best they could do was buy packets of instant noodles and hope for the best. "Thanks, we'll come again." With a new batch of instant noodle ramen cups in hand, it was time to head back. "The night air feels nice." Pan's voice was quiet. "I hope Echo's enjoying it too." Mara nodded, looking out at the horizon. What was she doing right now? "Remember, she's officially dead. We should be careful." They didn't want Wei to go looking for her again after all.
If you speak of the devil, the devil will appear.
"Ec-Echo?" Was it really her? What was she thinking? And - wasn't that Gwenyth? "Is she here?" Pan waved her cane around, trying to read information from it. Mara ran ahead, dragging Pan along behind her who almost tripped several times on the sprint. "What are you two doing here?" Mara asked, her pink hair in her face as she asked in a hushed low tone. "You know it's not safe for you two to be here right now!" The cane bumped Echo in the face. "Oh, there you are." Pan smiled, lowering the cane. "Sorry, I didn't mean to hit you. It's been a while, hasn't it?" Pan pulled some ramen from the pack. "Want to stay the night? We have instant noodles." Mara nodded, grimacing. It would be best to have a talk not out in the open for Tower Agents to see and hear after all.
