The time it took from the sound of the gun being cocked to reach The Drifter's ears to the time his gun fired - once only - was less than a second. His thumb flashed once, working the hammer on his revolver, and then the bullet discharged. Beetlejuice zipped neatly out of Kiiya's hand, carried at least a foot away; unharmed (due to the strange nature of an Alter's chosen weapon) but out of reach. The thumb worked again, pulling the hammer. This time the gun settled on the girl's heart.

"You ain't right." It wasn't a question, it was a statement. "Alter'r no, ye're dangerous."
