He found she was a few steps closer than she had been before. In his pain he had missed her exclamation of concern. She took another step closer, staring through his curtain of dark hair to peer into his eyes. Meeting her gaze, he quickly broke eye contact. Matt, unlike his dark passenger, hated eye contact - it was part of the reason he let his bangs hang in his eyes all the time. It made him feel vulnerable, like others could see every little flaw of his when looking in his eyes. His Alter, on the other hand, loved it. He knew how to use it to his advantage; when he made eye contact with someone, he could nearly paralyze them with terror.

"What was tha-" The woman started, but abruptly stopped. Matt glanced at her. Gears were churning in her head, he could see it. Suspicion was crawling back in. Daring to briefly make eye contact again, he glimpsed something other than the woman's growing distrust. Fear. A panic she suppressed well. If she hadn't sensed him before, she must sense his dark passenger now. Averting her gaze again, he stood silently. He wasn't sure what she intended to do now, nor what he should do, and as of yet he had no advice from his Alter.

"What the hell?" A female voice called at them fiercely. Matt looked to find a long-haired girl around his age striding towards them, a gun aimed at the first woman. She was an Alter. He blinked beneath his hair. She thought he was a victim of some kind; that was alright with him. Now that the woman seemed to recognize he had an Alter things would probably go downhill from here, so if this new girl wanted to help him out he would have no argument.
