He became aware of a lifting sensation, as if gravity was turning upside down and tugging him upwards instead of down. Whatever it was, his dark passenger disagreed with it and put an end to it. For all Matt knew his Alter had just saved him from being sucked into the sky, so he didn't much mind.
Then he felt hands on him, making him flinch as he wasn't sure of their intention. They only pushed at him, trying to pull him apart from his curled form, but soon gave up and grabbed the back of his hoodie to begin dragging him along. His legs wriggled as he tried to get his footing but even if he wasn't being dragged he wouldn't have been able to balance without his arms, which were occupied trying to block out the alarm.

Suddenly, the alarm quieted, as if someone had turned the volume down. Warily he removed his hands from ears. The alarm was still going off, but was quieter - and now that it was, he could hear police sirens undoubtedly on their way here. Then someone grabbed him by the shoulders and began to shake him. He opened his eyes, blinking somewhat fearfully. It was Rose; she must have come back for him. He glanced back where the white-haired woman lay on the floor. She was either unconscious or close to it. Disregarding her without a second thought, Matt stumbled to his feet and scurried out of the building like a startled cat, practically leaving Rose in the dust.
