’Do you seek the road to Fairyland.....

I'll tell; it's easy, quite.

Wait till a yellow moon gets up

O'er purple seas by night,
And gilds a shining pathway

That is sparkling diamond bright

Then, if no evil power be nigh

To thwart you, out of spite,

And if you know the very words

To cast a spell of might,

You get upon a thistledown,

And, if the breeze is right,

You sail away to Fairyland

Along this track of light.

Image
Tucked away, on the scattered islands between the Summer and Shivering Oceans, sits a mystical land, where enchantments lives, where the streams sings and the wind whispers. Where the caverns leads to Nether-realms, where Trees speaks and flowers tell tales.

This is Anansai
On this beautiful continent filled with lush tropical forests, clear water that falls over the large mountains into a pristine blue river leading into the oceans, sprites dances across these waters, Dryads whisper to the trees, Pixies dance in their rings throughout the night, trolls and boggarts roam the mountains, unicorns graze in the glades. In this country land is sacred, unchanged and untouched by human hands. Should a human wander in, they may suffer a terrible fate, or wonder the likes of which they've never seen.
Image
Ruling this mystical land is the Ananse, The Spider Fae,formerly Lead by Queen Tae Young, also known and the Spider Queen.

The Spider Fae are a fearsome Fae, allied with the Seelie Fae of the Summer Court. These Fae keep to themselves, and their territory, not having any outside contact, until the retiring of Queen Tae Young, and the rise of her younger daughter, Tenanye. Having now, united the Spider Fae, who were once solitary, with the Seelie Fae, she decided that in her rule, she would venture out and open communication with the world, by way of Trade.

Trade Options.

Sprite Dew: An Enchanted Mineral Water from the Water Sprites themselves. This Mineral Water can refresh even the most dry of land, Only one drop can be used at a time, or the land and soil will be flooded by nightfall. Use carefully.

Image
Wisp's Trail: A fine powder that when made contact with fresh air, one's destination with be alight with Will'O the Wisps. Difficult to use, one's mind must be clear and without distraction.

Image
Anansae's Thread: The Spider Fae guide the Anansae Spider to spin a powerful thread into fabric, Lightweight and Fire Resistant and Durable, rivaling if not surpassing Dragon Scales, It's only drawback is it's resistant to the freezing cold.

The History of the Fae
Long ago, Mortals and Faeries, did not coexist as the Faeries, lived in a realm all their own, called, Faerie, or and most commonly, OtherWorld. This Otherworld was vast, much bigger then the world we mortals know, and their the Sidhe flourish. Eons and Eons, Otherworld was a wondrous place, filled with beauty and horrors beyond imagination. This realm was ruled by a King and Queen, known to history as the Seelie. The Seelie King was the ruler of Summer and Spring, and held sovereignty over the animals and plant of those seasons, while the Seelie Queen, was the Ruler of Winter, because of these two opposites, the Queen and King often quarreled. The King seemed to change.

The Fae, you see only know two things, stasis and change, being that of Winter, The Seelie Queen, did not change, and being that of Summer, the King did. Growing ever curious, the Summer King would not stay by the side of his mate, he would wonder, learn more about this people, and this did nothing but upset the Seelie Queen, she grew jealous, but liked her newfound control over her people.

History from here is unclear, but the story goes that the Summer King found his way to the mortal realm, he fell in love with a mortal girl, and spent more and more of his time with her, the problem was, she like him, changed, she did not stay the same and therefore grew older, and soon she told her love the she would not live long. Horrified, the Summer King, searched for a way to make his love like him, but hte other way to do that was with what is called the Hallows, magical artifacts that the King and Queen used to rule over OtherWorld.

Four of them, each with a different gift, There was the Sword of K'Vruck, The Song of Making, The Book of Knowledge and the Cup of Dreams. The Sword and the Cup belonged to Summer and the Song and the Book belong to the Queen. So, The Summer King, he went to his queen asked for the book, but she refused him, she cared little for human life, and at the time, did not know what a human even was.

So The Summer King, furious, took his human love, and brought her to OtherWorld, in hopes that he could figure out how to make his human mortal, with all his studies and learning, he created what was known then as HalfLives, dark twisted parodies of what the Fae were, this angered the Queen even further, jealousy growing in her, she had the human woman killed. Enraged and consumed by grief, the Summer King, and his HalfLives, attacked the Winter Queen, and thus began the great War. This War went on and on, and was so bloody and violent that it ripped a whole in the universe, where the Summer King had gone.

This Rift, lays deep within the mountain of Anansai and it is said that it is here where magic bleed unto the mortal realm, and allowed for even human to possess the magic of the Fae.

During this war, the Summer King defeated the Winter Queen, and with his Sword at her throat, he cast off his Seelie Title, and dubbed him and his HalfLives, the UnSeelie, or "not of" Seelie. before killing the Queen. This set and unbalance, and Summer King, lost his power of the summer, but he cared little, his human love was gone and his soul was cold and dark, with his light gone, he was Winter now.

During this batte, many Fae did not wish to fight, cared little for the fighting of Winter and Summer and so they snuck off, into the rift, where they went on with their daily lives, tending to the woods, the waters, and breeze, They called themselves Solitary, claiming neither Seelie or the New UnSeelie.

However, without a Summer, OtherWorld became a dark desolate wasteland, the Winter King's grief taking it's toll on the land, more and more Fae departed, though they still call themselves Seelie, or UnSeelie but they had little power in this New Realm, though they fought for it. A battle waged here as well, between the now three Courts, and it was then that a solitary fae, A spider Fae by the name Anansi, saw that this war would continue with more of them seeping out and destroying their new home, she sealed the rift with her powerful thread, stopping any from entering or exiting. With that, the three courts, knew they had to share this land because it was small and they could not exile anyone to the vastness of the OtherWorld,so the war ended with an uneasy peace, but they named their new home Anansai, after the wise spider fae who brought about the end of the war.

No one knows what became of the Winter King, nor if there will ever been a Summer Queen again, eons again, has pasted without a single one appear, though many fae believe she will return, and with her return, they too will be able to return to OtherWorld and she will fix the realm to it's once wonderful, terrible beauty.

Until then, Fae have since branched off, co exisiting with the mortals, taking up with them, living and dying with them, but Anansai remains untouched, and guarded so that mortals can not lay waste to it.

How to Spot a Faerie
The Fae come in many shapes and sizes. Neither inherently good, nor evil, though some tend to be more cruel then others. They can be classified into the two groups, though there are three Courts; Seelie, UnSeelie and Solitary, as known as Wild.
The Solitary Court came during the Great Unrest when the Summer King and Winter Queen were at war, any Fae can choose to be solitary, Seelie and UnSeelie alike, so there is no real distinction of this, however, you can tell the difference between the Seelie and UnSeelie.

The Seelie
The Seelie Court, are the older of the Fae classes, and before The Fall of the Summer King , this was the only caste They are the more lovely in appearance, dangerously lovely, and deadly beautiful. They are curious creatures, and rather enjoy the company of mortals, finding them amusing. They like their darker brethren, play tricks on human, but they rarely go beyond general mischief, taking things, confusing riddles, knotting hair, they rarely do harm to humans, unless a human enters a Fairy Ring, or some sacred place belonging to the Fae. If by some chance, a Fae owes a human a debt, the Fae will go out of their way to honor it, however the same can be said about vengeance as well.
The Fae in this caste, are but not limited to;
  • Pixies
  • Brownies
  • Dryads
  • Sprites
    +Water +Fire +Earth +Air
  • Nymphs +All Types
  • Animal Fae
  • Trolls
  • Leprechauns
  • Elves *Note, these have sine branched off into their own ‘race’ separate from the Fae.
  • Mermaids *Note, these have since branched off into their own ‘race’, separate from the Fae.
  • Sirens
  • Banshee
  • Daoine maithe (This is the type of Fae the Royal Family are, they have control over certain animals, or elements.)

The UnSeelie
The Summer King’s halflife creations, these creatures are twisted parodies of what the Seelie Fae once where. These Fae have been known to kill, rape, and torture humans, all for sport, or simple boredom. They are the ones to avoid.
The Fae in there caste are, but not limited to:
  • Orcs
*Note these have since branched off into their own “race” separate from the Fae.
  • Selkies
  • Harpies
  • Boggarts
  • Red Caps
  • Fir Darrig
  • Goblins
  • Gywyllion
  • Sluaughs
  • Spriggons
The Fae all do have a few things in common, now matter how far they branch out, nor how dilutated the gene becomes, they have an allergy to iron. It burns their skin when touched, and makes them weak when near.
Neither can they lie. They never needed such a skill in OtherWorld, nor do they have it in the Mortal Realm. While this varies from Fae to Fae, the ability to outright lie is nonexistent. In Full Fae, they simply cannot, they are throats will close and choke them on their words. In Halflings, they can tend to speak their minds. The Unseelie have developed the uncanny affinity for half truths, and while the Seelie can do it too, the UnSeelie are better at it.

Seelie or UnSeelie, The Fair Folk have been known to steal a child out of the cradle and leave a substitute in it's place. The substitute could be a block of wood roughly shaped into the likeness of a child and "glamoured" with a temporary appearance of life which soon faded. When the baby would appear to die the substitute was buried. Sometimes a sickly Faerie child would be exchanged for a beautiful healthy human baby. Oftentimes the changeling was an old withered fairy of no more use the the Faerie tribe, who was willing to lead an easy life being fed, cherished and carried about by it's anxious foster-mother while it cried and wailed for food and attention.

Stolen babies were fed on faerie food, loved and taken care of by Faerie mothers. They would eventually be accepted as full members of the Faeries tribe.

Faerie Capture

The Fae are known for capturing and stealing humans. For the Seelie, if a person ventured into a Faerie hill and was inveigled into tasting faerie food or drink they could remain captives. Sometimes the captives would be made into slaves by the UnSeelie, or they would be caught because of their beauty and talent to enrich the Seelie. It varies from Fae to Fae. Nursing mothers were taken because human milk gives extra vigor to the more frail Faerie babies.

Older children were also sometimes taken to reinforce the fairy stock or because of their beauty. Older People were stolen for particular qualities that they possessed, such as musicality, wit, strength etc. Beautiful young women were captured to be brides to Faerie kings or princes

Time

Time in Anansai, can be tricky. A dance of a few moments may take a year and a day of common time, and a few days of feasting and merriment can consume more than 200 years in the mortal world. Occasionally both Faerie and mortal time can be in sync with each other but it's wise to know that if you visit Anansai, you run the risk of returning long after your mortal lifespan has been consumed. It is best to always, have a guide with you, A faerie guide, preferable one that can be trusted. They know where faerie time and mortal time sync so that you do not grow old in a single night.
