Description

Kane Oā€™Reilly

Image

~ Physical Profile ~

Name:Kane Oā€™Reilly Image
Physical Age: 19
True Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Subspecies: Klutz
Description: A blonde haired pretty boy; Kane is actually fairly scrawny, short, and even younger looking then his age. With his bright blue-green eyes masked behind his messy hair, he always tends to look curious or naĆÆve ā€“ a trait that reflects his optimistic tendencies. When on duty, he wears the typical garb that most exorcist recruits wear, but when given some spare time, he typically dons t-shirts and cargo shorts, occasionally with zip up jackets or hoodies. If he feels people arenā€™t respecting him enough, he does sometimes wear his black suit jacket with red shirt to give him a bit more of a formal appearance, but the effect is usually temporary ā€˜til his next slip up.

Due to his clumsiness, he often has the odd bruise or cuts on him, though he does his best to keep these hidden. He also has a few holy inscriptions tattooed onto his back in an ornate pattern, though he's rarely, if ever, shirtless.

~ Psychological Profile ~

Personality: Image

Kane is an optimist and a firm believer in the WDL and fighting against the demons. Filled with faith and inner strength, heā€™s the kind that wonā€™t give up, and remains fairly cheery all the time. This can lead to him seeming naĆÆve and child-like however, since heā€™s actually not too bright or wise; making him a gullible fool all too easy to manipulate or insult without him realising until a few moments later (ā€œHey!ā€ Is quite possibly his most commonly used expression). The kind to passively agree to most anything, this can occasionally get him to make mistakes with his words, which can lead to him fumbling over his sentences and saying things heā€™ll regret later. The poor fellow has a habit of digging himself a hole, then making it even deeper as he attempts to make reparations.
Image

A bit of a klutz, in some ways, Kane can seem quite hopeless; failing at tests, tripping over himself and causing accidents. Still, even though heā€™ll occasionally berate himself as useless, heā€™s quick to get back on his feet and remain determined to improve himself. Friendly to most everyone, heā€™s in awe of most higher level exorcists, revering them similar to the heroes in comic books. Kinda goofy with a weird sense of humour, heā€™s quite easy to take advantage of with his agreeableness, naivety and friendly nature, as he is often willing to help however he can. Amongst superiors in the WDL, he is a faithful, reliable and obedient student (Though ā€˜reliableā€™ is questionable considering how clumsy he isā€¦)

Though Kane adamantly believes in the WDL cause, he doesnā€™t necessarily think that fighting is the only answer, or that all demons need to be eradicated. Perhaps demons arenā€™t inherently evil? Maybe everyone could get along peacefully? Somehow, he believes that to be possible ā€“ though maybe, certain things would have to be done before that could be the case. After all, no one could forget what sins the demon lords have committed. They can find absolution in death. Aside from his fairly strong view regarding the ā€˜evilā€™ demons, Kane wants to protect most all of mankind, and believes that everyone has the potential for good. In that regard, he's against the often brutal methods of the WDL, though understands that sometimes they're a necessity. Unlike other Exorcists however, he'd never take the opportunity to revel in another's suffering, demon or otherwise.

Affiliation: Enthusiastic Member of the WDL

~ Combat Profile ~

Major Abilities:
-Lucky..?
Despite a horrible level of ineptitude, Kane seems to be fairly lucky that his clumsiness doesn't cause him more grief other than some mildly painful injuries. In spite of all the trials Kane seems to go through, he always seems to survive... Somehow. Kind of like a cockroach. This is not likely to be an actual ability, but instead fortuitous coincidence.

Minor Abilities:ImageImage
-Elemental Imbuing
Kane's signature style of magic, the young exorcist is capable of granting magical elemental properties to weapons and other objects in order to alter or enhance their abilities. Typically, this would consist of things like coating his sword in a wreathe of flames, or enchanting his shotgun to fire freezing pellets. This provides him some degree of versatility, but does require a varying amount of time to perform the enchantment.
-Sealing Magic
Well versed in magical rituals, Kane is capable of generating sealing talismans and barriers, preventing or restricting demons that are weak enough to be affected. The talismans can take the form of necklaces, paper seals, or many other trinkets; while the barriers are usually a large affair involving chalk symbols, candles, or intense prayer. Most sealing magic works to either limit demon powers, or to prevent their movement.
Spellsword
Kane is actually surprising capable at multitasking both his magic and his physical abilities. Being able to simultaneously wield his sword whilst enchanting it with spells is not a simple feat, as is being able to channel energy and magic through the sword itself. Maybe if Kane himself had some more potent magical abilities, he'd be far more formidable.

Special Ability: REDACTED

Equipment:
For Equipment, Kane is equipped with standard exorcism items, ranging from holy water and a crucifix (For use with some chants), to the less faith related 9mm pistol. In addition, Kane has both an enchanted energy shotgun and silver katana, leftover gifts from a couple of his adopted parents. I mean, holy items aside, sometimes something a little more personal is needed. Other items in his arsenal include scented candles and chalk (For sealing circles), a lighter, a coil of rope, various spell scrolls and a magic elemental rosary (Break a bead and throw it, explosion of elemental effect such as fire, ice, wind, etc.).
Minor Skills:
Kane is a capable marksman and swordsman, as well as having skills in mysticism. Kane is also a decent cook, excellent at cleaning and most other house duties from his time growing up, as well as recently in the WDL. He's also a decent writer and public speaker.

~ Faction Profile ~

Image
Faction: Warriors of Divine Light
Rank: Lower 3rd Class: Red Armband
Class: 'The Worst Exorcist'
Title: N/A
Loyalty Level: 9/10 - At present, Kane has almost complete faith that the WDL are righteous and heroic, just like his comic-book idols.

~ Miscellaneous ~
Biography/History: Image

Kane never knew his parents. His birth ones anyway. His adopted parents told him that he'd been found in a casket, and they had no idea where he came from. Regardless, they assured him that he must have been loved, judging by the careful condition he'd been placed in the basket. They must have had their reasons for leaving him. Regardless, his new parents always stated how much they treasured him and his jovial nature. That he was honest, dedicated, earnest and hardworking was all they could ask for. Growing up in a shrine out in the mountains, Kane underwent various monk training in virtual isolation, honing his mind and body to channel spirits and energy. He was a bit of a shut in, but he didn't mind. His family and aunts and uncles were quite eccentric and entertaining; and even encouraged him to visit the nearby towns, and take his time while performing chores and the like. They wanted him to have a good and fulfilling life.

And yet...

The first time Kane saw demons, it was pretty overwhelming. They were clearly dangerous, but seeing his aunt dispatch them swiftly using the skills she'd been training him in was quite the eye-opener. He asked all sorts of questions about it, and learned of the dangers and troubles of the world. That demons existed and harmed the innocents... Well, that was something that he couldn't stand for. Further delving into his training, Kane implored his aunts, mother and uncles to help him learn to fight as well. Aunty Rin was one at the forefront of his training, enhancing his agility and marksmanship. Not quite to her level, but still, impressive all the same. He wanted to be a hero, like the ones in the comics his aunt got him. By the end of his training, he was a capable demon hunter and exorcist, even if he was a bit clumsy. Still, with only home schooling and a life of mostly isolation, he wasn't exactly well equipped to simply go out into the world and go exorcise demons. His mother, one Candice Hallows, gave a compromise.

With her considerable influence, Candice managed to get Kane an entry into the Warrior's of Divine Light, and although Kane may be a little out of his element, he's working hard to be like the many great heroes fighting the good cause against the demons of this world.

Ashley ā€œAshā€ ā€œSootā€ Clade
Image

"Okay, I think I've heard enough." Ash turned towards the source speaking, eying up the woman that had dragged the teen girl in amongst chains. For some reason, her expression and the dual set of claps irked her, though it did surprise her slightly to see a pointed finger aimed squarely at her.

"Hey, loser."

Immediately, Ashā€™s expression soured. She was not a loser, that was her line about every other person in the room. Even if Ash could respect a no-bullshit approach to things, she was still the alpha bitch in this room (Illusion didnā€™t count, she wasnā€™t human), so no matter how tough this woman was, she wasnā€™t going to accept any pretence that Rianne was better than her. She didnā€™t expect her and Ash to get along? Good. Heck, she wanted a fight, sheā€™d get one soon enough. Ashley had been trying to be somewhat cordial, but then this tramp had to go and insult her and what she thought was a perfectly reasonable set of requests of the group. Ash thought to interject, but she was bigger than that. For now. Watching the woman take a cigarette, another annoyance to the biker, she thought perhaps the woman was done.

But no. She couldnā€™t leave good enough alone.

ā€œā€¦Acting like some playground bully because your insecurities keep you awake at night. 'Shut up and play along for now,' don't give me that crap. No one's ever worked properly as a team with a mindset like that, so why don't you get your head out of your fucking ass." Rianne continued, punctuating her comments by crushing her cigarette and sharing her name. Not that Ash hadnā€™t pegged this bitchā€™s name from the beginning. Still, she could feel it. Her blood boiling, but not just in irritation. In some respects, she enjoyed a good fight. It would do her good to let loose some of this pent up frustration.

ā€œRianne, huh?ā€ Ash started simply, unfolding her arms and placing them on her hips. ā€œ Shame such a nice name belongs to a bitch. Thatā€™s some mouth you got there for a holy woman. Youā€™d think an old dog like you wouldā€™ve learned some manners by this point, but I guess youā€™re just scared that there might be a new girl in town whoā€™s not afraid of your crap. If Iā€™m the schoolyard bully, then youā€™re the dipshit that stayed back several years and runs the playground just ā€˜cuz they think theyā€™re bigger and better.ā€ Ash remained where she was, not making an effort to approach Rianne. Vaguely, she could hear some niceties being exchanged by the other children, but she didnā€™t care. Even Caius had been forgotten in this moment. This girl had challenged her, and Ash wasnā€™t about to take it without some sort of counterattack.

ā€œYou want me to get along with these dumbasses? Theyā€™re gonna have to earn it. Just like you. Sure, I get it, youā€™re a disgruntled badass cause youā€™re stuck here fighting demons since youā€™re too ugly to find yourself a man, and too stupid to move up the ranks to something worthwhile, but hey, maybe if you dedicate yourself you can be Arthurā€™s lapdog.ā€ Ash shrugged with a smug expression, raising her hands into the air as she looked away. Seemed the rest of the group was leaving. Pivoting slightly, she began wandering away, calling over her shoulder.

ā€œI get why youā€™re scared though - Youā€™re gonna be old news Rianne. With us new devil-spawns being trained up, youā€™re gonna be obsolete before long. Get used to seeing my ass, cause youā€™re gonna be eating my dust for years to come. Your days are numbered.ā€ Ash waved over her shoulder as she strode away with Rick and the others, praying that her final cool move would work. To her immense and smug glee, right on cue, her motorbike pulled up beside her, allowing Ash to climb on easily as it began to ride away, idly coasting behind the group and leaving Caius, Rianne and Illusion behind. But not before one last quip. ā€œLater Pot. Try not to get too worked up, canā€™t be good for your heart with that shit in you.ā€

Kane Oā€™ReillyImage

Sitting calmly in class, oblivious to the events occurring outside the room, was a single bright young exorcist doing his best to take notes on the material in class. He was still pretty low on the totem pole, barely more than a recruit at his lower 3rd class rank, but he knew that if he applied himself and worked hard, that would change. It didnā€™t matter that heā€™d been here a few months and hadnā€™t progressed. Or that he hadnā€™t gone on field duty at all. It didnā€™t even matter that he kept getting cleaning duty. The important thing was that he was here - The WDL - The place where he could truly put his skills as an exorcist to the test, and help fight off the demon threat.

Of courseā€¦ It wasnā€™t exactly how he expected it to be. Granted, his ideas about glory and fighting off demons and what have you may have been exaggerated to begin with, butā€¦ Well, even as far as a school went, heā€™d had higher expectations. He wasnā€™t expecting to be popular by any means butā€¦ Well, he thought heā€™d have made SOME friends at the school. But no. He was a laughing stock. A joke. I mean, he enjoyed making people happy, but it still hurt. Just because he tripped when introducing himself to the class, some people thought he was incapable. It didnā€™t help he was constantly just cleaning, never on a missionā€¦ I mean, heā€™d prove himself eventually, but when were the brass going to take him seriously? Maybe heā€™d have to go speak with M-ā€¦Ms. Hallows and see about it.

When class ended, Kane inevitably got lumped with staying back and cleaning the room. It didnā€™t take him long ā€“ the students weren't particularly messy, and he was well practiced in it by now. Lumping the last of the garbage into the bin, Kane cautiously carried it in front of him, but he couldnā€™t really see. Sliding the class door open with his foot, he stepped out, though his second step caught on the lip of the door. The results were as expected.

ā€œWahaHOAHH!ā€ Kane went sprawling forward with a soft thud, tossing the bin flying forwards. In a mess of banana peels, paper, dust and other items, the poor teenager that had been standing outside the door was quickly pelted with the rubbish, culminating in the bin landing over his head with a soft ā€˜thunkā€™. Kane swallowed nervously as he got up, quickly moving to help the guy. ā€œIā€™m so sorry! That was a total accident, Iā€™m such a klutz! Here, let me help you clean off, uhā€¦ā€

Could you guess where you would end up by the sunset, when looking upon the rising sun with those barely open eyes? There was a certain mystery in where a person's day would go, Yohan had certainly seen his fair share of horrors and joys. Sure, he couldn't imagine ever having been kidnapped when he was a child. Okay, training had been rough and seemingly impossible to struggle through. Fine, he could admit he saw action first hand and was quite good when given a blade to work with. The one thing you would never expect, however, is literal trash being dumped over you in a sudden rush, leaving you wanting to just hide from the world and not get mocked by peers, only for his eyes to tilt up as the bin itself crashed over him as if they were in a cartoon.

Yohan had been called many a thing before in the past. He had heard every typical insult out there, every mocking tone you could imagine, but being literal trash had been taken to a whole new meaning today. Dare he look upon what had smeared itself all over his form, shall fate leave a foul stench over him until he gave in and took a shower, or perhaps God was just a giant dick and saw potential for a funny laugh out of one random person. Today, he had become chosen to become a living joke of so many things. Even inside his own head, he could hear a voice laughing viciously, reminding him ever so much of the hyena.

He could faintly make out the voice of the person who he had caught eye of before, saying something about of an apology towards him before stopping because he didn't know his name. Well, first impressions are everything, the voice in his head took the time to sound it's opinion. Normally Yohan would care about standards and bars being set and such, but when you were literally covered in trash, you could only realize the bar had been set pretty low already, so you may as well go all the way with it. "I'm trash." The look on Yohan's face said it all, the way he looked at Kane, the way he couldn't help but give a small smile while his hands were brushing off the trash from his head. It all screamed out, I should be angry here, but I'm going to roll with this.

"Eh, call me Yohan." Deciding to get serious after his attempt at lightening the mood up, if only to give the other person some comfort, he looks down at the bin for a brief time before looking back up at him. "You know in reality, I probably should of moved to a better location. I'm not exactly one hundred percent paying attention either here, so, I kind of set myself up for something like this to happen." Yohan wasn't exactly lying about anything here. He had poorly chosen a spot to look upon a classroom through, on top of looking back on past events. "I guess this is a lesson for the both of us to be a little more careful, huh?" Normally, he would of said something a bit more mean spirited in this situation, by all means, he should be yelling that he was literally covered in trash. However, the moment he heard his voice and actually got a good look at his expression, well, Yohan started feeling bad for the guy. And the more he thought it over, the more it did seem like it was his fault. At least, that's what he wanted to believe.

~ Meanwhile, in another location. . . ~

The man couldn't see a thing, he struggled to be free with little to no success. He had not seen light for what felt like hours now, was this a sack over his head? He had no idea how this had even happened, he was off to return home after a busy day's work when a painful blow to the gut left him helpless to his kidnappers. He had already given up hope of calling for help, no one was coming for him, wherever he had been taken. He felt his knees hit the ground as his arms pressed harder against his back from what felt like the men who had assaulted him. The sack is pulled off rather roughly, but the man quickly wished it had just been left over his head at what he was witnessing.

Red. The room he was currently in had a red mist spreading around within the air, and the source of it seemed to be several demonic looking jar's that were just barely left open to allow the mist to escape. The figures he could make out within this red mist all appeared humanoid looking enough, but each of them had a pair of red eyes that watched him almost like a hungry beast would it's prey. But before he could comprehend that he could die here, music started to play and start to make the red eyed figures start to sway side-to-side almost as if they were in a trance with the music. Cackles, giggles, even some snickering began to escape the mouths of these figures with red eyes as he looks straight ahead to see a black cloaked figure sitting on a throne that he could only describe to be made out of one of hell's pits. The way it almost seemed to be taunting his very eyes by leering over with it's little demons that seemed carved into it's very being made him lean back, making it even more horrifying when the cloaked figure rose up from it's throne and seemed to rise over him for a moment like a shadow.

A hand slips out of the cloak and grabs a hold of it before throwing it off with little to no care, covering over someone swaying nearby as the figure revealed before the man caused him to squint his eyes and close his mouth very tightly. This man with his very typical villains black suit and red tie, his features young and charming, but nothing that would really scream that his looks put an instant desire in just any person, reminded him of a certain figure who most would prefer to call dead by this point. Yet here he stood, his black eyes staring wickedly at him as a devious grin spread across his face with almost no hesitation. Taking up a cane in his right hand and spinning it around joyfully, the black suited man who only called himself by the name of (00) Lucifer walked down three steps down a short set of stairs before his throne and made his way to stand right in front of the man.

"When thrown down into a dark pit by the villain, does the hero receive help or get ignored and left to rot? Which do you think is more likely, priest?" (00) Lucifer asked, setting the cane down in front of himself and resting both hands upon it's top. As the priest goes to speak, he finds the cane suddenly being smacked across his face. "Ah-ah-ah, I didn't give you permission to speak. You are not under God's domain here." Rubbing his cane with his left hand, Lucifer's eyelids drop halfway as his pupil's shoot back and forth before he clears his throat to get the swaying figures attention on him. "I think the answer is obvious for me. Leave the poor fool to rot in the pit. And, come on, I'm never wrong. SAYS WHO?!" He raises up his arms as he speaks, cane held in the left hand, both hands reach up to move behind his ears as he opens his mouth with a wicked grin smeared over his face.

"You! Lucifer, The Devil!" This caused his grin to become even more wicked and spread out, his hands moving away from his hand as he takes a hold of his cane with both hands and seemed to almost hum himself in sync with the music before stopping before his throne. "So you all say. But you added a little detail I didn't teach you to say. We've been over this, who ever said I was The Devil?" He turns to the figures, his mouth closing while the grin remained. "Let's try this again. SAYS WHO?!" The figures look at each other with a childlike look to them now, all of them turning towards him as they begin to speak. "You, Luci--" They are interrupted by a whip that moves itself past the throne and almost strikes one of the figures, all of them suddenly becoming wide eyed and rushing off to the farthest corners they could away from the throne. "Y-you, Lucifer, The Devil!" The priest found this odd, as he watched (00) Lucifer gain a menacing grin from this.

"Oh, they will learn eventually." He shook his head playfully as he made his way back over to the priest, grabbing him by his collar and forcing him up to his feet as he begins to walk through the red mist with him. It was impossible to make anything out here, but as questions fill the priest's mind, (00) Lucifer continued to run his mouth. "No hard feelings, my man. I enjoy pleasure and business together if possible, but recently I have been met with some rather disturbing news. It's troubling to think that there are just some people you want to get your hands on, but can't. Oh well, to me, everyone has a number of how much they are worth above their head. You would go for, uh, about forty I'd say." He made no hesitation to be blunt with the priest about his personal life, something the priest found he could do without. But this information did get him curious, Lucifer was troubled by something and needed him for something? He had no idea what it could be for though.

But he soon wished, again, that he didn't find out. Lucifer made a rough push on him to send him tumbling forward and ending up on his back as he noticed something being placed quickly over his neck. "I wish I could just sell you off to some lowly demon wanting a human toy, but I need to send a message and I have chosen you for this duty! Boy, you are going to regret killing all those demons now I bet, eh?!" A wicked laugh escaped (00) Lucifer's mouth before he continued rambling. "Well, at least try to look good as a message, okay?" Lucifer's mischievous attitude seemed to all wash away as his expression transformed into the dark and serious one people had come to associate his image with. With a snap of his fingers, one of the red eyed figures appeared by his side and handed him a cigar. Lucifer took it and put it into his mouth, with the red eyed figure casting a quick fire on it's end as smoke began to emit from it. Lucifer grabbed a hold of it and pulled it away, puffing out smoke from his mouth as he looked over towards said red eyed figure. "The blade is sharpened, yes?" The priest had only a few seconds to realize what was going on before the blade came crashing down and silencing any further thoughts. Guess he had sharp wit.

With the sudden verbal abuse that Rianne had dumped on the girl, she absolutely expected some kind of retaliation from someone with a mouth like that. She sat quietly, almost eagerly as she waited in anticipation to hear what she would say - her body was leaning slightly forward, hands on her knees and the slightest smile creeping at the corner of her mouth. Unsurprisingly, she jumped straight to name calling but in a few moments, the direction she took her insults changed drastically. 'Disgruntled badass? Too ugly to find a man? Arthur's lapdog? Obsolete?'

Rianne almost bust out laughing as Ash fumed at her, who then ended with a smug grin that showed that she was confident she had 'won' their little argument. Sure kid, you won, Rianne thought, eliciting a snicker as the girl sped away on her bike with the others. There were so many things that was funny about that entire sequence that she didn't even know where to begin. She couldn't even be mad - the wild assumptions, the smug look, the fact that she felt she had to get the last word in - Rianne changed her mind, Ash wasn't a playground bully. She was just an idiot.

"And that's fine with me," Rianne muttered to herself with a shrug, flipping her phone open. It had been buzzing for a few minutes now, but she'd chosen to ignore it. I'm just as much of a dumbass, though I'd never hear the end of it if I put myself in the same boat as her. Her eyes skimmed over the message she'd received and suddenly things weren't so funny anymore:

[Melody: 12:00 PM sharp at Della Pace. Come alone.]

Rianne quickly closed her phone, squinting suspiciously around the ceiling for a few moments. ORIN didn't see that, did she? God knows where's she got eyes and ears here. She put the phone away and rubbed the side of her temple with her right hand, gently closing her eyes. It'll be okay. Even if she did see, she probably wouldn't care.

Unlike her, Melody was not the type to pull pranks like this. Somebody's got a hold of her.

Rianne opened her eyes again and took a few deep breaths, opening her phone for a few seconds before putting it away once more. She had been too stunned to fully register the time and place that she was expected to meet this stranger. It didn't seem likely that it was anybody she knew, so she guessed that it had to be a demon of some sort. She'd dealt with their kind on many an occasion, after all.

In any case, there were still hours to spare before the clock struck twelve and she wasn't going to spend that time moping around, at least if she could help it. She half-considered asking somebody for help, but she wasn't willing to risk Melody's life. This was something she might have to face on her own. Standing up and dusting herself off, she waved and made her way towards the exit. "You two have fun, I'm gonna go grab some ice cream."

Or at least, that was the plan. By the looks of it, they were all sold out of strawberry. Peering off to the side, she spotted a pair of WDL students surrounded by a heap of trash. Oh boy.

She walked over and pulled the can upright, kneeling to the ground to pick up pieces of trash and drop them back in. "It's nice that you're introducing each other in the middle of all this garbage, but I hope at least one of you is planning on cleaning all of this up. Actually. . ." Rianne snapped a few times as if to jog her memory. "Kane, right? Get me a broom from the classroom, I'll clean it up."

Anything to take my mind off of tonight.

Kane hurriedly lifted the bin from the other boy, tossing it to the floor as he was more concerned with helping the young man then cleaning up the situation. At first, the clumsy exorcist froze, seeing the somewhat unamused expression on the boy, as well as his near unresponsive demeanour. Kane was worried he was about to get an intense scolding. Thenā€¦ "I'm trash." The boy spoke, barely moving. Then, he slowly cocked his head to look at Kane, forcing a small smile as he slowly began to animate more, brushing off the larger bits of garbage from his hair and shawl. Kaneā€™s mouth was slightly agape as he watched, stunned a bit by how calm the reaction had been.

"Eh, call me Yohan." The boy added as he finished cleaning up the most egregious of the trash from his person. There were a few stains across his clothes, but nothing too serious, thankfully. Kane simply nodded, extending his hand to shake. He hadnā€™t met the boy before, and there was no armband, so he had to be a new recruit. Must have been a pretty poor start to his day. ā€œKane. Nice to meet you, Yohan. I just wish it wasnā€™t under such stinky circumstances.ā€ Laughing a little at his own joke, Kane straightened up a bit as Yohan started blaming himself in addition to Kane. Which wasnā€™t really at all true, Kane knew he was at fault for this. ā€œNo, no, itā€™s my bad. If I canā€™t even do something as simple as this effectively, theyā€™ll never let me out on the field.ā€ Scratching the back of his head, perhaps relaxing a bit more than he should have considering what had happened, at least the way Yohan was approaching this seemed to have kept him pretty calm and jovial.

Stopping slightly as he heard approaching steps, Kane took a step back in surprise as he noticed who was approaching. ā€œS-sister Rianne?!ā€ Kane squeaked, his voice breaking slightly as he called out in greeting to her, making it quite clear how nervous he was. She approached swiftly, casually flipping the bin over and beginning to redeposit the rubbish inside in the typical cool fashion that heā€™d come to expect from her. "It's nice that you're introducing each other in the middle of all this garbage, but I hope at least one of you is planning on cleaning all of this up. Actually. . ." She looked up with those cool eyes of hers, snapping her fingers as she stared at the blonde haired exorcist. "Kane, right? Get me a broom from the classroom, I'll clean it up."

Kane couldnā€™t help a soft sigh of amazement. ā€œY-you know my name Maā€™am? Iā€™m honoured that someone of your calibre recognises me!ā€ Kaneā€™s overjoyed expression said it all, eyes alight and sparkling with admiration and awe. Sure, Rianne was at the bottom of 1st Class, but that was still 1st class, and made her one of the most impressive exorcists heā€™d ever had the pleasure of seeing work. Sure, she was intimidating, but that didnā€™t matter to him. Shaking his head to snap out of his idolisation, Kane quickly stood bolt upright, giving a small salute. ā€œNo, you canā€™t maā€™am! Youā€™re far too important a member of the WDL to be wasting your time on cleaning duty! This mess is mine and mine alone, Iā€™ll do it all by myself! Itā€™s my sworn duty!ā€ Kane didnā€™t realise he was shouting until part way through, confidently bringing his fist to pound once on his chest. He was perhaps a little uptight, but this was a top exorcist he was talking to, he had to show respect. For a moment though, his face fell as the gravity of his own words reached him.

Wasting time on cleaning duty. Is that what he was doing..? ā€¦No. This was just another step towards greatness. When he was at a level like Sister Rianne, heā€™d never have to do cleaning duty again. Unless he wanted to help out, of course. Still, he needed to progress on from cleaning duty if he was to get anywhere. Steeling himself, Kane decided that there was no better time than the present. ā€œSister! Please, I have a request of you!ā€ Bowing down, Kane hesitated for her response before continuing, looking up and bringing his hands up in front of him in what he hoped was a look of determination. ā€œPlease, take me with you on your next mission! I promise, Iā€™m prepared and dedicated for anything. Iā€™m ready for the field maā€™am, I just need a chance! I may not look like much, but I believe I can be a formidable exorcist. I have skills in-ā€œ Kane would continue like that until interrupted, losing himself in his speech. He had a tendency to do that sometimes.

Well, at least things were going well so far by the look of things. Yohan could practically feel the kindness oozing from this guy and thought it was a nice change of pace. Oh, this kid is too nice for my own good, a voice in his head responded viciously. No wonder this kid was put in here, it's going to drown me like those horrifying kids shows I used to watch! He ignored the voice as he reached out and took Kane's hand in return, Kane huh? He'd remember that, but something hit him in the funny bone when Kane made his joke. He did his best to stop himself from bursting out into laughter. Well, it was nice to know he had gotten on this guy's good side.

Of course he could see coming that this guy would try to push it on himself, he had just done the same after all. Well, he would of made a snarky comment and kept this going for a good while, had it not been for the arrival of one of the sisters. Kane called her Sister Rianne, Yohan tried to remember if he heard of her or not. Nothing really came at the moment, he'd probably have to look into it later. It was kind of fun to see this Rianne volunteer to help pick up the garbage, only for Kane to step in and tell her how she was too important to be doing such lowly duties. This made Yohan reflect a little on himself before hearing Kane make a request to join her on the next mission.

Oh, this probably brings back so many memories for you, the voice in his head returned to comment. Of course for you it was because you were younger, but you have to admit, it's kind of like seeing into a mirror. Yohan found it hard to deny this, he remembered a lot of people he used to look up to. Oh, right, nearly forgot. Sorry, won't bring it up again. For now, Yohan had no choice but to look away from that point, he had no time to be worrying about that when he was within these walls. Because of him going into his thoughts, he finally noticed Kane starting to ramble on and on. This caused Yohan to grin, this guy was certainly interesting in his book, and normally he would of found people like this strange, but he had to remember he had known a lot of strange people for years now.

"Um, I don't mind helping clean up. Sorry for just standing around like a goofball, but you know, when life gives you a bin of trash, you never know what you're gonna get." Yohan gave a silly smile after he said this, of course he did it on purpose, why wouldn't he? He never had much opportunity to do so before, and he wasn't going to waste such a good chance to let loose on new people. Of course, this could be good or bad depending on how you viewed it, but he had good intentions with it. Dropping down on to one knee, if neither of them went to stop him, he would begin picking up trash and start putting it into the bin that had not long ago sat comfortably over his head.

Interestingly, both of the recruits offered to clean up. They seemed pretty eager to play their role at the academy so she figured she'd let them do as they pleased. "Nobody's ever too important to neglect basic things like cleaning, that kind of mindset is for rich folk. Which, you know, I'm not." Rising to her feet, Rianne dusted her gloves off and nodded approvingly at the two of them. "Alright, I'll leave the both of you two it, then." She'd been preparing to part ways, but Kane had something to add before she turned around. A lot of things, actually, and it was starting to get a little irksome.

"Hold it." Rianne held up an open palm to silence the young man. She didn't mind that he was excited to fight alongside his peers, but that attitude was definitely going to get him killed. "That's not for me to decide. There's a reason why we don't take most assignments on a volunteer basis - rookies looking to prove themselves by tagging along on missions out of their league usually ends with a body count; theirs, or their superiors."

With that said, she did begin walking slow circles around Kane, looking him up and down, trying to see if she remembered anything about this particular recruit. If he showed some promise, then maybe. . . nah, that didn't seem likely. "Now, apprenticeships are another matter entirely, but I'm not the most qualified person for that. Besides, I'm not looking to take anybody. At least. . . at least not for a few days."

Rianne scratched the back of her head and let out a sigh. Not the greatest timing in the world, but that should be enough to dissuade him from getting ahead of himself. Her job as a priestess is to watch out for people, and adding one more to the list isn't going to make things easier - not to mention someone that was bound to be a liability on the field. Heck, even keeping herself alive is enough work as it is.

A short laugh from a little bit away would've caught the group of Kane, Yohan and Rianne's attention. Another Exorcist, sword at his hip, stood a little further away. A derisive smirk lined his features, and he quite nonchalantly strode up to Rianne and scoffed at her. "You? An apprentice? I understand that you're a woman and all, but surely you can't be that thick, can you?" The man crossed his arms, shaking his head in disappointment. "Please, a First Class scoundrel like you, 'Sister' Rhiannon, isn't worth being tutored by. I'm sure that idiot," he motioned towards Kane, "could learn more mopping floors than from someone with mop-hair like yourself." He looked her up and down then, satisfied, turned to Kane. "And you yourself should give up on becoming an Exorcist. You're way too soft. Of course, a lowly idiot like yourself is bound to be that type of person, am I right?" The Exorcist let out a hearty laugh, his white cloak hiding all of his outfit aside from the blade being visible under it. He turned to Yohan, and his face became stoic. "And you're not even worth more than this sentence."

He turned back to Rianne, putting his hand on his hip as his grin returned. His cloak fell open a little as he put his hand on his hip. "Do you have any objections to my advice for the two of you?" Hanging around visible his bicep was a black Armband with a white WDL insignia and a gold pin attached to it. He stood there, tapping his foot slightly as if he had somewhere better to be.

Oh my, Sister Rianne was even more humble than heā€™d expected given the rumours. Such a practical and down to earth attitude, no wonder she was so well respected! What she said was true ā€“ It wasnā€™t common for fledgling exorcists to go on missions other than what was pre-assigned by the staff and squad leaders, and Kane chastised himself for not recognising that fact for himself. But thenā€¦ Kane watched her doing circles around him, and intuitively lifted his arms and such to let her examine him more closely. Once she was apparently satisfied to some degree, she spoke again. "Now, apprenticeships are another matter entirely, but I'm not the most qualified person for thatā€¦ā€

Kaneā€™s heart skipped a beat, and he immediately stopped hearing her as he tried to process what had been said. She was speaking about taking on an apprentice. Him. An apprentice. Of Sister Rianne no less! Clearly, heā€™d done something to impress her if she was bending the situation to try and accommodate him! Pulling his arms in beside him as a double fist pump, Kane gave a cheer of elation. ā€œYES! I did it!ā€ Fate was clearly smiling on him now. If it wasnā€™t for Yohan and the trash incident, heā€™d have never got this chance. He'd have to thank the recruit when he got a moment. Cleaning duty WAS the first step towards greatness. Grinning to himself, he was about to speak further with Rianne about it when another, snide voice rang out.

"You? An apprentice? I understand that you're a woman and all, but surely you can't be that thick, can you?" Kane blinked a bit in confusion, turning towards the new speaker. His eyes narrowed a bit firmly, immediately disliking the tone and words of the person in front of him. ā€œHey, you canā€™t speak to Si-ā€œ Kane was cut off by the very person he was attempting to defend, who likely felt he was ill-suited to the task.

Rianne went from very concerned to very confused in a matter of seconds, staring at Kane's sudden victory cheer in bewilderment. She wasn't sure what kind of ideas had floated into that little head of his, but clearly he had misinterpreted something she had said to him. Just as Rianne was getting ready to correct whatever nonsense she had just gotten herself into, out of the corner of her eye she spotted a certain someone coming their way, and with a sense of purpose by the look on his face. This day just keeps getting better and better.

Kane was the first to respond, but she interjected with her own words before he could finish his sentence - she wasn't about to let himself get involved in what could be a rather. . . unpleasant situation. This tool in front of her may be pompous, but that confidence wasn't coming from thin air. "Wow, who shit in your coffee this morning?" Rianne replied with a raised brow after he was done blabbing, barely even glancing in the newcomer's direction. "Anyway, if you're done talking about abslutely nothing, would you kindly go waste someone else's time? Because even this guy-" She pointed at Kane offhandedly. "-is being more useful than you right now."

She slightly held back on the verbal lashings for now, but made her attitude toward him clear regardless. As much as she loved to exchange insults, she hated dropping to the same level as people like him. That said, she was quite fuming on in the inside though she didn't show it - even she understood that it was often difficult to find higher ground over someone with a more prestigious status. You never know how things could turn out with the volatile types.

"Ah, you're right. I am talking about nothing, aren't I? After all, you three fools aren't much more than wasted air, am I right?" With a smirk on his face, the man idly reached down to rest his hand on the blade at his side. It wasn't an overtly hostile gesture, but it wasn't without intent. "And of course he's being more useful than me! I have no need nor desire to be useful to someone like you, whereas he can't stand the thought of not being approved of, even by other trash. Sad, honestly. I truly do pity him." The man shrugged, chuckling to himself. "A group of dogs like you should be kept on leashes so us better folk don't have to deal with your" he paused, looking at the ground in front of him, which was still covered in a bit of litter, "garbage." He shrugged nonchalantly, a smug smirk adorning his face. "Of course, 'Sister Ran', a dog like you would need more than just one leash. You're quite the feral, after all."

His face kept that smug smirk the entire time, even after she revealed her short facade. He chuckled to himself, crossing his arms and leaning on one leg. "Oh no, I was oh so very worried that I'd hurt your dog feelings." He shifted his stance back to both legs, looking down and checking his watch. "Well, while this is not at all fun, my time is up, so I must be going to the meeting." He smiled warmly- albeit obviously rudely. "I do thank you for the small amount of entertainment you've given me. I do hope we don't meet again." With a loud laugh, the Exorcist walked right through the group, shoulder barging past Kane, and Rianne in particular, as well as 'accidentally' kicking the trash bucket back over as he eventually vanished around the nearest corner. "Take care, 'Sister Radish'."

Rianne released the spell that she'd been holding throughout the entire altercation. She timed it very precisely - right as he began leaning into his next step, she summoned a ghostly chain very low to the ground, but at least high enough that his foot should catch it while it was coming up. After all, a superior being like himself doesn't bother to take notice of the garbage beneath him.

Not caring to see whether or not he fell to her little prank, she turned around back to the two who'd been standing there the entire time and clasped her hands together with a winning smile.

"Well, I hope never to talk to that asshole again. Not that I count on that, the persistent little rat."

Kane had been quiet after Rianne had initially cut him off. Something about her expression and the way she carried herself just told him that this wasnā€™t his fight. Even if he was one of the targets. Face firmly pursed, Kane continued to glare at the condescending fellow, though briefly stopped when he realised Rianne had gestured to him. And implied he wasnā€™t doing much. He mumbled something of a soft ā€˜Heyā€¦ā€™ But neither her, nor the patronising man seemed to notice. Instead, more insults were flung both in his direction, and Rianneā€™s, Kane instinctively gripping his sword and continuing his dead stare. Say what he wanted about Kane (He knew it, he wasnā€™t anything special at this point ā€“ but one day, he would be); Rianne on the other handā€¦ Well, even a moment like this was an incredible testament to her character.

Neither a pushover letting the guy waltz all over her, nor taking it too far and starting an actual fight; she was the picture of a cool, calm and steadfast warrior. If it wasnā€™t for the rude company near them, Kane would already be singing her praises in awe. Instead, he just stood firmly next to her, and although the jerk shoved past him, Kane was really certain that he might have hurt his shoulder a little on Kaneā€™s chest. Maybe. It kinda hurt Kaneā€™s chest a bit being shoved like that, so he hoped that guy had the same happen to him. Even when the bin was tipped over once again, ruining Yohanā€™s hard work, Kane didnā€™t flinch. Rianne was managing to hold her cool. Heā€™d have to do the same.

Finally, she turned to him and Yohan, giving what was an impressive smile given the tenseness of the past situation. "Well, I hope never to talk to that asshole again. Not that I count on that, the persistent little rat." Rianne stated with far more positivity than Kane was expecting. Maybe she was forcing it a bit. ā€œYou okay, Sister?ā€ He asked in concern. She didnā€™t need to put on a brave face for his sake, especially with the stuff that arrogant man had said. It was in his nature to put the concerns of others first. Speaking of whichā€¦

ā€œYohan, step back a moment. Iā€™ll clean this up.ā€ Kane affirmed, moving up to grab the bin again. Shutting his eyes and waving his hand in a familiar muscle memory, he began his chant, a series of circles and other symbols appearing in front of his palm in mid-air, glowing blue and rippling with energy. ā€œElement: Water.ā€ Slowly, a swirl of liquid began to come from his hand, directed across the floor where the mess had formed. Repeating another series of hand gestures, the arcane symbols changed, becoming green this time as Kane once again spoke, entering a meditation stance. ā€œElement: Wind.ā€ A small gust began to form, circling in a centrifugal motion, collecting up the bits of rubbish, before being directed over the bin. In one fluid step, the tornado disappeared, the trash was dropped, filling the bin once more, while the floor itself had a light sheen to it as it was dry once more. If there was one thing Kane could do, it was clean, though why he hadnā€™t done that when heā€™d first knocked over the bucket was anyoneā€™s guess.

ā€œI used to have to clean the shrine all the time back home, Mother runs a tight ship, so I got pretty quick at it.ā€ Kane chuckled, rubbing the back of his head a bit as he explained. His levity dropped however as he turned back to Rianne. ā€œThank you though. For standing up for us. As much as I hate to admit itā€¦ Heā€™s right about me. Iā€™m a nobody. But, I plan to change that. Not because of what he said, but because I want to help this world, and the people in it. If I had the choice to become like that guy to be strong, or mop floors for the rest of my days, thereā€™s no decision to be made ā€“ Iā€™ll mop and sweat and clean until my hands fall off. Thereā€™s no point to this unless I can do something for the people who canā€™t stand up to guys like him.ā€ Kane held his hand in front of himself a moment during his speech, clenching it as he got a little bit more worked up. He realised however, that he was dragging his point out again, so he stopped himself, giving a sigh.

ā€œIā€™m sorry to have imposed on you Sister Rianne. Like me, youā€™re still training to become the best you can and help people. I donā€™t want to slow you down in that. No matter what people like him think, I know youā€™re incredible; and youā€™ll never give up being there for folks like us. Thatā€™s why, even if you canā€™t train me, Iā€™ll strive to be like you, and even beyond that.ā€ He nodded to her, smiling a bit to himself. It felt good to speak his mind like that, and he really meant it. All this had done was help reaffirm his belief and reason for being at the WDL. The world needed someone to protect it, and it sure as diddly wasnā€™t going to be that... That stale biscuit!

He hadn't expected to meet a guy like this, if only he had asked for his name, probably wouldn't of gotten it. Regardless, this guy had done something, his words spoke out and struck not the Sister. He couldn't speak a damn word about it, all he could do was remember right now. But he wanted to do something so badly right now, it was annoying to think this was the state he had to end up in right now. He concentrated with every fiber in his being, focused not just with his mind, but with his very spirit to keep himself in check. How could he stay calm after this, how could he after that... that... blow?!

You have to calm down, right now. You'll be found out if you set off now. I KNOW THAT! DON'T YOU THINK I DO?! But that guy... Who cares about him?! He only speaks words, you hold memories with you no matter where you go. You cherish them every day, you honor and respect them! Are you seriously going to let one guy ruin everything you've worked for until now?! No, but... It's just hard. There's no one here to talk to. I can't even talk about it back home! What a joke, right?! LET ME JUST DO ONE SHOT, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW! No, you will NOT fire one shot without my permission anyway! WHY NOT?!? WOULDN'T YOU DO THE SAME?! YES, ACTUALLY, I WOULD! But you aren't me, you NEVER want to be me do you!?

The argument inside his head would probably sound silly spoken to anyone, he really missed being home right now. He had almost gone and blew everything, people were counting on him to come back with results! He thought of the children, all smiling and looking up to him to bring them back news that they would have a proper home again. How many demon attacks just 'slip' under watch? How many people manipulated the systems to bring demons out and ruin people's lives more than once!? How many times did he have to look in the eyes of people who were on the edge of starvation, how many times did he have to do the same for those who were sick, infected, corrupted with something vile...

His mind raced against itself, it practically felt like he was bashing against a wall right now. He very much wanted to, but instead of his head, he'd use his fist. His left hand started to twitch, even if it was concealed as nicely as he could make it, he felt the urge to go frikking wild right now on some kind of property. His emotions were blood hot right now, and oh boy, OH BOY, did that guy pick the wrong words to say to him today. He had been so wrapped up in his own thoughts that when the sister came back and she and Kane started talking, it snapped him out of his thoughts in surprise, leaving him with a sudden concerned expression as he looked between the both of them several times. It only took him until now to realize that his inner frustration had started to cause him to sweat. No wonder it felt hot in here suddenly.

Kane asked him to step back, this made him confused for a moment, but he nodded and did as Kane asked, observing the trash to see what he would do. To his surprise, Kane used magic to clean it up. At least, he assumed it was magic. It had to be, right? Well, regardless, it seemed like Kane was better off than the average man. Seems like Kane was aspiring for greater things though, he could respect that. Kane turned his attention to mainly focus on the Sister for now. A brief moment of light to the situation, at least, for his side mentally anyway. These were nice people, way too nice for him to act up now. He had gotten lucky here, almost slipping up control due to one man's words.

... It hurt to remember. It always did. It must feel that way for others here. But they could at least express themselves openly. He had to keep his trap shut, especially with that man around. There would be time later, for now, he just had to buy his time. He had to think about the positives for now, keep his head in the game. Was this a game now? Who knows. All he knew was that he had to stay calm and keep himself under control. Under control. Under. Control. He repeated the words inside his head multiple times, he couldn't have another near slip up like this again.

Well, at least Kane finished sucking up -- er, admiring the Sister. He scratched the back of his head as he blinked a few times. Oh boy, this one was certainly a talker. He didn't mind that though, at least Kane seemed honest. "Well, uh, apologies and all that. In all honesty, I was just looking for where the rooms were, but at this point, I may need to go out and buy a few water bottles now. It'd certainly help with how hot it got just now." He went to move his sleeve and rub it against his forehead -- Ooooh right, the whole, trash incident. He moved his arm quickly away from his head before it could even lay an inch on it. Yeaaahhh he was going to have to change before sleeping tonight, oh ho boy. Least it wasn't going to be prickly tonight.

"Huh? Yeah, why wouldn't I be okay? Guys like that are a dime a dozen." She brought the cigarette to her lips again, figuring she could savor this one longer now that she wasn't in a public indoor space anymore. But despite her words, faint tears welled in her eyes and rolled silently down her face. When he opened up those old wounds, she had only been half-acting. Her blurry gaze drifted skyward, exhaling a cloud of smoke above her with a deep sigh. Of course I can't move on from that. Even now, I still miss them. . .

"Fucking bastard," she said to no one in particular.

She simply stood there and smoked, listening to Kane express his gratitude and shed some light on his own aspirations. It was strange for him to say that he wanted to be like her - he was much more determined when she was at his age, and by the sound of it, a much harder worker, too. Harkening back to the 'playground bully' comment she'd shot at Ash earlier, that was exactly what she used to be. And she still kind of was.

"If I have any advice to give you, don't strive to be like me," she simply replied to the boy, for a handful of reasons. "I'm not a good role model. Maybe you don't see it yet, but I've been around long enough to know where I stand. Just be you."

Rianne turned to partially face the other boy who had stood witness to this encounter as well.

"Once you finish buying what you need, check behind the store. There's a directory in the back." She extinguished the smoldering cigarette and flicked it into the open trash can, brushing her gloves off. "Sorry about all that. I don't think he would've paid you two any mind if I wasn't here."

Kane listened to Rianne and Yohan with due respect, pleasantly nodding to confirm he was paying attention. The sister seemed hesitant to accept his praise of her, going as far as to outright state she didnā€™t think he should look up to her. Though he agreed with the idea that he should aim to be his own person, he saw no reason not to see the good Sister Rianne had to offer. Nobody was perfect, but those who strived on despite their flaws, those who sacrificed themselves for others. Kane respected that. Even if Sister Rianne didnā€™t believe in the strength of her character, Kane could see a strong light that burned brightly. A candle flame that refused to wither in the wind.

Yohan spoke something of water supplies, and Kane wondered if perhaps heā€™d distracted him from provision duties. Regardless, it seemed it was Rianneā€™s turn to apologise to the two, though Kane simply shook his head. ā€œNot at all maā€™am. I was the one wanting to be noticed, and you did an admirable job dealing with him.ā€ Striding up, Kane extended his hand to clap into Rianneā€™s firmly, giving another one of his goofy grins. ā€œDonā€™t think I didnā€™t mean what I said Sister. Youā€™re special. I can see now more than ever what a privilege it would be to work with you. If you donā€™t think thatā€™s the case, Iā€™ll just have to prove it to you sometime.ā€ Giving a slow shake, Kane withdrew his hand, turning to Yohan. ā€œSorry about the mess Yohan, Iā€™ll make it up to you too. In factā€¦ā€ Kane brought his fist down into the palm of his hand as an idea struck him.

ā€œIā€™ve got some free time at dinner, weā€™ll do it then. Weā€™ll meet at Sisterā€™s room around six, and Iā€™ll have a surprise cooked up. Ah! That means I better hurry and get ready.ā€ Kneeling down, Kane picked up the rubbish bin, running off with it towards the garbage disposal before either had a chance to really refuse. This was going to be great! Heā€™d have a chance to make some good friends, test out a new recipe, and maybe help cheer Sister Rianne up after her rough day. He was such a thoughtful fellow like that.

Shifting away from the window as she finally fixed her blouse, Candice slowly made her way back over to Madison to observe the children in the adjacent room, continuing until she was just a short distance away from the double mirror, arms folded as she scrutinised them. True to Madisonā€™s word, they were all filing in; both the two children Candice personally had experience with, along with the four newcomers. Sheā€™d hoped to have the time to more intimately get to know each of the children, but with so many arriving at once; she might have to forgo an individual approach. A shame, sheā€™d have to alter her lesson plan accordingly.

ā€œLook at how close Ms. Himemiya is to Mr. Black, it looks like some of them are getting along well already. Marvelous.ā€ Madison commented from behind Candice, the young manā€™s voice brimming with enthusiasm. Turning to glance at him, she nodded once, bringing a handkerchief from her pocket to wipe her sunglasses, removing them only once sheā€™d shut her eyes. ā€œIndeed. Though thatā€™s probably more familiarity then I was expecting. Iā€™ll have to review Vesper and Jonathanā€™s files to see if I can glean a sense of their connection.ā€ Replacing her glasses, Candice opened her eyes once more, listening to Madisonā€™s observation regarding Rick and the group dynamics. Smiling lightly, Candice strode over to him, leaning her back on the countertop next to the researcher as she held her elbow with one hand.

ā€œRick is a fine student. I have no doubt in his capabilities looking after them, especially with my assistance and guidance.ā€ Candice stated with a genuine air of confidence, lightly flicking her earing with her right hand. Madison continued, only to be interrupted as it seemed the tea was ready. Smiling, Candice turned to face him, approaching as he asked if sheā€™d like to partake. ā€œIs there any need for a question there Madison? I wouldnā€™t refuse one of your blends even if Arthur himself wanted my share.ā€ Responding warmly, Candice waited and watched as Madison prepped her mug, though the WDL teacher slowly noticed something sheā€™d missed earlier.

ā€œMy, is that a new dress Madison? Are you planning on impressing our new trainees?ā€ Slyly grinning, Candice wasnā€™t exactly chastising Madison, more just finding it cute that the young man wanted to make a good impression on the children. She herself had dressed somewhat formally for the occasion, business pants and jacket, along with frilly red blouse and her fair share of jewellery. Taking her mug and savouring the aroma briefly, Candice slowly sipped hers, the temperature not bothering her in the slightest, briefly glancing to the radio as the station moved from Sinatra to Elvisā€™ Jailhouse Rock.

ā€œStill, only time will tell if theyā€™re suited to life here. Itā€™s a big change to go from a normal life to one where the rules you know no longer apply.ā€ Watching Rick begin to field questions, Candice continued to lean on the counter casually, a sign of her comfort in the presence of Madison. ā€œAfter all, not everyone can adjust to this place as well as you did Maddie.ā€ Candice commented, giving a soft laugh. To think the little boy sheā€™d seen so many years ago would still be here, even after she returned. Heā€™d certainly grown up into quite the fine young man, and the confidence and enthusiasm he had in who he was always helped bring a smile to her face.

I guess this is what one would call a lucky break in this type of situation. Keeping things under wraps had never been easy, especially when put under an extreme amount of stress when someone touches upon ground they really shouldn't. He could see the tears coming down her face, so she had been hurt by his comment more than she had let on. Well, at least one positive thing came out of this, he knew the man's face and had heard the voice spoken enough times to keep a good memory on both. There was no way he would forgive that man, nor would he forget about this. He wondered how many more people were like him here, he would have to keep an eye out for this later.

Seems like this Sister Rianne had some reason to not want people to aspire to be like her. He kind of felt the same way about himself, it would be awkward if he had to talk to someone who thought, expressed and looked just like him. The sister talks about the store, and this is where things started to get awkward for him. Oh, right, she thought he was a student here. He had honestly said the room part just to not make himself suspicious, he didn't want to add trouble while he was here, which had nearly been thrown out the window thanks to that guy from earlier.

Yohan decided to open and close his left hand repeatedly as he kept thinking about the guy, not to mention he needed an excuse now. Perhaps the simple route was the way to go? He'd try that, though it did make him thankful he seemed to be blending in so far. He was only here for one reason, and once that was done, he could get out of here and return to where he felt he would be needed soon. Thinking about it a little more, not even that rude guy tried making any cripple or injury insults at him, he couldn't really call it a win though considering he needed to get comfortable here until he found what he came looking for.

"Well, thanks for the tip. I'll check into it when I get the chance." It was all he could say, really. He didn't want her following him because he had no use for them. Attending classes just to learn about boring crap he'd forget as soon as he left? Yeah, no thanks, it wasn't for him. He wished he could just up and tell them, hey, I'm just here on a mission, no real biggie, I'll be gone before you know it! He'd probably miss some, no doubt, but he just figured they would meet up again when he could tell them who he really was and what he did. It reminded him of a certain laid back figure he used to know, and this made him reflect for just a moment again: SSM. He'd never forget those letters for as long as he drew breath. Though he doubted anyone here would actually care about what it meant, but to him, it meant everything.

Kane decided to speak next with lunch, at Rianne's room no less. He thanked the stars Kane hadn't suggested they meet up in his room, it would get awkward real quick standing out in the middle of a hall talking casually and such. But he had a feeling Rianne wouldn't exactly approve right off the bat, but he saw Kane get into this excited jumble and it made him hard to say no. So he shrugged and merely waited to see if Rianne had anything to say about this. Regardless of what happened, he figured Kane would more than likely offer his room if Rianne shot him down for hers. The less these two knew, the better off everyone was. Not like anyone had anything to worry about, anyway. If all went according to plan, everything would settle itself.

Rianne would've said something in response had Kane not bolted off with the trash can as soon as he was done talking. It wasn't like she was particularly opposed to the idea of having lunch in her room, but the least she could've done was let him now that it was going to be very messy. With a simple shrug, she turned to Yohan and said, "If you're not feeling up for it, I'll just tell him you were busy. He'll understand."

At the very least, it should be a decent opportunity to explain that she couldn't have him tagging along anywhere, not until the situation with Melody was resolved. Which may or may not involve her untimely death, and that would put their student-teacher relationship in a very awkward spot.

"Well, I'm gonna head back." As she began parting ways from Yohan with an off-handed wave, she said, "Try not to get in trouble while you're here, our security system doesn't take kindly to suspicious people." A visibly armed young man that didn't have the armband of a student nor the familiarity of a staff member - she wasn't sure how this random person got in here without supervision or legitimate clearance, but either way it'd be a hassle to deal with. Maybe there was justification for his presence here, or maybe he was some obscenely powerful non-human that didn't mind waltzing around in an exorcist base that was armed to the teeth.

Maybe I'll ask Illusion what his deal is if I happen to bump into her.

Kane stretched with his arms out in front of him before leaning back, looking up to the ceiling a moment before turning his head to look out the window, thankful that he lucked out by being delegated a seat with a view overlooking the grounds. It wasnā€™t that he was a poor student or anything ā€“ far from it actually ā€“ it was more so that class could be particularly draining, and there was something refreshing about being able to look out on a sunny day, take in the clouds and bright blue sky andā€¦

ā€œHello? Mara to Kane. Hey, space-case, quit day-dreaming and pay attention!ā€ At the front of the class with her voice filled with scorn, the somewhat mousy looking small woman was glaring. The teacher was shorter than average, with red hair in a ponytail and softer hazel eyes, visible behind a pair of large framed glasses. In her hand she held the book she was lecturing from like a tome, and with her other she was gesturing to someone beside her. Finally, Kane snapped out of his zoning, sitting up with a sudden urgency. ā€œR-Right, sorry Ms. Poulter. I kind of lost myself there, haha.ā€ Trying to brush off the situation with some laughter, Kaneā€™s carefree nature was met with an exasperated sigh of annoyance. ā€œWell, you better screw your head on right. This here is Erica Decall, a new recruit. She just transferred here, and has been assigned to your dorm.ā€ The teacher said, pausing as the girl stepped out in front of them all, giving a short and polite bow.

She was taller than the teacher, but not overly so, still probably quite a few inches less than 6 foot tall. Slightly tilting her head to the side as she sat back up, she gave a warm smile to the class. ā€œItā€™s a pleasure to meet you all. As Ms. Poulter said, my name is Erica Decall, and I look forward to working with everyone.ā€ Kane listened and watched her in silence, taking in her appearance as he couldnā€™t help but stare. He was fairly certain she was just a little older than him, but she certainly looked mature somehow, despite the youthful face. Refined was the only word he could think of to describe her, and there was just something pleasant about her demeanour, and the way her short, red-pink hair swayed from her movement. Maybe it was her bright blue eyes that seemed to meet his, or her trim, elegant figureā€¦ N-not that Kane found her that attractive or anything! I mean, she did stand out somewhat, not to mention her figure was definitely worth a second look - Oh crap she was heading over!

Continuing to watch Erica make her approach, she slowly extended her hand to shake his as she reached his desk. ā€œHey, Kane, right?ā€ The girl asked, still smiling. Initially, Kane didnā€™t respond, looking up to her face then back to her hand. Finally, the gears managed to click in his head, and he grasped it firmly. ā€œN-nice to meet you Erica! Iā€™m Kane.ā€ He replied, shaking perhaps a little too much, though the girl didnā€™t seem to mind, instead bringing her other hand to her mouth to cover a giggle. ā€œI kinda said that already.ā€ Sheepishly, Kane blushed and rubbed the back of his head with his spare hand, chuckling a little to himself. ā€œR-right, my bad.ā€ Slowly, he released his grip, and the girl moved over to take her seat in front of him. With the way she walked, she had a bit of a serene grace that made her almost look like she was gliding. Perhaps it was her long legs that - Oh crumbs, he was staring again! Shaking his head, Kane took a deep breath. He wasnā€™t like that at all! She was just pretty, and friendly. Theyā€™d be dorm mates, so that meant heā€™d have a good chance to make friends with her. That was all he wanted.

When class was finally over, Kane was once again left with the job of tidying up the class. Finishing up the last of his notes and cleaning up his own desk, he was surprised when he noticed someone standing by his desk, jumping back slightly as he looked to Erica, pleasantly waiting with her bag in hand. ā€œWell, shall we get going?ā€ She asked, cheerfully, Kane giving a nervous laugh in response. ā€œOh uh, no, you can go on ahead without me. Iā€™ve got cleaning duty.ā€ Moving over to start giving the class a once over, Kane was surprised when he saw Erica motioning to join him, setting down her bag and getting to work. ā€œOh uh, you donā€™t have to help wit-ā€œ Kane started, but was quickly interrupted by the girl. ā€œBut I want to. Itā€™s not really fair that you should have to do all this yourself.ā€ As she flashed another of those pleasant smiles, Kane didnā€™t have the heart to tell her no once more.

Between the two of them, tidying took far less time and was actually pretty fun. They talked about various topics, got to know each other a little better, and to Kaneā€™s joy, found that they got along pretty well. Walking back to their dorm together, if one didnā€™t know any better they might have thought the two were a young couple. ā€œThanks again for your help, I needed to get done early today, so that was a blessing.ā€ Kane said, turning to look up to Erica. It was a little embarrassing that she was taller than him, but heā€™d always been kind of short. ā€œItā€™s no worry Kane, I was glad to. Though if you donā€™t mind me asking, why did you need to finish early?ā€ The pink-haired recruit inquired, leaning over a bit and showing her curiosity. ā€œOh right! Tonight Iā€™ve got a meeting with Sister Rianne and Yohan, Iā€™m making them both a special dinner. We had a pretty rough time earlier, so I thought it might be something nice to do for them.ā€ As the duo reached the door to the dorm, Erica was the first to move up the steps, turning to face him with one of her smiles. ā€œThatā€™s really sweet of you. Mind if I help? Iā€™m quite the chef myself.ā€ Kane dumbly nodded at her request, following her as she led the way inside. ā€œOf course! In fact, Iā€™m sure they wonā€™t mind if you come along too!ā€ Happily smiling to himself, he thought back on all the doubts heā€™d had at the start of this day. Somehow, they just seemed so insignificant and distant. He had a feeling things were going to work out for him now.

Jojo snapped out of his daze, his thoughts having really been about whether he should decline lunch and go and hunt down some place to get dinner. He looked back over as a few people crowded around the newcomer. Noticing Illusion's name listing, he figured she must've been the one called Helena. He noticed Vistra, Dawn, Rick and Vesper all chime in with assistance or introductions, and he leaned against his doorframe as he closed the door, smiling warmly. If they were gonna be family, then they might as well enjoy being family, right? He looked down as Rick helped Helena up, and nodded. "These guys seem pretty alright. I think I'll be staying for quite a while, actually. Seems like a pretty chill place, as long as I get my hands on a sword or two as well.." Jojo's inner monologue was cut short as he looked up, Rick showing the others to their respective rooms. He heard the slam of a door and noticed Caius was missing, and he shook his head. He hadn't changed at all- although he wasn't in the middle of getting his face beaten in, so that was an improvement. Jojo chuckled to himself softly, pushing off the doorway to begin moving after the others.

His eyebrow raised softly as he noticed Vesper cling to Rick's arm. A small smile crossed his face. "Well, I'm glad she's found someone to be close with. I was a bit worried after.." Jojo sighed a little hard, he'd had enough of the depressing thoughts, so he hopped in place once and grinned. Fake it 'til ya make it was his motto in times like these, and if anyone had noticed his mood dampen slightly before his little bunny hop, they'd also notice it had evaporated as soon as his feet had touched the ground. "Okay, alright. Let's have a good day, and a good lunch, I'm starving!" His dialogue was mostly to himself, but anyone near him would've heard it. He eagerly followed the others, his face set in a kind of permanent half-smirk.

"I'm gonna treat my new family like the best darn people in the world."

Illusion

Illusion smiled as the others took over for her, stepping back, but leaving the bucket on the floor. A small smirk lit her features as she crossed gazes with Dawn, her grin widening slightly as she turned away. Everyone was finally, finally in one place. Her job was done, and she could never see them again if she wanted. Honestly, she really just wanted to go and have some nice, warm blo- Rick broke through her thoughts, reminding her of both her meeting and Angel. A small groan escaped her lips, and she put her hands on her hips. "Psh, Angel is a meanie anyways! But I gotsta go." A long, over-exaggerated sigh followed the sentence, and the lolita crossed her arms. "Party pooper, Rick. Party poopah~" Her lips formed a pout before she took a step backwards, saluted cutely, and tumbled into one of her broken-mirror portal things.

As she fell through the shattered space, she crossed her arms, hovering midair in the empty darkness. A sigh left her lips as she closed the portal behind her, floating upside down in the shadow-filled abyss. She closed her eyes, opening them only when one of her portals opened and another voice filtered into her private darkness.

"So, they're all there?"

"Yup, Lusy promised and Lusy provided~"

"And?"

"And what, ya old fart? I did what you asked, and somehow that Helena girl turned up outta nowhere, so that's that. Can I go home now?"

"Do you mean your region in Hell, or your quarters in the Warriors of Divine Light?"

Illusion chuckled, rotating midair to look down at the reddish-golden swirl that floated below her.

"Tsk. No answer? Boring. I'll be off now. I'll have a little request for you later on."

"Of course you will," her eyes flashed, a smirk playing across the corners of her mouth. "You know I'm the only one you can trust. Not even your wife could be trusted with something like this, am I right?"
A long, hard sigh came from the swirling light, before it slowly began to recede into the crack it had come from. "You're expected back here for a meeting, too." With that, it was forced out of her dimension, and Illusion was alone once more, She raised her hands, a small piece of glass moving just before her outstretched palms. It contained Arthur, waiting in a chair in a board room, several members striding inside- noticeably missing was one Angel D'Brightaine. Illusion shook her head, pushing the fragment away and turning around.

There were thousands- millions, even- of fragments. She giggled softly, before pulling the fragment from before open and sliding through it to plop down onto a chair right beside Arthur. She giggled again, looking around the room. "Heya, guys~!"

Angel

A soft knocking on Rianne's door would've gotten her attention- unless she was too busy crying more. After a few moments, another few knocks hit the doorframe- a bit louder and more forceful this time.

"Door's open."
The door slowly opened, and in stepped one Angel D'Brightaine. He looked around the room, eyebrow raised, before his eyes fell onto Rianne. Compared to his sneer from before, his face actually fell a little. "I, uh, seem to have caught you at a bad time. I won't be here long." Rianne didn't look up, but acknowledged his presence with a small grunt. She shrugged. "What happened to your big boy attitude? Go on, it's not like I can cry anymore."

Angel strode over to her, a sigh escaping his lips. "I actually came to apologise, Ms Rianne. And, well, it seems like my apology couldn't have come sooner." Once he was nearby her, he knelt down, and pulled a key from his pocket. He slid it into the tracker around her ankle, causing it to pop off and fall to the floor. "Consider your house arrest lifted- your items.." He stood up, and left the room briefly before returning and dropping a duffel bag on her bed. ".. Are also back in your possession. Consider this my apology for being so crude earlier." He bowed at the waist slightly, expression somewhat stoic.

Her eyes followed his movements - although she appeared to be totally exhausted, she was attentive enough to catch the fact that he had just snapped open the lock on her ankle bracelet. The words that came afterwards could not have been more heart-lifting, though that wasn't to say that Rianne was going to immediately be on friendly terms with Angel. But someone like him... well, certainly he must have expected as much. "Apology not accepted," she said, kicking the stupid tracker away, causing it to fly toward the back of the room until it hit a wall. She zipped open the bag and procured her things, giving another side glance to the blonde haired man with a scowl. "Not yet, anyway. I'll give it some more thought and see if I'm still mad tomorrow morning."

Angel chuckled. "As expected, but you should take the tracker and give it back to Isaiah yourself- I'm sure you'd love giving him the finger to his face." He gave Rianne, a nod. "By the way, contrary to what I said earlier, you're quite the proficient exorcist. That Kane boy chose a good person to follow- despite her smoking habit." A wry smirk spread across his features as he left the room. "Take care, Sister." And the door shut behind him.

Rinne

Rinne watched from a distance as Kane and the new girl entered the dorm together. A sly smirk crept across her face as she observed them. "Wow, Candy, you're doing such a good job at keeping an eye on him. Really good. He's being seduced by a cute girl as I speak." With a sigh, Rinne went to go over to the dormitory, but she paused. "Ah, this is gonna be super suspicious. Which is precisely why.."

Rinne quickly ditched her gear on the top of the roof she was on, pulling open a duffel bag and changing into its contents. Within a few seconds, she'd effectively changed into a copy of the WDL's uniform- ironically, it was given to her for the very mission they'd asked her to undergo on their behalf, for the explicit reason of infiltrating their own compound to gather data- they'd not exactly wanted to have their affiliation with her organisation known if things went sour, so the sly cat had offered an excuse. Admittedly, it would've been much funner to meet Candy using the uniform and cornering her in an alleyway and-

Rinne coughed, narrowing her eyes as she adjusted the cap on her head. It'd been a while since she'd seen the boy.. would he recognise her? Did she look older? Did she get some weird wrinkles on her face? "Ha, seriously, c'mon." Rinne chuckled softly to herself, leaving the duffel bag on the roof. She shifted into her feline form, leaping down to the ground floor and sneaking in as a pair of students went through the door. They barely noticed her, and she moved over to the stairwell and began to move up it. Her intuition lead her to Kane's floor, alongside the fact that he wore the exact same deodorant he'd always worn, and Rinne would be damned if she couldn't recognise the scent.

A few moments later, Rinne in her human form with her uniform tucked in all proper and her hat covering her cat ears, happily knocked on Kane's door. She briefly paused, then knocked on the door loudly. If Kane remembered, it was a fairly specific three-knock pattern. Hopefully that girl wasn't there- and if she was, if she answered the door, that'd be a problem.

Rinne prepared her cutest smile just in case.

Jonathan

Jojo entered the room behind the others, idly following them as Rick lead the to a table for the group of them. Jonathan paused slightly, looking around the room. He'd gotten this odd chill down his spine a few moments ago, and he looked around the room for the cause. His eyes landed on a fellow academy student for a brief moment, before her looked away. Eventually, he shrugged, and followed the others to the table. He sat down at it, quite eagerly grabbing a menu. As Rick offered to pay for anything, Jojo chuckled. Part of him wanted to abuse Rick's offer, but he knew that'd just be plain rude. He eyed the menu, choosing a good old combo of spaghetti and meatballs- can't go wrong with that, right? He nodded to himself as he chose his meal, putting his menu down with a warm smile.

Once the others had settled down, he spoke. "So, uh, how's everyone doing so far? What a day, am I right?" He grinned warmly, leaning back into his seat. On the bottom of the menu was an advertisement for a stage play- Jojo didn't bother reading much more than the name, actually. He had much bigger priorities right now. Though, the name of the play stuck with him for some reason..

A Tale of Seven Children was quite the odd title for a play, after all.

The machine beeped softly in the background. A white room, with the blinds drawn. It was almost completely black inside, the sunlight barely reaching inside.
In the hospital bed lay a pale-skinned man, not moving an inch, nor very visibly breathing, but his heart rate was fine.
A few moments later, a nurse came into the room, carrying flowers. She placed them into the vase, looking over at the man, before checking the machinery beside him.
Everything seemed to be fine, and the man stayed sleeping peacefully. The nurse, nodding to herself in satisfaction, left the room.

She didn't notice his finger twitching.
