PERSONALITY:
There are generally three sides that Cy has to himself. When he's in large crowds or with people he does not know, Cy generally keeps to himself and listens to what is being said. While he doesn't study psychology or sociology, he knows the basics and makes judgments on people through observation. Rarely does he open up to people he doesn't trust and he says little besides short, concise sentences or questions. Occasionally, he might let out a sarcastic quip. However, he will draw attention to himself and speak up when he deems a topic important enough. While he does read people, Cyrus guards himself from using his observations in a manipulative way. He dislikes messing with other people's lives as he believes in the rights of the individual and, though he believes that his course of action is usually correct, he very rarely forces people to accept his way through force or coercion.

When he's among friends, however, Cy lets his guard down and takes part in conversations. He generally feels most comfortable when he's with a small group of friends or alone with someone. He will make jokes and make his opinion known, somewhat forcefully if need be. While he may appear to be a loner to those who do not know him, he can in reality be very sociable. Once his trust is given, it is very hard to break but when it is broken, it is almost impossible for you to earn it back. Cyrus hates to be used or lied to and expects a very good reason for why someone would lie to him. However, if he finds that he likes someone romantically, he can become a bit more cautious, even if they are close friends. This might stem from a fear of rejection or embarrassment or because he is a private person and dislikes opening himself up to vulnerability or marching into a situation without a plan up his sleeve. Whatever the case, he treats his love life (or lack of it) like another obstacle to overcome in order to achieve a favorable outcome for himself and whoever else is involved.

On his own, Cyrus is contemplative. He retreats completely into his mind, his body on auto-pilot when a situation does not require his full attention or completely focusing on his task when it does. He does some of his best thinking when he is on his own, though his mind is always in motion. There are a few things which Cyrus is really passionate about. One of these is his strong opinions on politics and economics. He believes that the government is not to be trusted. The U.S. Government in particular has fallen into corruption and fraud, which hates above all else. He is concerned about the Constitution and Bill of Rights which he rather admires. He is passionate about the Austrian school of economics. He believes in the gold standard, capitalism, and letting businesses and banks fail. The person he admires the most is Ron Paul. It is not surprising that, though Cyrus is wary of government, he is very patriotic in the sense that he believes in the vision of the Founding Fathers. It helps with the knowledge that many of them were demigods and not a few of them were also children of Athena including George Washington.

FAMILY::
Edward Goldsmith|| Father (Alive)

RELATIONSHIP WITH GODLY PARENT:
Cyrus really wants to live up to his mother's expectations. He is somewaht insecure about their relationship and, at heart, just wants to be worthy of being called a child of Athena. He appreciates the gifts she ocassionally allows him to find, but what he really wants is to see her more.

BIOGRAPHY:
Professor Edward Goldsmith was an Economics Professor at American InterContinental University in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a single man in his mid-30's when he met a woman that was not only brilliant but beautiful as well and understood his classical liberal economic theories without belittling them as out-of-date. True, she asked very challenging questions, but they were respectful and stimulating. Rarely had Edward Goldsmith had such stimulating conversations with his colleagues, most of whom subscribed to flawed economic theories such as Keynesianism and political ideologies that would not accept a limited money supply. Soon enough, the relationship between himself and the woman became something more than academic and she disappeared, coming back into his life many months later with a child.

It came to some shock for Edward Goldsmith to realize that the woman he had been involved with was Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and that they had a son together. Nonetheless, he loved Cyrus instinctively in only the way a parent could understand when he first held his child, though he was heartbroken to realize that Athena could never be with the two of them. Edward raised Cyrus as his son despite the rumors that circulated about his having a child outside of wedlock. He shared his passion for economics with his only son and had high standards for him, but was never unkind. Athena never visited them until Cyrus was 13 and Cyrus grew up ignorant of his heritage.

When Cyrus turned 13, Athena appeared out of the blue. Edward, of course, was speechless, but Athena was patient with him and even talked with him a little bit before the two sat Cyrus down and explained his heritage. He had been hidden from monsters until then, but now that he reached puberty, the monsters would turn their attention to him. He needed to go somewhere safe to learn how to not just be a human, but a demigod as well. Cyrus wished he could have said more to his mom about his life and how he felt, but what came out of his mouth were questions about the gods and the world and her. She had smiled at him and told him to live up to his potential. Since then, Cyrus has attended Aeonis Demigod Academy, wondering what she meant.

FAVORITE POWER:
Cyrus prizes his intelligence above all else. He honestly can't imagine his life without it.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Cy has a pet owl as his companion whom he named Odysseus.

It was good to be back at Aeonis, Cyrus decided. He loved his father. Truthfully, he did not know of any other person he loved more, but over the years, Atlanta had just stopped feeling like home to him. He could never tell anyone he knew there about his life at school without lying or omitting a large part of the truth. Nor could he find himself becoming as interested in the activities his friends took part in. Over the Summer, he always missed Aeonis. He missed its crystal blue waters and verdant forests. He missed the other students with their extraordinary abilities and forceful personalities. One in particular always seemed to come to the forefront of his mind, however...

Cyrus shook his head, sheathing the short blade he had been practicing with in the gym's training room. Truthfully, he preferred the spear, the weapon of his mother, but that was no reason to neglect his training with the blade. He loved training alone. It gave him time to think. It was almost like meditation and today, he would need it. He would almost certainly see Belladona today and he needed to keep his head clear for that inevitable meeting. Even if he could avoid her, he wouldn't. Interacting with her was like playing with fire and Cyrus was always bad at resisting a challenge.

Checking his watch, Cyrus decided that it was high time for breakfast. With that thought, he made his way to the cafeteria. Quietly, he got himself an apple, some bacon, and bowl of oatmeal along with a blueberry smoothie before sitting down. As he took a bite out of his apple, he took out a book, The Road to Serfdom by Friedrich Hayek. It was a good book to reread.

If there was one thing Jack had in common with his mother, it was his love for archery. There was just something about the "thwack" of an arrow hitting its target in precisely the right way that calmed him and that was saying something considering his personality. He had set up a fear targets in a courtyard and currently, he was taking aim for particularly difficult one he had set up on a tree branch when he heard a burst of thunder. he cursed as the arrow went wide, whizzing past a teacher. He looked up at the heavens and grimaced.

"Goddamn it, Grandad. Okay, I will say it. I like Yahweh better," he grumbled, hoping it pushed one of the old man's buttons. Getting no reaction, he decided to visit the cafeteria, but not before texing a friend.

[To Abby[
[Hey, hope you didn't have a crappy Summer. I'm buying a tray full of bacon cheeseburgers at the cafeteria. Maybe a few will be left when you get there. ;)]

Bells had just finished slipping on her outfit when Landon emerged from the shower. Although she had seen him exposed multiple times, the sight of his dripping wet body never seemed to not make her eyes roll back a bit. He was almost physically perfect. Licking her upper lip once, she turned her head from him while he got dressed and scoffed at his question.

"Freshmen. The word quite literally holds the answer. Fresh - Men. It's the perfect... shall we say, hunting ground?" Bella raised her eyebrows at her last words while giving herself a last effort primp in the mirror before exiting the bathroom. Even though this was her yearly ritual, and a night with Landon was the opposite of uncommon, she couldn't seem to shake the thought of seeing Cy. It had been a bit since they'd last hung out, although she'd made it a point to show up where he was periodically throughout the summer, even if to just drag a wanting look from him. There was no denying that she had felt something each time he had looked at her like he so often did, though. Almost as though her heart had relocated from her chest to her throat.

The girl eyed her phone, trying to decide if the temptation to text him was worth it or if it would just stir up more trouble. Especially if Landon found out. She could easily play off the text as a ploy to get Cyrus into her bed, but if Lan found out about her possible feelings for Cy... It wouldn't be pretty for him, and one thing she could admit was that she didn't want Cy getting hurt.

She debated for a few more seconds before sighing, reaching out for her phone, and sending him a text before thinking twice out of fear she'd convince herself not to.

Hey, you. Long time no hang. Thought we could catch up during lunch today? I've missed seeing your face.

Immediately after hitting send, she threw the phone into her backpack and slung it over her shoulder. A nervousness she did not commonly feel spread throughout her insides and she willed the thoughts of the message from her mind. Throwing a look back to the bathroom, she called out "Landon, I'm leaving! Come on!"

At the word prank Lake's ears perked up. He didn't interrupt Nessa's story, but once she was done he pounced on the opportunity. "Hold on, hold on. Prank?! Nessy, come on now, you can't tell me someone called the cops on you multiple times because of a prank and not elaborate!" His hand motions mimicked his excitement. After all the stress he'd dealt with this summer with how crazy his sister was becoming, he could use a distracting story.

Having a best friend who's basically known throughout the school for her pranks definitely had its perks. One of which was always being able to hear awesome stories about what the pranks were and how the outcome went about. Occasionally Nessa would let Lake help; those were always fun nights.

While he waited for her response, he glanced down at the empty space between them. His action of talking with his hands had lead to his arm no longer being around her shoulders. Now his arm was swinging by hers; so close that their hands were almost touching. Seriously considering for a moment reaching out and taking her hand in his, Lake sucked in a shallow, but quiet breath. Then he lost his nerve due to the chance she would snatch her hand away as soon as he held it. Closing his eyes, he gave his head a small shake in an attempt to rid himself of the humiliation he felt at his cowardice.

Speak of the Devil and she will appear or so they said. Apparently they forgot to mention thinking of her will cause her to text you. Forcing himself to neither hurry nor delay, he opened up his phone to see a text from Belladonna. He smiled somewhat at the words on the screen.

Hey, you. Long time no hang. Thought we could catch up during lunch today? I've missed seeing your face.

When was the last time they saw each other? Perhaps three or four weeks ago? Bella often showed up during his summer vacation, inevitably attracting the attention of his male friends. He did his best to prevent more intimate interaction between her and said friends. It was bad enough for naive demigods to be caught in her webs, but mortals? He couldn't exactly take that laying down could he? Still, he could not help but smile slightly as he wrote his reply.

Of course, darling. I know how much you miss me.

"She is like a spider, isn't she? Metaphorically biting the head off her mate after copulation," a female voice mused next to him. Cyrus almost jumped, but to his credit, he remained composed as spotted a small grey-eyed child sitting next to him. Well, the grey eyes spoiled the disguise in his opinion. No child had that much worldliness in their eyes.

"Mother..." he greeted, trying to think of something to say that wouldn't sound stupid. His mother rarely visited him as it was and a part of him feared that she wouldn't at all if he acted like a dimwit.

"I did not know you paid so much attention to my texts," he noted.

"Is it not natural that a mother would take notice of her son's love life?"

"I do not have a love life."

"Denial does not suit you, Cyrus. You are dancing upon the edge of a cliff. If you allow your feelings to cloud your judgement, you will fall."

"I will keep that in mind," Cyrus noted. His mother's face softened, a look of pity on her face.

"All my children are drawn to impossible quests. But your love life isn't why I'm here."

"Why then?" Cyrus asked softly. It was good to see his mother, but he was anxious. She never visited him.

"War is coming, my son. A war between the gods and their enemies and our children will be in the middle of it. I leave you with this advice, Cyrus: keep your eyes on the signs that will come."

With that, she was gone, and Cyrus sat alone, a pensive look on his face.

Bella's phone vibrated as Landon yelled at the boys eyeing her, making her smirk to herself as she reached into her purse and pulled out her cellular. It was from Cyrus. She opened his text and rolled her eyes at his sarcasm, but felt a strange sense of accomplishment in the pit of her stomach at his agreement to meet up with her at lunch. Typing out a quick response, she kept her facial expressions to a minimal so as not to tip of Landon.

Alright then, mister cocky. I'll see you then. Our usual table.

Putting her phone back into her purse, she gave Landon a look as he took her cigarette. They were almost to the school building when he asked his question.

So're you still talkin' to that Cyrus guy?

Her breath caught once in surprise at his question, but she tried to keep her facial expressions to a minimum. "Yeah, a little bit. I haven't seen him in a while." She shrugged it off nonchalantly. "Why do you ask?" Bells furrowed her eyebrows and took the cigarette from Landon's mouth, placing it in her own, and took another drag.

Lake leaned back in his chair, arms around his stomach, laughing at Nessa's story. He watched her closely as she told her story, noticing exactly how into it she got and how proud she was. It was certainly one of the more adorable things he'd ever seen. When she finished, she told him he could now applaud and that's exactly what he did. Until Cory walked over that is.

He sat through the entire exchange, wanting to speak up and defend Nessa but knowing that she was more than capable of taking care of herself. After she got up and walked off, Lake turned his attention to Cory who just now seemed to notice he was sitting there.

"I've been doin' good, buddy." Lake answered with a small nod, forcing a small smile to turn the corner of his lips upwards. Cory was a decent dude, at least to him. They had a pretty good friendship, but the way he made fun of Nessa really bothered him and he had told Cory this before. Unfortunately it hadn't seemed to make much of a difference. "Why do you have to do that?" He questioned, leaning forward and resting his chin on one of his hands. Lake had almost considered getting up and following her over to the food line as soon as she walked away, but he and Cory were friends and he thought he at least deserved the benefit of the doubt.

Lake couldn't resist letting his eyes wander over to where his best friend stood though. She looked pissed with her arms crossed over her chest and a mean expression plastered over her face. He couldn't help but feel annoyed at his male friend for treating her like that and it made him not even want to talk to him.

Bella began to chew on her bottom lip, a nervous habit she had picked up over the years. She should have known that Landon would see through her facade, there really was no lying to him. Rolling her eyes in an attempt to divert some attention and make it seem as if it wasn't a big deal. "Fine. Yes, I'm texting him. We're going to meet up over lunch and catch up." Then, as she noticed his expectant look, pulled out the bunt she had rolled the night before and placed it in his hand. "And I know I'm not your girlfriend." She snapped back, picking up her pace a bit to leave him lagging behind.

Obviously they weren't together. They just screwed around like she did with everyone. The only difference was that he was protective over her and could be a little controlling. She ran her fingers through her hair, pushing it out of her face, and reached back down into her purse to check her phone. No response. Again. Once she had reached the front steps to the building, she paused, waiting for Landon to catch up to her. When he was behind her, she crossed her arms over her chest and turned to face him abruptly, a sour look on her face.

"Listen. I know I'm not your girlfriend, but you can't blame me for not wanting to tell you about guys. You tend to be a little... aggressive, when it comes to me." At that she popped her hip out and placed a hand on her side, cocking her head to the left and waiting on his response.

Lake wasn't one to get caught up in useless drama, so as Cory ranted on and insulted him, he just sat there and took it. He was shocked, yes, but Cory did things like this all the time so it was really Lake's own fault for being surprised at it. After the rant was finally over, the other boy got up and left, leaving Lake to sit there and soak in what had been said. Was he really a "puppy dog lover"? Did Nessy see him like that? God, he hoped not. It was scary enough that he knew he was having those feelings, if she knew, phew, it could ruin their entire friendship.

Lake rested his face in his hands for a moment, still letting his friend's harsh words sink in. Then he pulled himself together, realizing that Nessa was still over by the food and that the growling in his stomach was getting louder. He pushed back from the table and walked over to join her. She was talking to two of his other classmates who he showed a friendly smile and an excited hello. But it was fake. He knew Nessa would know it was fake, too. He couldn't shake what Cory had said, and he figured he wouldn't be able to get over it for at least an hour.

"Alright Nessy, what looks good?" He asked, turning to the food and trying to decide between cereal, eggs, and a muffin. It all looked surprisingly delicious. The food here wasn't half bad. It was better than the food at his grandma's, God bless her.
