PERSONALITY:
It’s hard to come across someone as chipper and perky as Nessa. Unfortunately, it can be goddamn annoying sometimes. Still, all Nessa wants is for people to be happy, despite any situation that may arise. She’s very aware that a joke or a grin won’t solve everything, but she’ll definitely try. Nessa is an extrovert and will often talk to strangers within close proximity of her. Despite her joyful composure, Nessa absolutely adores Stephen King books. Surprisingly, they don’t scare her, but a horror movie with a shoestring budget will. Nessa is very supportive of her friends and will encourage them to continue in an interest or carry out a plan, but sometimes she encourages people to do things they probably shouldn’t. Nessa needs to realize what true friends consist of compared to those who merely pretend to care. Unfortunately, she always seems to give the wrong people too many second chances, a habit that she’s trying desperately hard to break. It's kind of ridiculous how many times she's willing to allow herself to be hurt to give someone another opportunity to change. Especially since, being the bearer of perfect memory, she can remember everything anyone has done to her in the past.

Nessa is actually much more mischievous than she might let on or appear to be. Pranks give her a thrill and high jinks make her grin. To her, ‘shenanigans’ is just a code word for ‘fun’. She’s all too eager to entertain herself or others when she’s bored and occasionally she’ll act out about it. However, besides seeking the thrill, Nessa is actually quite focused on her studies and works hard for her family. She doesn’t want to let them down. Therefore, she works hard in all of her classes and it definitely shows. Except in Math. Gods, Math is the absolute worst.

Nessa is also a huge superhero fan, it doesn't matter from what universe or of what kind, she admires all of them and how each one is the same kind of blank canvas. They're all a little different with their own little vices, but they're good people deep down and Nessa hopes more than anything that she has that same kind of heroic capability of selflessness locked down in her chest, even though she's already a pretty giving person.

LIKES:
Superheroes: She likes that they are more or less heroic and somehow, even if it seems like a rough decision, they always choose others over themselves. She admires that in people. Even fictional ones.
Artwork: She can’t draw worth crap, but she loves to browse galleries or flip through friends’ sketchbooks.
Being Friendly: She’s not quite sure what it is, but bringing the smile to other people’s faces just makes her day. This can cause her to appear overly enthusiastic or cheerful at inappropriate times.
Picking Pockets: Sure it’s all in good fun, but it’s always funny to see your friend search frantically for their keys or wallets.
Training: Nessa isn’t exactly the best at hand-to-hand combat, which is why she makes up for that by practicing other important skills such as stealth, thievery, and a little bit of slingshot. She looks forward to these sessions and thinks of them as great fun.
Books: Nessa is an avid reader and will often stock up at the library to slowly devour one thriller after the other.
Music: EDM, Alternative, Rock, Punk, doesn’t matter to Nessa. She loves all of it.

DISLIKES:
Being Treated Like a Child: Nessa has a very light and bright personality, so it’s easy to leave out gruesome details for her or treat her like some innocent kid. She hates this and wants to be fully included, even if the topic is uncomfortable.
Horror Movies: Nessa scares easily and is easy to sneak up on if her guard is down. Somehow she can manage to read Stephen King books day in and day out, but simply watching a meager horror movie terrifies her and she has nightmares for weeks.
Liars: Despite being able to lie calmly through her teeth, Nessa tries not to make a habit of it and being quite gullible, she’ll fall for almost anything.
Thieves: A little hypocritical, yes, but no one likes having their belongings mysteriously vanish!
Fights: Especially between friends. If there is any arguments going on between two friends, Nessa does her best to try and play peacemaker, but what she doesn’t seem to realize is that not everyone wants her to jump in and repair their friendship. Sometimes people just need time to cool down.

FEARS:
Being on the Outside: Nessa worries that she is simply “kept around”, like a token friend. Afraid that she is merely treated kindly by others because they don’t want to upset her.
Death: Any death. Whether it’s a friend, family, or herself, it doesn’t matter. Nessa is in a fierce state of denial about the inevitability of death.
Water: Yeah, the whole being plunged into the dark where it’s cold and there’s no air? That’s not exactly her thing. She’s rather fight an Ares kid, thanks.
Thunderstorms: They remind her of the hurricane that came and swept her step-dad’s life away. She doesn’t want to remember that terrified look he had on his face when the debris caught him and tossed him aside like a limp ragdoll. Every time thunder echoes in her chest or shakes her bed late at night, all she can hear inside that rumbling is the agonized cries ripping out of her dad’s throat. And she doesn’t want to remember.

FAMILY::
Mother / Alive: Jocelyn Solberg, a hard working, stretched-too-thin, loving single mom. She shielded Nessa from her heritage for as long as she could before accepting the fact that it was something that couldn't be hidden and is finally allowing her to attend the academy after heavy contemplation.
Brother / Alive: Brent Solberg, her only sibling. He’s eight-years-old and is not a demigod like Nessa. He looks up to his sister and now that she’s going off to The Academy, he has to start taking care of himself.
Step-Dad / Deceased: His name was Wes. He was awesome. But he’s gone now. And he won’t be coming back.

RELATIONSHIP WITH GODLY PARENT:

Once when Nessa was much younger, about six or seven. Her father did reveal himself to her. Except, it probably wasn’t executed in the most graceful manner. Just a note, if you want to show yourself to your young child who has never seen or met you before, I would not recommend sneaking into the house and waiting patiently for her to come home from school. She just thinks you’re a burglar and want to murder her. She will call the police.
It will not go according to plan.
She will meet you though, and she’ll know that you’re busy, but know about her. She’ll know that you actually love her. But then you’ll have to leave her. And then she’ll miss a man she hardly knows.

BIOGRAPHY:

Jocelyn Solberg met the incredibly handsome stranger she fell in love with after he tried to steal her bag and instead got sprayed violently with mace. Seems like a kind of interesting person to tumble head over heels for, but something about his delicious crooked smile and tricky eyes wormed their way into her heart and the feeling was reciprocated because it was only a few months later when Jocelyn realized she was pregnant with this man's child. Once he realized what the circumstances were, he revealed himself to Jocelyn and explained that Nessa would not be an ordinary child and would never grow to be. Jocelyn was undeterred with this information, naively thinking that Hermes would be with her through it all, but it was a ridiculous thought that a god would be able to stay with her and she eventually understood this. Unfortunately, this realization was made long after Hermes had left her side and torn half of her heart away. It was because of this abrupt and fragmented parting that Jocelyn never really forgave Hermes for leaving her alone with their child. This is why when the god eventually showed himself to his daughter, he made absolutely certain that Jocelyn was nowhere close.

The years passed and Nessa had a happy home, truly, she did. Sure, her powers began to reveal themselves when she would end up with twice as many coins as she originally had or she could remember word-for-word any speech she had watched, but she had a wonderful little brother and a beautiful mom and a heroic, silly father. Of course, he wasn’t her real father, he met her mom when she was eight. His name was Wes and he was incredible beyond words. He was the only one who rivaled Nessa in terms of love for her mother. It was that love that saved her and killed him. It was supposed to be a fun family vacation with the four of them and they went to the beach. Nessa can still remember the hot sand burning the bottoms of her feet and the refreshing ocean. She can still remember the hurricane that slammed itself down only seven hundred yards from their hotel room. She can still remember the color of the sky, how it looked like a huge, swirling witch’s cauldron filled with a dreadful dark potion. And of course she can still remember falling down the last few stairs and twisting her ankle, and how Wes had scooped her up in his arms like she was a princess. She can remember how he threw her into the car and told her mother to leave without him, that he would catch up. And then he was slammed against the hotel beside him by a chunk of building debris. Nessa can still see the blood leaking out of the back of his head and the horrific angle Wes’ neck was snapped.
Nessa’s done with remembering the agonizing past.
She’s ready to write herself a happy future and hopefully, that’s exactly what the fresh start at the academy can give her.

FAVORITE POWER:

Definitely cloning, especially money. Dolla dolla bill, y’all.

MISCELLANEOUS
Nessa likes to knit. If she is wearing a scarf or a sweater, chances are she made it herself and will want to tell you all about it. She also likes to sky watch and has immaculately memorized the exact coordinates of any constellation in accordance with the time of year. Her favorite is Orion's Belt.

Bella pressed snooze on her alarm clock for the third time this morning, rolling over on her side and landing on another body. Who was in her bed? Groggily, she opened her eyes with caution, unsure of who she'd gone to bed with the night before. Focusing took her tired eyes a moment, but once the picture in front of her became clear she let out a relieved breath. "Landon, get up." A small smile formed on her lips as she shoved her not-so brother out of her bed. "It's orientation day."

Once she was satisfied he was awake, she climbed out of bed and headed into the bathroom to take a shower. The water was almost scorching when she stripped her clothes and climbed in, but that was how she liked it. Ah, orientation. So many new freshman, so many more minds to corrupt. This was her favorite day of the school year -- well, one of them. It was a time where she could prey on the insecure, inexperienced new kids. Smirking, she cleaned herself and then stepped out of the water. Bella listened carefully to hear if Landon had actually gotten started getting ready. "Landon! Are you getting ready? We have to leave soon, you know how I love orientation day!"

Walking over to the mirror, Bella stood there naked and admired herself for a moment. She thought very highly of herself and was proud of everything she had to offer, and she definitely wasn't shy about that. Once she had blow dried her hair and put her makeup on, she walked over to the closet and peered in, wondering what to wear.

Lake was laying awake, and had been for a couple of hours, when his alarm finally went off. Immediately, he threw the covers off of him and went straight to the shower. Orientation wasn't exciting for him. He wasn't even sure why he was going, he was a senior after all. He had been going to this school for the past three years; he knew how it operated. It wasn't so much that he minded, it was more that he had other things he'd rather be doing. Like practicing his skills. Poseidon was supposed to come visit him in a couple of days and Lake was probably more excited than a normal 18 year old would be about showing a parent something he could do. This was the only way to get his father's attention, though, and he wanted to do as best a job as he could.

It wouldn't be too bad as long as Nessa was there. She would keep him sane just like she always did. The two of them were set to meet in, Lake glanced down at his watch, 30 minutes. That gave him just enough time to finish up in the shower and throw some clothes on. The two of them would probably stop for breakfast like they normally did before classes.

Lake hopped out of the shower and shook his head. His hair was so used to standing up that it pretty much did it on its own. He just needed to run a little bit of gel through it and then it would stay like that all day. Being very particular about the way his hair looked, Lake spent a few more minutes than he should have sculpting it to make sure it was styled just right, then he headed over to the closet. Pulling out some khaki shorts and a tshirt, he slung his basically empty backpack over a shoulder and headed out of his room. Pausing for a moment, Lake didn't hear anything coming from his roommate's room and hesitated, wondering if he should check to make sure he was up. Deciding against it, he turned back towards the door, pulling out his cell phone and sending Nessa a text as he walked out.

I'm on my way.

Nessa woke up with a start, her heart slamming away in her chest as her obnoxious alarm clock gave her a rude awakening. She reached hurriedly over to slam it off, crawling over towards the end table next to her bed, but instead rolled off of the bed with her long legs tangled in the heavy covers. She hit the hard floor with a heavy thump on her back and lay there a moment, a weak groan escaping her lips. For half a second, she almost managed to fall back asleep before she remembered the shrill beeping bouncing off the walls of her room. Quickly, Nessa kicked her way free and scrambled to her feet, this time successfully turning off the alarm. Once sweet, sweet silence swept through the room, Nessa stood over her clock, vacantly staring at it with the half-asleep kind of edge to her. Then, across the room, she heard the low buzz of her cell phone vibrating on the desk to let her know she had a text. She trudged across the cold floor, kicking the jumbled blankets aside before grabbing the phone and waking it up. Almost instantly, all of the grogginess smothering her fell away and her heart picked up the pace again at the sight of Lake's name.

I'm on my way

Crap. She was supposed to meet Lake for breakfast this morning before orientation! Nessa turned around in a flustered circle, her brain trying to throw together a to-do list. She darted forward, throwing the blankets back on the bed and turning to pull open the drawers of her dresser.

"Clothes," she murmured to herself, rooting through what she had, yanking out a black button down shirt and throwing it over her shoulder. Promptly, she tugged on a pair of blue cropped jeans and slammed her feet into some sneakers while she tugged on the sleeves over her arms. With a leather messenger bag hanging off her right shoulder, she rushed out of her room, still fiddling with the top buttons of her shirt when her eyes fell on her roommate, Priya's, door. A sinister smile twisted its way onto her innocent face and she dropped her bag to the floor as quietly as she could. Nessa laced her fingers around the doorknob of the door before bursting in as noisily as she possibly could.

"FIRE! PRIYA, THERE'S A-!" she screamed, but her voice cut off halfway through when she saw Priya's empty bed.

"Aw, man," Nessa pouted for a moment, but a smile worked its way onto her face when she saw what a mess her friend's workstation already was. Priya hadn't changed at all.

"She must be getting Hugo," the girl discerned before politely closing the door with a slight click. She picked up her bag once more, ran her fingers through her fair hair and strode out the door, down the stairs and through the front door, out into the brisk air.

Nessa ran towards the tree she and Lake usually met up under, a huge oak tree with giant drooping branches that seemed to almost try to reach down and cover you in a blanket of orange and gold leaves. With her chest heaving, Nessa plopped onto the lush grass, trying to act as nonchalant as possible while she whipped out her phone and shot a quick text to Lake, smirking slightly.

Where are you? I've been waiting for ages! Can't wait to catch up!

Lake probably knew Nessa well enough to detect her light lie, but she really was looking forward to seeing him again after so long. They spoke nearly every day while away on break, so there really wasn't much to "catch up" on, but they surely wouldn't find a problem finding a topic. Nessa took in a long breath of the sweet air. It was great to be back.

Cory's eyelids fluttered open as the sunlight from the window streamed in and landed on his pillow. He let out a long sigh, remembering what today was. Orientation Day. Just one year of hell left, then he'll be free to see anything and everything. He rolled out of bed, his bare feet, shying away from the sudden cold of the floor. Cory made his way to the bathroom in nothing but a pair of boxer shorts, observing himself rather vainly in the mirror. Quickly, he animatedly looked around over his shoulder to see if anyone was around before flexing and watching his reflection.

"It's gonna be a good year, Cory. You're gonna see a lot of girls and drink a lot of booze, you magnificent bastard," he told himself, before shoving a red toothbrush in his mouth while he fixed his chestnut hair, smoothing it over to one side. After that was was finished, he gave himself some gun fingers and a wink before he spun on his heel and exited, doing a little dance to some silent song. He did a smooth spin and yanked open the top drawer of his dresser, pulling out a dark green tee shirt and some blue jeans. With a few flicks of the wrist, Cory tossed up a pair of aviator sunglasses with reflective lenses, bounced his shoulders in a wave like motion and caught the glasses in the other hand and slipped them on over his eyes, all in time with the imaginary beat.

Once he was dressed, Cory walked out of his room and immediately went to the fridge, pulling out a bagel he had put in there last night. As soon as Cory had arrived at his dorm the day before, he immediately stocked the little kitchenette with as much food and snacks as could fit in the dorm. Food was a very high priority for Cory, so this didn't come as a surprise to anyone who even remotely knew Cornelius Abbot. Cory closed the door and leaned against the front of the fridge, his eyes falling on Daniel Keisuke's room. He swallowed a bite of the bagel and strode confidently over to the door, swinging it open without an invitation of any kind.

"Rise and shine, Dan the Man! It's Orientation Day!" the boy announced regally, throwing his arms out powerfully before biting down on the bagel and tearing the blankets off of his roommate.

"C'mon, Blondie, rise with the Sun, even though it's like, what? 8:30...-ish?" Cory teased, wrapping the blankets around his shoulders like a king's cape. He tried to imagine what he looked like at that moment and decided he looked quite goofy, mission accomplished.

Lake was almost to the tree he and Nessa always met under when his phone beeped twice. There were two texts, one from Zoe and the other from Nessa. More interested in what Nessa had to say, he opened hers first, rolling his eyes and smiling at its contents.

Where are you? I've been waiting for ages! Can't wait to catch up!

He felt his cheeks heat up at the thought of seeing her soon, it had been so long although they had spoken almost every day. Lake's fingers slid across the screen, typing a response.

Yeah, right, loser. You probably just slid under the tree. Plus, I'm here!

He clicked send just as he came upon the tree. He was approaching it at a different angle; Nessa's back was to him. The young man tiptoed until he was right behind her and then jumped out from behind the tree, yelling "HEY!" A ripple of laughter shook his body as he watched his best friend jump in fright. "Jeez, calm down Nessy." Lake winked and then remembered he still had another text to reply to. He looked at his phone and read Zoe's message.

Laky-shaky-mo-maky-breaky-achy... unless you want this to become your new nickname, you will join me for a session of before-school merriment.

Oh goodness... He definitely did not want whatever concoction she had just thought of to become his new nickname, but he was already with Nessa so he replied with an explanation.

Sorry Zo, I'm with Nessa headed to breakfast right now. Meet up later?!

Nessa was twirling the stem of an amber oak leaf, tracing the veins with her free hand, when her phone buzzed. Nessa immediately threw away the leaf, almost certain it was a response from Lake. Sure enough, his name shone on the screen and Nessa opened the text, cocking her head to the side as she read it.

Yeah, right, loser. You probably just slid under the tree.

Huh, so he saw right through that, not that she would admit it to him, of course.

"Plus I'm here," the girl read aloud, her head lifting to look around for him, but before she could catch sight of her friend, a loud, booming voice exploded behind her, causing her heart to skip a beat. She felt herself jump in fear and her hands flew up to cover her stutter-stepping heart and turned to see Lake, looking quite proud of himself as he winked down at her.

"Jeez, calm down Nessy," he told her smoothly. Nessa was unable to hold back the stream of laughter that bubbled up from inside her chest. She doubled over before rising to her feet. She turned to face Lake head on, grinning at him before rushing forward and throwing her arms around his neck and pulling him into a huge hug.

"Screw you!" she cried teasingly, resting her chin on his right shoulder. She felt the warmth radiating from his body before she pulled away quickly, worried she had held on too long. Looking slightly flustered, she yanked her bag off the ground and set it on her shoulder.

"Knowing you, you're probably starving, right? And knowing me, I'm probably about to eat you, so are you ready to go to breakfast?" Nessa grinned, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. She began to walk backwards towards the Mess Hall so she could still face Lake. Quietly, her eyes traced over him, he hadn't really changed much since she had last seen him. He still had that adorably goofy haircut that she loved and he clearly still had the mischievous edge to him.

"Did you have a good break?" she inquired amicably.

Nessa's laugh did something to Lake's insides. He felt his face heat up again and his heart sending a trillion little beats throughout his body all at once as she ran towards him and threw her arms around him. An unstoppable grin appeared on his face immediately as he reciprocated the hug by lacing his arms around her and spinning her around in a circle once. And then, it was over.

As if by instinct, both of them released the other at the same moment. The smile stayed on Lake's face as she pulled away and, if possible, grew even larger at her joke about their hunger. "Yeah, I'm starving!" He replied, following her as she walked backwards, still facing him.

Did you have a good break?

His legs were longer than hers so it didn't take much for them to be side by side. When they were, he hesitantly draped an arm over her shoulders before answering her question. Things had always been so simple between them, and now that it was beginning to feel like more than just friendship, at least for Lake, it seemed that he had doubts before doing anything. Even things that had been done so easily before.

"It was good." He finally replied, holding back a bit of his new information since he didn't want their first conversation back together to be about his drama with his sister. Narissa attends school with them since she's a daughter of Poseidon, but their father brought her to live with Lake and his mother when he turned 10. "Narissa is becoming a bit of a mess." He admitted, rolling his eyes. "But that story is for another day. What about you? How was your break?" Lake looked down at her and smirked.

Nessa hesitated at the mention of Narissa, concern flashing in her eyes. It was always Nessa's first instinct to worry about everyone else before herself, and sometimes this made her feel like she shouldn't ever lean on anyone. That's the problem though, everyone needs to have someone support them instead of trying to be strong enough to lift everyone else around them. She just thought she was rather invincible.

Nessa bit her bottom lip, wanting to inquire further, wanting to make sure Lake was okay himself, but his tone had a sense of finality in it. Instead, she told herself Lake would tell her when he was good and ready, just like always. So, she shrugged it off as Lake threw his arm comfortably around her shoulders and decided to answer his question. Within moments, there was a familiar mischievous light in her blue eyes that burned brighter than a sun while she thought back to the break she had just had.

"Uh, well... there was a bit of a dispute between me and my neighbors I guess. Nothing major, just a slight prank war. The cops were only called once," she confided calmly, her eyes finding his and locking for a long moment. She felt her insides collapse into jelly and new words found their way out.

"Twice... maybe three times," she amended quietly, his gaze making the truth slip out. Ness turned to look ahead so that she could think clearly, trying to see anything besides Lake's eyes. They seemed to swallow the whole world around her.

"Besides that," she continued smoothly, acting as if she were fine, maybe a little distant, "Nothing much, I looked after my brother, watched all of the old Batman movies, memorized seven encyclopedias, you know, normal stuff." She failed to mention that she had obsessively knitted seven sweaters while she was cooped up at a friend's house while she avoided her empty mother. There was no need to mention that, right? It's not like it was a bad thing, those sweater were some preemptive gifts that would serve a fantastic purpose later on this year!

Things were not going great back home, but there's no reason to be selfish, everyone in this whole school had family problems.

Finally, the pair made it to the cafeteria and Nessa looked skyward towards the roof of the tall building.

"Although, this is what I missed. Not the food, I mean. Being with my best friends. Life sure is dull without you guys," Nessa told Lake sincerely, smiling sweetly up at him before entering the building.

Bells had just finished slipping on her outfit when Landon emerged from the shower. Although she had seen him exposed multiple times, the sight of his dripping wet body never seemed to not make her eyes roll back a bit. He was almost physically perfect. Licking her upper lip once, she turned her head from him while he got dressed and scoffed at his question.

"Freshmen. The word quite literally holds the answer. Fresh - Men. It's the perfect... shall we say, hunting ground?" Bella raised her eyebrows at her last words while giving herself a last effort primp in the mirror before exiting the bathroom. Even though this was her yearly ritual, and a night with Landon was the opposite of uncommon, she couldn't seem to shake the thought of seeing Cy. It had been a bit since they'd last hung out, although she'd made it a point to show up where he was periodically throughout the summer, even if to just drag a wanting look from him. There was no denying that she had felt something each time he had looked at her like he so often did, though. Almost as though her heart had relocated from her chest to her throat.

The girl eyed her phone, trying to decide if the temptation to text him was worth it or if it would just stir up more trouble. Especially if Landon found out. She could easily play off the text as a ploy to get Cyrus into her bed, but if Lan found out about her possible feelings for Cy... It wouldn't be pretty for him, and one thing she could admit was that she didn't want Cy getting hurt.

She debated for a few more seconds before sighing, reaching out for her phone, and sending him a text before thinking twice out of fear she'd convince herself not to.

Hey, you. Long time no hang. Thought we could catch up during lunch today? I've missed seeing your face.

Immediately after hitting send, she threw the phone into her backpack and slung it over her shoulder. A nervousness she did not commonly feel spread throughout her insides and she willed the thoughts of the message from her mind. Throwing a look back to the bathroom, she called out "Landon, I'm leaving! Come on!"

At the word prank Lake's ears perked up. He didn't interrupt Nessa's story, but once she was done he pounced on the opportunity. "Hold on, hold on. Prank?! Nessy, come on now, you can't tell me someone called the cops on you multiple times because of a prank and not elaborate!" His hand motions mimicked his excitement. After all the stress he'd dealt with this summer with how crazy his sister was becoming, he could use a distracting story.

Having a best friend who's basically known throughout the school for her pranks definitely had its perks. One of which was always being able to hear awesome stories about what the pranks were and how the outcome went about. Occasionally Nessa would let Lake help; those were always fun nights.

While he waited for her response, he glanced down at the empty space between them. His action of talking with his hands had lead to his arm no longer being around her shoulders. Now his arm was swinging by hers; so close that their hands were almost touching. Seriously considering for a moment reaching out and taking her hand in his, Lake sucked in a shallow, but quiet breath. Then he lost his nerve due to the chance she would snatch her hand away as soon as he held it. Closing his eyes, he gave his head a small shake in an attempt to rid himself of the humiliation he felt at his cowardice.

Nessa's eyebrows shot up at Lake's insistence for more details. She took in a long breath, her eyes sliding off to the side.

"Oh jeez," she laughed, placing her hands on her hips. Nessa looked over at one of the empty tables in the mess hand and gently pulled Lake over to the chairs by him arm.

"Let's sit down for this," she laughed, and as soon as she was sitting, any shame concerning the pranks fell away and Nessa's eyes began to burn with a passionate fire that always seemed to spark whenever she was telling a story.

"It was like, two weeks after I got back home and Brent comes in and tells me that these assholes next door, just a couple of high school idiots, are just harassing him and his friends, stealing their money and junk like that. I told him to try and fight his own battle and stand up for himself, but then he comes in with a bloody nose and I know that this is just going to shit, so I agree to help him out with his little squabble. I walked into the kitchen and grab all of the eggs we have and my slingshot and I take Brent up with me to the roof of out house and I got a good number of headshots in there and it was hilarious because they had no clue where this onslaught was coming from, but that was the first cop call. They had no proof and we weren't anywhere to be found so things were peachy. About a week passed with no incidents and I was getting bored, so I went out with a twenty dollar bill, cloned it a few times and paid those bullies to give me a prank war that would challenge me. I have to say, it went really well. The second cop call was from one of the neighbors because our homemade pineapple cannon was 'too loud' at three in the morning. The last cop call was me officially getting back at them, I texted Tessa and she helped me trash their little 1974 Dodge Dart and infest it with dozens of frogs Brent helped me raise from tadpoles. Again, I didn't get caught. You may now applause," Nessa explained eloquently, trying not to brag too heavily. When it came to her pranks, each one was a work of art and it was kind of easy to feel too proud of them. She flashed Lake a bright smile, leaning back in her chair and crossing her arms. Lake definitely knew how to

Cory waited until Danny was finally finished complaining about his wake-up call, which was quite a while as he would come up with something new to add every few minutes or so.

"I do hope you realize you now have to make my bed for me tonight," Dan had grumbled, an order that was met with a rather over dramatic roll of the eyes from Cory. He shook his head at his blonde roommate. At least Dan promptly heeded the sound of his own stomach and was ready to leave within minutes.

"Come on buddy, plenty of girls to meet and plenty of people to talk to," Daniel pressed, earning a glance from Cory who headed back into his room to grab a red zipper hoodie with white strings. He threw it on, and winked at himself in the mirror before following Dan out into the hall, the thought of all the food he was about to eat, putting a rather goofy grin on his handsome face. He was snapped out of his reverie when Dan rammed into a girl behind him. It took Cory a second of way obvious staring to remember who she was. Her name was Otter, like the animal, and Dan had a clear crush on her. He narrowed his eyes at the two, a long smirk on his lips.

"Ah, I'm gonna go ahead, Danny Boy, perhaps you two would like to eat together," he suggested civilly before nudging Daniel a little roughly before murmuring quietly so no one else but him could hear his next comment.

"Or perhaps you'd like to eat each other. Catch ya later, Hot Shot," he joked, winking at Dan and chuckling at his own crude joke before moving along down the hallway, acting as innocent as a newborn baby. The walk to the cafeteria was an uneventful one for Cory, but he was so caught up in his own world where he was the sparkling center to notice.

"Lookin' like a king with a hoodie on," he sang to himself, shoving his hands into his pockets and doing a bit of a walking dance, "I can still turn heads with what I put on."

If there was anything Cory was mostly known and admired for was his ability to do whatever he wanted and not give a shit and a half what other people thought. Therefore, he did a lot of peculiar things, expecting not to be questioned about it. That can cause anyone problems. He swung open the door of the cafeteria and strode in like he owned the whole campus. The goofy smile on his face was still evident, and it grew when he saw the line of trays and food on the far side of the room. He quickly walked over and piled his tray with more food than could seem to possibly fit in his lean body, then turned to look out at the sea of people at their little table islands. He began to walk out into the mass, looking along the edges of the room for an emptier seat before his eyes fell and locked on a particular blonde. It only took a second for her to feel his eyes on her and she turned to look up. It took Nessa less than a nano second to go from "Why what a glorious morning!" to "Bitch, I will cut you". She immediately looked away, a foul, glowering look on her face.

"Fuck me," she hissed under her breath. It was all she had the time to say before Cory slammed his tray down across from the two.

"Hey, Nessa! Missed you and your bitchiness over the summer!" Cory exclaimed loudly, feigning delight. Nessa rolled her blue eyes, and avoided looking at him.

"Hello, Cornelius," she replied stonily, sinking lower in her seat.

"Ya know, you can call me Cory," he answered like always, even though they both knew she would never be so friendly. A chilly silence passed as the two stared each other down from across the table.

"Ya know, Nessie, you might even be a little pretty if you dressed like you cared," he told her, batting his long lashes at her. She gave him a scrutinizing glare.

"Like you should talk," she spat back. Cory raised a single eyebrow at her, grabbing either side of his hoodie, flicking his wrist so that the hood snapped up over his head.

"I'm looking like a king with my hoodie on," he told her proudly.

"The King of Breakfast Foods maybe, I don't understand how you can stand to eat so much," she told him, a disgusted tone in her voice. Cory made a point of shoving five grapes in his mouth before he answered.

"Well, since you asked, I'm 90% stomach," he answered around his grapes. Nessa turned to look at Lake, her eyebrows shot up in fake surprise.

"There we go! That would explain your lack of brains," she retorted sharply before getting up from her seat and heading towards the food line. Cory swallowed his grapes and grinned as wide as he could at Nessa's retreating form.

It was at this point did he acknowledge Lake's presence.

"That was a good one, she had a good one. How are ya doin', Lake?" he grinned at the boy, seemingly pretty proud of himself.

Bella's phone vibrated as Landon yelled at the boys eyeing her, making her smirk to herself as she reached into her purse and pulled out her cellular. It was from Cyrus. She opened his text and rolled her eyes at his sarcasm, but felt a strange sense of accomplishment in the pit of her stomach at his agreement to meet up with her at lunch. Typing out a quick response, she kept her facial expressions to a minimal so as not to tip of Landon.

Alright then, mister cocky. I'll see you then. Our usual table.

Putting her phone back into her purse, she gave Landon a look as he took her cigarette. They were almost to the school building when he asked his question.

So're you still talkin' to that Cyrus guy?

Her breath caught once in surprise at his question, but she tried to keep her facial expressions to a minimum. "Yeah, a little bit. I haven't seen him in a while." She shrugged it off nonchalantly. "Why do you ask?" Bells furrowed her eyebrows and took the cigarette from Landon's mouth, placing it in her own, and took another drag.

Lake leaned back in his chair, arms around his stomach, laughing at Nessa's story. He watched her closely as she told her story, noticing exactly how into it she got and how proud she was. It was certainly one of the more adorable things he'd ever seen. When she finished, she told him he could now applaud and that's exactly what he did. Until Cory walked over that is.

He sat through the entire exchange, wanting to speak up and defend Nessa but knowing that she was more than capable of taking care of herself. After she got up and walked off, Lake turned his attention to Cory who just now seemed to notice he was sitting there.

"I've been doin' good, buddy." Lake answered with a small nod, forcing a small smile to turn the corner of his lips upwards. Cory was a decent dude, at least to him. They had a pretty good friendship, but the way he made fun of Nessa really bothered him and he had told Cory this before. Unfortunately it hadn't seemed to make much of a difference. "Why do you have to do that?" He questioned, leaning forward and resting his chin on one of his hands. Lake had almost considered getting up and following her over to the food line as soon as she walked away, but he and Cory were friends and he thought he at least deserved the benefit of the doubt.

Lake couldn't resist letting his eyes wander over to where his best friend stood though. She looked pissed with her arms crossed over her chest and a mean expression plastered over her face. He couldn't help but feel annoyed at his male friend for treating her like that and it made him not even want to talk to him.

Along with lunch and dinner, breakfast was Hugo’s favorite meal of the day; though, in the good company of one of his best friends, it was made all the more enjoyable. Hugo spent his time lazily picking at a stack of fluffy, buttery pancakes made sticky with a heavy fixing of maple syrup and he was once again reminded of the Academy’s top notch cuisine as he savored the pleasant flavors and textures. Familiar faces began to steadily stream into the cafeteria, hungry demi-gods seemingly on the prowl for a satisfying meal to start off their day. A few people said their good mornings and hellos to himself and Priya and even if the two struggled to recall their names, they still returned the sentiments.

Hugo had been in the middle of telling Priya how his mother’s rich, doting boyfriend by the name Christopher had attempted to win Hugo’s favor by taking him to a championship soccer game over the summer, when his phone, which was located to the right of his plate, had vibrated noisily against the tabletop. Abandoning both his story and his cutlery, he reached for the device and Taj scrambled to move away from his position perched atop it.

[From Unknown]
[ Hey, going to eat food, wanna come with? ]

Hugo felt his eyebrows come together, scrunching in confusion, and his lips became pursed in intrigue. The phone number was foreign to him, he decided. Quickly cutting into his pancake and popping a piece into his mouth, he chewed leisurely as he sent a reply. His elbows rested against the table.

[To Unknown]
[ lol, sorry. Who is this? ]

Pree,” Hugo questioned around the food in his mouth, “Do you know who this number belongs to?” He set his phone on the table, sliding it towards her.

Priya glanced across at the phone, picking up her toast with one hand and taking a bite while the other hand pulled the offered mobile closer for inspection. Her eyes scanned the number, and it only took a second to recognise the digits of her half-sibling, Tessa. Biting back a very unwomanly snort of laughter, Priya had to quickly gulp down her mouthful of bread and jam before she could properly answer.

Hugo’s little crush was well known to her, just as she was sure that her half-sister had more than a few romantic feelings for her pseudo-brother. Personally, she couldn’t see the appeal. Sure, Hugo has handsome enough, athletic and fit with defined muscles and abs, while dark, caramel curls frame a usually playful, smiling face, and ducky chocolate eyes seemed to sparkle with some mischievous plan. Priya supposed eyes were always good.

But Hugo was also a frustrating fool who frequently pretended gravity was failing in order to squash Priya to the ground, or wouldn’t stop teasing for getting a milk moustache one time. In short, he was just as much a brother to her as her own step-brother, and it was this bond that probably stopped her seeing him in all his resplendent glory. A fact that Priya could only think a hasty “Thank you Gods” to before responding to Hugo.

“That’s Tess’s number.” She told him, quickly putting down her piece of half-eaten toast so that she might hold his phone with two hands. Her thumbs make quick work of sliding up the messages already sent, and though she sees nothing juicy to use as ammunition, there’s still no reason not to tease Hugo, “’Lol, sorry. Who is this?” Priya reads, arching an eyebrow at her close friend, “Do you want to stay single forever?”

One moment the contents in his mouth were a harmonious combination of spongey breakfast confectionary and maple-flavored liquid ambrosia and the next they were a thick, heavy mass that stuck to the insides of his throat. Unable to control his reaction to the sudden tickle in his throat, Hugo began to cough uncontrollably. He tried to save Priya from the impending spray of masticated pancake by placing his curled fist in front of his mouth and turning away to face the opposite direction. At that moment, it was just a mess of Hugo trying to cough and swallow back his pancake. Priya’s whiskey colored eyes twinkled with teasing recognition and Hugo sent a glare in her direction, though it probably looks pathetic during his bout of coughs.

Tessa White is a fellow demi-god at Aeonis- seventeen years old and a junior, just as Hugo is, and a half-sister to Priya as the daughter of Hephaestus. Now, Hugo doesn’t recall the exact moment in which he saw her, only that he began to see her all the time. She often lingered in corner of his eye, standing there in the back silently observing the area around her and almost fading into the shadows. Hugo didn’t know how people could just disregard someone like Tessa, despite the shyness she possessed, because as someone who’s been around quite a few beauties in his time, Tessa is something else. She has long, golden blonde hair that comes to frame a heart shaped face. In turn, the face houses a cute button nose, big wondrous baby blue eyes, and petal-soft looking lips that are always turned upwards at the corners in a sweet smile. She just has this aura about her, one that’s dazzling, alluring, and charming all at the same time. It has Hugo gravitating towards her, wanting to get to know her, but although he retained the status as a shameless flirt, there was something about Tessa that just stopped him in his tracks.

How does she even have my number?” Hugo asked, voice rough after he managed to stop coughing. He turned to her with his eyes narrowing and cheeks warming, “Was it you, you traitor? My goal is to actually get her to like me you know- wooing a woman is an art form that takes time and preparation.” So what if Hugo’s spent more than the required amount of time trying to gather enough courage to talk with her. However, Priya looked too innocent at that moment to have been the one who gave Tessa his number. He sighed, a less-than-manly pout forming on his face as he grabbed back his phone. “She probably just got the wrong number.

There was a part of Priya that wanted to laugh at Hugo’s reaction, a large, dominant part that desired nothing more than to burst into laughter as he spluttered in his shock. Fortunately for Hugo, Priya had recently taken another bite of her breakfast and in order to maintain some semblance of dignity, and not spray the table with bits of half eaten toast, held the teasing laughter in. She made do with a devilish gleam in her eyes and a growing smirk as she swallowed her food.

“I didn’t give her your number, but I want to shake the hand of whoever did. Honestly Hugo, you actually have to talk to someone for there to be any chance of getting to know them.” While the advice was definitely sound – even if it was given in a rather teasing manner – it was probably a bit rich coming from Priya Aiken, who was known to fumble over her own words when speaking to the object of her own affections. Still, it was far easier to offer advice regarding other people’s love lives and she was very much invested in the idea of Tessa and Hugo getting together.

“Who’s to say it wasn’t the wrong number?” She offered, biting back another laugh at Hugo’s pitiful pout, “Why don’t you send her another text and ask? Or better yet just ask her out?”

Easier said than done,” Hugo thought bitterly. He refrained from saying mentioning anything about Priya’s lack of communication, though still more than what he has with Tessa, with her own point of interest: Cornelius Abbot. In all honesty, the guy is a complete and utter prick. He has been nothing short of an ass towards Nessa and he’s not exactly all sunshine and rainbows towards Hugo. Weren’t the kids of Apollo supposed to be the nice, happy ones? Hugo would much rather Priya didn’t have any contact with the man at all, let alone date him.

Just as Hugo was about to formulate a response to Tessa – speak of the devil – Hugo looked up to see not only Cory, but his sister Nessa and her boyfriend Lake, as well. Hugo couldn’t hear what they were saying from his distance, but just by looking at Cory, his body language cocky and stupid-looking, he knew that he was already harassing Nessa. “Pree, I think we should go say hi to Nessa.” Hugo hissed, his voice sounding distant, “It’s been all summer since we’ve seen her.

For all that Hugo was a known flirt and usually had enough confidence to woo with the most intimidating of girls, his inability to speak with Tessa was slightly perplexing to Priya. Yet, all thoughts of Hugo’s romances were pushed out of her mind the moment she followed his gaze. Nessa was walking towards the food line, her familiar head of blonde hair bringing a smile to Priya’s face. Nessa had been as good as a sister to Priya ever since they’d be put in the same dorm their first year of Aeonis. Seeing her was like completing the circle. Of course, these thoughts were also pushed from her mind as her gaze came to fall on the figure from which her dorm mate was fleeing – Cornelius Abbot. Cory doesn’t receive a smile, but rather a blush as Priya watches him grinning at Lachlan.

“Yes, let’s go say hi.” Priya agrees, nodding to emphasis her point. Though, while she sincerely means to say hi to Nessa, her gaze is still fixed on Cornelius Abbot and her smile seems to widen the longer she watches him. While Nessa and Hugo may think her crush ridiculous, Priya refuses to listen. She could list a million and one reasons why Cornelius is the epitome of what a young man should be. He’s funny, witty, smart, and that carefree smile always has Priya lost for words. “Then we can go chat with Lachlan.” Priya adds, cutting her gaze back to Hugo and putting on her best innocent smile. Priya isn’t particularly close to Lachlan and it’s probably more than clear why she wishes to join the table so recently exited by Nessa.

Hugo bites his tongue as he watches Priya get all dopey eyed in Cory direction, but instead of saying anything, he just grabs her by the sleeve of her shirt and leads her over to where Nessa is collecting her breakfast. The fizz of annoyance in his stomach begins to lessen at the sight of his adorable, goofy sister- one of which he hasn’t seen in ages. As silently as he can, Hugo lets go of Priya’s sleeve and creeps up behind the blonde. At the same time as he places a hand on Nessa’s shoulder, he quipped a low “Boo!” into her ear.

Nessa angrily threw food rather messily on her tray, Cory's comments had already ruined her sunny disposition and now she had detached herself from Lachlan. At the thought, she looked rather surreptitiously over her shoulder, her eyes locking with Lake's who was watching her, just as she was. Great, she had left him and looked like a total jerk to his friend. Way to go there, Solberg, you really nailed that one. She pressed her lips together in a thin line and turned away, her neck bent gracefully. She rolled her eyes at herself.

She was being ridiculous!

How could she let someone as insignificant as Cornelius Abbot get to her? Someone like him shouldn't be able to have this much power over her. Nessa let out an exasperated huff, she always did this! She felt remorse afterwards and would vow to chill out, but the moment Cory smirked at her, his lips opening to let loose some ignorant or arrogant comment, something in her gut twisted and let loose fire in her veins and venom on her tongue. She scowled down at the pile of fruit salad, still immersed in her own thoughts when a deep, familiar voice shouted in her ear.

"Boo!" it shouted, making Nessa jump, nearly tossing her food on the floor. Luckily, it landed with a clatter on the counter instead. She whirled around as quickly as she could, her heart screaming out the name of who it was before her lips did.

"HUGO!" Nessa squealed loudly, immediately throwing her arms around his torso, ignoring the fact that she practically tackled her brother.

"I have so much to tell you! Shit went down this summer, but I can tell you all that later! I missed you so, so, so much!" she rambled, words tumbling out of her mouth as quick as she could manage. Nessa's gaze peeked around Hugo's frame, catching sight of Priya. She released Hugo to pull Priya into a much gentler hug. Gods, it felt better than amazing to see them again. To see her family again. She pulled away from Priya to look right into her eyes.

"I made you a lot of sweaters. I'm actually really sorry," Nessa told her sincerely before her light laugh couldn't hold back any longer.

"It's so good to see you guys! Never leave me alone in that house again." she told them, staring up at them with big, blue doe eyes. Hopefully, the two of them understood her family's disfunctionality well enough to pick up on that without her having to go into detail about her absent mother. However, any thought of her mom disappeared after that, how could she think back to that when her best friends in the entire world were finally back with her?

Cory was relishing the exchange he had with Nessa for a few sweet moments, before Lake asked his question.

"Why do you have to do that?" he asked the Son of Apollo. Cory's eyes fell on him and he saw that Lake was like, actually upset. Cory rolled his eyes and leaned back in his seat, a smirk still on his lips.

"Sorry, are you... upset about that?" Cory asked innocently. He reached back to scratch the back of his head, the smile falling off of his face.

"C'mon Lake, I'm just blowing off a little steam, it's no big deal and Nessa is perfectly fine. She'll get over it," he told him in a reassuring voice. Cory could have left it there, he really could've, but he was Cornelius Abbot.

So he didn't.

His demeanor got even darker and his tone was more venomous than before, trying to press some buttons and maybe hit a nerve with Lake. It would be kinda fun to see the kid get flustered. So, with a dismissive wave of the hand, Cory began his spiel.

"I know Nessa, Lake. Dare I say it, maybe even more than you the Solberg Expert, ya got me? And I know Nessa is fine and can take care of herself, you saw that yourself, man. She doesn't need some little...," Cory trailed off at this time to think of what would shut him up and look Lake up and down judgmentally, raising his eyebrows, "Puppy dog lover or whatever you are to her, stand up for her, so take my word for it; Nessa is okay and she will be whether or not you're there. Pinkie promise," Cory insisted, hooking his pinkie through Lake's before he could protest.
Quickly, he stood up, eyes falling on Hugo and Priya talking with Nessa. He fought the slight urge to go talk to Priya, partially to annoy Nessa even further, but partially because Priya was... well wonderful. However, Hugo was there and he really hoped Nessa wasn't tattling to her brother like a kindergartner. Hugo was tough enough to deal with already. Better play it safe and leave before Hugo caught sight of him and came at him like a bull. He raised his eyebrows down at Lake.

"Uh oh! Big Brother Alert! You know how it is; I gotta bounce. Again, everything is good. If you relax a little bit and become you know, Lake again, come find me, Champ," he told Lake, once again, a friendly edge to his voice.

Typical Cory; say what you want and then end it in a friendly manner. Of course, he always risked the possibility of losing one of his few friends here by doing that, but he never said anything that he didn't think the two friends could rebound from. At the very worst, he thought Lake might become a little embarrassed perhaps a little awkward, but end up as Cory's friend at the end of the day!

Without another word, Cory turned on his heel and left, pulling his jacket around him, thinking he looked rather awesome.
That was another key component, though. Leave before they can get a word in on you.
If you're there for the explosion well... it could take quite some time and effort to patch that back up.
Once he's out, back in the sunshine, breathing fresh air, Cory feels much better about Lake and Nessa. Not really... remorseful.

Maybe slightly... ashamed? But no regret. Not really.

He shook his head, distracting himself from them and catching sight of another one of his friends.

Isabel Nolan.

He hoped he didn't look too weirdly desperate when he darted forward and caught her arm. A stadium-sized radiant smile shone on his handsome face as he came up with an excuse.

"Hey, chick! Orientation Day is proving to be as lame as ever, no surprise there. I don't know about you, but I could really use some distraction, have you planned that Back to Hell Blowout, yet? I'm actually willing to help out, don't be too shocked," he teased, cocking his head to the side while his eyes burned into hers.

This was why Priya loved the start of term so much, because it meant once again being reunited with the close friends she hadn't seen since school broke up. Out of the masses it was individuals like Hugo and Nessa that Priya missed above all else, and though sykpe and other social media sites let them keep in touch, it was nothing to finally being able to see them in person. The English girl eagerly let herself be pulled towards her blonde dorm mate, waiting with a wide grin as she watched Nessa turn with an excited shout and all but tackle Hugo with a hug. Then, when Nessa's blue eyes glanced over Hugo's shoulder and caught sight of Priya, it was her turn for a welcoming hug.

Priya wrapped her arms around Nessa's frame and squeezed, giggling into the hug before pulling away with a grin. "Of course you made sweaters." Priya lightly teases, more than used to receiving the handmade gifts after years of close friendship with Hermes' daughter. Those knitted goods were a prized possession of Priya's, and items she made sure never to wear when she was at her workbench. Priya had the unfortunate habit of getting oil stains on her clothes or accidentally setting her sleeve alight. Priya may have been immune to the effects of fire, but her clothes certainly weren't.

"After Orientation you'll have to give me them, and once I've fixed up a few kinks in your gift I'll have a surprise for you too!" She adds, glancing up at the mechanical bird Taj as he flaps onto Hugo's shoulder and gives a tinny chirp. The butterfly that Priya was working on for Nessa was much more delicate, and Priya was a slight perfectionist when it came to her work. If it wasn't perfect or as close to perfect as she could get it, than in her eyes it wasn't yet completed.

Though for now, working on Nessa's gift would have to wait, because Priya had more important things to do, like catching up with her two best friends. "Oh Ness!" Priya beams, "I missed you too. Next break you should come home with me. You know my family loves you, I talk about you enough that they feel they practically know you. You too Hugo, my mother keeps asking when you're coming for a visit again." Priya's half sure that her family actually favour the Columbian thief over herself, her step-brother certainly seems to ask about Hugo's adventures enough. She's sure that he idolises Hugo for some strange reason. Priya's just relieved that her step-brother's teasing nickname of 'Prius' - like the car - hasn't caught on.

Out of the corner of her eye, Priya catches movement, and she turns her head slightly just in time to see Cory departing the cafeteria. Looks like she wouldn't be greeting him yet, which in hindsight was probably wise given her current company. Even so her gaze lingers for a moment, as if it alone could pull him back towards her, before dragging her eyes back to the two friends before her. Hugo and Nessa's dislike of her crush is well known to Priya, and though their opinions are important to her on every other matter, when it comes to Cory she's deaf to any criticism. Though, for now, thoughts of Cory are temporarily pushed to the back of her mind as she grins at her friends, more than pleased that finally they're all together again.

There was something incredibly amusing to Isabel Nolan about getting on Scott Darrow's nerves. She knew that he found her flirtations irritating, and she made no secret that she thought him a perpetual drag, but there was also no denying that he was incredibly pleasing in the aesthetics department. It was also amusing seeing him attempt to curb his anger whenever she reached out to him, in fact watching the little flashes of annoyance appear in his stormy blue eyes was entertainment enough for this daughter of Dionysus. This was why, as she stalked down the path towards the cafeteria, she had a wide grin plastered across her face.

His reaction had been amusing, and though Izzy doubted that she'd see him at the party tonight, she wasn't really too concerned. She had plenty of other friends, acquaintances, and flirtations to court instead of the quiet son of Poseidon. Like, for example, Scott's half-brother. Aurel was another particularly fine example of how the gods blessed their children with not just amazing powers, but with extremely pleasing genetics. And Aurel was one son of Poseidon who didn't seem to flinch every time she walked into the room, which automatically put him higher on her list than his Scottish half-sibling.

It was this thought that had Isabel whipping her phone out of her pocket once again, opening the screen with a tap, and beginning to type out a short message to the demi-god in question.

    To Aurel
How's my favourite water child? There's a party tonight, hope to see you there ;)
    xx Iz

While her phone was out she decided to send another text, not to someone she wanted to flirt with, but to a friend who she knew wouldn't be able to miss the start of school rager. Isabel could also use his talents to help get the party started.

    To Marky
MARK! Party, tonight. You, me, a bunch load of alcohol and some of your fresh made fruit.
    Please and thank you.
    Your fav, Izzy

With the second message sent, Izzy slides her phone back into her pocket as she approaches the cafeteria doors. Yet, before she can go another step a familiar figure steps out of the mess hall, his face shining with a bright grin as he catches sight of Isabel. Izzy isn't entirely sure what has caused him to escape from the cafeteria, but she's certain that he isn't leaving of his own accord, that much is obvious by how eagerly he latches on to her. Izzy casts Cory an amused look as he greets her, her grin widening as he offers his services to help with the party preparation.

"Lovely to see you too, Cory." She answers teasingly, "How were your holidays? Get up to much mischief?" Izzy tilts her head to the side, meeting his gaze with curiosity in her own. Izzy had long considered Cory a good friend. He was fun to be around and more than decent on the eyes, both two important factors in Izzy's mind when it comes to friends. She would never turn down an offer of help for preparing a party either, so with a wink she peels his hand off her arm and adds, "Back to Hell Blowout? You know, I like that, and I could use some help if you're offering. "

Around the pair people were still arriving for breakfast. Izzy cast her gaze around briefly, catching sight of Daniel Vadas standing close behind them. He wasn't someone she was on good terms with, so after placing a name to the face she turned her attention back to Cory as a smirk grew across her lips. "You know I do need some heavy lifting done, and I've heard that sort of stuff goes so much faster if you do it topless. What do you say, take your top off and move some stuff around for me?" Izzy batted her lashes at Cory, biting back a laugh at the joke. Well, it was only half a joke. She wouldn't really be too upset if Cory did take it upon himself to move around furniture shirtless.

Bella began to chew on her bottom lip, a nervous habit she had picked up over the years. She should have known that Landon would see through her facade, there really was no lying to him. Rolling her eyes in an attempt to divert some attention and make it seem as if it wasn't a big deal. "Fine. Yes, I'm texting him. We're going to meet up over lunch and catch up." Then, as she noticed his expectant look, pulled out the bunt she had rolled the night before and placed it in his hand. "And I know I'm not your girlfriend." She snapped back, picking up her pace a bit to leave him lagging behind.

Obviously they weren't together. They just screwed around like she did with everyone. The only difference was that he was protective over her and could be a little controlling. She ran her fingers through her hair, pushing it out of her face, and reached back down into her purse to check her phone. No response. Again. Once she had reached the front steps to the building, she paused, waiting for Landon to catch up to her. When he was behind her, she crossed her arms over her chest and turned to face him abruptly, a sour look on her face.

"Listen. I know I'm not your girlfriend, but you can't blame me for not wanting to tell you about guys. You tend to be a little... aggressive, when it comes to me." At that she popped her hip out and placed a hand on her side, cocking her head to the left and waiting on his response.

Lake wasn't one to get caught up in useless drama, so as Cory ranted on and insulted him, he just sat there and took it. He was shocked, yes, but Cory did things like this all the time so it was really Lake's own fault for being surprised at it. After the rant was finally over, the other boy got up and left, leaving Lake to sit there and soak in what had been said. Was he really a "puppy dog lover"? Did Nessy see him like that? God, he hoped not. It was scary enough that he knew he was having those feelings, if she knew, phew, it could ruin their entire friendship.

Lake rested his face in his hands for a moment, still letting his friend's harsh words sink in. Then he pulled himself together, realizing that Nessa was still over by the food and that the growling in his stomach was getting louder. He pushed back from the table and walked over to join her. She was talking to two of his other classmates who he showed a friendly smile and an excited hello. But it was fake. He knew Nessa would know it was fake, too. He couldn't shake what Cory had said, and he figured he wouldn't be able to get over it for at least an hour.

"Alright Nessy, what looks good?" He asked, turning to the food and trying to decide between cereal, eggs, and a muffin. It all looked surprisingly delicious. The food here wasn't half bad. It was better than the food at his grandma's, God bless her.

Nessa agreed enthusiastically to exchange gifts with Priya after orientation. It was like a tradition they had done since their freshman year and Hugo had made his way into the event as well, having wormed his goofy way into both of their hearts. The proof was on his shoulder as a small animatronic bird let out a high-pitched chirp. Nessa's mouth fell open in shock and she immediately stepped closer to her brother to get a better view of it. With wide eyes, she turned back to her friend, pure, unadulterated joy dancing in her bright eyes.

"Priya! This is... incredible! Look at this! Well, actually, I'm sure you looked at it much more than you wanted to while it was on your workbench, but this is amazing! You've made leaps and bounds of progress!" Nessa exclaimed excitedly, celebrating Priya's mind blowing triumph.

However, the happiness that was emitting from her melted away when Priya offered a place for her to stay next break. Her eyes fell to the floor as she was caught between what she thought was selfish and looking after Brent. She couldn't leave her brother alone with that woman for weeks and weeks. That wouldn't be fair to him.

But what about her?
She spent the summer traumatizing his bullies, didn't she deserve some time away?
Her lips pressed together in a thin line before she gave them a small smile.

"Oh, we'll have ages to talk about it later, I'm sure," Nessa pointed out, sidestepping away from the real question with practiced ease. Brent always asked her what she was doing with her slingshot or eight rolls of aluminum foil or a duffel bag full of stolen police car lights, so dodging questions was becoming quite easy now. Right after she said this, Priya turned to look at the entrance of the cafeteria. Nessa quickly turned to follow her gaze and watch Cornelius strut out of the room. Her eyes slid over to her friend, raising one eyebrow and smirking.

"So, I guess that dream is still in progress, huh? Nessa teased, a strong presence of annoyance in her tone. Whatever Priya saw in Cory was parsecs ahead of her. Nessa would never tell Priya who she should or shouldn't like, and Cory was no exception, but he was one that came with incessant badgering that Nessa felt was perfectly reasonable. The girl turned to look at her half-brother, a fire of determination blazing in her light eyes.

"We're gonna prank that prick so hard this year, we'll make MIT look like amateurs, guaranteed," Nessa swore, the last word spoken like an oath. When she looked back towards Cory, her gaze got caught along the way and landed on Lake. He was holding his head in his hands and she began to rush over to him, to help him in whatever he needed. She felt cool worry for her friend, but anger was beginning to bubble in her stomach again.
What did that idiotic, selfish numskull say to Lake?!
She had only gotten a few steps when Lake got up himself and strode over to them. He flashed Priya and Hugo a bright smile, greeting them enthusiastically, but Nessa could read him like an open book. It was painfully fake.

"Alright Nessy, what looks good?" he asked her, something obviously wrong. She shook her head, trying to forget Cory and the stupidity that came with him. She stepped over to stand next to him, her right hand twitching a little.

"I would uh... well you know it's all... it's all good," she told him stupidly, stammering more than anything else. She breathed in once, twice and slipped her hand in his. His skin felt like hot electricity and she felt her ears turn an obvious shade of red. She made herself squeeze his hand reassuringly and lean closer to Lake.

"And forget Cory, okay? Whatever he said... whatever stupid, insensitive thing he said is ridiculous and nothing to worry about. Hugo and I are on the case," she promised sweetly before retreating back to Hugo's side, a hand covering her mouth thoughtfully.

"Hey, partner... wanna get started on that back to school prank? I got some pretty big plans. I hope you think you're up to it," she told her brother, her mind whirring like the gears and cogs inside of a watch.

Cory allowed a smirk when Isabel pointed out his rather rude introduction. He hadn't seen her all summer and he hadn't even used her name when he saw her. Although, this went over his head and was forgotten when Isabel accepted his offer to help out.

"Of course I'm offering, Iz, it's my only dream to serve. You know me, uber helpful and the like," he joked, laughing. This was not necessarily true.
Besides being rather self-absorbed, Cory was also a little lazy and would normally avoid helping out, but it was always different with Isabel. She could find a way to make his life more interesting than simply living out this last dull and drab year like he was half-dead. Izzy was also one of those people where if you scratch her back, she'll scratch yours and her favors went pretty far with exactly the right people. So, when he felt Izzy's tone change to a much sexier edge, he followed along and lowered his eyes at her, smirking.

"You know I do need some heavy lifting done, and I've heard that sort of stuff goes so much faster if you do it topless. What do you say, take your top off and move some stuff around for me?" she inquired lightly, batting her long, dark lashes at him. It was at this point that Cory picked up on the joke and he chuckled lowly, rolling his shoulders back, animatedly flexing his biceps, and joining in the merriment.

"Well, Isabel, I'm sure that is backed by a lot of science," he smiled while leaning in closer to her, playing her game.

"How about this," he offered, his eyes boring into hers, "I promise I will take my shirt off for you if you take off yours." The two were staring deeply into each other's eyes, silent conversations He was snapped out of it when a second voice entered the equation. He took a step back and saw Cecilia and Sourav approaching them. He couldn't say he knew them very well, but they were both pretty popular, especially with the party crowd. Cecilia would be helpful on his side, same as Sourav. They were both reasonably good people, you know, the friendly party-animal type.

“I would say I am all for watching if that is to be the case,” Izzy's sister chimed in, it was obvious that she had heard the exchange about Cory taking his clothes off. Right after, the two greeted him. Cory's bright smile still hung on his lips, maybe it looked a little vacant, having stayed present for so long.

"Hey, you two. We're just discussing how much better looking, not to mention stronger, we'd all be without shirts. Any thoughts?" Cory asked, winking at them while he held the back of his head with his palms, an extremely relaxed air around him.

Hugo doesn't really think of himself as a guy who's particularly sentimental; he doesn't weep at weddings or hoard a clutter of his meaningful childhood toys and, although he'll admit that he's gotten a little bit glassy-eyed during an episode of his favorite Spanish soap opera, he's generally unaffected by saccharine moments. However, getting a big armful of his little sister after not seeing her for the summer, Hugo's little Grinch heart is glowing with affection. Nessa's familiar sweet features, eye catching golden blonde hair, and bright beaming smile has Hugo returning her big bear hug without a second thought. As far as sentiments go, Hugo was more than happy to be back with Nessa and Priya, forming their own Three Musketeers and Destiny's Child. But let it be known that Hugo is the Beyoncé of the trio.

Nessa's ecstatic reaction and lightning-quick words have Hugo grinning back at the daughter of Hermes and they prompt Hugo to reflect her mood. "You know I'd absolutely freeze to death in the cold Arctic wasteland known as Greece without your sweaters, Ness! I hope you've made me a red one. Red is so slimming on me," He jested dramatically, making it a huge point to motion to his chest in a feminine manner and run his hands down his jacket-covered arms. Taj fluttered along his sleeves in an attempt to escape the oncoming hands, the smart little thing he is. Hugo definitely agreed with Nessa- Priya really outdid herself with Taj. He couldn't wait to see how Nessa's butterfly would turn out.

Hugo nodded at Priya's suggestion for Ness to come stay with her. "Or you know, you could always come with me to New Mexico. Mom's always going on and on about if her babies are going to come visit and she's not talking about me, she's talking about you guys." Don't get Hugo started on how his own mother seems to care more about the two of them than her own son. 'Hugo, is Priya eating well?' or 'Hugo how are my daughters?'. On the flip side, Priya's family seemed to have adopted him into the Aiken clan as well and Priya's little brother, Dixon, is what Hugo likes to refer to as his protegee. Though, Hugo doesn't think Priya would appreciate finding out that he's being trying to show Dixon how to lock pick or swipe desserts when people aren't looking. All in innocent fun.

"It's unfortunately still in progress, you mean." Hugo sighs in response to Priya's obvious infatuation in Aeonis' resident asshole son of Apollo. Again, aren't they supposed to be the nice ones? Marilyn Tsinajinnie and Juliette Kingsley were just two hot buckets of sunshine. Somehow Marilyn has managed to even befriend Scott- god knows how or why. "I have a couple of things up my sleeve for him." However, before Hugo could elaborate on any plans, he found himself in front of Lake, Nessa's boyfriend who for some reason gave Hugo a strange impression at the time being.

As Nessa addressed Lake, Hugo tended to his text messages:

[From: Markus]
[What up my Puta? I'm heading to the cafeteria for my second breaky! Doubtful they'll have any soda or fadge, wtf is a Norn Irish man to do with himself if they aren't included in breakfast!!! :O]

[To: Markus]
[Not much, my Puta! You're going to have to make do with the other pitiful breads. Shame :( ]

Much to Hugo's disdain, there wasn't anything from Tessa, so she did probably have the wrong guy. Yup. Placing his phone in his jacket pocket this time instead of his jeans, Hugo's attention turned back to Nessa, who had just mentioned something about a school prank. A small, sinister smirk grew upon his face. "You know I'm ready, you little devil you. What did you have in mind?"

For a hungry young man, the smell of bacon, fresh bread, cooked eggs and more wafting from the cafeteria is sure to lift any grumpy mood brought on by an obnoxiously flirtatious daughter of Dionysus. Cooked breakfast was a tradition in the Darrow household. Every year when he came back from school his mother would make him a spread of breakfast food that anyone would be jealous of. Perhaps it didn’t have quite the variety that Aeonis’ cafeteria did, but his mother made it for him with love and that was a definite advantage.

As his feet carried him towards the ever so tempting smells, a buzzing in his pocket make his steps falter. His cellphone is pulled from his pocket and swiped open, revealing a message from Marilyn. He stops walking to reply, quickly typing out a message before hitting send,

    To Marzipan
After school works well for me. I will see you then. Enjoy orientation day.

With the message sent, Scott continues towards the cafeteria, yet it was only a few steps later that he heard a voice hailing him. Turning, Scott finds a son of Khione greeting him, his smile decidedly warmer than the ice his mother holds reign over. Scott returns Ishard’s smile nodding as he answers,

“I’ve been well, thanks. Yourself, Ishard?” Scott replies, as always his words are short and to the point. Scott has never been one to use excessive words where few will make do instead. Really, anyone who expected Scott to launch into a rant about his holiday or some other topic obviously had no idea of the boy’s reticence. He’d much rather listen or offer small tidbits here and there rather than control the whole conversation. Thankfully, he was slightly more talkative with his friends, and Ishard happened to be an individual that Scott was fond of.

“Your break was good?” Scott asks as he enters the cafeteria through the open door, nodding his thanks at Ishard. Inside, Scott takes a moment to scan the hall, his eyes spotting Marilyn sitting across the cafeteria, before landing on Izzy loudly chatting with a group of friends including Scott’s own half-brother Aurel. Scott turns his gaze away from Isabel Nolan, giving Ishard his full attention as he walks towards the spread of delicious food on display, “Your sister is well too?” Scott asks politely.

It was all Priya could do to keep her smile from growing too big to contain on her face. She’s practical in that she knows her inventions are far from the average knick knacks one can find at the local market, but she’s modest enough to still blush slightly at Nessa’s compliments and brush them away. Yet, she’s always overjoyed when her projects entertain her friends, and if this is how Nessa reacts to Hugo’s gift, Priya can’t wait to see how Nessa acts when she’s given her previous butterfly.

Of course, the momentary dip in Nessa’s emotions does not go unnoticed by Priya and she hopes that between herself and Hugo they can help figure out a way around Nessa’s home like. Of anyone, Priya believes that Nessa should be able to enjoy a holiday away guilt free and Priya would do anything to have that holiday be with her own family or with Hugo’s mother. Mother Rojas was a favourite of Priya’s, who loved nothing more than to visit Hugo’s home and breath in the comforting smell of her home cooking. Priya was also favourable to admiring all of Hugo’s baby and childhood photos, particularly the embarrassing ones that his mother always insisted on bringing out, much to Priya’s delight. Yet, before Priya can reply, she’s being caught out for staring after Cory. Priya is quick to move on in order to defend herself and the object of her affection as both Nessa and Hugo turn their attention to teasing her. Priya is well aware of their distaste for the young man, but as she’s stated to the both of them many times before and will continue to remind them, to her, he’s perfect.

“Guys, please.” Priya started, sighing and shaking her head as her best friends planned a devious prank for the guy she was crazy about. Knowing what Hugo and Nessa could come up with alone was scary enough, but put those two ingenious minds together and you’re in trouble. Priya can only hope that whatever they decide to do won’t maim is beautiful face. “He’s not that bad…” Priya’s sentence trailed off, knowing that whatever she said would fall on deaf ears. Instead she made a silent promise to herself to check up on Cory later in the day, possibly warn him to watch his step and double check whatever he was about to eat… just to be safe. Priya wouldn’t have dreamed of attempting to stop the prank, she may be crazy for Cory but she also knows her best friends well enough to know that when they’re determined to pull a prank, they will.
