Clouds filtered through his mind. Soft cotton touches as he spread imaginary wings of the purest white wide, soaring through the sky. His wings weren't made of wax, no, they were all natural, stolen straight from the back of his guardian angel. He flew as close to the sun as any sane man would, feeling the burning heat against his skin. A smile lit his face as went, the cool breeze counteracting the vicious heat. Flying dreams. They always were the best. He passed through another cloud, this one harder than the previous ones, less like a mist and more like a down pillow...

"I wanted to make sure the first thing you woke up to was this pretty face. Now come on, there's some meeting that we were supposed to be at ten minutes ago called breakfast," came a voice from the sun.

Altair's eyes fluttered open, his head lolling to the right to stare bright eyes and vibrant hair in the face. The gentle smile that had been lifting his lips slowly curved downwards, his brow creasing. A groan escaped him, the harsh ridges of the vocalization strange to his sleep riddled mind. He tossed the pillow back in his roommate's face.

Daniel danced away, music in his step. Altair had nothing against music, maybe a little against visual music this early in the morning. He rolled back onto his side as Daniel rummaged through his bag, spreading out his arms as he stared at the stark white ceiling. His limbs were jelly, or possibly anvils, he couldn't quite decide yet. Either way, they were proving impossibly difficult to move. Dreams invaded his mind once more, white disappearing into a dull blackness.

The closing of the closet door woke him from the ten-second doze he had drifted into. He waited another two seconds before hauling his torso up and off the mattress, the plush down of it calling out to him as soon as he was up. His long legs swung over the side of the bed, and he bent down to pull out a long strand of denim from his duffel bag, unfolding the neatly packed pair of jeans. If there was anything his mother taught him how to do well, it was pack. Taking advantage of Daniel's changing in the closet, Altair changed out of his pajama bottoms, tugging on a pair of boxers followed by the jeans. And so he stayed, sockless and shirtless, perched on the edge of the bed, eyes glazed over as he lost himself in some sort of reverie.

Again, the sound of the closet door tore him from the recesses of his mind, and he jolted up as Daniel emerged, dancing once more, from the closet. He started saying something, but stopped midway through his sentence because of some announcement that only half made it to Tair's ears. There was some mumbling from Daniel that, once more, Tair only half heard. He tossed his head back, another groan sounding from his throat, messy bedhead flopping back with the motion.

He rummaged around in his bag, looking for a suitable shirt for the weather. His fingers moved lethargically, fumbling with the cloth. He had been up late last night, after Daniel had fallen asleep, plucking away soft gentle melodies on his guitar and thinking on things he couldn't even remember thinking about. As a result, tiredness stayed with him like a fog over his eyes, cotton in his mind. He pulled out a t-shirt, but it was early in the morning and already he could feel the chilliness from the open door in the form of goosebumps on his arms. He frowned, dug around some more, and pulled out a long sleeved shirt.

"I'm coming, I'm coming," he mumbled, tugging the t-shirt over his head. The button-up followed, then a leather jacket that lay at the foot of his bed. He was always particularly susceptible to the cold. A joke was always on the tip of his tongue about his heritage. "I'm from the equator," he'd say, though that wasn't exactly true, "I can't handle the cold." Multiple layers were always necessary.

Finally, he pulled on some socks, shoving his feet into the work boots he had left on the floor the night before. Unlike Daniel, who was reckless he supposed, he did bend down to tie his laces. He had no desire to trip that day. With a soft grunt, he pushed himself up, shuffling towards the door. Daniel was tapping out a message on his phone, and Tair nudged him as he walked out the door.

As always, the first step into the fresh morning air was invigorating, and he breathed deep as another smile spread across his face. He was reminded of the phone shoved in his back pocket, and he pulled it out to shoot a quick message to the two people he was most eager to see after the long summer break.

To: Sleeping Beauty; Dream Queen
Meet up after breakfast and the assembly? I can't wait to see u guys i missed you!! :)

His texting style was erratic, a constant mix-match of text talk and proper spelling, ever changing. But his sisters, whom he had been keeping touch with over the summer, were surely used to it by now, if only due to the sheer amount of texts he had sent them.

He turned back to Daniel, still on his phone, calling out, "Daniel, hurry up!" Irony, perhaps, that the two of them were yelling at each other to hurry up at the same time.

_____Silence, while many might find it to be the bane of their existence, was something she had learnt to cherish. That of course not meaning she abhorred talking or a light ambiance, but screaming and thing that were obnoxiously loud irritated her to no end. With Levi though, she didn't have to worry about that. Sentences dying at the lips, but somehow conveyed to the other without even meaning to sometimes. And it was times like these that Brair truly was grateful for his understanding. "I went back to Italy this summer. It was a family reunion...on a boat,"with the last words she couldn't help but chuckle and the last thought of 'It was so beautiful, peaceful.' didn't escape her either.

"If this guest is important, we'd best not be late. Also, can't miss a show like that year," he spoke softly and she nodded in agreement.

And so began their walk to the Dinner Hall where the guest speaker would make an appearance. She had speculations of her own, but kept quite knowing her thoughts were far fetched and out there. But, one such possibility would be that the God among Gods wanted them to fight in a battle of the eons. Valiantly fighting to the death, and hands stained a rose red all the while smiling a macabre grin. Humanity was not a thing to trifled with, but then and there no one seemed to have a soul. It fascinated and scared her at the same time and honestly she wasn't sure which one she thought better of.

Briar quickly shook her head trying to rid herself of such images, but while one can deny they happened it won't erase the fact that they did. She was brought out of her musings by a text from her brother and smiled when she saw the message, but as she was replying another text came in from her sister. Smiling Brair quickly sent a text back excited to see them for the first time in months.

to ; Sandman, Dream Queen
from ; Sleeping Beauty

Don't get into too much trouble from waiting, I can't bail you out quite yet.

As the message sent a soft sigh escaped past her lips and formed a white mist before her - it reminded her so much of the dreams cape she so usually went to. It was where her bed was made of clouds that hovered above the city, and the people below thought her as nothing but the moon; reflecting light of another tomorrow bringing hope for another day.

"Briar..." his voice brought her of the haze, "Sometimes I look at the night sky, and I know I want to be there... it sounds idiotic..." she shook her head in a frantic no and began to explain while she thought so differently."It's not stupid, no it's certainly not that, it's just impossible for that to happen right now.., she didn't try and demoralize, but rather give him a more realistic outlook. Dreams aren't foolish and neither is wishful thinking. With an almost wicked grin a plan had formulated and it was only a matter of time before she could set it in motion. Although, that was something for a later time, literally and figuratively.

But so caught up in her own thoughts she didn't realize that Levi hadn't been paying attention to her. (Which silently she was grateful for; if he saw her face he'd know something was amiss.) His attention had been on his phone but she did't mind. In fact the light blush on his face after sending the last text message she knew something was up with him. He probably didn't even notice it himself, but his demeanor changed into something softer - if that was even possible.

And so trying to playfully mess with him she asked"Who was that?"and even though she didn't expect a response looked eager as always. She knew of course that he was gay, even if he didn't say it outright. No matter though, she still loved him as though he was her younger sibling. "A person of interest?"

He didn't answer her though as a girl with blonde hair and lips as red as roses reenacted a scene from Spider man. 'Lois Lane, huh?' Briar disregarded the rest of their conversation but felt the bench move as the girl swiftly jumped over the back. "Hello," she said though not wanting to be rude.

She had risen with the sun, gently placing her bare feet on the cold wooden floor with a soft hiss. Restlessness had plagued her that night, tossing and turning with no chance of dreams in sight. So she stole away into the dawn. Quietly, as to not wake her sleeping roommate, she threw on a sweater (her favorites), a pair of jeans, and some shoes and slipped out the door. She didn't know exactly where she was headed, but she knew a walk was needed. Her feet led her to the trail that led to the cemetery on instinct, so often had she traveled the path. Coming upon the tombstones, she was half tempted to raise one of the souls for a nice conversation. She opted against it, though, knowing she was already tired, and any exertion could lead to a pounding migraine. So she passed the graveyard, continuing on her trail into the forest. It became harder to follow there, changing from pavement to a beaten dirt trail. Isra couldn't say she minded though, she rather liked the genuine feel of it; it gave her the opportunity to gather her thoughts.

Her summer had been uneventful, mostly nights spent beside her mother's grave. It was far too exhausting for her to call her up every night, but even just the presence of her bones was comforting. Hours in her aunt's house never passed slowly, always the air inside the apartment was muggy and suffocating. Strangely enough, she longed for the city when she was stuck in the academy, but once she was back in the city, the illusion she had constructed of joy seemed to dissipate and she could only wish she was back at the school. There was something perhaps mildly ironic about the constant cycle of disappointment she put herself through, though it's not as though she could complain. She makes her own bed, and she's learned to lie in it.

She continued her stroll for quite some time, losing track of the minutes then hours. Eventually, she checked her phone. 7:30. Damn. It's be an equally long walk back to her dorm, and by the time she just barely breached the main campus grounds, it was already 8:45. Another fifteen minuted had landed her by her dorm, where her roommate was no longer. She briefly considered taking a quick shower, but decided against it. The leisurely pace of her walk combined with the chilly morning hours meant she hadn't sweat at all, and she was going to be late for breakfast anyways.

Just then, there was a vibration in her back pocket. She pulled it out, frowning slightly, as she wondered just who it was that would be texting her.

From: Danny
Yo, heading to go eat. Come join, fill me in on what you didn't yet do over the summer!

She shared a short laugh with her phone. Of course it would be Danny; he was just the type to text his friends first thing in the morning.

To: Danny
Sounds like a plan. I'm heading to the dining hall now, tell me when you get there.

Isra had never learned to incorporate emotion into texting; it was brusque, short, to the point. Sometimes she wished she could put just the right amount of exclamation points in, or those stupid little faces, but she never could figure out the secret code, so eventually she gave up.

It was a short walk from her dormitory to the dining hall (though it had been delayed slightly by a quick stop at the bulletin board. Special guest? What was that all about?), and when she arrived, she couldn't catch sight of Danny or his sleepy roommate at all. Again, she pulled her phone out of her pocket, this time her heart thudding nervously. It was always difficult to make first contact, even if it was with her best friend (and only her best friend). Pulling in a deep breath, she pulled up their text history anyways, quickly tapping a new message.

To: Morgan
You're probably in the dining hall already, right? I know you. Mind telling me where you're sitting? There are no open tables and I don't want to barge in on some total stranger's conversation. Plus, I totally want to catch up! Texting isn't the same as actually talking.

She pocketed her phone once more, joining the food lines as she waited for a response from either of her friends.
