It was dark and peaceful inside the elven home, night sounds filtered in through a few open windows, the strumming of crickets could be heard in the background with their chirps, the soft hooting of an owl echoed through the leaves of trees, the knocking of the branches of a certain elf’s favorite tree on the window, almost asking if it could come in, the gentle whisper of the wind slipping in through the crack and caressing the dark hair of the little lady comfortably asleep on her bed before it would seem to chuckle and disappear once more. The lighting was only broken by the luminescence of the fireflies that blinked outside, lazily strolling along the air and flickering in and out of existence.
So it was an immediate reaction, if not slow, when that lighting was suddenly disrupted. Nara’s eyes slowly blinked open to see a small icy blue glow before her bed. Her orbs quickly widened as her brain woke up and her functioning sped up. A soft grin impressed itself on her lips as she propped herself up onto her elbows, the sheets slipping down her form a few inches at the new movement. Purple and blue, with the very faint lines of receding orange, stared at the small little orb, and she gave a tiny yawn before groggily poking a finger at it. “Well, aren’t you a beauty.” She purred softly, sleep still clinging onto her as if its poor life depended on it. Black curls bobbed and purple highlights patted against her chest as she shifted into a sitting position, rubbing at her eyes as the sheets fell fully off. She would miss the comfortable feel of them pressed against her skin, but right now, she had something more important to do.
The little orb of light flickered away as she rose from the bed, and Nara frowned just softly, “Hey little guy, where are you going, don’t move….” She whispered softly in a little complaint, afraid to break the silence of night that surrounded her home. Crickets chirped ever so softly in the background, and she blinked sleepily once more. She fumbled around on her desk for awhile before her fingers suddenly traced along a string, and a note played smoothly into the night. It helped her gain her bearings, and allowed her to find what she had been looking for: her little journal and pen. Nara quickly flipped the cover back and leafed through the pages until she met a blank one. She quickly leaned forward, staring at the little creature intently, and her hand running along the untouched paper, writing. Though she could easily see better in the dark, what with being so acclimated to it so often, she still used the light from the little wisp to aid in her momentary quest. She knew what it meant, but the will o’ wisp was such a rare thing, even if it
was the queen’s. She
had to take this chance to catalogue it. It bobbed up and down patiently, and as soon as Nara was done, it quivered with anticipation.
However, Nara was hardly done, and she reread what she had written.
The Will O’ Wisp, as it name suggests, has a thin film of light that follows it wherever it may go. Its actual appearance, however, is more of a pulsating bulb of firmly placed energy, almost like shattered glass on the outer rim, depending on the species. They seem to communicate with different frequencies and speed of light, whether blinking, throbbing, or blinding light. From past speculation and research, it definitely appears that each has its own sort of personality, magic induced or no. It is yet to be discovered whether they blink out of existence when their job has been completed, or if they disappear into the air to rejoin nature. Nara tapped the pen gently against her dim lips, slightly nodding as she decided what she had written was satisfactory for the time being. She turned her eyes back to the little ball, and swiftly moved to her drawers to slip other clothing on, and to pick out some knee-high black stockings with the heels and toes cut off. She quickly slipped these on and seemed to float over to her closet, pulling out a simple yet really beautiful dress that held all of the colors of autumn in them, with a yellow and green splotched leaf pinned to the shoulder area.
She stood in front of the mirror, the Wisp waving back and forth sporadically, trying to gain her attention. “Ah, sorry, I do have to get dressed though.” She grinned at the little light, her eyes scanning over her body in the mirror. She did a slight turn before nodding. It was usually only in Autumn that she gained a sort of vain tinge to her personality at times, but it hardly showed at all during this time, and she only entertained it when she was alone.
With a quick grin, she climbed up on the windowsill and out into the night air via tree branch. The wisp darted out after her, and Nara turned to close the window behind her. The orb of light suddenly darted away into the night, forcing Nara to follow after it rather abruptly.
Moonlight filtered in through the tree leaves, dancing, shifting, splotching the ground in warm slight. The branches were speckled with shadow and light, the two of course were meant to work with each other, one couldn’t have shadow without first light, and light would be harsh and unbearable were it not for the shades. And moonlight was so soft, almost like silk, bathing everything in its soft glow. Nara let a soft sigh press past her lips as she thought, before the wisp was in her face once more. “All right, all right.” She mumbled with a small little pout, quickening her pace from tree to tree.
Eventually, the palace appeared in all its green glory. Queen Sphira definitely loved nature as much as any other elf, but possibly moreso in many aspects. It was certainly a beautiful place, the fact was beyond a doubt. She called down lightly to one of the guards with a soft bird chirp, and he looked up at her passively, waving her through. Nara carefully moved forward, practically barefoot against the bark, before crouching in front of one of the opening to the building. The wisp squeezed through without a problem, and Nara pushed aside some resolute vines and creeped inside. Once her feet settled against floor, she stretched out with a look of accomplishment.
She then padded after the Willow, entering the large room where the queen was waiting. She looked a bit trussed up, and there were two others in the room. Sylzara’s appearance made her somewhat uncomfortable and Nara quickly turned her eyes away from her to focus on Clara. She had dubbed the girl with the nickname ‘Parrot’ awhile ago, for the way she seemed to take in information and relay it back. She waved affectionately to her before turning her attention to the Queen. She made a cheery curtsy, not entirely
having to do it, but more in a teasing way. However, her loyalties and humility had been established long ago, and she respected the Queen with high admiration.
Her attention was raptly captured by her Wisp suddenly flickering out, and she made a large step towards it, her eyes scanning over the light trail that followed its disappearance. However, she could make no conclusive decision as to what happened to it afterwards. With a tiny sigh she turned to the Queen with a serious look. “What’s up?”
