Upon seeing Blacklight--hearing the crackled, synthesized voice over his external speakers and witnessing his methodical and heartless actions--one truly does wonder whether or not this figure before them is wholly man or machine. He personally never says anything to either confirm or deny this. His last biological records even in the Corporate databases have been long lost, or were never existent to begin with. Many, even among the law enforcement, reckon he is a cyborg at least, if not a full android. But one fact is indisputable, he is cold. He is ruthless, uncompassionate, and terrifyingly poignant when he wishes to be. He will kill and move on without second thought. His words are few and highly pitched from his suit, but nevertheless as sharp and as cold as a scalpel lying in the tray of a chill operating room. He looks at people in terms of the threat they pose; those deemed as one are treated immediately and permanently, those not are ignored only for the momentâbut never wholly disregarded.
Like most members of the 102nd, MorzĂ€nâs "armor" is self-contained and capable of withstanding most elements and hazardous conditions, however he has geared his suit to be on the lighter side for greater movement. The armor is for the most part quite expansive in its coverage, adding extra protective plating to areas normally left exposed and extra armor to critical spots of the body, however it still allows for a wide range of movement; crucial for an operative who has to move from location to location. It is resistant to most small-arms fire, however prolonged duration is not advised. His customized tactical helmet completely encases his head and face, with sensors built into the helmet allow him to also see in infra-red and night-vision, crucial should the lights go out. A comm system is build into the face-mask, including a broadcast speaker.
Only once had he had been seen without his gear, but only from the waist up and with his face turned away. By default, his skin has an olive tone to it, hinting that he might be from Europe or from possibly from the Middle East, though people would often mistake him being from Asia due to his unusual outfit of choice. His 150lb "wedged" body frame is gracefully slim and toned, its overall shape comparable to something in between a runner and a soldier. That said, the bodysuit that he is known for is actually the Nightmare Shroud, permanently fused into his spine and shoulders. When retracted, a complex network of black tattoos can be seen winding itself around MorzÀn's body, only leaving his face free, but encroaching even on that. Both arms from the elbow down are made of compartmentalized bionic prosthetics, fused into the bone and muscle of his body.
However, one major fault that he is known for is the utter silence that surrounds him. He hardly speaks, and when he does, it's only through the use of his suit's speakers, making his voice as mechanical and emotionless (to a lesser extent) as the machines he works alongside with.
Equipment
These are the most noticeable weapons and tools that stay in MorzÀn's possession. It should be noted that the Nightmare Shroud is mostly excluded from the list of equipment that the Lieutenant uses in his operations.
One recognizable feature that often differentiates MorzÀn from the other members of the Special Tasks Force is the fact that he will almost always utilizes two identical swords instead of a ranged firearm. Both swords are monomolecular blades that a blend of graphene and ceramic materials forged into the steel that the blades are created from. Each 24" straight blade is single-edged, sharpened to about a dozen atoms wide, with sheaths specifically built to maintain and protect its edge from dulling.
For more "non-lethal" approaches, he also carries a shock-baton strapped to his back. He also has quite a few gadgets built into his prosthetics, such as a tactical map and a multi-tool, as well as whatever tools the mission at hand calls for.
Beliefs/Religion
Spiritual but not religious.
Career/Past Careers
Current Lieutenant of the 102nd Special Tasks Force, Corporate Police Force, North Americana Cell
Likes
Despite working with the Corporate Senate, he does like his job... and the paycheck that comes with his job. That's his main favorable object. With that said, he does like peace and quiet from time to time. He does respect the few meta-humans that have taken up the "occupation" of protecting the innocent, since it does help make his job that much easier.
Dislikes
Aside from the rising levels of crime, one of MorzÀn's pet peeves are the androids that make up the bulk of the police and security forces. He also holds a strong dislike for ranged weapons, viewing them as cowardly weapons, but that's mostly how he was raised.
Good Qualities
He is efficient, careful not to waste excessive resources on targets. Staying calm and collective at all times, MorzÀn can take distractions as what they are and disregard them whenever he's on an operation.
Bad Habits
While he does respect the meta-humans that have fashioned themselves as heroes, he views them as the threats they pose, and will be forced to utilize whatever available resources to stop them. He's strict in his duties, which gives others the impression that he "has a stick up his ass".
Temperament
He will not toy around with his opponents. He is blunt and direct when not actively holding stealth. Efficiency is his only style; he does not care for splatter and fanciful methods of killing when a simple single shot is all that will suffice. He will deal with opponents the simplest and quickest way possible only because he does not intend to waste time, resources, and effort any more than he has to.
However do not mistake him as a sociopath. He derives no pleasure from killing, nor does he relish the action of inflicting pain. He will just as coolly walk past you as he would shoot you in the face. He does not care whether people live or die, he merely deals with "obstacles" as he sees fit. If dealing with said obtrusions requires slaying, then that is what must be done. These obstacles may be anything as serious as a guard shooting at him to something as trivial as merely asserting his standing in a bar; in both instances there will be shots fired and bodies strewn across the floor.
He is as cold and uncaring as the vacuum of space. Neither his own life or death matter to him. When on assignment, only the objectives hold priority. Currently only the Corporate Senate holds his loyalty, and to what extent even that holds those not in the organization can only guess. That is not to say he cannot be crossed, even if he never displays any anger or emotion. Those who have drawn his ire will only see how harsh the cold heart of the void can be.
Talents/skills
Hybrid Martial Arts
MorzÀn is quite skilled in martial arts of several kinds, including Capoeira, Ninjutsu, and Systema, mixing the multiple styles into his own personal style. He considers these as essential training for honing his skills when carrying out orders.
Swordsmanship
Training under several sword schools, MorzĂ€n has merged them into one, settling on somewhat of a freestyle wield. Combined with his personal style in martial arts, it allows him to combat armed opponents, thus his movements are altogether different from a normal swordsmanâs.
Powers
Kinetic-Energy Manipulation
MorzÀn is able to harness the kinetic energies around him, the very energy created from movement itself. Once he harnesses this valuable resource, MorzÀn is able to enhance his speed, transfer the energy to another object or person through direct touch, and molecular acceleration/deceleration is possible. His most common application of his power is known as a kinetic charge, allowing him to ,to the untrained eye, seemingly vanish and reappear at his target almost instantaneously. However, that's not the case, as he's not teleporting, but rather launching himself in a straight line at extremely high speeds.
Blur
On a much lesser scale, it is possible for MorzÀn to become temporarily invisible by manipulating how light interacts with his body, but the drawback is that he can only activate the ability when he isn't being visually observed. By this, he has to first break all possible eye contact, and when he does activate it, those who had kept vision of him still know that he's there. The invisibility field makes a noticeable blur if he moves around too quickly, as well.
Weakness(es)/Faults
The majority of his ability to manipulate kinetic energy requires direct contact. This limitation alone forces his ability to be confined within a specific area... mainly his own personal space. Another limitation to this ability is that if he absorbs or manipulates too much kinetic energy, he can overload himself, thus forcing his body to either fail and literally fall apart, or to black out on him. His techniques require him to get close and personal with his targets, which sets him at a heavy disadvantage until he gets within arm's length. Trained eyes, when observing him while accelerating, can notice faint [directional] lines of neon orange appear in between the point of origin and his destination.
MorzÀn is mute, due to the removal of his tongue as a punishment for speaking out of line before his affiliation with the Corporate Senate. During earlier years of his training, he had made conversation when he shouldn't, and was required to cut out his own tongue for his wrong doing, and felt no regret from the punishment.
The prosthetics that serve as replacements for his damaged or missing limbs are often weaknesses in themselves. While not exactly powered by electricity but rather by electrochemical impulses (the Nightmare Shroud included) from the brain, they can become quite costly to maintain and repair if they take on too much injury to themselves, though MorzÀn has the knowledge to conduct field repairs and fix them when he's unable to get replacements.
BACKGROUND
Every nation, every government, and every organization has its dark practices, and the Corporate Senate was no exception. Clad in a jet-black bodysuit made from several composite materials fused to his body, Blacklight, by far, is one of the more elusive operatives that the Corporate Senate has been known to utilize. Hailing from the Southern Asiatic District, he had been raised and is considered as a perfect weapon, formed after years of training.
The mutations themselves didn't come through the generations, but rather, by genetic experimentation. He wasn't born in the general sense, but created as a weapon of speed and precision. His body is a mix of bionic prosthetics and flesh, flawlessly integrated into each other, he didn't "earn" his shroud and other certain upgrades to his equipment until he had finished his training.
Though the history of how MorzÀn became to be affiliated with the Corporate Senate, it is known that he is the current lieutenant of the 102nd Special Tasks Force, a special forces cell of the North Americana Police Department, designed for counter-terrorism while removed and hidden from the general public. The operatives that are employed within this specialized organization are known for their abilities, and are often considered "off-duty" until called for to handle a situation. When the Department has to make a call for somebody to take on the criminals that are too dangerous to be captured by conventional means...
...This is where he comes in. He is a black light, invisible to the naked eye, but still physically there, ready to strike.
