Description

Josephine Dezantro

Image

Age: 20
Sex: Female
Height: 5’ 8”
Weight: 135 lbs
Voice Example: Josephine

Basic Personality: Josephine Dezantro is proud, confident, stubborn, and somewhat opinionated. However, when one can look past her stubborn and opinionated views, they’ll see a deeply troubled, shy, and insecure young woman who is searching for answers. She can be somewhat childish when she doesn’t get her way, though she is making efforts to overcome that habit. She’s not incredibly trusting. And even when her trust is earned there’s always this one inescapable barrier preventing her from truly expressing herself. Her temper is quick to flare, but even so she operates with a calm, honorable mindset, never letting her emotions run rampant no matter how strongly they may burn within her heart.

Basic Background: Josephine Dezantro was born twenty summers ago to a wealthy family in Triveila. Her parents were the landowners upon whose property numerous farmers and ranchers ran their businesses. As such they were never strapped for money, and Josephine grew up with anything and everything she wanted… Except friends. Despite her loneliness, she grew up relatively happy until she turned 12 and began learning self defense and swordplay. The sword literally changed her life, and not necessarily for the better. Due to a family tragedy when she was 13, Josephine left home forever and began wandering the world searching for purpose and a life worth living. She has become a seasoned wandering warrior and bears numerous scars because of it. Starting very young in this business they were bound to happen, and each tells a story of the life of a girl who still doesn’t know what she wants or needs in life…

So begins...

Aetrius listened as Lolan and Josephine talked about the weather and how they best be on the look out for bad weather that could be heading their way, she kept an eye on that and nodded. She remained looking ahead when she heard Linde speak up, and how she was glad to see her and Kieran getting along, and as she was about to talk she felt Linde kiss the side of her neck that caused her to blush.

Kieran grinned and chuckled looking at Linde, "Ya know, I've never seen her light up like this. Not even with her past relationships." she gave Aetrius is a sly grin and then whistled a casual tune from Saharan, which resulted in Aetrius to give a low growl and slump into the saddle some, yet again.

Linde chuckled for Kieran and nodded silently as Aetrius grumbled and slumped into the saddle. So, to cheer her up, Linde began humming an old Shaharan war march theme she'd heard growing up when learning about the nation and its people. And through some of the pauses, she whispered.

”I'm happy, my love.” And kissed her cheek.

Two days later the group acme to the border between Cre' Est and Veilbrand. They passed a checkpoint easily enough and continued on their way. That evening they pitched camp, but Kyero was on edge the entire evening from sundown until now. As the moon rose high overhead and everyone was beginning to sleep, Kyero was wide awake and scanning the tree line sensing something malevolent in the area.

But was it a person? An animal? Or something else altogether?

Sensing a rise of malevolent intent, Kyero stood up slowly and drew both of his daggers. The moon light overhead shone through the transparent green metal highlighting the solid black core running from the handle to the tip. Kyero's senses tracked a presence through the trees from left to right and back again. He couldn't see or hear anything, but he could sense it.

He felt a low rumbling not in the ground, but the very air itself as he continued to track this presence. And inside Kyero heard a deep, dark voice which he was all too familiar with...

You cannot defeat this presence alone.

Be silent. I don't need your help.

If you do not accept my help, it will kill someone. Perhaps even you.

You won't let your vessel die.

True. And you won't let them die... So what will it be?

If and only if it attacks, I will do whatever I must to stop it. But I refuse to rely on you.

Very well. But if I sense a danger to my vessel, I will help whether you like it or not.

You will try.

The voice in his head went silent, and Kyero's focus tightened. His blades came up defensively, reflecting and directing the moon's light into the tree line trying to illuminate something... But nothing could be seen. Until-

!!!

For the briefest moment, Kyero's eyes caught sight of pitch black fur only illuminated by the subtle flash of light from his dagger. It was large... Very large, whatever it was. Pitch black and stalking so silently even his sharp ears heard nothing. The only thing he could do was sense it. But why? Why could he sense it? No animal had this level of malicious intent that he could literally feel it. So what was...

... No...

Kyero's mind finally caught up with all of the signs as the faintest hint of a red glow emanated from the darkness before disappearing, taking the feeling of this creature with it. Kyero looked at his daggers and saw his hands were shaking. He was actually shaking. Him. The Red-Eyed Demon.

"What was that thing?" He whispered to himself.

Kyero cautiously sheathed his daggers and sat down. Feelings something foreign run down his forehead, he wiped it with a finger and found it to be a drop of sweat. Something Kyero almost never did unless he was overexerting himself. So for him to sweat for this... Kyero looked back to the darkness. Nothing was there, and his senses had relaxed. But still his hand quivered at the thought of whatever that thing was.

"... Is this what it's like to know fear?" He whispered softly to himself.

Meanwhile, his ears picked up something new. He turned his head towards Josephine's tent and heard the faint, slightly muffled whimpers of Josephine in her sleep... She was crying. He could tell. A welling of negative emotions were overtaking her in her dreams. Or, rather, her nightmares.

Kyero dipped his head beneath his hood and closed his eyes, waiting for the morning.

The two days passed by easily and rather quickly, with little to no hassle along the way. But eventually they arrived at their destination, the boarder of Cre' Est. They had set up camp that night, ate dinner, talked around the fire again, and all went to bed at some point. When the morning arose, the sun light of the tents, warming them up and casting it ever bright orange glow everywhere. By this time though, Aetrius was already out of her tent and nowhere to be seen, Kieran slowly awoke from her slumber and looked around, and sensing something was off. She looked to a small hill in the distance, surrounded by trees and saw a figure in the distance, she decided to investigate and slowly made her way there. Eventually she closed in the distance, and saw a red haired woman sitting down, back facing Kieran. Kieran chuckled and walked up, and sat down next to Aetrius, who sat with her knees held to her chest and her chin resting on her knees. They both remained silent as they looked out in the distance, until one of them spoke up softly, "Can I ask you a question...?" her voice came out softly, as if it was almost a whisper.

Aetrius nodded silently, barely moving her head, but Kieran understood her all too well and understood her message. "Why..Why did you come and look for me in Veilbrand? I know it's been a few days now, but since we left you never told me anything...You've remained rather distant...Am I that different to you know? Do you look at me differently because of what I was forced into? I'd understand if you did, but even then..." her voice died down some, as Kieran looked down and couldn't help as tears slowly trickled down her face. Aetrius continued to remained silent for a few moments, not out of anger or resentment, or even disappointment, it was because she was trying to find the words to say, not even the right words, but words to say in general. She sat there for a few more moments in silence, Kieran nodded and slowly began to stand up, taking the silence as a way of telling her to leave Aetrius alone. But as Kieran turned to leave, a soft voice spoke up behind her.

"I'm not mad at you, Kie...I never have been. You're my sister, and my best friend. You're the only family and friend that I have left from my old life. You've always been the one person I could count on to survive. You were always by my side. For years we had each others back. Always looking out for each other, even when I was an outcast among our clan, you always had my back...Even when...Even when I was marked you were the one who believed in me. You left Saharan because you knew I didn't have a place there anymore. You left because of me, and because of me you eventually got sold and wrapped up into something that resulted in me having to go and find you, after who knows what you've been through..." her voice dying down as her long, breathless ramble and mess of words were expelled from her lips. She remained silent as she softly caught her breath, and after a few deep breaths she spoke up again, "I blame myself, Kieran. For what happened to you. It was my fault you got put into that situation. You should hate me by now..I do. I've hated myself for years because of what happened back there. because I couldn't help you..." she said softly and looked down, her own tears finding their way down her face. Kieran slowly walked infront of Aetrius, and crouched down, gently lifting her currently tear stained chin to look at her.

"You are my sister. Just as Saharans, family means everything to us, regardless as to what had happened. Just as you say, you're all that I have as well. We share the same blood, what runs through me, runs through you. I will always be there for you, just as you had always been there for me. Regardless to what happened all those years ago, regardless of what you've become since our departing...There is one thing you will always be to me." she said softly, as she sat down with Aetrius, hands covered by her own soft and smooth hands. Aetrius looked at Kieran with a raised eyebrown, "You will always be my little sister." she said as she wrapped her arms around Aetrius, and gave her a tight hug, resulting in Aetrius to fully break down into a heartbreaking wail as she wrapped her own arms around Kieran tightly, and continued shaking all the while she cried.

For so long did she blame herself for losing Kieran, and for even losing a part of who she was in Kieran. Knowing that she finally had her sister back again, and that Kieran didn't blame her for anything, or hold any resentment towards her, she couldn't help but finally let all of her emotions out, all of the self doubt and hate, sadness and anger, anxiety and stress, all came out as she cried into her sisters arms until she had nothing left to cry out. And so that sat, on that small hill in the distance, as Kieran hummed Aetrius a soft tune their mother used to always sing to them in their times of sadness, one that always helped calm down a sad Aetrius, but this time it only caused her to cry more, and silently they sat there until it was time for them to leave camp.

Linde awoke late and wandered out of the tent in a night gown hanging halfway off her left shoulder nearly showing something from her left breast. Kyero, being the nearest to her, fixed it for her which made her smile sleepily at him and pat his shoulder in a friendly manner.

"MmmmthanksKyero." She slurred as she yawned.

Josephine emerged from her tent just afterwards dressed fully in her armor and prepared for the day whilst also already taking down her tent and folding it up to attach it to her saddle bags.

Kyero was ready to move as well, taking up his place at the middle of the pack with his pack and cloak up as he walked along the path. Josephine was second from the front behind Aetrius who had since pulled Linde up to sit behind her after the latter had woken up and gotten properly dressed. Meanwhile, Lonan was close behind her riding on Hawk.

And together they all took off further into Cre' Est. The junction where Josephine would part ways from them was fast approaching, and Linde had sort of started to like her as a member of the group even if she was largely silent unless asked something first. She'd miss her.

Aetrius and Kieran rejoined with the others down the hill when they heard the others were awake and starting to pack up, they helped prepare everything for their travels and eventual departure with Joesephine. Once they were all ready, Aetrius helped Linde up onto Bree, and Kieran helped Rose onto their horse, unknown to them, once soon they got to Cre' Est, they would be saying goodbye to two people, not just one.

Aetrius had to admit to herself though, even with the one girl's distance and solitude, and unintentionally rude appearing manners, she would miss her somewhat. And perhaps, if she did leave, may Heresta bless her and perhaps she would meet up with them again one day.

Lonán had put away his gear and looked at everyone getting ready to go, as he observed several people that’d most likely separate. Rose to give her what she was promised, and Josephine for her journey to Triveila. For the latter, Lonán would truly miss her if she left. The last two days of conversation made him learn unique skills, and insight about his family he obviously needed.

So he decided to fill his curiosity and have at least one last chat, if he failed to convince her to stay, He failed. He hoped to see her again regardless. He approached her and took a breath. ”Morning Miss Dezantro.” He greeted, feeling slightly confident as the past two days taught him to calm his nervous heart around her. He took another breath.

”I wanted to ask you, if it’s not a bother, why must you get to Triveila within a fortnight?” He finally asked, if he knew that, he’d probably find a way to convince her to travel with them for awhile longer, maybe even travel with her to aid her on said business.

Josephine looked back to Lonan, giving him a morning greeting in return. And as he asked why she felt she must reach Triveila within the fortnight, she looked ahead and sighed softly.

”I have... Business... Back home.” She said softly.

”I would prefer to leave it at that, Sir Arzura... Why did you wish to know, if I may return a question?”

Lonán sighed, figuring the question would get turned around. ”I’m not going to lie Miss Dezantro. Unless you know the best route, I’m afraid within a fortnight is almost hard to do.” He said. ”When I remember working at a trade caravan hearing of some roads that couriers often take, if by themselves on horseback, that could potentially cut that time in half.”

He recalled this from his two year experience working at a trade caravan that was his best paid job yet. ”Actually, if I remember right, one of my previous employers operates one of the stops of the trade caravan I provided escort for in the Capital of Cre’est. If there’s anyone to ask it’s Him.” Lonán explained, ”What I’m suggesting is, if it’s that important, we can try to visit my old Employer and see if he can help point out a faster route, that’ll give you time also to at least take a breather from traveling on the road, see some civilization for a day or two, and if it works out, it works out. If it doesn’t.. Ye have the right to yell me ear off.” the last sentence he actually recalled his Grandfather saying it to both his grandmother and mother. Usually when he was trying to experiment with a new look for a new sword, or a shield concept. When he worked with him to make his crossbow, he recalled the Old Wolf saying;

”If this doesn’t work, Yer mother has the right to yell my ear off if you shoot your eye out.” Lonán Mentally chuckled at the memory. He made the shot, but scared up hornets. For this, Mother didn’t yell at him. She sent Venom the Fourth on The Old Wolf’s poor self.

Josephine listened to Lonan's response, and as she gazed at the road ahead her eyes narrowed as she let out a soft sigh through her nose.

”You said 'if I knew the best route'... It seems that I do.” She said, more to herself than Lonan though it was still loud enough for him to hear.

She turned her head to look back at him.

”Following the main roads, it's almost impossible to reach Triveila in a fortnight. However, when you travel straight as the crow flies you can cross Cre' Est in just under twelve days. That's how I reached Veilbrand the first time long before meeting you all on my return. Cutting straight through Cre' Est from Triveila on Old Rey here,” she said, patting her horse's neck. ”And I know I can do so again.” She said with confidence, giving her horse a smile.

”I do appreciate you being mindful of my desire to return swiftly, Sir Arzura, and trying to accommodate me. It was quite noble of you. But time is something I can ill afford."

She looked back to Lonan.

"Besides, safety off the main roads is not a huge concern in Cre' Est like it is in Veilbrand. The occasional bandit group is nothing I cannot handle, and they're few and far between these days thanks to Cre' Est's new King and his policies on the economy and taxes. People live lives of plenty in this land now, so bandits and degenerates are on the decline.”

She looked ahead.

"Come the next fork in this road the right side leads to the capital, the left to Triveila. I shall take the left and ride as the crow flies to my destination.”

She looked back to Lonan and offered a small smile.

”You have all been wonderful company, but I'm afraid my business cannot wait. But I shall wait to say good-bye until we reach that fork come this evening.”

And with that she returned her gaze forward to continue her ever watchful vigil on the horizon line for any signs of danger.

Aetrius remained looking forward, but her ears and eyes were open and aware of her surroundings. She listened in on Lolan's and Josephine's conversation and chuckled at his attempts at keeping her around, but to obvious no avail. His attempts were good, but not good enough for her apparently. She gently pushed her heels into Bree's sides and mushed her between Lolan and Josephine and waited until they had finished speak, "After noon, Miss Dezantro. I'm sorry for my behavior these passed few days. I just...I don't take well to new people, for obvious reasons. Hell, I shouldn't even have been with this group for very long, nor even at all. I was a wanderer, much like yourself. Lived alone, all the like. I think we have a common mind set, in that area mind you. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm sorry for not being as nice or welcoming as I should have, it's my apologies." she said as she gave Josephine the Saharan Salute, and small bow.

”Hmm... You seem a kind soul, miss Aetrius. My thanks to you.”

Aetrius smiled at her words and nodded, "It's nothing, honestly. If I were to be honest, I'm more than certain that I treated this lot far more worse than you have." she gave a genuine chuckle. It was true, she did. Her first impression back then was to get the job done, then leave. It was only when they assisted her to Veilbrand that she decided to stay with them longer, and Aetrius explained that to her, not why, but that they only stuck around to get what she needed done. She remained silent after a few moments and then spoke up, "Said you were from Triveila, yes? May I ask what it's like? I've never been there, even with all of my travels." she asked, genuinely curious for what other lands were like, as far as she did travel, there were few and far places that she hadn't gone, and these were some of which she'd never been to.

Josephine's eyes started to light up a bit as Aetrius mentioned her homeland.

"It's a beautiful, lush paradise for me. But then, I grew up there, so I suppose I'm a little biased." She said with a soft smile gracing her lips.

"The closer you go to the Westward coast the more marshy it becomes. Dense mud plains and thick rivers halfway up the tree trunks are all you get. But as you go Northward it becomes firmer, flatter, and greener. Grasslands. Lush forests along the Northwest coast. And along the Northern coast is almost pure beautiful white sand beaches and the finest fishing grounds you could ever hope to enjoy." She said, closing her eyes.

"I miss my homeland dearly... It's one of the reasons why I cannot delay my return. My business being the other." She said, opening her eyes.

Aetrius listened as she explained what her homeland was like and smiled, it sounded much different than what her own was like. While Saharan was dessert everywhere you look, Triveila was the very opposite, and sounded like something to see. Aetrius turned to look at Josephine as she spoke, "I'd have to venture there at some point, it sounds like a sight to see. Saharan is the exact opposite. Coarse, dry, and sand everywhere. Sand dunes, sand storms, and just regular sand...If the terrain and weather doesn't turn you away, then the just as coarse people probably would." she gave another genuine chuckle. She looked back ahead of them, and then back at the newest member, but back at the trail yet again, "How long have you been traveling, if I may ask? I myself have been on the road for.. six years now, I believe." she said with a rather sad tone, as her mind went back to her days in Saharan, and knowing she couldn't go back there anytime soon, at least not alone.

Josephine seemed somewhat surprised by what Aetrius had said about being on the road for six years, but she quickly adopted a soft smile and looked forward again.

"Seems we're kindred spirits in that respect. I have been alone now for seven years, and spent the majority of them traveling as well as practicing and furthering my studies of my art."

She glanced back to Aetrius.

"What have you been up to during your years of travel, miss Aetrius?"

Aetrius listened as Josephine explained that she too was on her own for years, for almost the exact same reasons as her own. But she felt her face turn a light shade of pink at the question of what had brought her out onto her journey of six years. She paused, and thought for a long while, she could lie, but that would be obvious to her and could possibly ruin her plan, or she could be honest and see if Josephine was honestly worth keeping around or not.

"Hm...Too many things..." she started, with a soft voice as things started to come back to her mind as she reminisced on her past years. "Well, I first left home with my sister, Kieran, many years ago...Bit of a long and personal story, sure you can relate there. After that, we were separated and for four years I searched for her, while doing so I picked up...various jobs you could say, and then I eventually came to a small town of Atlum a month ago, and while there I ran into this lot....And they decided to join me on my adventure to look for my sister, which evident-ally we have. And then, well, we wound up running into you. Many thanks, Miss Dezantro."

She said as she gave the woman in question another nod and a small smile as she turned back to the road ahead of them. If Josephine was keen on learning more, she'd further question her, if not the conversation would end there, and Aetrius knew that, therefore she left the majority of the information left to be desired, if it was so.

Josephine nodded slowly as Aetrius explained her circumstances and looked up the road the entire time.

"I see... Kindred spirits indeed." She whispered.

She looked back towards Aetrius.

"It sounds like you've lived through quite the combination of life-altering events and circumstances. I commend you for staying strong and persevering as you did. It's not the easiest thing to do..." She said softly as her voice trailed off.

She subtly shook her head.

"Regardless, there must be something holding you to this group. Perhaps your relationship with miss Almna, here?" She asked innocently.

Linde, holding calmly to Aetrius' stomach, blushed slightly and smiled.

Aetrius listened as Josephine commented on what she was told, and even commended her for sticking through all of her events and life changes, she silently nodded as the prior continued talking, and when the question of what was holding her to the group arose, she paused yet again. She never thought she had to speak of her relationship, not like this exactly. After a moment Aetrius cleared her throat, "Thank you for the kind words, Miss Dezantro. Things have been, interesting. Only way to truly talk about them and listen is over a few hard drinks, if I am to be honest. Plenty of adventures of tell, like how I got the scar on my face." she gave a chuckle and then a sigh, and looked back up as a shot of phantom pain went through her face, where the scar resided on her face, even speaking of it could bring back how it felt when she received said scar.

She looked back up and spoke with a sincere tone as she kept her eyes on the way ahead of them and gently held one of Linde's hands with her right hand as her left held the reins, "If I were to be honest, Miss Dezantro. I was all alone until I came to Atlum a month ago. I had my fair share of...relationships to say. But...Something about this one..It's something else. Aside from Linde here, this group is made of good people, trust worthy people...People I, people I would easily lay my life down for." she said softly as she gave Linde's hand a gentle squeeze, then looked back up at Josephine.

"I don't think that anyone would have ever expected such an at times heartless, brutal and rather renknown Bounty Hunter such as me to ever have such a change of heart. I know I wouldn't have. Only because I stayed when I was injured back in Atlum did any of this happen."

Josephine listened intently to Aetrius' response, especially about how it was only because she stayed when injured in Atlum that she was here with everyone now.

"Is that right?..." She trailed off.

"So you stayed with this group, and you found something more."

A very subtle smile appeared on her face as she looked to Aetrius and Linde.

"I am... I'm happy... For both of you." She said shyly, the faintest blush appearing on her face as she looked back to the road to hide it from them.

"But I... I shouldn't stay... I can't." She whispered to herself.

Her mind was racing with conflicting emotions and thoughts. Should she stay? Why? Why should she? Why would she? She had no reason to stay with this group. They were good people. That was for sure. And she was starting to enjoy their company, true. But her business would not wait. And her desire to see it through was burning like a bright and undying flame within her heart.

"I wish you two the very best, miss Aetrius. Miss Almna." She said at last.

And that was the last she spoke for the afternoon as they approached the fork in the road, now just a couple hours away.

Lonán’s confidence shook ever so slightly at how Josephine politely declined, but when he saw her smile he returned it with a small, warm one of his own before he watched Aetrius begin to talk to her to maybe sway her. However, something she said began to bother him. Whilst she was flattered at the assistance it wasn’t about getting there sooner, it was to get there at the appointed time.

Time I can Ill afford. Time, the word hit his mind like a hammer more loudly then the recent pounding of his heart. Balder couldn’t pay his debt in time to ensure his Honor wasn’t besmirched. And because of that it costed Lonán many things. He couldn’t get to Clarissa in Time and look what has happened to him. ”Time ruined me in many ways. Heresta’s blade I hate time!” He thought bitterly before then it hit him like a free running caravan wagon. ”Time I can ill afford. Time I can’t afford. She, like my father, has got something that must be done within the Fortnight that has to be done! Hence the Crow Flies route!”

He took a deep sigh through his nose, afraid people would hate what he would say as he rode up to ride alongside them. ”I know I’ve offered my assistance before Miss Dezantro, but, I wish for Aetrius and Linde to hear this too. Besides the obvious business of helping Rose getting a new life, is there any business in the Capital that cannot Wait?” He asked, tentatively, as if nervous about what he was asking, ”If so then I won’t ask what popped in my mind again. If there is not, then can we at least make the journey to where Miss Dezantro’s going a little easier by going with her to Triveila? If it’s an issue of supplies running low, one of us (I will volunteer if you wish as penance for interrupting your conversation Aetrius), can go for a supply run to the capital..what say you Aetrius? Linde?”

He turned a bit to hide his face as he realized all of a sudden his cheeks began to feel warm and hid his Now quaking arm. ”Not another anxiety panic! Not now!”
