Xue has a confident air about her, from her posture to her body type. She stands tall and lithe and while not entirely shapely, Xue looks the part of dignified adult that she tries to capture. Despite being taller than most, she has a fragile look to her as though she could break with the slightest bit of force. Xue uses this to her advantage, allowing people to underestimate her. Her features are soft, though not entirely childish and sheās careful not to openly wear her emotions so Xue tends to appear calculating and somewhat hostile despite her gentle nature. Xueās hair is rather long, and she very rarely wears it down in any way. More often than not sheāll have it tied into a tight bun high on her head to keep it out of the way. Ideally she would simply cut it all off, but she adores her long hair and so she allows herself the luxury of keeping it that way.
Xue prefers soft fabrics and loose fitting robes that allow for quick, easy movement. She dislikes ornaments and anything free-hanging from her clothing due to their ability to trip her up or get in the way, so she rarely decorate herself any more than necessary. Her clothing is never very showy when it comes to colors and since Xue doesnāt identify herself with any one nation, she doesnāt restrict herself to certain color schemes; sheāll usually just wear whatever she has available as long as it allows easy movement.

- ā¦ Strategy || Xue spent more than enough time around military strategists to know how to calculate small or large scale attacks rather well. She often practices honing this skill playing Pai Sho and creating situations in her head and walking through the best way of dealing with them- Xueās form of ādaydreamingā
ā¦ Health || Xue has superb knowledge of the human body due to her training in the art of chi-blocking. Because of that knowledge, she knows a lot about how to recognize and treat certain things, especially if it has to do with the muscular system or certain spiritual ailments.
ā¦ Close-combat || Despite the disadvantage of being a non-bender, Xue can definitely hold her own in a fight. Sheās not powerful in the sense of muscular strength, but she knows how to use another personās body against them, she knows the right places to strike, and she knows when to attack and when to wait and watch. Sheās also very agile and light on her feet. Unfortunately, Xue has very basic knowledge of weaponry and relies solely on her chi-blocking in a fight.

- ā Zoning out || As mentioned earlier, Xue likes to strategize. A lot. Sheāll often think up situations and ways of escaping them or do worst-case scenarios of current situations and completely āgo inside herselfā. When this happens, sheāll usually have a far off look in her eyes and begin muttering to herself. Itās best to leave her be, but if someone really needs her attention, tapping something near her hands or her ears will bring her back. She shouldnāt be touched or waved at because when sheās zoned-out like that sheās usually in full defensive mode and may attack.
ā āExperimentingā || Xue doesnāt know everything there is about chi-blocking and the human body, so if sheās curious about āwhat would happen ifā¦ā sheāll probably call someone over and try it on them without explaining herself.
ā Cooing || When sheās happy or content, Xue will occasionally make soft cooing noises, sheāll also do this if sheās helping or comforting someone in distress because her mother used to do that to her when she was a child to calm her down when she was upset and she associates the sound with that.

- ā„ Music || Xue loves any form of music, it calms her.
ā„ Social people || While not very social herself, Xue likes to listen to people and be around people who are.

- ā Being touched || This is a major no no for Xue. She canāt stand being touched in any way. She sees it as a threatening gesture due to being surrounded by chi-blockers for a large chunk of her life.

ā Mental instability || Xueās mental state is quite shaky due to the things that she has had to do in the past while working with the chi-blockers. This conflicts greatly with her need to be in complete control and she gets easily frustrated with herself when anything feels even remotely āoffā upstairs.

āŖ Level-headed || She prides herself on being calm under pressure, Xue knows that recklessness can be devastating in some situations and works hard to keep a level head for the sake of herself and those around her.
āŖ Caring || Whe Xue is close to someone, sheās caring to the point of overly-protectiveness and tends to baby all of her friends, playing the mother of the group.

- ā Her Reputation || Already, Xue has earned the title of turncloak. She turned her back on the chi-blocking terrorist groups to join the opposing sides and has gotten a lot of criticism for that. By now sheās used to the distrust and suspicion aimed towards her and accepts it though it hurts more than a little.
ā Cocky || Xue is very overconfident. She tends to consider herself above others and relies a lot on her abilities. Itās not entirely uncommon for her to overestimate her ability to do something.
ā Distrusting/Paranoid || Xue has a very hard time trusting anyone or anything else due to her extreme paranoia and her inability to read others.
ā Dense || Sheās very bad at reading the emotions of other people when it comes to personal things. She can read body language, but she canāt read faces well and will occasionally hurt someoneās feelings without realizing it.

Xueās personality is rather complex and multi-faceted. First impressions with her vary greatly and once you gain her trust youāll find a very different girl than you might expect.
For one thing, Xue is very flexible. She can bend her personality to fit whatever needs the situation requires and makes a very believable actress in that aspect. Because of her calculating nature, Xue is able to look at a person or situation and figure out what facade would put the situation in her favor. This part of her personality is a major factor in making people suspicious of her as itās difficult to tell which side of Xue is true.
Xue can come off as distant at first glance. She prefers staying in the background and watching, rarely giving her input unless the situation calls for it. This distant appearance is also caused by her mental state. Sheās not āclinically insaneā but Xue is extremely paranoid and OCD. Her paranoia tends to cause her to put lots of space between her and others until she is absolutely sure they can be trusted.
Those who find the true side of Xue, those who gain her trust and companionship, will find that she is a kindhearted individual. Sheās extremely motherly when it comes to those she cares about and she loves to dote on her friends and their needs.

Xue was born to Lok and Lixue An in a small, remote village that was considered Earth Kingdom but was home to no benders of any type. They named her Li Mei, pretty rose, after her lovely hair color.
Her father, Lok, had a sister who was once a performer who was killed by a firebending stunt and he held a grudge against benders since. When Xue- Li Mei at the time -was 12, a small group of āRevolutionariesā came through the town recruiting members to a group that āwould change the world forever by ridding it of bendersā. The initial reception of the group was sour, but slowly people began asking questions and packing their things to leave with the revolutionaries. Lixue was hesitant, but Lok was persistence and soon enough the three brought together their meagre belongings and left with the group. Their destination was a series of natural tunnels in the mountains miles away from civilization where a moderately sized group of underground chi-blocking terrorists were gathering their strength.
Able-bodied individuals ages 5 and up, male or female, were required to attend mandatory chi-blocking classes. Li Mei excelled at these classes and quickly rose in ranks. By the time she was 15 she was already being sent with small groups to unremarkable villages to purge them of benders. She learned to numb her emotions and do whatever it took to get the job done and had no qualms when it came to immoral act like torture to get information on hidden benders. By the age of 17 she was assisting in the planning of those purges with a group of elite āgeneralsā. It wasnāt until she was 20 that she realized the error of her ways. She had been working undercover, scoping out the Fire Nation town that they were to hit next to find potential issues they may come across. She was just about to leave when a young girl ran up to her all smiles and joy and created a rose out of flame. Li Mei was disgusted by the bending at first but the girl said, āsee how beautiful the fire is? Fire can hurt but fire is life. This rose is alive even if itās made of fire, see how it moves? And itās beautiful, just like your hair.ā The child then giggled and ran off.
A whole new side of bending was revealed to Li Mei and after that day the act of purging didnāt bring any satisfaction and she was left with a bitter taste in her mouth.
Her technique quickly began to suffer and she was beaten and reprimanded with every mistake until she couldnāt take it anymore and disappeared in the night.
Li Mei changed her name to Xue after her mother and ridded herself of all of her belongings to make it more difficult to track her and set off in search of the new Avatar with nearly nothing to her name.
