Mancer Type: Aeromancer
Title: The Breaker
Nickname(s)/Alias(es): Mei-mei
Age: 20
Face Claim: Ayato
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 122 lbs.
Build: Average, tends toward the lean/tall side.
Hair Color: Dark red.
Eye Color: Amber
Scars/Tattoos/Piercings: No tattoos or piercings, but numerous small scars (burns, nicks, etc.) from the “hands-on” nature of his clan’s scientific teachings. The only real scar of note is on his left cheek – it is a short laceration scar from when a glass vial blew up in his face. He narrowly avoided becoming blind that day, thanks to no small amount of good fortune, and talented aquamancers.
Description: to be added
Preferred Clothing: Whatever, really – so long as he isn’t buck naked, he doesn’t mind what he’s wearing. This is mainly due to his early years being filled with, put simply, lots and lots of mess. Dedicating one’s life to research usually leaves little room for fashion, at least in most Kaska clan members’ cases. He does have a tendency to cover his arms and legs as much as possible, though. It’s a habit developed early on to give himself a layer of protection in case something spills or explodes on him.
Equipment: Nothing special or unique, just a couple of pens and a small notebook to doodle in and record data.
Skills/Mancer Abilities: Wind wall – Creates a spherical barrier made of high velocity wind and whatever else might be picked up by the wind (small rocks, earth, debris, etc.). Capable of repelling physical force to a certain degree, as well as certain elements. Can also be used for imprisoning/capturing, but is weaker when the user is not within the barrier. Air cannon I – Concentrated blasts of air that can be shot with pinpoint accuracy at extremely high speeds. Radius of actual blast is very small (up to baseball sized at most), but impact can be bone-shattering. Air cannon II – Far less powerful than the smaller version, but with a much wider radius. Most often used as a supportive ability (boosting the speed of an individual/projectile, clearing pathways, etc.). Particle dissociation – A creative use of aeromancer abilities that involves the separation of different types of air particles in order to catalyze elemental reactions. Useless on its own, but can increase the effect of other types of Mancer abilities several times over (i.e. volatile gas isolation + pyromancer fireballs; hydrogen gas isolation + aquamancer freezing). Godspeed – Boosts Mei’s own speed/force by backing his attacks in close combat with blasts of wind. Can also be used to lessen muscle strain during regular exertion.
Strengths: Mei’s Godspeed technique allows him to sustain close combat longer than most, and it also makes him faster/more forceful than average. Smarts – Being from a family of scholars, Mei grew up learning subjects such as inertia and anatomy on a daily basis. He is able to combine these smarts with his natural Mancer abilities to create clever techniques.
Weaknesses: Ranged combat – As the sort of person who is used to doing things up close and personal (whether in fighting or in day-to-day activities), Mei’s weakness is ranged combat. If forced to go toe to toe with another Mancer from a distance, he’ll very likely lose. He can’t aim his air cannon well from even average distances, and his wind wall becomes less effective the larger it is. It also goes without saying that he can’t use his strength, close combat, from a distance. Hates not being in control – Mei hates it when a situation turns against him. If he isn’t in control, he’ll grow increasingly frustrated and rash. This holds true whether the situation is in battle or in everyday life. In this regard, he’s kind of bratty.
Oddities: He loooooooves science. He haaaaates having to clean up a mess he didn’t directly or indirectly create, whether physical or interpersonal relationship-wise. Has about zero percent sense of responsibility for many things.
Likes: Fascinated by life. As in, he is probably most genuinely excited when he’s neck deep in a pile of cats and trying to find out how exactly their built-in “falling mechanism” works, for example.
Dislikes: Dislikes: Situations where he can’t hypothesize what will happen next. Aside from that, he's pretty chill with most things he isn't actively afraid of.
Hobbies: SCIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENCE BITCHES. That aside, he enjoys gazing at clouds and picking out weird shapes. It’s even better when night falls, and he can do some weird mental connect the dots business with the stars.
Phobia(s): Claustrophobic. No reason why, just claustrophobic. Also, he’s mildly afraid of heights and a little more than mildly afraid of fire. Despite being occasionally required to experiment using fire and/or work/train with pyromancers, he could never completely quell his pyrophobia.
Sexuality: Very, very nonchalant. If someone flirts with him, he’ll toss an easy smile and flirt right back, whether they’re male or female. That aside, he has no actual romantic experience, and similarly to other matters of the heart, he seems to be uncaring about “serious” romance. However, whether that is a genuine lack of emotion or merely his inexperience showing is yet to be seen.
Personality: Mei’s natural personality is cheerful and dedicated to what he likes (specifically likes, not loves – the scholarly Kaska clan frowns upon ‘love’) to a fault. He can spend hours into the night with a candle and an old tome, reading in one or both of the two languages he can read – the common language of the modern world, and the old tongue of ancient peoples. That isn’t an ability specific to him, though, in the Kaska clan, it is practically required to be able to take part in adult matters. He can care for himself and other living things quite well, but he could just as easily discard things that bore him. Growing up in a clan that as a whole, struggles with close bonds and intimacy, he has an innate coldness, as some would call it, that disables him from truly ‘feeling’ for others. Despite this, he is a friendly sort, and lives his life one day at a time. That is not to say he doesn’t have plans for the future, but any dreams he has are blurry and just that – dreams. He has outwardly shown no desire to make them reality, choosing instead to lie back and watch the clouds drift by, pointing at the one shaped like a bunny and giving his calm smile to those around him.
Family Status: to be added
Personal History: His family is bunch of mad scientists, really. They sought knowledge for the sake of knowing, rather than for helping people. Like many children in his clan, he is not very emotionally attached to his parents, viewing their relationship as more of a student-teacher one rather than as a familial bond. This has been the norm in the Kaska clan for generations – as a result, the vast majority of the clan struggles with intimacy and forming deep bonds. Marriage is treated somewhat informally, with most ‘marriages’ being either between close friends (for the sake of marriage benefits or to escape an arranged marriage) or arranged by authority figures in the interest of forwarding exploration or creating the next generation. Emotional intimacy is something of an elephant in the room; it is viewed as awkward and generally not mentioned. The similarity between romantic and platonic bonds is a difficult subject for many in the clan – generally platonic bonds and subsequently teamwork are considered a good thing, while romantic relationships are felt as more of a potential downfall. This view of love and romance has kept the clan’s population low, so new children are always celebrated and generally taught and raised by the entire clan.
That was the environment Mei grew up in. That aside, daily schooling was mandatory, and exploration of the natural world was highly encouraged. This led to Mei often running off into the forests surrounding Caelfall, whether to sneak out of lessons or to do his own kind of research. Whether that was frowned upon by his teachers, Mei still doesn’t actually know, but as it turned out, he ended up making friends with several other kids from outside of his clan.
He started formal mancer training outside of his clan at twelve years old; one year younger than most of the kids in his clan – mainly because the adults were becoming worried that he would accidentally hurt himself or others with the budding power that was becoming more and more apparent. Mei’s master was impressed with the youngster’s control over and creative use of his aeromancer abilities, but like many of his peers and teachers, was not impressed by his confident, bordering on arrogant attitude. The irritation everyone had with the young aeromancer culminated in his older peers ganging up to give him a good, old fashioned beating – and the teachers looked the other way. This was probably around the time Mei realized how much he absolutely hated not being in control – he wasn’t stupid, though, and he’d also realized his unknowingly flaunted skill was actually hurtful to other people. Mei spent the remainder of the year (after healing from several internal injuries resulting from the beating) seeking out his teachers and classmates and attempting to reconcile. Whether this was genuine empathy or for his own sake, Mei himself probably doesn’t know. After all, he’d learned through his research that life is very, very complex indeed.
