Within Selk City, the people were bustling with excitement. Noises of all sorts filled the air, drowning out the silence of the early morning. Stationed in the center plaza stood a rather pampered individual. Dressed in some of the finest clothing money could buy, he glanced out into the gathering crowd with little interest. Such worthless followers he had. A number of thoughts ran through his mind while the crowd grew in number. How he wanted to change his life for the better. Maybe he'd make himself a king. Duke was such a low class title nowadays. There were dozens of them scattered around, each more foolish then the last. "Attention!" He bellowed, calming the hoard before him. "Attention my subjects! I have a very important announcement! As you all know, the solar egg has finally landed!" He paused for a moment, allowing his subjects to applaud and cheer. "However!" Another pause hushed his on lookers. "However.. The whereabouts of its location are unknown. Which is why I am proposing a challenge! Whoever can find the solar egg, and bring it to me will be rewarded handsomely!" A second round of applause erupted, bringing a greedy smile to the Duke's face. It was all too easy. Make them do all the hard work, while he sits back and waits for his prize. Of course he'd reward whoever found the egg. He wouldn't need his position once his wish was granted. "Now hurry! Rumor has it the Dragons have already started their search! Beat those vermin to it!"
(Just an Fyi. The Duke isn't a main villain. He's just a greedy moron looking for a quick score. There's gonna be a few of them, and if anyone wants to create their own greedy NPC with little intelligence, be my guest. Just remember that the NPC will be in the story for a short while, and is not a main bad guy. So don't overdue things.)

She scowled as he continued not liking what he had to say one bit, and by the end of his speech she was scowling fiercely. She turned on her heel and began walking away the wind flapping the back of her brown cloak. When the wind caught the cloak you could a hint of sword hilts beneath it and a figure clad in leathers. Mira stalked through the city heading for the North gate wanting to get away from there as soon as possible. The guards allowed her to leave with barely a glance and no doubt they were expecting more to leave the city after the duke's announcement. In fact there was likely to be droves of people scouring the land all searching for the prize.
As she stalked through the green fields outside the city she felt the presence of Rathan nearby and moments later he landed in the grass ahead of her, his claws raking the dirt beneath him. Steam came from his nostrils as he breathed and his wings arched as though stretching before settling themselves on either side of his body. He regarded her approach with one dark eye and if a dragon could look wary this one certainly did. Mira and Rathan had been together a long time and he knew enough of her moods to recognise the foul one she was in then.
Trouble? His mind voice was deep and rumbling.
When isn't there? Mira snapped.
She pulled herself into the saddle on his back and with huge beats of his wings Rathan bore them skyward, as they climbed Mira began to calm. Being above the land always seemed to have that effect on her. Once she was calmer she told Rathan about the dukes announcement and Rathan snorted.
So much for this being easy. He sighed.

Ori'kumarok was one such creature.
He walked across the forest floor, the dappled sunlight only affording him better camouflage as he prowled. He could sense the minds of another dragon and it's rider, high above him, but even as he peeked his head up through the canopy he felt a tug at his mind as his curiosity overcame his instinct to stay hidden. He crawled up into the topmost reaches of the trees as best he could and flared his wings, pausing only for a moment before pushing away and climbing swiftly towards the two above him.
Although he wasn't keen on talking to humankind, Oriko was one to keep in contact with those of his own species if he could. As he rose up from beneath the much larger, red dragon, He bugled softly in greeting.
Hail, Skyflyer!

'Vermin! Excuse me!?' the large black dragon crouching on top of a few tall buildings near the man reared his head after the man finished speaking.
'Pay him no mind Alatheus. you know just from those words that he's not worth it.' replied the man riding riding on the back of the dragon. With the sun shining right behind him, he surely would have presented quite the impressive figure, were he able to be seen. The last time Drogyn and Alatheus were apart, bad things happened, so they had decided to stick together when they went into town. Only doing so because they had heard that an announcement concerning Saturn was being made. However, though the people of Dergon, humans and dragons alike, generally had good opinions of the pair, a dragon walking right into a human town would create some problems. So Drogyn used his magic to conceal the two of them from sight, though they wouldn't have even bothered had they known what the announcement was really going to be like.
'Yeah yeah, sure, but it still PISSES ME OFF!' Alatheus barely managed to restrain a massive roar of indignant anger. Though he let one out in his mind, causing Drogyn to groan as he massaged his now pounding head.
Drogyn sighed at the rampant enthusiasm his brother showed. 'You're giving me a migraine.' he had been thinking it over, and it didn't make sense to make such a large declaration. After all, not only are you drawing attention to yourself by publicly declaring that you're trying to become the most powerful man in the world, but you're trying to bribe people who are also being given that chance now that you've sent them out. It made so much more sense to simply send out a group of loyal people in secret to search for the egg. What was the royal doing? Was he just stupid? 'No, I can't afford to underestimate this man, not when I don't know what he's capable of, hmm...'
'Maybe you're just overthinking it, maybe he's just an idiot. He sounds like one!' Alatheus thought with a snort, which drew the attention of some people on the ground. Looking over at Drogyn, Alatheus was about to ask if they should go now. He froze when he saw his brother. His skin pale as a sheet, breathing raggedly and covered in sweat. Alatheus didn't hesitate to ask at that point, he launched himself into the air as quickly and quietly as he could, of course, he was a dragon though, so he ended up breaking parts of the roof and making a lot of noise. Soon a small crowd gathered around to see what happened, but other than a sudden appearing and disappearing strong wind, there appeared to be nothing there. 'You stupid idiot' Alatheus roared out loud as he leveled out far above the city, heading out of it. 'Why didn't you say something sooner, you know what using magic does to you don't you? So why didn't you wait to talk until after we didn't need to be invisible anymore?! I swear, you're so stupid, you could've died idiot!' during this long tirade about Drogyn's stupidity, he slowly recovered after releasing the magic he'd casted.
'Well actually, I was going to have you try and read his mind, to see if you could find something about his plans, but you know, whatever. It's not like he just became a dangerous person we have to watch out for! We need to know what he's planning, and we can't just interrogate him. Having another royal family hate our guts might be a bit annoying, don't you think?' Drogyn may have sounded angry, but he was really just frustrated with himself for having been so weak.
'Oh...well, you know I'm not really that good at mind stuff like that. Though I could have given it a try, but I don't think it would've worked.' Alatheus said in a matter-of-fact tone. All anger instantly gone from his 'voice'. 'But the last time we made a royal family mad at us was pretty fun don't you think? Oh, remember when- oh, uh, nevermind, that's a story for another time. Right now I think I should say that we might have trouble. Alatheus finished worriedly. Drogyn turned to him with a questioning look on his face. He had been looking down, trying to see where the duke had went, though he wasn't having much luck. With how quickly the man had disappeared, it seemed like he might not have been an idiot after all. When he heard his brother suddenly sound serious though, he gave him all his attention.
'What is it?' quick and to the point, if something was happening, he wanted to get there now, and so he started to look around, hoping to see the problem before Alatheus would have to tell him about it. Feeling a nudging in his mind, he turned his head in a certain direction, and looked a bit downwards. Then he saw a green dragon starting to crawl out of a nearby forest and fly towards a large red dragon with a rider. Drogyn's eyes narrowed. He may not have known the entire situation, but it was better to be safe than sorry. Alatheus understood his brother's thoughts and wheeled around to start towards the other dragons. If the green dragon was an attacker, they'd make sure he got a bit more than he bargained for.

It was then that she noticed another dragon approaching from the direction of the city and this one bore a rider, the large black dragon flew towards them its wings carrying it effortlessly through the sky. Mira was pretty sure that Rathan could deal with the smaller green dragon without too much trouble but this black dragon was of a size with Rathan. And the two dragons together against Rathan would cause a problem, Mira tensed further not liking the odds at all. She wondered if they like her were searching for the egg and had decided to eliminate some competition. Well they would not go down easily, deciding she could not sit idly by, Mira drew her bow and held it steadily aimed at the black dragon approaching. She was just deciding whether or not to shoot when she felt reassurance from Rathan almost like a caress but in her mind.
"Easy Mira Rathan rumbled. "The green one has announced himself and I believe the black is not here to threaten us either
"If you say so." Mira sighed and lowered the bow.
Rathan turned his head to the green one first. "Greetings forest one, I am Rathan what do you want with me?"
Before the green dragon could answer he directed his next words to the black and its rider. "Hail dark one, it is rare for so many of us to meet at one time. I will ask you the same as I asked the Forest one, What do you want with me?"

I only rose from the forests to see what might be traveling above, if you must know. Though, in my own interests, I must ask what you, Rathan, are doing above the forest I currently call home? He kept his voice calm, but he still couldn't think as well as he normally might. The black dragon truly was keeping his one his toes, or on his wingtips as the situation were. He smoothly dropped off the thermal and, to give himself something to do, began to fly circles around the pair, watching the approaching rider and dragon as best he could.
As he circled, the amber beads strung about his neck would glint in the sunlight, sending the rarest of orange flecks across his scales. Also about his neck, rear ankles, and tail trailed heavy black-iron chains, clinking slightly as he shifted in the cool morning air. He took a moment to stare at Mira, doing his best to gauge how strong she might be, but when he saw her bow he simply grumbled and flew on.

'There are manacles on the green one...' Alatheus said to Drogyn. At this point Drogyn brought one of his hands down to Alatheus' scales, trying to comfort him.
"It's all right, calm down before we get in trouble." though his words may have been harsh, they were delivered with a gentle tone. Drogyn understood his brother's anger, Hunters were as disgusting to him as the Fallen Ones were. Although it was slightly unfair to simply assume that Hunters were the cause, speaking honestly, there were few other possibilities. Drogyn then raised his head to address the others. It was then that the red dragon addressed them instead. After hearing the green one's reply, Drogyn suddenly felt very annoyed.
"Hmm, how embarrassing." Drogyn quietly said, massaging his temples as he felt his headache was about to get a lot worse.
'Greetings Skyflyers! My brother and I offer our apologies. We saw the green one rising from the forest below, and not knowing his intentions, we flew over in case things became violent.' Alatheus announced to the others, managing to be surprisingly well-mannered. Meanwhile, Drogyn was trying his hardest to ignore the green dragon that was now circling them. But he could feel his paranoia urging him to keep a closer watch on the dragon. He disliked the idea that the dragon could attack from a blindspot while circling them if they weren't careful enough. The urge to reach for Eden's handle was almost overpowering, but he gripped his legs harder resisting it, determined to not escalate this already precarious situation to violence.
"It truly was mostly my own paranoia that caused this. I apologize." Drogyn said, bowing his head, despite the warning signals from making his field of vision so much smaller. He could feel his honor taking blow after blow from his repeated distrust, but he was too careful a person to allow anything else. He then raised his head to continue, "My name is Drogyn, and my brother's Alatheus. It is an honor to meet not only two mighty dragons, but a rider as well." a tiny bit of flattery would probably be useful in a situation like this. Plus, Drogyn was the one who really started this possibly problematic situation, so he felt slightly indebted to these people. Slightly.

"I disagree, each of us perhaps wrongly interpreted the situation and so each of us are to blame. Besides a little paranoia is healthy in such troubles times do you not agree?"
Whilst she conversed with the rider Rathan concentrated on the dragons, Mira felt his chagrin at assuming he was the one to have been intruded upon. It had never occurred to him that he could be trespassing on another's territory. It was so unlike Rathan to be so embarrassed and Mira bit back a chuckle at his slightly embarrassed expression. He felt her humour and snorted in annoyance although it was only feigned, they teased each other mercilessly yet it was with affection and never malice.
"Forgive me Forest one, I meant no disrespect. I am simply unused to others approaching out of curiosity." Rathan's mouth opened in a snarl when his eyes rested on the green ones manacles.
"I would gladly tear apart whoever did that to you!His voice was angry yet the anger was not directed at the green dragon but at those who would have dared harm one of his brethren. Although they had only just met Rathan was fiercely loyal of his own kind and would protect any from such perils as hunters.

It was then that the large red dragon snarled at the manacles on the green dragon.
"Hunters!" 'Hunters!' Drogyn and Alatheus said simultaneously with an identical snarl. Alatheus reared his head towards the heavens and let out an earth-shattering roar of anger. At the same time, Drogyn's eyes started to burn with an eldritch glow from his anger. Drogyn raised a hand to his face before he started shaking his head as though to clear his mind. "Just calm down Alatheus, getting angry at the past only wastes energy. That, and your anger is making me even angrier." Alatheus simply snarled at his brother.
'Ignoring the effects of the past only makes it sure to repeat!'
"Yet living in it means it'll never disappear. There's a time and a place for anger at what those trash have done, a meeting between strangers isn't one of them. Besides, we saw the manacles as we flew in, so why be so angry now."
'W-well...he got angry, and so that reminded me, and then I started to get...' he trailed off at the deadpan look Drogyn was giving him. Then he huffed and turned away. 'Also, something's been bothering me, are those fea-'
"Don't be rude...and what a drastic topic switch, weirdo."
'...hmph. Yeah well you're the idiot.'
"Excuse me!" and so a fierce bout of sibling arguing began. Suffice to say, it was very childish.

Do not worry, my kin. The humans responsible met their ends in my jaws and flames years past. He yowled slightly, but as he flew it was obvious that the manacles and chains caused him no pain. In fact, he actually looked comfortable with them where they were. He rolled over and flapped higher, drawing level with them once more, this time hovering beside them instead of circling. Even if they did take my mate to the grave with them. Torture may not do much over a short time, but over years it becomes lethal, even to us.
He looked from rider to rider, backing away slightly from Drogyn and Alatheus as they suddenly released their fury.

Firesong growled and walked up to her, clearly annoyed about being woken up. What do you want, Ange? she growled.
"I want to go for a ride. We can go look for the Solar Egg." Evangeline smiled.
Hmmf. The chances of finding the egg are one in a million. Everyone is out looking for it. Firesong said.
Evangeline shrugged. "So was the chance I'd survive fighting you."
Firesong sighed. How come I get the rash Rider.
"Because you got lucky." Evangeline winked, as she ran up and climbed onto Firesong's back. "Let's go to the forest!"
Firesong leapt into the air, and glided off, heading towards the forest.
A while later, Firesong landed and Evangeline climbed off. She drew her sword. "Be careful," she warned. "Wild Dragons live out here."
I was a wild dragon.
"You were a wild egg." Evangeline corrected. She didn't have to look to know that Firesong was annoyed. "Does it help if I say you were difficult to move?"
No, not really.
"Alright."
Evangeline walked on, Firesong following her. Whereas Evangeline slipped through branches nimbly, Firesong just destroyed them.
"Could you try to keep the destroying to a minimum?" Evangeline said as another branch fell.
Nope.
"Fine." Evangeline mumbled.

She was distracted from her thoughts by hearing what appeared to be squabbling from the black dragon and his rider. She smiled and bit back a laugh at their behaviour. Rathan was not so restrained and his roar of laughter filled the sky. Mira waited until they had finished their argument before speaking.
"I am Mira and this moody one is Rathan." she said ignoring her dragons grumble at being called moody.
"If I may ask, what brings you to this area near the green ones home." she asked, nodding respectfully to the green dragon.

Evangeline stepped through the bushes, and immediately asked the question she needed to know the most. "Riders?" She blurted out. Hopefully, if they were, Firesong could come out. But she needed to be definate. They might be lying.
