Setting
*Lore Update:
The Calendar- There are 4 seasons in Ethra Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. No surprise there, but these seasons each have 100 days, that makes up one Ethran year. The dates are written as: (Season), (Day), Y;(Year), M;(Millennium). Then the time (Hour):(Minute) (IE- In the Evening, or IM- In the Morning).
****
The small town is bustling with busy people, sailors hauling their wears to merchants and traveling caravans, merchants selling their wears in the streets and some shops, mothers and innkeepers performing their daily tasks. A few thieves slink through the crowds in the streets, looking for their next paycheck.
At the dock, on the west side of the market, a large ship drops anchor. The crew and it's passengers exit, among them a retired knight known as Aerin. He walks down the dock, and takes a deep breath, then exhales. "Home..." He says as he breaths, a gruff yet kind voice.
He walks towards the market, eager to have some familiar food.
At the same time a young Dragoness walks through the market, looking for food. She's been traveling ever since her parents had been taken from her by the monsters. She hunts and forages for sustenance in the wild, but that doesn't go well for one so young and inexperienced, so she steals to get by. Her peach colored scales and long black hair give her the illusion of being human, but anyone with eyes can see her wings folded neatly behind her back. Her red eyes look from one person to the next, wondering 'where can I find some food?'
As these two near each other, Aerin can see the look of poverty on the Dragoness' face. He was familiar with it from the far off lands he had been too, but it wasn't something that he had ever though to see in his homeland. He feels pitty for the young Dragoness, but no one would tell by his actions, Aerin wasn't very good with communicating with others, especially strangers.
He would reach out and place a gloved hand on the Dragoness' shoulder before she could walk by him. "You there, child. Are you hungry?" He would say in his gruff voice, he said it as kindly as possible, but to those that didn't know him he may have come off as something not so kind.
Aerin looked at the dragoness as they walked into the loud pub. All Aerin saw was a few people that were buzzed from mead, a bard, a couple of call girls and the bartender, the happy people were the ones that were too drunk to realize where they were. It wasn't anything Aerin hadn't seen plenty of in the war. He would then look down at the dragon and smirk. "Burden? Not at all, after we eat you're going to start learning how to make your own coin." He said as he sat at the bar and ordered them some stew and bread, and two mugs of mead. Aerin didn't care for alcohol, but it was one of the safer things to drink, water could sometimes hold illnesses.
*Lore Update:
Alcohol: Alcohol, while safer to drink than stagnant water, or water you might get from a pub, still has it's negative effects. If your character is young/light weight, and hasn't eaten much with the alcohol, they may become intoxicated, impairing their accuracy, speed, intelligence and wisdom. Depending on the consumption the following Health effects can be obtained:
Buzzed: This isn't so bad, a little nip of mead, ale, or wine might give you this. Accuracy will be slightly lowered. 30 Mins
Tipsy: Drinking a glass of alcohol without eating any food will give you this. Accuracy and Speed will fall moderately. 2 Hrs
Drunk: Drinking more than one glass but less than 3 without eating, or 5 while eating will give you this. Accuracy, speed and intelligence will fall moderately. 4 Hrs
Alcohol Poisoning: Drinking any more that 5 glasses of alcohol at once will give you this. accuracy, speed, intelligence and wisdom will be moderately damaged, as well as you will take poison damage. 6 Hrs
All of these can be cured with magic, an Antidote, or a Elixir.*
Aerin watched the dragoness eat as he ate as well, only drinking enough of his mead to wet his mouth. "You may want to slow down, you look a little small to be drinking that fast, plus, you've got work to do once we're done here." Aerin said to her. When she told him her name Aerin nodded. "I am Aerin." He said plainly, not bother with his knighted title or last name.
Aerin looked at the young dragon as she expressed so much gratitude for just one meal. "It's no trouble, You learning how to stand on your own two feet will be a good way to make this small meal up to me." Aerin said as he paid for their food adn the mead.
Aerin looked to Andromeda and cleared his throat. "Now, the first thing to being able to make it on your own is knowing where to get a job. You see this place? People come here not just to drink and eat, but to clear their heads of their problems, the best way to do that is usually for them to vent out their issues to someone." Aerin said and then pointed to a few people. "The barkeep will often get a lot of information as he's a captive audience for his patrons. The barmaids, who bring food and drink out to the tables tend to overhear things, then there's the barflies, people who hand out in the bar on a regular basis, they'll know some things as well."
Aerin would then turn to the bartender and say "So have you heard of anyone who might need some help?" He asked. The bartender's eyes would shift from side to side to see if anyone else was listening then lean in so the dragoness and Aerin could hear "Yea, but it's not someone who wants people to know, the grocer apparently has a rat or two in his storeroom, he's willing to pay for their extermination, go ask him about it, but be subtle, people don't need to know rats may have been in their food." The bartender said before going to make another drink.
Aerin would look at Andromeda and say "It's not much, but it's a good place for you to start, if you get a reputation as someone who helps out people, more people might be willing to come to you with problems. So, are you ready to go kill some rats?" Aerins said with a smirk, knowing the job sounded repulsive, but knowing that Andromeda would need a place to start.
Andromeda sighed when Aerin mentioned killing rats, it wasn't what she had in mind when he had mentioned making a living. "So what, now I'm an exterminator?" She said, in a bit of a frump.
Aerin looked at the dragoness and smirked. "No little one, it mean's your now a Mercenary, a sword for higher, and if you so choose, an assassin." Aerin said as he looked down at the girl. "And, later on if you learn more skills there will be more things you;ll be able to do." Aerin added on.
*Lore Update:
Jobs: The jobs you can find in a town depend on the skills you know. for instance, if your character knows some fighting skills, they will get Hunting, Mercenary, and other fighting related quests. If they know Alchemy, they could be sent on a herb retrieval quest, or if they knew Smithing, they could be sent on an Ore retrieval quest or something like that. The more skills you learn and level up the more jobs you can get!*
Andromeda smiled when Aerin assured her she wasn't just some exterminator. "Well, I suppose Assassin sounds better than exterminator... Why don't we head over to the grocer?" She said standing up, a little wobbly from the mead, but not overly so.
Andromeda and Aerin would leave the pub and head to the market, finding the grocer at his small shop, where the upstairs doubled as his home, and the basement is where he stored his food. It was a simple wooden house, with a stone basement carved out of the ground.
When Aerin and Andromeda enter they see the shop keeper, a slightly portly man with a blonde bowl cut leaning on the counter holding his head as if stressed or having a headache. Aerin would walk to the counter and say "We heard you need to have some pests taken care of."
The grocer would look up at them and let out a happy sigh "OH, have you come to eradicate those little devils in my storage room? They's been eating so much of my produce, not to mention destroying anything they don't eat! Oh, it's horrible, but if you can get rid of them I'll happily reward you. Please, just go down there and kill them, and please try to save any of my produce you can." The man said as he showed them to the basement door, opening it.
The staircase down was illuminated by dim torchlight, as was the rest of the basement. The squeaks and scratching sounds of the rats were easily heard from the top of the staircase. "Well, let's get going kid." Aerin would say as he headed down the stairs, Andromeda following behind him. The door closed once they were halfway down the stairs, the shopkeeper not wanting any of the rats to get passed the adventurers.
Once in the basement you could see the rats rather easily, as their red eyes seemed to glow in the torchlight, not to mention they were easily the size of most average cats. "Be on your guard and ready your weapon Andromeda, these aren't just rats, these are what most people refer to as 'monsters'". Aerin said as he drew his blade, in anticipation as the rats moved closer as they noticed the adventurers.
*Lore Update:
Monsters: Not all monsters are large scaly things with fangs, wielding clubs and wanting to eat your flesh. Sometimes they can be as simple as a malicious Rat, or even a plant. Don't think just because something looks like a deer, that it won't turn demented and rip into you with it's antlers.
Battle: Battling is simple, you make a post stating what you want your character to do, and the FM will calculate the turn order and then write up a post detailing how that turn went, just remember at the beginning of each battle post you must put your characters HP and MP, written as: (Total) / (Current)*
Rat 1: HP: 100 / 100
Rat 2: HP: 100 / 100
Rat 3: HP: 100 / 100
Aerin: 350 / 350
Andromeda would draw her rusted blade when Aerin warned her these weren't just rats and ready herself for battle.
Aerin would quickly dash to one of the rats and give it an upwards strike with his blade, sending the rat flying back, it's body slamming against a wall with the distinctive crack of cartilage snapping.
Andromeda would then spot a rat coming towards her and quickly slice the creature with her blade, giving the rat a rather nasty cut on it's side, her rusty blade was rather dull.
"Be careful Andromeda, they may not be much, but they can pack a mean bite." Aerin warned as he looked down ad saw a rat trying to gnaw through his boot. Aerin quickly kicked the rodent aside and readied himself for another attack. "I trust you know some magic?" He said as he focused his energy.
As Aerin spoke the rat that Andromeda had wounded would leap at her, the unexpected attack making the dragoness fall to the ground.
Rat 1: 100 / 58
Rat 3: 100 / 100
Aerin: 350 / 350
Andromeda breathed in sharply when the Rat attacked her. "Of course I do" Andromeda smiled, casting her spell Static.
The air around Andromeda began to shimmer with energy, the rat that had pounced on her was caught in the spell, and was quickly knocked away by a pop of electricity, leaving behind a dead rat and the smell of burning fur.
+ Rat 1 takes 65 damage, and is killed. +
+ Static is no longer in effect +
* Lore Update:
Barrier Spells: Spells that set up a barrier or field around your character last for a certain amount of time, as long as your character doesn't move, moving will cause these spells to dissipate. These spells can also act as a counter, if an enemy attacks you while these spells are in effect they will take defense ignoring damage.*
Aerin smirked when he saw Andromeda's basic magic. "Well, it's good that you know some, but that's not much compared to some of the things I've seen people do." Aerin said as he unleashed a bolt of lighting at the final rat, which sent the small monster tumbling back, most of it's fur burned and a scorched spot on it's pelt.
+ Rat 3 takes 175 damage, and is killed.+
*Lore Update:
'Bolt' Spells: Bolt Spells are spells that travel in a straight line, while they are fast, they can be dodged and if there is anything between a character and the target then they will most likely miss their mark.*
Aerin looked at Andromeda, brushing off his sleeves and walked over to her, offering her a hand to help her up off the ground.
"Come on kid, we need to get our reward then see if we can get you some repairs to that blade of yours., and maybe some better armor." Aerin said.
"What do you mean? I heard from the barkeep that you had work, isn't there anything I can do?"
"I'm sorry, but these two adventurers already took care of my problem, I'm sorry, but I don't have anything else that needs to be done." The shopkeeper said.
"Come on, I needed that money, are you sure there's nothing I can do to help?" The source of the other voice was revealed once Aerin and Andromeda entered into the main shop. It was a female Feline Vulpi, her body fur was short, and a light creme color, while the hair on her head was long and pink, much like the fur on her ears and tail.
"I'm sorry, but with the problems I've been having, I barely have enough to pay these two for their services." The shop keeper said as he walked over to Aerin and Andromeda and handed them each a small coin-purse holding 250 gold coins.
+ Andromeda gains 250 Gold +
"Oh, fine..." The Feline said and headed towards the exit.
Aerin would look down at Andromeda, then at the Vulpi as she walked away. He would sigh and walk over to the Vulpi and tap her on the shoulder. "Hey, kid, here, I'll give you a loan, if you're willing to learn how to pay it back." Aerin said as he offered the Vulpi the small coin-purse.
[FM: The next post should be Katez's response.]
"Eh," She called while standing in front of the bar, staring at the man behind it with her large green eyes. "You gots any work?" She asked, trying to sound polite, despite the fact she hated being there. Shifting her weight to mainly be on her left leg, her right hip stuck out a bit, and she automatically placed her hand on it.
The man, who looked utterly bored and phased, shook his head. "Nope."
Katze nearly growled while glaring at the man. "What do you mean? I heard from the bar keep you had work! Isn't there anything I can do?" She asked in a tone that was louder than she had actually planned on using.
The man sighed and shook his head again, though there was atleast a little emotion on his face this time. "I'm sorry, but those two adventurers took care of my problem. I don't have anything else that needs to be done." The man kneeled down to get something from under the counter. Katze turned slightly to look at the two had entered the shop. With all her might, she refrained from glaring at the two. Taking a deep breath, she turned her attention back to the shop man. "Come on, I need that money! Are you sure there's nothing I can do to help?" She pleaded once more, her eyes following him as he walked over to the two near the doorway.
"With the problems I've been having, I barely have enough to pay these two for their services." He replied before handing them each a satchel of their earnings.
"Oh, fine." Katze sighed as her expression changed from determined to worried. Slowly, she started to head towards the exit, while her mind tried to think of anyone else who might have work that needed done. Without a glance in their direction, Katze passed the two who stood near the doorway, though it was obvious she was in thought. As she reached the door she heard a sigh and a sudden tapping on her shoulder. Her hair went on ends at the sudden touch, but she refrained from bringing up her guard. Slowly, she turned to face the man. Her green eyes glanced down at the satchel he held out to her before her eyes moved to gaze at his. She knew better than to fully trust people, which made her wonder what he could possibly want. Never the less, she desperately needed the money.
Slowly, her long fingers stretched towards the satchel and she nodded. For a moment, she thought of showing gratitude for the gesture, however she decided it would be better to wait and see how she would have to repay him. "I am willing to learn." She stated in a matter of fact tone that had a slight accent that was common among the Feline Vulpi tribes.
+Katez gains 250 Gold+
Aerin would look back at Andromeda and motion for her to come as he looked back to the Vulpi. "I am Aerin, and this is Andromeda, now, let's see about you two getting your armor repaired, and those weapons as well." Aerin said as he patted the Vulpi on the back and headed to the door.
