"She could use someone like you and you know, I dont think you have a team, am I right?"
'What does he mean by that?' Damia thought while letting out another, "But...."
"This would be a perfect opertunity for both of you!" Posco said while still smiling. Before Damia could let out another, but, Posco continued by saying, "Now if you'll excuse me, I promised Arianna to get her some food." and left after saying it. Damia was somewhat mortified that his plan never had a chance to come into action. He stood there with his mouth open and eyes unclosed for about a minute before deciding to test this whole team thing.
He walked to the mission board to pick a simple job for him and Ari to do. He just wanted to see if he could actually put up with her as a partner and also wanted to see if he could actually survive a mission with her without her killing him. 'Hahaha. Looks like we got stuck with her boss. You should've just let her get hit by the cart.' Ruby said to him in his head. 'No.' Damia said back. 'If I were to let that happen I'd get a bad taste in my mouth. Plus, she's not all bad.......I guess.' Ruby laughed at this statement.
Damia found the perfect mission for them. Two thousand Jewls to catch a big fish. Sounded simple enough for him and he could also test the limits of the girls patience. He decided to go into the room where she took Arianna but first he had to say something to this weird masked fellow.
Walking up to him he said, "Hey. Instead of working alone and breaking the guilds building, you should just join Fairy Tale. It's much more fun breaking stuff when it's yours." He flashed the guy a smile, not waiting for his reply, if he had one and left. He had bigger fish to fry and it was right behind the door he was in front of. He opened it slowly as not to cause alarm and entered the room.
"My gosh, this will take me forever..." Takeshi thought as he gazed upon the nearly patched up hole, "I need a better plan...a fast one..."
Takeshi brought out his deck of cards and looked at what he could use. "Oh, silly, forgetful me." he told himself when he saw the "Root" card. The card had artwork showing a man with branches and vines growing out of his hand.
"Root, activate! I summon, the living wall, NATURE'S SHIELD!" Takeshi shouted. A dozen bolts of green energy shot out of the crystal on his chest and landed at the floor near the hole in the wall. In an instant, numerous Holder Plant-like plants spawned from the impact site of the beams and patched up the hole.
"Well..." Takeshi started, only to see that the Guild Master was gone and others were busy with themselves. He decided to sit down on a nearby chair.
A little melody had begun to form, but then Ari could see the door move out of the corner of her eye. It was a sign to her to stop and leave before anything had the chance to develop. But when Damia's face appeared, she somewhat froze. Ari moved her guitar so it was laying back on the bed next to her. "Ever heard of knocking?" Her eyes trailed over to Arianna, still rather emotionless, then to Suna who had conveniently waltzed in behind the boy. "Come on, Suna. Let's go find Posco."
"That won't be necessary, Ari," Posco appeared in the doorway next to Damia. "Here you are, Arianna, some food." He handed a heaping plate of random food to the girl. "I threw whatever I found on a plate," he said with a smile. "So did you two pick out a mission yet? I'm sure the level wouldnt matter since your such an amazing mage," he said in a dotting voice as he pinched the smaller girl's cheek. Ari slapped his hand away almost like it was a habit. "Now now. Since Damia is a more experianced mage, I need you to listen to him, alright? And if he has any rules, follow them." Posco pat everyone in the room on the head, except Suna (he got a scratch on the head). Before he could leave though, he remembered something that everyone but a few in the guild had a problem with. "Don't destroy any towns either. I have a feeling you are going to be pretty bad."
Ari didnt have a chance to protest as Posco left, maybe to oversee the cleaning. "I don't need anyone to babysit me!" Ari yelled. She yanked the guitar from of the bed and strapped it around herself. Suna stared up at Ari, but Ari was burning holes through the door with her most intense glare.
Posco walked over to the door that was now covered in roots. His eyes traveled to the boy who was now sitting down. "I said fix, kid. This looks horrific." Posco sighed and rubbed his eyes with one hand. "Follow me. I'll get you some wood so you can refix it and make it look better." He said, resting his hand on the floor, making a plank of wood shoot through the roots, ripping a hole through them. It was big enough for people to go through it, so Posco stepped out of it and towards the edge of the forest nearest the guild.
'Hey boss, Posco said that this girl has to follow any rule you make. You should make her do something crazy.' Ruby snickered in his head. This gave Damia a really good idea. It was evil. So evil in fact that he had to make a grin to match what he was thinking. "Ari... er....blond Ari. Since you have to do whatever I say I have one rule you absolutely must follow if your going to be on my team. You have to have fun and try to smile no matter what." He said, thinking it was the most genius thing he'd ever come up with.
'Boss that's a little lame.' Ruby said in a bored tone.
'I'm not done.' He said.
"Also, the client is a cat man who loves nyans and such. So you have to say nyan at the end of every sentence when you meet him."
'Hahahahahahahaa. Genius boss. Absolutely genius.'
Damia's face looked confident as he had his hand on this chin. 'I know. I'm the master of pranks.' He then laughed lightly at the thought of the girl making the nyan sound.
"Come on." Damia said to Ari. "We have to go catch a fish."
Fish .... catch a fish .... one of the 'strongest guilds' out there and we are spending our time with lame missions. Ari was confused, shocked and angry all at the same time, but her face was blank. Suna looked up at her with adorably pleading eyes and hidden far in the back was adventure. Both of them had been looking up to this day, training like crazy and Suna wasn't going to give up. No matter how obviously worthless Ari thought the effort was. She hadn't noticed that Damia had been talking to the other girl until he addressed her again.
"Ari... er....blond Ari. Since you have to do whatever I say I have one rule you absolutely must follow if your going to be on my team. You have to have fun and try to smile no matter what." He said. Ari smiled immediately, one thought going through her mind. That Damia had no idea what her version of fun was.
Now he can't get mad at me for tearing him to shreds. He wants me to have fun then I'll have it.
"Also, the client is a cat man who loves nyans and such. So you have to say nyan at the end of every sentence when you meet him." Ari heard a chuckle come from both Damia and Suna. She wasn't smiling anymore for obvious reasons. The only thing that was stopping her from using her guitar as a murder weapon was Suna. He had worked his hardest to get here and now they were there. She couldn't ruin it for him. He was the only family she had (not counting Posco).
"She'll do it," Suna answered for her. "And I'll make sure of it." Ari was to confined in the depths of her deepest and angriest thoughts to deny it. But she could register the dogish smile on Suna's face, which was just enough to make her smile as well.
He lead Ari and Suna to the meeting destination written in the request. It was a small house, not to far from the lake. He nocked on the door and the cat man who answered, was actually a cat man. He had the body of a human with cat whiskers, ears, and a tail. "Well helooooooo." He said to them. His voice was surprisingly feminine for an older man. He looked like he was in his late thirties. "Are you here for the request I sent out."
Damia nodded. "Yes sir. I am Damia and this is Ari." He said as he nudged Ari. "Introduce yourself. He is a client after all. Hehe." He was ready to here her introduction. He turned to the man. "You know catching a fish isn't really worth two thousand jewels. Hehe."
"Actually that was my mistake." The man explained. "I meant to write two more zero's to that sheet."
"Oh I see....." Damia smiled and then paused. "What!!?" He was shocked now. It was shocking enough that the man was going to pay two thousand, but if you add two more zero's that's..... 'Two...Hundred.....Thousand.' The boy thought with a surprised look on his face. His mouth was open wide enough for a bird to lay a nest in it. Why was the payment so high for one fish?
"W-Wait! Wait for me!" Takeshi said, rushing outside to follow the Guild Master. It was embarrassing enough that he destroyed their wall, and repairing it was the least he can do.
"I...am...really...sorry...for....the wall...Guild Master, sir..." he panted when he finally caught up with him, "I guess I...kinda exaggerated awhile ago...when I begged you not to kill me..."
He scratched his neck and was starting to go under his helmet, but stopped. He was going to join Fairy Tail as Takeshi Souma, not the Masked Ranger, he thought. He would have to talk to the Guild Master privately about this, and this looked like a good opportunity.
"W-Wait! Wait for me!" Posco heard the boy yell from behind, quickly catching up. "I...am...really...sorry...for....the wall...Guild Master, sir..." he panted when he finally caught up with him, "I guess I...kinda exaggerated awhile ago...when I begged you not to kill me..." Posco sighed, but pulled on a smile as he looked back at the boy.
"People seem to have a misconception about me. Sure I could mow down more than 20 towns in a single blow, but it doesn't mean I will. I live to protect the people, not strike fear into them." Posco didn't go to far into the forest, only to where you wouldn't know they were there unless you really looked. A deep breath later, Posco was kneeling on the ground, humming a soft tune as he slowly stuck his hands and arms into the earth. "Heaven's Dancers," he whispered as his arms sunk lower. They began in a circular motion, rock figures shooting up from the ground. Their arms rapidly thrust out, creating sword-like appendages as they swiftly chopped down tree after tree. Once Posco thought there were enough trees, he sent the rock people to the resting trees to cut them into planks. It was a quick job, and a quick job was always a good job.
"Now," Posco said, pulling his arms from the Earth as the stone figures disappeared. "Lets carry all this back to the guild." This task might havetaken a little more time, but it would give the man something to do. He lifted a few planks and put them on his shoulder. "If you needed supplies to fix it in the first place, you should have asked." Posco looked at the boy.
"Awesome. This should be fun to say the least. Let's go then. Have to buy dinner tonight after all." Damia said while heading out the door. He kept a steady pace until he was out the guild hall, Ari trailing behind sadly. "I'll be back everyone." Damia had said to the guild. Well duh, ari thought, All we are doing is catching a stupid fish.
He lead Ari and Suna to the meeting destination written in the request. It was a small house, not to far from the lake. Damia nocked on the door and the cat man who answered, was actually a cat man. He had the body of a human with cat whiskers, ears, and a tail. "Well helooooooo." He said to them. His voice was surprisingly feminine for an older man. He looked like he was in his late thirties. "Actually that was my mistake." The man explained. "I meant to write two more zero's to that sheet."
"Oh I see....." Damia smiled and then paused. "What!!?" He was shocked now. Ari wasn't effected by the price at all. They were Fairy Tail after all.
Suna stood pressed to Ari's side, looking up to her witn the biggest eyes he could. Damia wouldn't be the only one to get a kick out of her little intro. "I'm Ari ... nya." She looked at the ground, avoiding any eye contact. She was completely determined to avoid speaking at all during this mission.
"Oh. Hello Ari Nya." The cat man said with a cat like smile. "I love cats. Hmmm. Oh yeah. hold on really quick." The man then proceeded to go inside his house. Damia looked at Ari and gave her a proud smile. "I'm proud of you kiddo." He said patting her head gently.
It didn't take long for the cat man to return and with him, he brought a silver fishing rod with a steak attached to it. "This should help you to catch him. Ohhhh, I can't wait to eat him when you get back."
Damia took the rod and told the man, "Don't worry sir. Fairy Tail always delivers. C'mon Ari Nya." He said slurring his words to sound like a cat. He took them to the lake. It was a beautiful one, but then again, this was Mongolia after all. The water looked clean enough to drink and reflected the sun perfectly and the tree's were full of green life. He was surprised to find that there wasn't a single soul around.
Reaching into one of the boxes on his belt he pulled out a blue crystal. "Sapphire, freeze." He said and the crystal lit up with almost blinding blue light. Damia pointed his hand towards the ground and made a chair made out of ice for him to sit on. He then cast a line out into the lake and took a seat with a proud expression on his face. Turning to Ari he said, "Now the only thing we have to do is wait. It shouldn't be that long." He wasn't really sure however, how long it would take to catch a fish. Though, after twenty minutes he did seem to nod off a little bit.
"Cool..." Takeshi thought. Obviously, he couldn't do that, but witnessing the Guild Master's Magic up close is quite an honor fo him.
"Now," the Guild Master said, pulling his arms from the Earth as the stone figures disappeared. "Lets carry all this back to the guild." This task might have taken a little more time, but it would give the man something to do. He lifted a few planks and put them on his shoulder. "If you needed supplies to fix it in the first place, you should have asked."
"Yes, sir." Takeshi replied. He pulled out a card with a buff minotaur in the illustration. "Lend me your strength, the Mighty Minotaur of the Mountains!" he roared as soon as the card was in front of his chest. Instantly, he gained large, hairy gauntlets and hoof-like boots. He carried the wooden planks over his shoulder with one hand and put his other hand at his helmet.
"Um...Guild Master, sir?" Takeshi started, "I have considered joining Fairy Tail, but I think it would be best if we spoke about this privately, first, Guild Master."
He then lead the Guild Master a few steps away from where theywere. When he saw the coast was clear, he took off his helmet, showing his true face.
"I am Takeshi Souma." he began, "Years ago, my parents were killed by criminals, but Fairy Tail mages saved me from that fate. I was inspired by their bravery and integrity, and this led me to becomethe Masked Ranger, a mage who fights not only with magic, but with my own strength.
"It was, of course, easier said than done. The incident a while ago was definately not me at my best. I am...sorry about that. But I am dedicated to what I do. I may need help every now and then, but I always return the favor..."
Takeshi stopped. What was he doing?! How would the guild master accept him if he caused damage to their building? He waited for is reply, hoping it was a good one. Either way, he was going to fix that wall...
She had done well in joining Fairy Tail, regardless of the minor incidents few and in between, and now that she was here, her next goal was to grow stronger. And best way to do that, she thought to herself, was to take on a mission. It would give her a chance to practice, and an excuse to get away from the noise of the guild which she was not yet used to. Besides, she needed money to afford a place to stay as she couldn't remain in the infirmary.
Once done with her food, Arianna quietly took her plate and went to the door, slipping out, unnoticed by the rest of the guild. She silently went behind the bar and slid her plate into the sink before wandering over to the mission board. Her eyes trailed over the papers pinned to the wood as she considered them. After a few minutes of looking she spotted one that seemed to suit her well.
There was a disagreement between two farmers who lived next to each other over a field they both claimed to own, and they had asked that a wizard come and sort things out. It was a meager 35,000 jewels ($350), hardly enough to rent a house or anything but it would be enough to feed her for the month so she couldn't complain. They were farmers after all and this was undoubtably a lot of money to them.
'Perhaps I will be able to find a place that I could rent cheap. I don't care how fancy it is, as long as it meets my needs.' Arianna thinks as she takes down the paper from the board. She didn't really know how all of it worked, accepting missions and what not. Did she simply choose one and leave to fulfill it? Did she have to inform Posco or someone else in the guild? Was she allowed to go alone? She looked around for help, evidently confused, before she sighed and walked up to the nearest person in the guild, a person she had not originally recognized.
"Um, excuse me," she started quietly, her voice uncertain but otherwise devoid of feeling, "What am I supposed to do this this? Accepting a mission I mean." The person, a man with black hair and kind eyes grinned. "Oh, it's easy, just talk to the bartender over there," he points to the young woman behind the bar, "and she'll give you the A-Okay." Arianna nodded, thanking him politely, before walking over and doing just that. Once the mission had been confirmed she folded the piece of paper up and put it in her pocket, heading out towards the door.
"Um...Guild Master, sir?" Takeshi started, "I have considered joining Fairy Tail, but I think it would be best if we spoke about this privately, first, Guild Master."
He then lead the Guild Master a few steps away from where they were. When he saw the coast was clear, he took off his helmet, showing his true face.
"I am Takeshi Souma." he began, "Years ago, my parents were killed by criminals, but Fairy Tail mages saved me from that fate. I was inspired by their bravery and integrity, and this led me to become the Masked Ranger, a mage who fights not only with magic, but with my own strength. It was, of course, easier said than done. The incident a while ago was definitely not me at my best. I am...sorry about that. But I am dedicated to what I do. I may need help every now and then, but I always return the favor..." Takeshi stopped.
Posco sat and watched as it seemed Takashi conflicted with himself.
“Kid, you don’t have to get so worried.” Posco got up and pat Takashi on the back. “Everyone makes mistakes and even when they try their hardest, they fall. Even the best in the guild will meet their match. But I have to ask if you are even ready to join us. Obviously your heart is in the right place. But what about your mind?”
"Bite me!" She said, turning away, a small laugh escaping Suna.
It didn't take long to arrive to the lake. But it wasn’t the lake she cared about. The trees were what had her attention. They were perfect. It looked like Damia had already taken charge, so there was practically nothing for her to do.
"Now the only thing we have to do is wait. It shouldn't be that long." But after twenty minutes it seemed like he didn’t know what he had said. Ari had made her way to the other side of the lake to the biggest tree. Suna wanted to swim around, but was afraid to scare away their chance of catching the fish. So he rolled around in the shade under a tree.
Ari continued to watch the sky, seeing as it was more interesting than the nasty water below.
“Kid, you don’t have to get so worried.” the Guild Master got up and pat Takashi on the back. “Everyone makes mistakes and even when they try their hardest, they fall. Even the best in the guild will meet their match. But I have to ask if you are even ready to join us. Obviously your heart is in the right place. But what about your mind?”
My...My mind..? Although he had dedicated his life to vigilante justice, Takeshi didn't give it much thought until he was at the middle of his career. Sure he had a rough start, having his identity nearly exposed at least a dozen times, almost dying at least 20 times, and also having to make very tough decisions. These events made him consider retiring from the "hero business" for good.
Takeshi stood up and sighed as he collected his thoughts. “I am ready!” he respectfully told the Guild Master, “I have endured so much to bring myself to your prescence, there is no way I wll let this opportunity go to waste! Just please...please give me a chance...”
