[Fears]
- Leandra is afraid of never making a mark on the world. She wants to be able to inspire others with her dance, and bring about that sense of accomplishment and happiness from dancing and instill it in others. She hopes that getting a degree in Dance, and a minor in Psychology, can help her understand the way people think, in order to bring about happiness in others through her dance.
- As far as true phobia's go, Leandra is truly afraid of moths. She can't stand the sight of them, and panics when she see's them. If she's out at night, and comes home to find moths at the front door of the building, she has to throw things at the door to get them to fly away in order to get in. She practically has a panic attack just watching them flit around the outside light. She's been known to leave the light off at night if she knows she going out specifically to avoid them gathering by the front door. If they fly at her head, though, thats a totally different story...
Leandra is a very bubbly person - she loves to smile, has been known to break out in dance when she gets excited, and she absolutely loves to laugh. Her smile has been dubbed 'infectious disease level 10' because she literally lights up the room when she smiles. She loves to be around people, and although she loves to be with the group, and is very extroverted, she doesn't feel the need to be the center of attention. If she adds to the conversation in a constructive manner, and gets a good laugh from everyone around her now and then, she's perfectly content. She understands the need for others to talk, and just have someone listen. So she lets things happen as she feels they should. But when it comes to dance? The story is totally different... Dance is her forte - if the opportunity presents itself, you better believe she's going to be making people watch. As a senior Dance Major, not only is she quite further advanced above her peers, but she has a certain personality and emotion to her dance that others in her major just don't quite possess. Her schooling always comes first, and she has excelled in both of her fields of study. Psychology means a lot to her because she wants to understand the human psyche in order to speak to others in a more fluid way through her dance. She is the type of person who would be there for you at your worst time in your life, without a second thought. Loyal to the end, happy at heart, and brimming with energy. That is Leandra Gates.
July 30th, 1991 - Leandra Annibelle Gates is born at Abington Memorial Hospital, just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The only daughter of Emilia and Theodore Gates, Leandra was raised in a privileged household. She attended private school outside of Philadelphia, and started dancing at various studios throughout the area at the age of 2 and 1/2 years. Her parents always stressed the importance of schoolwork on her from a very young age, and Leandra excelled at school, earning awards for her achievements. But the young girl never lost her love for dance, learning to balance her school work with her study of dance. Eventually, her parents enrolled her in a pre-professional dance school, where she learned to excel even further in her art.
Leandra had known from a very young age that she wished to continue dancing as a career choice. But as she aged, she learned how much it meant to her to see others happy, and she found that she could intertwine that happiness within her dance. As she approached college age, Leandra began to focus more on psychology in her high school, and found a love within herself for it.
Upon receiving her acceptance letter from Fulton University during her senior year of high school, she decided that she would make her dream of opening a studio where she could bring others to find their own personal happiness through dance a reality. Auditioning for the dance major was a time of high-nerves for Leandra, but she made it through, placing into the major with high marks. The school was impressed with her grades in school, and while she had never really done anything super out of the ordinary, she was a prima ballerina at he pre-professional school, which definitely helped secure her spot in the dance major. Enrolling as a psychology minor was also a thrill for her - she could finally see her dreams becoming reality. During Rush Week of her freshman year, she joined the girls of Theta Chi, and found her "home away from home" within this sorority. They were supportive, and all focused on their school work. She appreciated that sense of 'knowing' among her fellow housemates. As a senior, she hopes to show incoming freshman just how amazing it is to be a Theta Chi, so that they, too, can excel in their own dreams, and make them realities.
- Held the role of Meg in Phantom Of The Opera at her high school during her sophomore year, as well as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes during her Junior year. She unfortunately could not find the time for a senior year show during her final year of high school, as she had been promoted to prima ballerina in her pre-professional program.
- Will be choreographing a showcase featuring all her own choreography this year. Dances will include solo work featuring herself, group work, as well as duets and solos she choreographed specifically for juniors in her major.
- Has maintained a 4.0 throughout her college career
- Has been known to sit in 'weird' positions, and usually declines chairs, preferring to sit on the floor so she can stretch (outside of the classroom, of course)
- Never really had a problem with bullies - either she simply didn't notice if someone said something rude to her, or brushed it off as simple unhappiness.
- Has had one boyfriend in her entire life - she is no longer a virgin, but then again, they are also no longer dating...
- While she excels immensely in course work, she tends not to bring it up unless asked.
- Changes her hair color almost as much as she changes her clothing.
- Stands at just barely 5'3''
