╔══════════════════════════╗
XXXEgotistical ✦ Intelligent ✧ Dominant ✦ Social ✧ Charming
╚══════════════════════════╝
A lot of people seem to think that if your parents work hard and wealthy, that they also must be neglectful. That it's mandatory that you were raised by nannies, and that your parents wouldn't bat an eye at the thought of missing your first day of kindergarten or your second grade play for a business meeting, or some posh party, or a golf outing with clients. Jameson is aware that this is something that happens to some kids, and he has friends with life stories similar enough to that to know it, but it isn't the way that he was raised. He was raised by two involved parents who taught him that he was the most valuable and important thing on the planet. There was nothing in the world that was unattainable to him. He could be anything he wanted to be, and do anything that he wanted to do. Confident has always been just part of who he is. He's never been the type of person who gets nervous about speaking to or in front of people. He actually thoroughly enjoys conversation, debate, and any opportunity to showcase his talents. While he's grown up enough to know that he isn't the best at everything, like his parents allowed him to think as a child, he still is very sure of himself. Sometimes, it comes across as being cocky and egotistical, and he's well-aware of this, but he'd rather seem like the jerk who thinks that he's better than everyone than the kid who's too scared to do anything out of fear of failure. Jameson knows that he's not perfect, but that doesn't stop him from trying to be.

In his defense, he isn't opinionated. He's smart enough to know that other people have something to offer and bring to the table. While he certainly has a dominant enough personality where he likes to think that he, too, has something to bring to every conversation, whether he truly does or not, he is open to learning and listening. He knows how to engage with people and turn conversations towards their interests to make them like him. He's good at manipulating people's emotions and working out deals that really mainly benefit him, yet allow the other party to feel satisfied too; something that his businessman of a father taught him. He has some know-it-all tendencies and confidence to a point of cockiness that sometimes causes others to roll their eyes at his mere presence, but there's no denying that James has charm and a likeability factor that makes it easy to overlook those characteristics.

His father taught him how to play sports, and how school was important because even if it wouldn't teach him everything he needed to know to succeed, it would teach him how to network. How to socialize. How to see the way that a hierarchy worked, and how he could work his way up that. Those things made him popular with the boys he went to school with. His mother was just as involved in her son's life, though, and she was the one who taught him how to woo girls. She was the one forcing him to go shopping with her for Valentine's Day gifts for the little girls he was crushing on in elementary school. She was the one making sure that he always smelled good, and that his hair was brushed properly, before leaving the house for school every morning. While his dad helped him learn the ropes of what being a ladies man entailed, it was his mother who really taught him how to treat women. Anyone could be a player, but what set James apart from so many of the guys at his school was that he learned how to be that sweet, sensitive, charming guy that all of the girls truly wanted. He was the guy who could talk his way into any girl's pants, and still manage to give her butterflies even after barely answering her text messages in the days following their one night together. He's naturally flirtatious and charming, part of the social aspect of his personality, but he also knows how to be sweet, sentimental and thoughtful.

He has spent his entire life trying to be perfect, and from afar, it looks like he's doing a great job. He's popular and well-liked by most, with many of his haters disliking him for reasons that he can brush off as stemming from jealousy. He does well in school, does well in sports, and has an active social life. It's never that easy, though, and while James isn't struggling with any major, traumatic issues, he certainly feels the pressure to be perfect quite frequently. He's deathly afraid of amounting to nothing and disappointing his parents. He is constantly internally questioning himself, wondering if he really knows who he is, and if this person he's been acting as for all of these years is really himself, or a projection of the person that he thinks everyone wants him to be. He's more unsure, emotional and insecure than he acts, but few people know that side of him.

✧ Alan Airth ✧ ↣ Father ↣ Alive
✦ Alexandra Airth (née Badger) ✦ ↣Mother ↣ Alive

✦Hɪsᴛᴏʀʏ✦
Jameson was born and raised in New York City. He is the only child of Alan and Alexandra Airth. Both of his parents come from money, with his mother being one of the four children of Jacqueline Mars, heir to the Mars, Inc. fortune, and his father coming from a long line of real estate moguls. While Alexandra was raised in a very posh way, Alan was pushed, especially by his father, to make it on his own. Despite his family being worth millions, he was told that he had to work his way through college and make a name for himself on his own. His parents didn't want him to be a spoiled brat who thought he could have success handed to him, and while that might have made some bitter, it drove Alan to success. He worked in various financial related businesses after graduating from UPenn's business school, and now manages a hedge fund firm that he funded, that has set him into the billion dollar range in terms of net worth.

Needless to say, Jameson had it good growing up. He had the money, but more than that, he had parents who adored him. Neither of his parents wanted only one child, but soon after they married, they realized that they had a very low chance of conceiving a child. It took five years of trying for Jameson to be born, and even with him, they had to use IVF procedures. They tried for three years after his birth to bring a sibling into the world for him, but it just wasn't in the cards for them. While his parents were upset, they were able to funnel that energy into making sure their son had the best and brightest future. Though they didn't raise Jameson in a way similar to how Alan was raised, where he was forced to work for everything he wanted, he also wasn't raised where he was spoiled endlessly. He was spoiled more than he should have been with their affection, because he was basically living a life where he could do no wrong in their eyes, but materialistically, Jameson was well-off, but not spoiled rotten. He grew to understand the value of a dollar and how much satisfaction hard work and well-deserved success meant.

Life has never been particularly difficult for him. He's currently going through some hiccups in his relationship with Sydney, especially now that a new girl has come to the city to catch his interest (and in a different way than the many other girls he's given the time of day to have), but it's nothing he doesn't think he can get through. He's doing a good job at completely and utterly blacking out the fact that his father was recently caught cheating on his mother, and that his father's business interests may do even more harm to his once perfect little family... so other than that, yup, all is good.

Leave it to New York to be one of the fewest places during the summer that you don't want to be at in August. Seriously, who the hell told the weather to just drop like that?

Hey, readers, Gossip Girl here and luckily for you, Manhattan's little darlings won't let some small drop in the weather ruin the rest of their summer fun and I'm pretty sure James Airth is going to be the leader of our little motley crew in the next four hours since he's throwing a yacht party. They're disembarking from the Hamptons, so you already know to be prepared for scantily clad minors running around with alcohol they probably stole from mommy and daddy's liquor cabinets. Then again, I'm pretty sure that a lot of it was purchased with mommy and daddy's credit cards, but who am I to judge? As you all already know, I will be one of the first to order one of those succulent apple martinis because love him or hate him, but Airth's bartenders usually make the best martinis. And what will our favorite little darlings be doing in the meantime?

Well, last I checked while Sydney and The New Girl's - and yes, I do know her name, it's just so much more fun to call her The New Girl for a bit longer - parents are still on their honeymoon until the school year starts, you actually haven't seen the two together yet. In fact, you haven't seen them anywhere near each other. I wonder if we should ask Airth about that since Alaina's been getting real chummy with her and he went bowling with those two the other day. And believe it or not, Katherine Arnault is back in town. I know, I know - she just dropped off of the face of the planet and without either of her besties, Alexis or Sydney, at that. Isn't she like, their little lapdog or something? Then again, sweetie's been caught in the worst divorce ever since neither of her girls are talking and isn't Alexis just coming back from vacay? Or are we still not ready to just call it what it probably was, which was rehab? Or damage control? I'm sure we can all find something we can agree upon when referring to our now crown-less diva. Nevertheless, while I myself am getting ready for this yacht party and the jacuzzi that you all know I'm gonna stay in, let's see what our little lovelies can get themselves in to in the meantime.

By now, the annual yacht party that Jameson threw felt like second nature to a point where he wasn't stressed about it. His mother was the one who truly planned in, since he couldn't have cared less about the color of the table cloths in the dining area of the ship, or what was going to be served on the menu, or what brand vodka would be carried. As long as there was a dance floor, DJ, food and booze, he knew it was going to be a good time. Though his family owned boats of their own, they were smaller, and more intimate luxury yachts. Not boats capable of holding one hundred guests. That was why they preferred to charter boats. Having minors drink on a boat that wasn't yours always required some special connections and a little bit of extra money up front in order to have people agree to turn a blind eye on the legality of it, but it always worked out in the end in a world where money equaled power and exemption from the rules subjected on normal people.

With a big party only a few hours away, most people would be busy working out the final details and making sure that everything was in order for the night, but that was the opposite of what James was doing. His mother, still in Manhattan, was probably busy doing all of that (though in Jameson's defense, she actually enjoyed event planning, so he wasn't unfairly subjecting her to any unwanted stress), but he, on the other hand, found himself comfortably lounging on a pool chair outside of his family's Southampton home. Laying on the chair beside him was the beautiful blonde that he was lucky enough to (currently) be calling his girlfriend. Even if he was calling her that, he wasn't sure if he was calling him her boyfriend in return. His relationship with Sydney was a complex one filled with instances of cheating on his part that he was ashamed of (though at the same time, wasn't completely ready to abandon), and instances of cheating on his part that Jameson had no evidence of, but enough gut-feeling to suspect. Why he and Sydney continued to date, especially when their temporary breakups could involve such raw and volatile emotion, James did not know. He knew that he was never going to marry Sydney one day. Their relationship wasn't that deep. Still, though, he liked her. He liked her to a point where when he wasn't officially dating her, he found himself constantly calling and texting her and checking her social media. It was one of those "you don't know what you've got til it's gone" things, where he wanted her more when they were apart than when they were together. That wasn't to say that they were miserable together, or that the whole relationship was a scam to deceive the public eye, because it wasn't that either. Times like now with Sydney were good. They were relaxing, and just living. He knew that she was stressed over the recent issues that had arisen within her girl group of friends, but who could blame her? Jameson wouldn't acknowledge that she was probably stressed about her step family situation as well, because his friendship with Dinah probably contributed to that, so he focused on feeling sympathetic for her revolving around her issues with Kat, but mostly with Alexis. That's why he hoped tonight was relaxing fun. Not the drama-inducing kind of fun that he sometimes liked to watch from the sidelines. Just plain, pure, good fun before school started. He didn't know if it was possible given how his peers tended to be, but a guy could hope.

With a deviant smirk on his face, he got up from his chair and grabbed Sydney's ass as she laid stomach-down on her chair, possibly sleeping. Giving it a nice squeeze, he reminded himself that being able to do that whenever you wanted was one of the best reasons for having a girlfriend. Even if she was crazy. He was still smirking even as he stepped back a few feet from eliminate her from any wrath she might take in her immediate vicinity, and he held his hands up in playful surrender. "Didn't mean to disturb you, Sleeping Beauty. I'm just going inside to grab a drink. Want anything?" He waited for her answer before going inside, fetching himself a water bottle. Sitting out in the sun for a little while had not only left him thirsty and hot, but tired as well. He knew after showering he would perk up and be ready for the night, especially since he had slept in considerably late today. Before returning outside, he answered a few texts his mother had sent him, before texting a few people of his own. Along with some of the guys in his immediate friend group, he texted Tristan, Alaina and Dinah.

To: Alaina
My mom wants to make sure it's clear that unless you're staying at one of your friends houses tn you can stay here. I think I've gotten 20 texts about it within the last hour so text her back Image

To: Dinah
Hey! You already out here? I asked Syd if you were at her dad's house down the street since Ik she was there earlier but she literally ignored me lmao. Feel free to come over if you're out here already though.

To: Tristan

Five minutes wasn't long, but to Kat, being told that she had to stay for five more minutes, nonetheless stay and resume playing, and stay after to discuss what had just happened, felt like a death sentence. She was tempted to start crying just to see if playing the victim card would get her a "get out of jail free card", and the only thing that kept her from doing it was that she hadn't been in this group for long enough to feel comfortable being that ostentatious yet. Her main goal here was just to fit in and get through the time as painlessly as possible, but today had proved to her that not one thing in her life could go smoothly. She was already sure that she was never coming back to this group again, but even staying here for another ten minutes felt like complete and utter torture. Still, she couldn't bring herself to just leave, especially after being told to stay. The thought of having to sit back down made her feel too submissive and powerless, especially when she was sure that Alaina would have something irking to say, but Kat wasn't as strong and bold as she wanted to act like she was, so after shooting a glare at the back of Anna's head once she walked off, Katherine reluctantly sat back down. "I really can't believe that you told her that I said you were bulimic," she said, in a low hiss as she bitterly restacked the remaining blocks until the tower was complete again. "You're such a tattletale. That was literally so rude and unnecessary."

"A tattletale?" Alaina cooed in mock offense after deciding against the other slew of responses going through her mind. She balled her hand into a fist and held it to her mouth, miming talking into a recorder. "Note to self: body shaming jokes in an ED treatment center is less rude and unnecessary than being called out for said joke." She leaned her cheek against her hand, the outline of a smirk on her face. Though her actions would imply otherwise, she wasn't doing all of that to get Kat to completely freak out. It was definitely an experience, but not the goal, not that there really was one. What was more surprising than the girl's outburst, to Alaina, was the fact that it was because of her. She took it as a compliment, though. It was nice to see how much weight her words carried for a person who was socially weightless. Still, she didn't push it, at least not for the time being. Kat had officially derailed, and Alaina wasn't trying to deal with any of that. "My bad, though," she said as she patted the tower so that the blocks were as even as could be. "Didn't know you were that sensitive. Thought a certain organ was required for that emotion." She wasn't nearly as annoyed with starting over as Kat was, just because she actually did like the game and wasn't as bothered by Kat as the girl was of her. She slowly pulled a side piece out and read over the question. "You should try calming down. I'm not one of your faux friends, so you don't have to worry about me telling. Probably comes as a surprise to you, but that'd actually be pretty shitty."

Kat wanted to inform Alaina that she wasn't as offended to being called out as she was to being called out in front of the person who could make her life more difficult if she wanted to. Katherine's plan for this group therapy involved her coming for a few weeks, maybe six or seven sessions, to appease her father. After that, she would insist that it wasn't helping her, that she would continue to see her psychiatrist, and that she was sticking to healthy habits enough on her own where group therapy was a waste of time. Her father was insistent on her attending group therapy right now because it had been discussed as part of her discharge plan from residential treatment. He wanted to seem like the good and involved father who was making sure that his daughter got the help she needed, but in Kat's opinion, him forcing her to do this was also his way of reminding her that he was in charge. In a few weeks, though, she was sure that he would be over it, and that his passive attitude would return where he would stop objecting to her not going after one or two tear-ridden explanations for why it was doing more harm than good. All of that would probably work if Anna didn't get involved. As long as she kept getting good reports whenever her father or psychiatrist called to confirm her progress in the group, Kat would be fine. That was why during the first class, she had played along nice and quietly with all of the activities, participating enough to make it look like she cared, but not doing it in a completely genuine fashion. Alaina was going to be the reason that that would all get screwed up, and just as much as Alaina's immediate actions were infuriating her, the knowledge of that was doing just the same.

"You better not," Kat confirmed her eyes looking from Alaina down to the block she was holding. She wanted to just cut to the chase and tell her to read it so they could get on with the stupid game, but her mouth got the best of her. "I'm sure there's some confidentiality thing that I could sue you for if you told anyone, anyway," she asserted, because when in doubt, threaten to sue. "Because even though I know you don't have any friends that matter, you probably have enough time on your hands to be the stalker freak running that Gossip Girl blog, so don't even think about writing about this there," she continued, only then pointing at the block hidden in Alaina's hand. "But let's just get on with this so I can go home. Read."

"Whats the magic word?"

"Read it."

Alaina shrugged. "Well, your counting needs work, but that's to be expected. Name the fat soluble vitamins." Without waiting for an answer, she placed the block on the top of the tower. "Let's just skip that one. Don't wanna make things too hard. We can back track and you can answer the question about the bucket list. Three things." She considered bringing up the malaria comment, but figured if a private education could fail so miserably, then even one on one assistance couldn't do much. Just seconds afterwards, she felt her butt vibrate, and like a child in class, she pulled it out, pressed it against the edge of her thigh. She smirked at the text before shaking her head.

To: Jamie
that's so sweet. she thinks i have friends. but yeah i'll text her lmao

"I doubt you could name them either," Katherine commented. She wasn't going to deny that she had absolutely no idea what the answer to that question was, or what fat soluble vitamins were purpose wise. She knew more about human biology than one would expect because of her eating disorder and the research that came with that, but most of what she knew was related to how the body worked. How to keep herself from getting lethargic and fainting, how to keep her metabolism alive... that kind of stuff. Not definition or facts like that question that Kat deemed bizarre and random for a game like this. "And I don't have a bucket list but I'll make something up so that I'm not as difficult as you are. Getting my license, joining a sorority, and getting my own apartment." Since she didn't want to hear any judgement commentary on that, she was quick to select a block from the tower. "What's the best vacation you've ever had?" In what was a random turn, mostly because with the animosity Katherine was feeling, it probably seemed unusual for her to suddenly stray into more civil, or at least personal, territory. "Are you going to your cousin's party tonight?" she asked.

It was a smart move on Kat's part to pick a block quickly and read the question. Alaina had already started fixing her mouth into something smart to say to that before she was intercepted. She was surprised by the question that followed, about the party, but didn't let that show on her face as she smoothed her eyebrows. She definitely wasn't stressing about the party tonight like a lot of her peers were. She had gotten her nails done the previous day, but she hardly counted that since it had been a girl trip with her mother and little sister. Outside of getting a new dress, and finally finishing her protective style, which wasn't even for party purposes, she hadn't done much to prepare. "When we took a family trip to Spain for three weeks. My dad surprised us, so it was pretty hectic, but it was really fun. We spent a few days in Portugal, and my sister got me super drunk, and it pissed my mom off. Super fun," she said, a genuine, reminiscent smirk hanging on her lips. She was having issues with her mom right now, but she did love being around her family. It was a big reason why she didn't want to come back home. With her older sister off to college, and her brother out of the house as well, it was just her, her baby sister, and her parents. All the space was actually suffocating. "Yeah, that was actually him just then." He was the only person in that crowd she was genuinely friends with, but she did like to joke that if she had known who his friends would turn out to be, she would have disowned them as kids. Despite the change of tone in the conversation, she did find it a peculiar question, only because she figured it was obvious. "You really think my own cousin wouldn't invite me?"

Some people might feel weird living in a house with a person they barely - if at all - interacted with, but those people weren't Dinah. She and Sydney obviously weren't meant to even really be associates; the blonde had made that much pretty clear and Dinah didn't do begging. She wasn't dependent upon her social life, didn't need validation or acknowledgement from another individual if it was not genuine. If Sydney didn't want to be bothered with her when Dinah already knew enough (or at least told herself that she did) to not want to be bothered with her, Dinah figured that that must mean that the both of them were mature enough to co-exist without it being some over-dramatic teen drama beef like on the CW or something like that. It would stand to reason that Dinah probably could have just spent the rest of her summer back in California or at least not in the Hampton home with the same girl - and imagine having to tell yourself not to feel awkward in being in the vacation home of the man who's wife and daughter your father now calls family simply because the guy decided to let them use it only for his daughter's comfort - but Dinah wasn't about to deny herself the pleasure of being near water. She was a Cali girl at heart and she wasn't disturbing anyone. She stayed in one of the guest rooms, came out for food and sun exposure, and occasionally just went out to relax.

Relaxing was the exact thing she had been doing. Strangely enough - and yes, it was strange for her because despite the money her father made, her grandmother ran that house so there were actual rules to follow - the staff had been elated to provide Dinah with a strawberry mimosa she couldn't even consider turning down and a light salad with fresh berries and grilled chicken. So, she had been eating and texting friends back in California when a notification from James appeared. Chewing her current and close to mouthful, she set the fork down and retrieved her Samsung, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. Dinah wouldn't say that she wholeheartedly supported whatever it was that Sydney and James told themselves that they had. It was obviously strained and stained with just too much foolishness on his part, and a surprising bit of lax outrage and nonchalance on her side. It just didn't work and Dinah didn't think that things that didn't work needed to be continued. It was a waste of time both emotionally and mentally, and Dinah didn't have time for things that didn't enhance her in those aspects, and especially not spiritually. But to each and their own and Dinah's job wasn't to judge nor tell someone what to do. She wasn't really that person in the first place. However, James was her friend, even being able to go so far as to say becoming a pretty good one. So, Dinah was his friend as well and friends helped friends not to be idiots. Especially since she didn't know what he wanted out of that relationship anymore.

"Are you finished here, Miss Bonds?" One of the maids whose names Dinah had just been able to remember simply because of a celebrity she had once liked, Farah, inquired and Dinah didn't even bother correcting her. The concept of having maids, even at the Manhattan home, was still a novel concept to her. Her family was wealthy, sure. But servitude when you were just capable of doing things yourself just seemed unnecessary to her. She was still experiencing that culture shock and it took the summer for her to get over the fact that this was somebody's job, and that she had to respect the fact that they wanted to do this for the benefits and the pay, and not just because richer people were just lazy sons of bitches. "Uh, yeah, thanks, Farah," she responded and slid off of the bar stool, trotting out of the bright and spacious kitchen to head back to the upstairs bedroom she was currently inhabiting. On her way, she couldn't help but text Katherine, just to see where she was and to see if she was going to James' party since Dinah was slowly learning that Katherine was definitely Sydney's number one follower. A bummer, but one she was having to come to terms with.

To: Kitten
U coming 2 James' party?

Dinah had already picked out her bikini last night; Liza, Sydney's mom, had said that it looked exceptional against her complexion when they went shopping. Liza had decided that she "needed" new clothes for her honeymoon and Dinah had been running out of her favorite eye shadow palette, so that had hit up Fifth Avenue...and then didn't leave for about five hours. It had definitely been one of Dinah's longest excursions, but she had enjoyed spending time with her stepmother. Even if her stepsister hadn't looked too impressed upon being informed of said excursion. Nevetheless, Dinah changed quickly and jogged back down the stairs, lingering by the front door for a moment before Farah spotted her again. "Do you need transportation, Miss Bonds?" Dinah blinked; she would rather her own truck, but her Dad had warned her about Manhattan weather and originally, she wasn't supposed to be in the Hamptons, so they didn't send it over. Then she cleared her throat and shrugged sheepishly with a small smile. "Yeah, anyone can take me to Airth's place?" Farah nodded. "Of course, I'll get Greg on that right away." Dinah obviously still had some adjusting to do, she figured, as she watched the blonde scurry off to accomplish that task.

The past year had been the most stressful and tumultuous time of Sydney's life. As she laid on one of the Airth's lounge chairs, taking in sun poolside, she realized just how much changed over a year. A year ago, she was doing the same thing that she was doing right now- hanging out with James at his summer home before his yacht party, but it was so different. Their relationship still wasn't perfect, but she wasn't cheating on him yet at that point. Sydney was blissfully ignorant about Katherine's eating disorder, because while she had her suspicions, she just hadn't had the time or motivation to confront her about it then. She and Alexis were still best friends, and as much as Sydney would roll her eyes at that today, and grimace at how stupid she was to not realize what trash that girl was, she missed Lexi. She didn't miss the Lexi that people thought her to be now, and Sydney wouldn't consider that part of her image being completely destroyed was due to her own smear campaign that went on after the sex tape. After that leaked, Sydney realized that it was a perfect time for her to move up and assume a position she was originally planning on tastefully waiting until Lexi graduated to take.

It was probably one of the best examples of her tendency to be as cold as ice. Alexis didn't get a single comforting text from Sydney following the incident. It was like one day they were best friends, the next day the tape was released, and following that, Sydney only had negative things to say about her. The girl's number and all social media accounts were blocked, and that was the end of that. Contrary to how that would look, it wasn't just because their friendship was completely fake to begin with. Sydney had been friends with Lexi for years, and they had true good memories together. She was one of Sydney's most trusted friends, but somehow in Sydney's mind, she was able to spin the sex tape as being a betrayal to her. Alexis had acted impulsively enough that she didn't consider the social wrath that would fall upon anyone who associated with her after it. She put Sydney in a compromising place, and it was an act of selfishness that Sydney later rationalized as being a perfect reflection of who Alexis truly was. She was selfish, fake and unfit to represent the girls of Constance who actually possessed class - something that must have been a foreign concept to Alexis. Sydney told herself that she must have been brainwashed into liking Alexis, just following what everyone else thought of her, and that it was finally time to break free of that and act entirely on her own accord. She was a leader by nature, and she wasn't going to let some ex-friend who was ridden with scandal oppress that anymore. Sydney knew that that meant she would lose Alexis as a friend, but at that point, she didn't care. She already wanted people to stop associating with her now that Alexis had a scandal on her hand.

The thing about Sydney was that she was very good at acting unbothered and emotionless on the surface. Being able to control your emotions so fully was a weapon in itself, because even people who were superb at reading others failed when it came to her. It allowed her to remain in control even when all she wanted to do was burst out crying, claw someone's eyes out, or jump for joy and express how much someone meant to her. As long as no one knew that she had a heart, no one could break it. It seemed like a logical enough plan. There were people who knew a softer Sydney. Alexis had been one of them. Kat knew that side of her too, and even the boy who grabbed her ass so brazenly as she drifted in and out of a peaceful nap while sunbathing knew that Sydney. With how immature and typical boy-ish he could be by that act, Sydney sometimes wondered why she ever gave him the time of day, but then again, she knew a side of James that many people didn't get to see either. "You're so annoying," she groaned half-heartedly, and mostly only because the grab had startled her more than anything. She was laying face down to get the back side of her some color, and had taken off her bikini top to avoid any unnecessary tanning lines. Even though she knew James' parents weren't home, she didn't feel comfortable walking around topless or even sitting up partially, without grabbing her chest to give herself some sense of modesty. "Water with lemon, please," she requested, watching him walk to the house before returning to lay down. Since her sleep had been disturbed, she figured that now was as good of a time as any to answer the many texts she had gotten over the past few minutes. Most of them were met with uninterested and short responses, but a few, like ones requesting outfit advice from closer friends, received more attention. She was surprised when she saw that Katherine hadn't reached out to her today, especially since she expected the Arnault to be just a short drive away already, at her own summer house.

To: Katherine
Are you out here yet?

Unlike a number of his classmates, friends and associates, Tristan didn't have the luxury of just being able to enjoy his summer in whatever way that he wanted to. He probably wouldn't have been able to do much in the first place, regardless since neither of his parents had been able to take off of work for them to have much of a vacation, but he definitely hadn't been able to just sit back and relax all summer. Every summer and during weekend shifts if he had the time, he worked at a Publix supermarket in Downtown Brooklyn. He probably could have done a lot more; it was something his mother always pointed out. He could probably charge the rich students at St. Jude's or even at Constance for his tutoring services since they more than likely could afford it as opposed to just being given such services for free. But life was life and he appreciated having a job he always knew he could depend upon, especially one with decent benefits like with Publix. At least he could trust, if God forbid he didn't get the scholarships he would need for college, them to help out when it was time for him to go off to school. It also worked in his favor that one of the general managers lived a few houses down from him and could give him rides home when his shifts ran a little late on non-school weeks.

By the time Tristan had gotten James' text, he was ending his eight forty-five to one forty-five shift. It wasn't as long as he liked, especially considering the pay, but it was satisfactory enough. Especially pay day had been yesterday, which meant that he currently didn't feel poor. It was easy to walk around not feeling the weight of how much more wealthier his classmates were than him by projecting the same dignified air that they did; it was invigorating to actually feel like he had something, even if it was nowhere near the magnitude of their parents' bank accounts. And to be able to say that, unlike his peers, Tristan made his own money and didn't exactly have to always answer about what he spent it on was the greatest feeling. He changed out of his work uniform and into some casual clothes, sliding his shades before whipping his phone back out to text James back, lingering on the message from Gossip Girl.

To: James
Just dont forget who got laid dat nite Image also when u gonna introduce me 2 da new gurl?? Cuz GG got pics of her n i'll smash if u dont

While there were a lot of people who were tired of Gossip Girl's antics, what Tristan wouldn't do was lie and say that he wasn't intrigued by the page, the information it provided, and also the situations its content always grudged up. Even if the drama the posts alluded to weren't exactly as big as GG wanted everyone to believe, it never failed that someone made their situation worse, which meant a cat-fight or more rumors. And far more entertainment for Tristan than he sometimes knew what to do with. The kids that he rolled with - the ones he sat in classes with or in that one favorite lunch spot during the school year that you could always catch a St. Jude and a Constance kid at - could all pretend that their prestige and wealth shielded them from any and everything, even their own antics. Yet, somehow or another, they allowed themselves to be toyed with by an anonymous writer who just knew them. Knew their lovers and real friends, their fake friends and addictions - just knew everything. And it was invigorating for Tristan, realizing that there was so much dirt to be found out. It made him feel less inferior, like they were definitely more like him and any other regular kid on the street than they probably would want. So, he had no shame in checking Gossip Girl every day and laughing to himself about what was written for that day. Chuckling lightly, Tristan was about to tuck his phone away when his stomach grumbled, so he figured he could grab an actual bite to eat since he didn't need to be worried about James' party just yet. And he could always hit up a late lunch with friends, particularly Jax who he didn't hesitate to text. Besides, who turned down Johnny's Pizzeria?

James received answers to his text messages pretty quickly, and he sent back responses as he retrieved a water bottle for himself, before filling a glass with ice water and a lemon for Sydney.

To: Tristan
She'll be at the party tonight. I'm not looking to hookup with anyone other than Syd lol so go for it

His response to Tristan was easy. He didn't know Dinah that well where he felt like he needed to be introducing her to everyone that he knew. It would have been one thing if they were friendly and she wasn't related to Sydney, or if they were friendly and she was still related to Sydney, but got along with Sydney. Then, it would have been easier for him to integrate her into her social circle and welcome her into the scene. That wasn't the case though, and right now, he really wanted this relationship to work with Sydney. She had her flaws, but she was still the most coveted girl in school. She was beautiful, smart, and his family liked her. He could overlook those flaws for the rest of the year, because once school ended, he knew that it was a given that they would part ways. All he had to do was keep up the relationship image for the rest of the year, and he would be good. Besides, it wasn't like he was doing it for just the image. He and Sydney did have something real there. There was a spark. It just... sometimes they brought out the worst in each other. Jameson knew that acting too chummy with Dinah would bring him nothing but trouble, so while he was content with pushing his limits to a point where the two would become friends this year, he also wasn't going to go above and beyond. That was why after reading Dinah's text message, he regretted inviting her over. Call it the thoughtless tendencies of a teenage boy, but he hadn't considered that Sydney wouldn't be happy with him for including Dinah. If Dinah was warning him against talking about her around Sydney, then he knew that inviting her over would only be trouble. Trouble he didn't need to deal with hours before his party.

To: Dinah
If you think Syd will be mad then let's rain check hanging out. I didn't realize you guys still aren't in a good place and don't want any unnecessary drama lol. Alaina's coming over before the party if you wanna come over then when it'll be less awkward and tense

It would be when Greg had already pulled out from the driveway and Dinah was comfortably lounging in the back of the vehicle that James would text her back, and she didn't feel the need to fight the eye roll that came upon reading the message. It was a touch too late for him to tell her not to show up. Mostly because no, she was not about to retreat back to her bedroom until it felt "safe" for her emerge. She was growing intolerant of that now that the summer was almost over. It wasn't her fault that Sydney had an issue with her. It wasn't like Dinah asked to randomly have the girl's boyfriend contact her out of left field. Could Dinah have chosen to keep him deleted from her contacts? Yeah, but he seemed like a cool guy at the time, not a complete and utter fuckboy. Definitely a fuckboy to some degree, but Dinah had pardoned some before - hell, some have even been considered some of her close friends and a part of her main crew back in Los Angeles. So, she couldn't' exactly fault him for his drunken behavior and declare that all communication should be muted. Nevertheless, she didn't ask for Sydney's disdain. She didn't ask for a sister or even another mother. She didn't ask for a new friend. Shit just happened. Now, was she trying to stir up more shit? Not at all, which was why she found herself having to caution James when it seemed like he was being too careless. Dinah knew what she would want from a guy and being asked about a girl who obviously made her uncomfortable when said girl was around her boyfriend, especially since he had never mentioned knowing her before, was beyond uncomfortable. So, she was going to help him out if she could. That didn't mean she felt like being somebody's dirty secret. Plus, James said he was down the street as if they were in walking distance and not as if this drive wouldn't make Dinah mad if she had honestly tried walking it. So, she wound up texting him, and then Alaina because the girl's opinion on her cousin always amused Dinah, even though she could tell that there was love there.

To: James
Dude srsly?? Image its 2 l8 4 dat n im almost there. is she there?? Cuz i kno u gotta have a game room or sumthing.

To: Alaina
Y is ur cuzzin like dis?? Plz tell me u can come 2 his place a lil earlier? i need 2 be saved plz

It was only after her text to Alaina was delivered that Dinah received the notification about Valentino's text, which made a small smile form on her face. Dinah couldn't say something as cliche as Valentino not being like a lot of the guys she both hung with and had been involved with, but he had a maturity about him that Dinah honestly did prefer in her circle. Now, a part of that might have more to do with the fact that he had a kid with him when they met, but in all honesty, Dinah hadn't hesitated in asking for his number that day in the park. She hadn't meant it lasciviously or anything like that; she had just really liked his vibe. The cute little girl and the fact that he himself had been really cute with her may or may not have aided in getting Dinah just a touch more interested in getting to know him. Besides, New York was going to be a permanent residence and though Dinah could tell herself day in and day out that she didn't depend exclusively on social interactions and developing interpersonal relationships, she did need them, to some extent.

To: Valentino
actually omw 2 his southhampton place now 2 chill. care 2 keep us company??

ALAINA || CLARKE
Location: Group Therapy | Manhattan, NY
Dialogue Color: #91395f
Outfit: Here
Alaina had checked out of the discussion, evident by her wondering eyes. Before she got the chance to think and answer the question that she already wasn't paying attention to, Anna's sing-songy voice rang through the room. Surprisingly, the woman was short with her departing speech, the shuffle of bodies and bags erupting shyly from the tables as people gathered themselves and their things. While Alaina didn't care about staying after since she wasn't in any real hurry, she wasn't pressed to stay either. She purposely ignored Anna's stare on the two of them, but glanced over when she saw another participant distract the director. She briefly caught sight of Anna's widened, gleefully surprised eyes as the girl began talking to her. Alaina looked back at Kat, perking her brows briefly, her smirk mischievous. With a final two-finger salute, she slipped through the door, phone in hand as it vibrated for what felt like the umpteenth time. The most recent one being from her mother, letting her know that they were outside. Her mother had a tendency of saying she was outside when she was really five minutes away, so it was a pleasant surprise to see the white car just outside the center. And had she had any doubts about if the car was her mom's or not, the small pair of frantically waving hands from the backseat would have eradicated them all. In a near direct contrast with her behavior inside, her lips spread into a wide, goofy smile as she waved back at her sister just as crazily. Alaina squishes her face against the back window, immediately making Izzy giggle, and just as quickly hearing about it from her mom.

"How many times do I have to tell you to stop doing that?"

Alaina leaned between the two front seats as she buckled in, ignoring her mom. "Hi, chicken," she said, Izzy clucking in her customary response. Before she was able to fully enjoy the moment when her sister, her mom went into what she liked to call Survivor Mode, where the woman would turn something fun into a list of chores. Alaina slipped one ear bud as she half listened, picking up some arbitrary reminders such as showering, and thanking her aunt for taking her. She was good for making parties seem like a task. Whenever she did this, she had a hard time fathoming all the stories her dad told her about how her mother was quite like Alaina at her age. She was fun and sociable. Glancing at the woman now, she couldn't help but think what happened? "I'm listening," she said when she felt her mother watching her. Reading through her texts, she saw Tino's and attempted to think of the last time they saw each other. It took an uncharacteristic length of time, which was really only about a few seconds, but that was enough to prove his point. She knew it had to have been before she left for the beach, which meant around the beginning of the summer. It was a frustrating fact, but she figured that tonight would be the perfect way to catch up for lost time, at least some of it. She was typically open with him about a lot, but she didn't mention her going to group therapy, and didn't plan on it. The lack of transparency felt weird coming from her finger tips, since he was one of the few people she could really vent to, but it would have been a bit of an abrupt shock to say 'hey! it's been forever. just got out of therapy for my eating disorder, ttyl!' And then knowing Tino and how he was much more lax with the party scene, at least compared to his old habits, get shitfaced would prove all the more difficult.

To: Tinooo
in the car with my nagging mother. & i plan on making up for lost time and getting dangerously drunk with you :))))

She added the exaggerated smiley in place of a question mark, because she was half serious, only because she knew what the answer was, but figured it was worth a shot. It was no secret Alaina prided herself on being her own person, and as such, she appreciated people like that as well. So she respected Tino's transformation, because she could see it objectively and why it was good for him, but she also enjoyed the fact that it was a separation from the status quo. Still, though, Alaina wasn't so caught up on being unlike everyone else that she confined herself. Like a lot of her peers, she enjoyed going to parties and getting drunk. She wasn't caught up in getting into every single party, since it wasn't that deep to her and it sounded more like a task or a business strategy than what it really should be, which was fun. As with many things, going to parties and getting drunk were a lot more fun when you were sharing the thrill and experience with your friends. And while Alaina wasn't one to stop and persuade people to be just like her (at least not so directly), when it came to this, she broke her own habit. It was hard to really enjoy yourself when the point was to let loose, and your friend was next to see you not doing the same. Being irresponsible around a responsible person kind of ruined the whole irresponsible aspect. She wasn't banking on him getting as drunk as she planned to, but with it being a minute since seeing each other, as well as it being the first party of the year, she at least hoped she could get him to being a little tipsier than he normal got.

To: Tinooo
don't freak out, i'm only kidding (sort of). you're taking at least one shot with me

Reading Dinah's text brought a confused grin to her cheeks. She shook her head, electing to text James first. She didn't know Dinah that well, especially since she only met the girl through her cousin and had yet to get to know her as well as Gossip Girl claimed. She planned on seeing her around school more, and she was excited about that aspect because another brown face in a predominately white space was always welcomed. That being said, Alaina didn't think anything of the girl's friendliness. Some people, in the beginning of relationships, were usually quite shy and cautious with their words, but for her personally, that was a waste of energy. Still, she couldn't help but wonder what had happened down there that would require her.

To: Jamie
lmao you need supervision. what did you do to do dinah?

She wasn't just trying to prove a point with Kat back there, she really was taking her time. She still needed to get a few things from her place, something that her mom chastised for since Alaina could have done all of that this morning, but chose not to. She of course had to be ready in enough to time to fly in with her aunt, but she was really doing the bare minimum. She didn't have any pre-party rituals or anything of the nature. It was probably also because it was her cousin's party that she was more relaxed about it since it inherently felt less formal. Alaina didn't like being on other people's time; she enjoyed her independence, but her parents were careful with how much to delegate. She would have been fine with training to the Hamptons, but her parents refused to do that, just as her aunt insisted she not take a car all the way out there. Not that her family would ever get a helicopter for her to go there, or anywhere for that matter, they still had their uppity ways about them, although Alaina couldn't see the protective nature of them not wanting to send their sixteen year old daughter two hours out by herself.

To: Dinah

All he wanted to do was relax before his party! He wasn't as stressed for that as he could have been anyway, and he couldn't really even feign stress given that his mother was handling all of the pre-party worries, but that didn't mean that hosting wasn't going to be a job in itself. Even if he planned on having a lot of fun tonight, he still had to be somewhat aware, as to make sure that nothing too crazy occurred when it was a party representing him. He couldn't be in a completely carefree mood like the rest of his party-goers could, so he felt like he did deserve a little bit more time today to get in the mood for that. Hanging out poolside, in the relaxing silence that he and Sydney had grown comfortable with, was all he wanted. In an hour or so, he was planning on going inside and showering and getting ready before some of the pre-game antics began, but he wanted this hour of relaxation. Originally, he thought that Dinah could aid in that, since she was chill. From what James knew of her, she didn't seem like the type to attract drama, so the idea of her joining them rather than sitting at Sydney's alone seemed like something that would benefit everyone.

He stupidly didn't consider how that would bother Sydney, and even though he knew that part of the disdain between the stepsisters probably stemmed from pettiness, it wasn't like place to judge. He had messed up before by cheating on Sydney with her best friend, and he had confessed to that even though he didn't and still doesn't know that Sydney had cheated as well. Regardless though, if he cheated on her with her best friend, could he really blame her for being skeptical of him growing close to another person who had a close relationship with her? Especially when he had known Dinah without Sydney's involvement. It looked sketchy and James was aware of that. That didn't mean that he was willing to completely reject Dinah as a friend, because he had a backbone and morals, and more than that, he liked Dinah. He really did. She was real and that was a breath of fresh air in Manhattan. At the same time, he also wasn't going to neglect his relationship with Sydney just to nurture that friendship. There had to be a balance somewhere there and clearly, James had not found it yet.

Since his family didn't live full time in their Hamptons house, they weren't like many of their neighbors who felt it necessary to hire full time house staff to keep up with the house. His father, especially, disliked the idea of strangers being in his home at every moment, and for that reason, they had housekeepers who came a few times a week to take care of most of the housework, and landscapers who came weekly, but that was about it, aside from staff they would sometimes take on when they had lots of guests over. Simple wasn't a word that could truly be used to describe the Airth's, but they weren't helpless enough to feel like they couldn't pour themselves a glass of water or cook dinner. However, since tonight was an event in itself in his mother's eyes, even though it wasn't actually being hosted at the house, there were a few housekeepers currently in the home finishing up a few hours worth of chores. He didn't know any of their names, since they were hired from an outside company and they seemed to rotate every time they came, but James still tried to be as polite to them as possible. As his dad had once warned him at a hotel, if he wasn't, there was always a chance that they would clean the toilet with his toothbrush and he would never know. When one of them entered the kitchen, that was when he decided not to even answer Dinah's text about already being on her way. "Hey, uh, I know it's not your job anyway, but if anyone tries to be buzzed into the gate, could you make sure that you and none of the others open it? I'm not allowed to have friends over right now," he said to the woman. It was absolutely, positively wrong of him to decide that the only way out of this awkward situation was to ghost Dinah, pretend he had never seen her text and that his phone died, and just not let her car past the gate when it pulled up, but James didn't think he had any other choice, so he powered off his phone, left it on the kitchen counter, and headed outside with the drinks for himself and Sydney. He didn't even answer Alaina, because while he knew she wouldn't rat him out, and could possibly deter Dinah from coming by telling her it was a bad idea, he knew that Alaina would have something smart to say about him getting into this position to begin with.

"Miss me?" he said with a grin as he placed the glasses down on the table between their chairs. Somewhat hoping that Sydney would suggest inviting her over herself, since James was already feeling horribly guilty (though in a terribly weird position where he was damned if he did, and damned if he didn't), he continued with. "I know that I might have to file a domestic violence claim after asking this, but is Dinah at your place alone, or are your parents out here too? " Opting to play things a bit safer, he added, "My mom should be here in a little while, so once we leave, I'm sure she's gonna want someone to hang out with since my dad's out of town."

His summer may have been more eventful than most, but not eventful enough. Not for Jaxon Heize, who thrived on having so much to do he can hardly breathe. Mr. Busy body was not quite as busy as previous summers and it made him restless. Sure, he kept up his usual schedule booze and sex, but what else was there? It was dramatically boring to say the least, but what summer wouldn't be after what had happened the one before? Of which the aftermath is still lurking around. And with the return of Gossip Girl, it was much too easy for his name to boomerang from mouth to mouth. It might as well have been up on Billboards, written in shimmery lights and all it's glamour, because as much as people pretended not to care nor believe what the notorious Gossip Girl said, they sure as hell knew things down to the very detail. Jaxon, on the other hand, knew what he was involved in and nothing more, nor did he ever care to know about other people's petty dilemmas. Yet someone, and ironically enough, someone always managed to involve him. Because really, who else could they put the shame on other than the shameless?

Which is why when he was so rudely accused of releasing the sex tape with miss Alexis ex-royalty Leon, he hadn't even bothered to defend himself. What for? If there is one thing Jaxon Heize has always been known for is doing as he pleases, when he pleases, simply because it pleases him. He wasn't going to apologize for that. Had he enjoyed sleeping with Alexis? Well, let's just say he'd be a fat ass liar if he said he hadn't. SHould he have slept with her? No, probably not. Especially considering her history with his former friend, who was now blocking him out entirely based on his own twisted perception of what happened. It didn't matter that Jaxon hadn't been the one to release the recordings of their one nigh stand, because everyone and their mamas were convinced that he did and who's to try and convince them otherwise. You know what they say; If life gives you lemons, grab some tequila and salt.

After a while, most either moved on to something bigger and better or simply lost interest, looking for new and fresh gossip. But some, not to state names but a certain ex-royalty and a grudge-holding teen dad, made it quite clear that they hadn't moved on. Unlike Jaxon, who really let bygones be bygones in order to have a good rest of the summer. He fully intended on going to James' annual yacht party later tonight, complete with pregame and all the works. Unlike Valentino, James still acknowledged Jaxon's existence. "Alright, I think she's good to go!" the blonde announced, pushing himself from underneath the 1972 Mercedes Benz he'd been working on for over an hour now. An old piece of junk, but still salvageable. He tapped the faded red paint of the hood a few times and watched with a proud smirk as his boss Mark started the engine, bringing the lifeless pile of metal back to life. "A real miracle." the older man clapped as he stepped out of the vintage vehicle. Jaxon exhaled a chuckle. "It's called skill, last I checked." Jax has always loved mechanics, with cars especially. Second to music, it's his favorite pastime. That's really all this job is, anyway. It's not like he needs the money, but it keeps him busy and useful.

"Alright, alright. Don't get too cocky now." Mark warned before sending him home for the day. Not that he planned on being home for long, possibly only long enough to figure out where to next. Given he didn't find something on his way there, which he did. Or rather, the something found him. His bright blues scanned over Tristan's message, barely reading the words before typing out a response.

"She's there alone," Sydney responded curtly, as she took a sip of her water. The voice inside of her head rang out, questioning why it mattered, but it was a rhetorical question that she knew the answer to. She knew that Dinah being alone in the house mattered on a level of standard compassion, because with Dinah being new to New York, she didn't have many connections. No one wanted to feel alone and left out, and being her stepsister now, it was obligatory and expected that Sydney would make an effort to ease her transition into this new life. Leaving your life and everything you knew to move to the opposite side of the country was a hard adjustment in itself (and one that Sydney would have laughed out loud at if her mother had dared to propose that they move to California), but moving into Manhattan, and the private school social scene was on an entirely different level of adjustments. Dinah came from enough money too, and Sydney didn't doubt that the school she attended in California was prestigious, but it was hard to compare any lifestyle to the one lived by Manhattan's elite. It had to have been (or would be, if Dinah didn't realize it yet) at least a little bit of a culture shock. Sydney's status in the social world Dinah was entering could have made the transition ten times easier for her, but in Sydney's mind, the girl hadn't played her cards right.

Admittedly (or maybe not so much), Sydney also hadn't been entirely welcoming or accommodating. She had kept the pleasantries at the bare minimum, and opted for the mantra that if Dinah didn't bother her, she wouldn't bother her in return. At the same time, that meant that she wasn't going to go out of her way to be nice to her. A lot of it didn't even have to deal with Dinah personally. It was just that she happened to be unlucky enough to come into Sydney's life at a bad time. Jameson cheating on her, the divorce, and her falling out with Alexis had all occurred within the months prior to Dinah coming to New York, so Sydney was at a point where she was on the offensive more than the defensive out of a self-preservation type of survival mode. Then again, Dinah had not helped herself at all by pursuing the friendship with James that oh-so-easily could have and should have been left in California. Yes, Sydney was aware of the DM that James sent her, and yes, it was mortifying. The fact that Jameson had cheated on her with Alexis and another girl was something that had been kept from public knowledge, but it worried Sydney quite often that that DM to Dinah wasn't the only one sent out to other girls during their relationship. Their was a little bit of blissful ignorance in not knowing, so when she found out that her stepsister, of all people, knew that her perfect relationship with Jameson wasn't as perfect as it was chalked up to be, it was definitely a hit to Sydney's ego. Image meant everything to her. She believed that a reputation could make or break a person, and she disliked the idea that Dinah already had something to judge her about, when she didn't have something as juicy on her.

She was tempted to leave it at that, but the pettier side of her made it easier to continue speaking. "After your wife cheats on you and divorces you for that same man who she'll go on to marry a few months later, inviting her and that man to spend time at the house that you walked out of the divorce with probably isn't high up on your to-do list." It was her way of telling James that his question was idiotic, and additionally, a way of reminding him that Dinah was just as unwanted as her father and Sydney's mother were. She wasn't taking her father's side in the divorce, because Sydney was well aware of her father being unfaithful too. Both of her parents were immoral, but in her twisted perception of what was right and wrong, her father was more in the right because he had cheated in a way that was private enough that the world didn't know. He maintained their family's image, and kept it on the down-low so everything still looked fine on the outside. Their mother hadn't, and that in itself felt like a form of betrayal to not only her father, but to Sydney too. She was definitely bitter about that, and her relationship with her mother showed that to this day. Her mother was just lucky that her father was trying to be civil enough for Sydney, that he was agreeing to things that he (and Sydney, too) knew were the most morally suitable options - like insisting that Dinah treat their home in the Hamptons as hers, even if the same invitation wouldn't be extended to his ex-wife and her new husband.

"Or maybe she's not alone anymore. It seems like her DMs are hot-spot. Maybe she finally decided to take some guy up on his request for a quickie. She's out of her California element, so maybe she's more desperate than she was when you got shut down."

To: James
Rlly?? Dude did u leave or sumthing??

It wouldn't have occurred to Dinah that James was actually still in the house and just refusing to have her inside. She wasn't aware that he was that shitty just yet, just absentminded and careless. It would make sense to her brain that perhaps he wasn't there, which was why the guard said no one was allowed to be buzzed in, and not because James was actually inside with Sydney, and didn't want to have his girlfriend go off on him. He hadn't read her first message from what she could see, so Dinah had nothing else to go off of in this situation. It didn't, however, not make something drop in the pit of her stomach, an uneasiness that had her not responding to Alaina in the way that she would have prior to the current series of events.

To: Alaina

Dinah wasn't what one would call a particularly emotional person and something like this was not bound, in any way, to make her cry. But it was a stark reminder that this wasn't her home, her people, and these were not her friends. She already had known that, but severity of that knowledge had only slowly begun to permeate her consciousness. She wasn't an overly self-conscious person. Dinah didn't spend her life faltering in her steps nor being weighed down by what she called unnecessary insecurities. There wasn't going to be another person who looked exactly like her, so why be ashamed of her darker complexion and natural hair? Or even not being as skinny as some of her other friends have been? But all of those were superficial insecurities she learned to shove away. This was new. This was a sense of belonging and she hadn't fully gotten that since being in New York. New York had just been an interesting place to visit whenever her father brought her along or her grandmother decided she wanted to see snow in a different place than on the West Coast. New York had always been a stop on the map, but never a permanent location...until now. And it wasn't Dinah's location. And she hadn't been confronted with that fact so much as she had been in this one moment where someone she thought was a friend dissed her. She didn't know for a fact that James had just dissed her, but it felt like it.

But again, Dinah wasn't an overly emotional person. Even though she felt the random, sharp sting at the back of her eyes, she released a heavy breath and shrugged to Greg in a what-can-you-do-manner. Besides, the situation was a reminder that she need not "Guess I'm shit outta luck," she shrugged, not really expecting an answer. The older guy, more than likely in his early thirties, gave her an apologetic and patient look. He was nice and he hadn't even been in Dinah's presence for too long for her to know it, but she felt it in his kind blue gaze. "So, what do you want to do, Miss Irving?" Dinah quirked her lips in consideration, phone already having notified her of Kat's text while she was looking up shops nearby to entertain herself with. "Cold Stones?" Greg's answering grin made Dinah smile just as brightly.

As soon as he had sent his text out to Jaxon, Tristan was already summoning an Uber. He knew that the bus or train could have aided in his travels, but there was something about waiting for them - especially since he didn't feel like being disappointed by the online schedule at that particular moment - when he was already hungry that didn't sit right with him. Besides, as he had figured it would be, it wasn't time for surge pricing just yet, so he was willing to pay the four dollars and fifty five cents to get to Johnny's. Johnny's was worth it anyway and he probably would've went even if Jax hadn't agreed to be down for the cause. It just so happened that the blonde was and who was Tristan to not want some company while he chowed down on some mozzarella sticks?

To: Jax
C u soon

On the way, Tristan laughed to himself about James' current desire to be the good guy. It was honestly laughable. As a person already filed under the category of shitty guys that girls still wanted to get with despite knowing that they were shitty, James was higher up on the list than he obviously wanted to believe or acknowledge. The dude could still get some ass, that much was certain. Regardless of how much they wanted to be mad about being used and all that, the same girls who would whine to their crew one day were the same ones thirsting after the exact same kind of guys that hurt them before, knowing damn well the guys were drawn to formulating friendships with one another for a reason. Shittiness attracts/begets/whatever-word-you-wanna-use shittiness, that was how Tristan rationalized it. So, it was laughable that James could honestly tell himself that he was all for Sydney now after the shit they had been through. Tristan was a lot of things, but the one thing he had never been was the person who had cheated on someone. Granted, his only real relationship had been with Alexis, but it had never occurred to him to step out on someone. He might currently be one of the guys girls were convinced that they could step out on their significant others with, but he didn't do the cheating, mostly because he didn't delude himself into thinking that he was for relationships at the moment. Tristan honestly saw it all crashing and burning for James in the future when it came to Sydney. But he was going to take this "permission" to go after Dinah as what it was. Eventually, Tristan had arrived at Johnny's and got a table by the window, not even hesitating to go ahead and order himself both french fries and mozzarella sticks, and a Sprite.

Okay, so lovelies, the reason that I absolutely love yacht parties isn't even the opulence of the ships. It's not the margaritas, though I will tell you that these apple margaritas are literally to die for!! What I love so much is that there's literally no place to run. On land, you always have the option of leaving. You're upset? Someone stepped on your Jimmy Choos? You found out that Ashley has totally been making out with Jake behind your back even though she swore that she didn't because she knew you were just waiting on making your move on him? You get to leave. You get to about face and run all the way home to mommy and daddy, and cry into your Egyptian cotton and wait for the next day to pretend like nothing had ever happened. Your reputation remains pristine. With yacht parties, as fun as they are, the drama is even more fun because you have nowhere to go. Oh, you can go on another part of the ship. You can even hope and pray that one of the state rooms are still available so you can blow off some steam. But at the end of the day, more than likely, they're not available and like or not, the person you don't like is going to be in the same vicinity as you. And I am forever living for the insurmountable possibilities that situations like these can bring!

Nevertheless, it's been about an hour or so since the good charmer Jim Jam - come on, you all were thinking it too - had us all set sail and I don't know guys...the party's great and all, but don't things feel a bit...tense? Maybe because the good sis Alexis Leon surprised everyone by showing up tonight and looking mighty fine. One might even say she makes for a better blonde than Queen S...of course, one would say that if they weren't deathly afraid of getting their eyes scratched out. Then again, I'm pretty sure the host isn't having too good of a day either. I mean, I know it's not a big deal cuz she's new and not really as important because she hasn't really done anything - and I'm in serious need of the entertainment if she's gonna do something - but new girl definitely swerved him. That's the word, right? I'm not exactly hip to all this young people linguo. But anyway, that definitely happened and it might not seem like much, but not many girls - or any, to be quite honest - swerve the good charmer. And I'm sorry, but if I see a girl put her finger up at him of all guys so that he can't say a word, and then proceed to walk away without giving him the time of day. And go out on the dance floor and dance with - out of everyone - the player?? I'm of the right mind to speculate that something juicy's probably gonna pop off. Maybe she got tired of playing the other woman?? I'm also not so sure, but I honestly could've sworn I saw Alaina and Katherine coming out of a building in Manhattan together earlier today. Is the old queen's return the only thing the new queen's gotta worry about? Cuz I spy with my little eye a possible new bestie for baby Arnault. But I could be wrong...we'll just have to see.

If you asked James, the party was going perfectly well. It had only just started an hour or so ago, so maybe that was why, but things were going smoothly. The boat they had chartered for the night was gorgeous and exquisite, and his mother had done a superb job at capturing an elegant and sophisticated, yet fun, atmosphere on board with all of her planning. If you asked James about the incident that had been referenced in the latest Gossip Girl post, he would have laughed and brushed it off as nothing. Because to him, it was nothing. It was nothing serious in terms of a hit to his reputation, at least. He would have been lying to claim that the incident meant nothing to him, but it didn't mean anything in the way that the writer of the post wanted people to think it was. Though the anonymous author had gotten the part about Dinah refusing to talk to him right, he didn't feel like he had been rejected. He wasn't going over to her to talk about the incident from earlier that day, because if anything, part of him still felt like she was in the wrong for actually showing up to his house. He had invited her over initially, because he wanted to hang out with her, and he hadn't fully thought through how Sydney wouldn't be happy with that. When Dinah reminded him of that, he felt like he had -in the most polite way possible- backtracked on his initial invitation only to avoid drama. He wasn't retracting his invitation to Dinah because he didn't want to hang out with her, but because she had reminded him that it wasn't a good idea. He saved himself from having drama with Sydney, he saved Dinah and Sydney from having drama with each other, and he saved the three of them from having an awkwardly miserable afternoon, because anyone who knew Sydney knew that she wasn't just going to go with the flow and try to have fun with Dinah if she felt like it was inappropriate for her to be there.

James felt bad that he had to un-invite Dinah, he wouldn't deny that, but because of the reasons behind it, he felt like she, of all people, should have understood. In fact, he felt like she shouldn't have even put him in that situation to begin with, once he made it clear that Sydney was there. She knew how her dynamics were with Sydney better than anyone else, so why would she insist on still coming to his house when he made it clear that he wasn't comfortable being put in the middle of their drama, that he had initially downplayed in his head, and when it was barely a ten minute drive back to Sydney's house, so turning around halfway there wasn't a big deal at all. If anyone was careless and thoughtless regarding the situation by the end of it, it was Dinah, so when James approached her to compliment on her outfit, he was doing so in the mindset that he was being the bigger person. She barely knew anyone at the party, and though she was friendly, it still showed in an environment where cliques ruled the scene, even at parties like this where people from different cliques definitely intermingled. He didn't want her to feel like she had one less friend there, especially when he was hosting and wanted to be a proper, friendly host, so he approached her with the intent of complimenting her outfit, offering to introduce her to some of his friends, and if it came up, insisting that earlier's events weren't a big deal. He didn't think that she would truly feel offended over it, and nonetheless act that way in front of people. It was awkward, but he felt like it was more awkward for her than it was for him. He was the host here, taking up that "big man on campus" role for the night. He had friends, and an established spot near the top of the social ladder, so having some new girl that barely anyone know act bitter towards him didn't really due much to make him feel affected in any sort of way. Instead, he felt like it made her look unapproachable and dramatic. Maybe it was just a way for his mind to alleviate any extra guilt from his conscience regarding the incident, or maybe it was his ego speaking, assuring himself that he was untouchable socially, but regardless, it was what he told himself to further insist that she was just being dramatic and victimizing herself over it. He definitely wasn't going to let it ruin his night. If he wanted to think any more on it, he told himself that he could do it tomorrow when he was reeling from the hangover that the second rum & Coke he had just been served on the ship was paving the way for.

He was taking a break from being very social for the moment, as he had found Sydney and then found seats at the bar for the two of them. After a long sip of his drink, he set the glass down and looked over at her with a smile, his eyes scanning over her face (and maybe for a split second, down to her chest too...), before saying, "God, have I told you how amazing you look tonight? There's no one else that I'd rather be spending the night with tonight than you, and I know it's cheesy to say, but I kind of wish it was just me and you here tonight." Maybe it was cheesy, but it was a cute and sweet kind of cheesy. James definitely had his moments of being a complete douche bag. He wouldn't even deny that, and maybe his thoughts on the Dinah situation reflected that better than anything else tonight, but they didn't call him "the charmer" for nothing.
