∞ This is my life: Janus has existed since the beginning of the world, although she has mostly refrained from intervening in the affairs of Humans, instead either wandering through their world idly, or sleeping throughout the years, too tired to bring herself to do much of anything, instead allowing various Humans to wield her powers and perform her duties. The first of whom was a Human man who took on her own name, and ended up becoming revered as the Roman God of Beginnings thanks to his usage of half of her powers to usher in the New Year, and the rest following in a similar manner. This trend continued for quite some time, with Janus herself sleeping beneath the ground while her contracted carried out her duties. However, things became very troublesome when her partner was slain, and her dreams became tainted by nightmares and agony, forcing her to awaken and either carry out her duties herself, or find a new partner. As she is unable to return to her former state of hibernation, she now has no choice but to resolve things.
∞ Sometimes I act like this: Bizarre, capricious, and incredibly lazy, Janus' favorite pasttime is sleeping and letting pretty much anybody else worry about doing her job for her. After a few hundred years spent dwelling amongst the growing civilization of Humans, she grew bored of life and decided to escape it into the world of dreams, taking an almost endless nap from which she has now only reluctantly been awakened. Her boundless capacity for laziness is matched only by her endless curiosity at seeing the world so changed. She now wishes to find out the nature of everything she can, experience everything new that she can, and then go take another nap until something new and interesting happens. This makes her usual demeanor quiet and yet simmering with excitement beneath her calm exterior.
In actuality, however, Janus is a rather pitiful spirit. Concealing her true feelings with her alternatively manic and then lazy persona, she really wants nothing more than to be left alone for the rest of her endless life. She hates solitude, to be honest - there's nothing interesting about it at all - but after living amongst Humans and growing attached to mortals, only to have them die before her ageless eyes, she can't bear the sadness of loss, and so hopes instead to isolate herself by sleeping through time, so as to never have to deal with that emotion again. While she might give those she cares about endless time like herself using her powers, to her, this would be nothing short of damnation to the worst possible fate: the fate of being either grief-stricken or alone, for all time. So instead she is silent, bearing her sorrow without complaint, and simply hoping to fall asleep forever, with no cares and no worries, in the joyous world of dreams.
Not very socially adjusted, Janus generally takes things at face value, and doesn't understand things like jokes, although she does grasp the concept of sarcasm. Sadly, due to her stoic demeanor and bizarre attitude, most of her attempts at being sarcastic are in turn taken at face value, somewhat ruining the effect she strives for. She also has very little in the way of senses of personal space or shame, making her incredibly awkward to deal with at most times.

With this, she can manipulate either literal beginnings and endings - for example, altering the beginning of an object to change its nature - or can manipulate conceptual beginnings and endings - for example, manipulating a target's ability to begin anything, thereby essentially freezing it.

∞ Contract Forming: To form a contract with Janus, you must... sleep with her. No, not like that. Rather, she will invoke the beginning of sleep on both herself and the person with whom she intends to make a contract, and take them into the world of her own dreams, in which place their souls can be joined together more easily. In that place, Janus will test the contractor in various ways through contemplation of the dream, and in the end allows them a final choice, knowing the consequences of their actions and of the endless life they would gain as her contracted, to either accept or deny the contract. Should they accept the contract, she will seal their souls together, completing the arrangement. At this point, although not exactly necessary, Janus generally will remain in her dreams alongside her new bonded for a while, explaining their new powers and duties to them, and yet encouraging them to simply relax and enjoy the simple things present inside her dreams. After this brief respite, both will soon awaken once again, and the bonding will have been completed.
