Janelle Daniels's Story

Janelle sighed as she pulled into her designated parking spot and turned off her car. She looked down at her phone, which told her it was 7:10, and the school didn't start until 7:35. She bit her lip, thinking about her awesome summer that had been shrouded by last week's event. A positive pregnancy test. She hadn't told anyone yet, not even her boyfriend. She knew she couldn't keep a secret for long. She'd start getting bigger until everyone found out she was pregnant and the gossip would spread like wildfire. She knew she had to tell him before that happened. Before her reputation would be completely destroyed. Janelle was popular, had good grades, and a promising future. This...baby would change everything. Janelle shook herself out of her thoughts at 7:15. She grabbed her one-shoulder book-bag and hopped out of her car. She headed into the school, pulling out from her book-bag the paper with her schedule and locker number on it. She looked around for a friend to talk to.



Josh sat at the teacher's desk in his classroom, checking over his lesson plans for the day. Since it was the first day, they consisted of a syllabus for each class, and because he wanted to be a fun, cool teacher, a game to introduce everyone to each other. He took a sip of his coffee and blinked his eyes shut for a moment. He wasn't used to getting up this early. Josh walked over to the whiteboard and wrote his name in big, capital letters, because he was a brand new teacher this year. He sat back down at his desk and glanced at his watch, 7:20. He had fifteen minutes to kill, but nothing else to do.

Ainsley Caverly

Ainsley woke up early, like usual. She had to look impeccable today, but not dressy, as it was the first day of school. She brushed her red hair till it was glossy and put on her usual make-up regimen, which was BB cream, tinted lip gloss, mascara, and brown eyeliner. Then she grabbed some clothes out of her closet. She chose a cobalt blue skater skirt, a white sheer blouse, charcoal gray flats, and bright green earrings. After eating and washing up, Ainsley hopped into her Audi and drove to school, actually pretty excited for the new school year. New teachers, new people, new classes- who knew if this year would finally bring her love? Ainsley pulled up to the school parking lot early and saw Janelle Daniels walk out of her car. Ainsley wondered if she should catch up to her, and decided that she would. She opened her car door and stepped out lightly. She smoothed out her skirt and tugged at the hem of her shirt. The minute Ainsley started to speed walk towards the school building where Janelle was, she inwardly thanked herself for wearing comfortable shoes. The sun shone down, and it was a fair day. Ainsley ducked into the building and saw the familiar hallways. She saw Janelle and smiled.

"Janelle!" she shouted down the hall.

Janelle heard her name being called and turned to see Ainsley. She smiled at her. "Hey Ainsley, how was your summer?" After their brief interaction, she headed to her locker. She put away her book bag and grabbed her books from her locker. She headed to her class and sat down, then pulled out her phone to send a text before the bell rang and class started. She texted Starr.

From: Janelle
Hey! Sit with me at lunch today?

She contemplated telling Starr about being...pregnant. She had to tell someone and knew she could trust her best friend Starr.




Josh sat at his desk as some students entered the classroom. He glanced down at his notes again as a more students poured into the classroom. After the bell rang, he looked up, surveying his students. He spotted a familiar face in the back of the class, but couldn't place where he knew her from. He took attendance, but reading her name didn't aid him in figuring out who she was. The whole time during his lesson, he wracked his brain trying to place where he knew her from.
