"I can't understand what it is, but I just feel this isn't right." (Apsu)

a character in “Hubris: A Tale of Mortal Gods”, as played by Beach-Born-Boy

Description

Image

Name (Human): Miles Keaton

Name (God): Apsu

Gender: Male

Age (Human): 19

Personality: While normally a bit high strung, Miles tries to do what's best. It's at these times he's most vulnerable however. While his emotions control how he uses his powers normally, these emotions run rampant and often in the worst possible ways. Miles will black out, his powers will run rampant and he will lose all memory of the event and much of what came before, save for the emotion itself and who it's directed at. All this, coupled with the fact that he must work with family he either didn't know he had or hated to save the world tends to weigh on him and most times, he's much like a gun with a hairpin trigger. Loaded and ready to fire at the slightest pressure.

Weaponry: Double sided, extendable halberd.

Handler/Partner: May Branchflower

Relationships: A son of Chaos, the forebearer of gods, titans and men, Apsu is rightfully announced as the Babylonian belief's "God-King", a title that constantly eats away at him. In this aspect, he is not only related to his children in the Babylonian Pantheon, but he is related to the other children of Chaos, much like half-brothers and sisters. This relationship however, is one that he does not enjoy.

Abilities: Able to control fresh water sources (anything not salt water), can draw on his family's powers.

Oddities/Other: Apsu/Miles has markings that appear on his body when highly emotional or reaching a god-like state.

Miles awoke, his face drenched in a cold sweat and his feet dampened by the warm sea.He couldn't remember most of the dream, but one voice. "Tia, they need us," it had said. "I'm going to help them, and you should too." All he could remember was that voice, a voice that conveyed power, demanded respect while still offering the gentle guidance that only a few people could. A father maybe? He could only guess as even the voice faded away. Then came a sudden and terrifying realization. The voice really was all he could remember. Prior to waking up on the beach, his memory, his entire life was a blank, besides his own name. "Miles Keaton." It sounded to foreign to him aloud, as if it wasn't even his own. All he could do was sit in the sand, his arms on top of his curled up knees as he tried desperately to remember, but to no avail. He knew nothing before this beach.

May had been awake for a while, but that didn't mean she had been doing anything. She cursed herself for waking up so uncharacteristically early and rolled off of her bed, her t-shirt rolling up slightly. Her eyelids fluttered as she stifled a yawn. Her hair was a cloud of scarlet surrounding her face. Brushing out the tangled mass, she put some actual clothing on and left her house. Hell, if she was up early, why not go for a run or something? She headed out to the beach, where the waves were crashing silently. She picked up speed and started jogging along the beach. From the corner of her eye, she saw a figure on the beach. She neared and stood behind him. He was sitting down, staring into the distance. She sat down next to him.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

Miles was startled a bit, not expecting anyone to be on the beach, but a little glad that he wasn't in the dead middle of nowhere. If someone else was here, that meant there had to be someone who could help him, possibly nearby, right? "What are you doing?" The question caught him a bit off guard. He wasn't exactly sure how to answer that. "I'm... I'm not entirely sure. Thinking I suppose." Deciding that was the right answer, he continued. "Um, I know this might sound a bit... odd, but could you tell me where we are right now?" Even with no memories, Miles could tell, he was supposed to know this. The insatiable itch in the back of his mind urged him to ask questions, get information, try to find some way to counter this... what was the word? Oh. Amnesia. Right.

"Um, I know this might sound a bit... odd, but could you tell me where we are right now?" he asked.

May looked at him a little strangely. This fellow was proving to be an odd one.

"At a beach on New Earth, the year is 2742," she said.

She looked at her new sort-of acquaintance and saw that he was completely drenched with something- either sweat or sea water. He looked confused, and sort of... lost. It was rather improbable that he had washed up on shore, but it didn't really matter. Her stomach grumbled, and she stood up, brushing the sand off of her legs.

"Do you want me to get you a towel and something to eat?" she asked. Normally, she wasn't the type to offer hospitality, but she had an odd feeling about this person. "I'm May Branchflower."

"May huh?" The name seemed to ring a bell, but then again, so had so much in this short time. "I'm Miles. Um, Keaton. And yeah, that'd be great, thanks." He stood up, his joints still a bit stiff. After a few seconds, he spoke up again. "New Earth? What happened to the old one? " The question drew up a wrenching feeling in the boy's gut, one that told him he probably wouldn't like the answer. "You know, if you don't mind..." His voice trailed off as he turned away from the sea and more towards May. A second feeling, this time much more subtle tugged at his heart. He really loved the sea, for whatever reason it might be though, he wasn't sure.

"Well, come along then," May said briskly. Her impatient nature was starting to creep in, like it usually did.

Instead of jogging, like she usually did, she walked in rather awkward amiable silence with Miles all the way back to her small apartment. She unlocked the door and pushed it open, hearing the ancient hinges creak.

"Welcome to my humble abode," she said with a roll of her eyes. "It's not much, but it'll do. Let me go fetch a towel for ya."
