Ambar Emberlin
Age: 20
Gender: All of the genders. All of them.
Appearance: Standing at an unimposing 5'7”, Ambar is not exactly the most striking figure around. Ambar sports medium-brown skin and curly dark hair bound with a small pink band, and would squint quite a bit if not for her prescription glasses. A relatively small, soft body attests to Ambar's life of inactivity. She has a tendency to drape herself in baggy, vibrant clothing with little regard for cohesion in her wardrobe. Three tattoos are inked on to her spine depicting the sun, moon, and earth. She carries a small, cheap yellow coin necklace at all times.
Personality: Personalities are fluid. Ambar is constantly reevaluating her own worldviews and how she handles certain situations, resulting in a young woman that is painfully self-aware of her own shortcomings. She strives to be nice to everyone she meets until they prove that they do not deserve her love, and is an ardent defender of the oppressed in any situation. Ambar is extremely vocal when she does not like something and will go out of her way to educate rather than berate. Most of the current Ambar's personality can be traced back to the rather deviant lifestyle that ruined her formative years.
Reflection: Ambar's reflection is, though she does not quite realize it yet, a manifestation of her inability to use force as a means to resolve conflict. This inherent belief was the direct cause of a past trauma, and has taken root in her psyche to create a rather lackluster Aegis reflection: The Coward's Rings.
Anxiety- A plain iron ring with the word “Anxiety” embossed on around the band in black lettering. This ring endows Ambar with a sixth sense of sorts, alerting her moments prior to a specific threat. It is capricious, though, and will not activate in the face of an obvious threat such as a lumbering demon. Worn on the middle finger of the left hand.
Fear- A thick copper ring engraved with the word “Fear” repeated over a dozen times all over it. Fear grants Ambar dramatic bursts of speed; but only when fleeing an opponent.
Weakness- A thin ring made of bronze with the word “Weakness” crudely cracked in to the metal. Weakness reduces the amount of physical force Ambar can exert, reducing her ability to physically move and harm things in the Aether by nine-tenths. Inversely, she receives only nine-tenths of the force exerted by things in the Aether upon her person.
Bio: Ambar dislikes speaking of her past immensely. Being raised in Pennsylvania in a town in the middle of nowhere, Ambar Emberlin grew up with very little to do. In a town of less than a thousand people, you were either bored or stupid. Ambar proved to be the latter. She along with her best friend, Janet, ran along with the local “cool kids”. They drugged up, stole, lied, cheated, and screwed their way through adolescence with little to no regard for the people they hurt. Whenever things got a little too heated for her liking, Janet was always there to bail Ambar out.
She never really thought about it. They got in to street fights a lot, so Janet's bruises seemed innocuous at best. They were kind of messed up individuals, so the random bouts of crying that Ambar held Janet through seemed understandable. It was not until Ambar came over to pick up Janet one night that the pieces fell in to place.
She stood there paralyzed as Janet's father choked the life out of her, Janet grasping at a kitchen knife held just out of reach. It would have taken maybe five steps to pick up the knife and slash the insensate man off of her best friend. But Ambar watched, transfixed by the surreality of the situation. It was not until a few seconds after Janet stopped moving that Ambar burst in to a full sprint back home. In the following hours Janet's father was arrested. In the following years, Ambar vowed to be a better person. To be more attentive. To look for the minor details. To be better...
It was merely a whim that brought her to the Aether. With job hunting going poorly and university out for the summer, Ambar thought it would be a nice little side project. Bring Janet back to life and, assuming she returned to the physical world, become a celebrity. Ambar of the Aether! That had a nice ring to it. Of course, Ambar did not quite grasp the severity of her decision until she stepped in to the Aether, beholding her puny reflection. This was not going to be a fun journey.
