Fears
Peaking Early || Keevan achieved success earlier than most writers, publishing a bestselling novel when he was fourteen years old, and it's sequel when he was 16. Many people have praised him for his youth, but to Keevan it just means he's got all this time to try and keep it up. He's worried of peaking at Seventeen.
Having Children || Obviously he isn't ready for it yet, but Keevan has always grown up assuming he would start a family. The prospect of being a father terrifies the living shit out of him, though. He barely considers himself more than a child, and doubts he'll ever really grow up enough to take responsibility for the life of another. He can barely keep his pet fish alive.
Public Speaking || In person, Keevan seems a sociable enough guy, well-spoken and all that. He's a writer, after all. But the young man nearly pees his pants at the thought of speaking to an audience, and has had recurring nightmares about going on a book tour and forgetting to wear pants or something.
Secrets
Breadbowl.com || Keevan runs a satirical student newspaper online called the Breadbowl. Only one or two people know he's the one who does it, though the entire school can submit articles to him via breadbowl@gmail.com. This is a secret because Keevan often allows it to turn into something similar to a school gossip column, and has more than once used it to his own benefit. Plus, the school doesn't exactly condone it.

It goes without saying that Keevan, a published author and child of a Professor and Artist, is a pretty creative guy. One of his favorite games is making up fake backstories for random strangers who pass by him in a cafe or the library. He's got a mind for words and stories and people. Everyone who knows Keevan will agree that he is smart as whip, always quick with a clever comeback or a point that no one else had previously considered in an argument. The little hamsters in his brain are constantly running and keeping the wheels turning, it often seems like very little takes him off guard. Part of that might come from a healthy dose of cynicism he inherited from his father- the boy doesn't typically expect the best of other people. It's not that he thinks everyone is out to screw him over, but he doesn't exactly think people are there to do him favors. He tends to crack a lot of sarcastic, cynical jokes.
Keevan does not try to hide parts of himself away from other people (well, personality wise. He has secrets like everyone else), and his cynicism is therefore out in the open for everyone to see. The greatest target of his critical nature is himself- the boy is always ready with a bit of self-deprecating humor. He recognizes that he's a pretty good writer (although he doesn't write the sort of fiction his Dad thinks highly of), but otherwise considers himself just another teenaged bum. He gets nervous around people he's attracted to, and it very slow to take a chance on them because he tends to think they'll just look at him like another loser with a random gift. Maybe at another school his ego would be more inflated, but a place like Laurel means that his talents are the standard. His lack of confidence means he's not afraid to take a few underhanded routes to get things- he doesn't believe anyone would give it to him on his own merit, after all. He's quite the nosy guy, and is very bad about eavesdropping on people and snooping in the business of others. He's actually a bit subtle about it, channeling most of his gossipy ways into the BreadBowl anonymously, so many people don't immediately see this side of him. But he loves hearing about what other people are doing, whether it be talking shit or praising a classmate's recent achievements. Keevan likes to be in the know- it makes him feel like he has a place among everyone else.
Keevan also has a penchant for the dramatic, but more in a joking around sense than a theatrical sense. He likes to exaggerate things for comedic effect, and half of what he says needs to be taken with a grain of salt. He is an expert storyteller, after all, and that doesn't mean just in his books and short stories. He can turn an innocent encounter into a scandalous affair, seeing a small lizard to rumors of a crocodile loose on campus, etc. It gives him a thrill to tell stories and have people listen- he's a bit of a junkie for an audience for his work, although more in the sense of people reading his work or telling a story to a small group. Public speaking his much less his strong suit.
Keevan is also a bit of a romantic, but never thinks himself good enough for the people he likes. Every guy and girl he has ever had a penchant for is one he'd consider far beyond his league, so he tends to just pine away silently (and research any scoop of drama on him that he can).

It shouldn't come to a surprise to many that Keevan grew up with quite the imagination. With an NYU Literature professor for a Dad and an Artist (semi-successful) for a Mom, he grew up in an environment that encouraged you to think outside of the box and express yourself. His mother met her dad when she moved to New York from Ireland and while working did a project for the university. The two married in their late thirties, and Keevan is their only child. Keevan has always been desperate to please his dad in particular, a real traditionalist who liked thick books heavy with metaphor, Keevan started writing little things at a young age. His father was proud but critical- he did his best to help his son improve with advice, but didn't know how to bring down the criticism to a child's level. After all, Mr. Brennan spent most of his time around other academics and graduate students, and didn't have much experience with children. But this critical nature gave Keevan something to strive towards, and he continued to read and write like it was going out of fashion. When he was in the third grade, he entered a national short story competition for minors and won first prize. That's when the bug really hit him. The nosy boy was constantly eavesdropping on people, making up fake stories for passerbys, looking for inspiration for his next story. He began to win various children's contests quite regularly.
It was in the summer before sixth grade that he received the invitation to attend Laurel Academy, as his notable gift for writing had not gone overlooked by the school (although perhaps it helped that his father had a colleague who had attended the prestigious school). Keevan was overjoyed, and it didn't take much convincing for his parents to let him attend the school in upstate New York. After his first year at Laurel, perhaps inspired by the rather odd school, he published his first novel- a YA fantasy book that other students at Laurel might notice takes pieces from the lifestyle there for the educational system in it. It was a smash hit with the target audience, but his father was less pleased. He considered it fluff, and thought Keevan had a greater potential despite his young age. This has lead to a bit of a rift between the two, one that his mother tries to mediate as best she can. This rift is part of why he has recently spent summers at Laurel, where he is currently working on the third and final installation to the series. Of course, he has his side project: the Breadbowl, a silly school gossip rag that he runs anonymously.
