Power

Talent/Family Industry/Power
Feral Mind
Considering the fact that at this point in his life, the enhanced senses such as smell and hearing have long since integrated themselves into Mason's every day life, his power is that of a primal, unstoppable rage that allows him to perform in vastly increased capacities, taking and inflicting damage that he wouldn't in his normal state. Mason is naturally strong because he trained himself to be, but because of his powers and whenever they happen to be activated, all of it gets elevated to the point that sometimes he has no control over the rage that takes place. His strength rivals that of another super who's strength is inhuman, he's quicker and more instinctual, and honestly a lot deadlier than he would like to be.

Strengths
Really tall "It's a nuisance, but being six four can be helpful." || Loyal || Lives in the moment || Surprisingly performs well in school, particularly in English and History || Enhanced senses "No, Kat, I'm really not a golden retriever. I found your jacket that one time, damn it." || Has a very high pain tolerance || Finding a way to sneak in an adventure or running away (particularly off campus) || Really strong (he works out) || Running for long periods of time

Weaknesses
Sensitive to smells and sounds "Can't exactly complain that your music is too loud when I already hear better than most." || Teasing shorter people because he just can't help himself || Females "Not in that way, pervert. More in the I'm either scared shitless of them or find them cute when they're supposed to be intimidating. There's no in between." || People mentioning his past || Has really bad anger issues || Can never resist a sarcastic remark || Homemade macaroni and cheese "I'm very familiar with the microwaveable versions, and so when I can get my hands on a fresh pot, it's going down." || The feral in his head that just really wants to let loose on the world

Fears
Having left his mom to fend for herself and something happening to her || Not being to be broken or break himself out of feral mode || Hurting someone he cares about || Cats "Shut up, Kat. I had a bad experience."

Secrets
Homeless || Mason isn't just a Yearly for the fun of it or because he doesn't want to go home. Rather, it's because there's no home to go back to. His mother had him too young and without any support from either her family, or his father's family (mostly because they refused to acknowledge the boy who looked just like their deceased son), and so it's been a rather trying time for the both of them. When Mason had managed to find money before, it never lasted and his mother barely held down a job that made enough for the both of them, resulting in them losing the apartment she had initially gotten. The smarter idea, his mother had decided, would be to let him have a roof over his head, instead of going from shelter to shelter while she struggled.

Drugs || No, he doesn't do them and never will. The way his metabolism is set up doesn't allow for drugs to work for too long in his system anyway (he really wanted weed to be this lasting, good thing but it wasn't), but Mason did sell them, inadvertently of course. Then again, considering it made him money when he didn't know what the "errands" he was performing for a neighbor really included, he probably wouldn't have had much of an issue back then. But it is enough of an issue now that only two people know of that.

Personality
{ Audacious, Playful, Expressive, Impulsive, Sensitive, Protective }

The one thing that needs to be acknowledged and accepted first, above all things, is that Mason isn't everybody's favorite cup of tea. While some might find that others find them hard to deal with and want to change some aspect of themselves in order to please those other individuals, Mason has discovered this fact, laughs very boisterously in your face about it, and then revels in it. He warns in advance and makes no excuses about it - he can be a lot to handle. While he is not one of those people who believes that life is a complete joke, he also isn't one to find every little thing as serious. He's carefree in that sense, mostly because he's been through too much to be so serious. His life is his life and while he won't say that he's grown up with the most golden of spoons in his mouth (do plastic spoons count?), he has acknowledged that he grew up with the privilege (or is it predilection?) to not actually give a flying fuck about other people and their expectations. People are going to spend your entire life nitpicking the different parts of you that they either like or don't like, he has already surmised. And the one thing he is not going to do is waste his time trying to conform, fix himself or even try to please anyone. At least, not try to fix the things he doesn't want to change. So, if it happens that his rapid-fire, quick-witted and sarcastic self has rubbed you the wrong way, unless Mason genuinely feels as though he might have insulted you or truly hurt your feelings, expect not a single fuck to be given. He's shameless, after all.

Which is kinda funny when you consider how easily stirred up he can be. Blame it on his impulsiveness or a sensitivity he doesn't want to acknowledge, but Mason can go from zero to one-hundred without even having to go into feral mode. It just so happens that it's easy to get to that latter point, even when he doesn't want to, and he's trying to change. Has surrounded himself with people who can keep him in check. But it's hard not to react to things and people, especially when he's such a straight-forward individual who doesn't hide his wants, feelings, and desires. He wants to be with a person? Sure, he'll flirt, but they're going to know what's in his head. Curious if he doesn't like you or not? You shouldn't be because he's more than once probably set the record straight. It's not hard to read him, not really, and that's because Mason has grown tired of being guarded. He knows that it would probably be better for him to control his feral side by being more closed off, more guarded and to himself. Back to before officials of Laurel found out about him and brought him into the fold when all he had were these animal instincts and a need to survive when his mother couldn't provide for him. But Mason doesn't want that; in fact, he likes the life he has now, appreciates it. Which is why he's so damn intent on keeping the small group of friends he has, oftentimes just as quick to get into a fight on their behalf and whatnot because that's how much he cares. Even if that lands him in detention from time to time. It's not like he wasn't already going to wind up there because of his mouth or whatever harmless fun he and friends can get into.

ImageImageLikes
Swimming || Burgers || Running, since he needs to burn off excess energy || Reading || Action films that have genuinely interesting stories || Ice cream floats || Sports, especially basketball || Summer || Amusement parks || Motorcycles || Doughnuts || Home-cooked meals || Pranks || The taste of liquor, since he metabolizes it too quickly for it to have an actual effect || Breakfast foods, especially omelettes || Meats || Being able to walk around shirtless || Cliff diving || Camping || Fireflies

ImageImageDislikes
Super strong scents "I don't care if your perfume cost a hundred dollars, Janet. That shit's too strong." || Too much sugary foods "It's not that I don't like sweets. It's that they're too sweet...sometimes." || Snobs || Abuse of any kind || Asparagus, even though he's not turning down any offered food || Bullies || Other people crying "Look, it just...it makes me uncomfortable, alright?" || The Pepsi vs. Coca-Cola debate "They're literally the same." || People pointing out that he's graduating a year late || His background || Mushrooms || Drugs || His powers

ImageTo be fair, it wasn't like Mason's mom wanted to have a baby out of wedlock before she could graduate college. It just happened and once it did, nothing seemed to go right for her. She was a colleges student from what she thought was an accepting, tolerant Christian household. The father of her child was a fellow classmate who would be gunned down after a sporting event on campus due to the rival team's disdain of having lost, unable to confirm to his family that the child this pretty engineering major was carrying was his. The worst part of it - because yes, there are worse things than being called an insensitive whore by a family determined to deny their relationship to a baby boy - was her parents' reaction. She had seen them give money to women with children on trains and buses when they had signs transcribing their struggles. She was there to aid in resource-accruing events for needy mothers in their church's neighborhood. She had seen them be super kind and helpful to all of these women in unfortunate situations, some with more than one child - and she could not be afforded that same thoughtfulness. Instead, she was met with her hypocritical parents' scorn and disgust, and was kicked out of the family home, unable to continue school when she had to find work and whatnot for herself and her child.

By the time Mason was ten, they could no longer stay at the apartment she had had since freshman year of college. They had been in and out of shelters, and even though his mother always found a way to keep her growing boy fed, Mason was very much accustomed to struggle and hardship at a young age. It didn't help, when he was ten, that his powers surfaced. One day it had been normal, the next everything was just heightened. Smells and sounds and even sights were too much, like the fluorescent light in a building was somehow too bright when before Mason was pretty sure it had been dull. It was a mind-boggling change and he had hated it. Hated that it made him hyper-aware of how many days it had been since the person sleeping next to them had showered, hated how he couldn't go anywhere without knowing exactly where someone stood in reference to himself and how he needed that knowledge to survive. It was all made worse when he realized that there were more to these abilities, particularly when on an errand for a guy that paid him well enough that his mom didn't have to stress too hard for clothes, and the rage had been activated. A guy tried to cheat him out of the money his boss told him he was to acquire and after being shoved to the ground, Mason blacked out. He didn't come to until the guy was already beat to a bloody pulp - damn near dead, from what the news had said - and he'd been some blocks away, fists bloody and blood still trying to cool itself down in his veins. It took two more years for Laurel to find him and attending, particularly as a Yearly, had been a difficult decision. But once Mason had gotten a sponsor, and his mom insisted because it would allow her to go back to her degree without having to worry about what he was missing out on, it had been a done deal and not one that he's regretted. He just misses his mom a lot. She was the only family he had known for a long while.[/i]

Every year on the day before Summer classes begin, a bonfire is held. Now, thanks to a pyrokinetic staff member the bonfire is able to be massive, without much risk of it toppling over and harming students (usually). It is held a little ways off from the dorms on the beach by the lake, and the main bonfire is often surrounded by smaller firepits with different food options at each one. There is always, without exception, some form of alcohol and some form of drugs available, and the teachers tend to turn a blind eye to it, leaving not five minutes after students arrive. After all, many of the students have families too powerful to persecute them, and the school grants a good amount of freedom besides.

Music is played throughout the night, sometime alternating between speakers and student run bands if they request to perform. Dancing around the bonfire is common, and usually the bonfire is kicked off by a partner dance that by now all of the Yearlies have learned, even if they don't ask or get asked to dance. There has been drama started over the dance before, but it really just depends on how seriously one takes it- often times friends will dance together, after all. But everyone looks forward to Breadbowl posts afterwards about which dances meant something, who made what mistake, who snuck away with whom, etc. Nothing is kept secret for long at Laurel.

It is already dark out, with a full moon above and bright stars, the nearest city being too far away to outshine the night sky. Later on fireworks will be set off, and sparklers are resting all over the place for the amusement of students.

It is now about ten or so minutes before the bonfire "officially" kicks off with the first dance, but most students have already arrived and are sitting about the fires. Predictably, some are already stumbling over their own tongues thanks to the weight alcohol puts on them. Thus, the best and brightest of their age group prove themselves to still be young after all.

"Let's set the tone to a dramatic summer, shall we?"

The fact that Soledad found herself even going to the bonfire was a feat for the young girl. She just didn't get the appeal of it perhaps it was because this was her first year attending, or the idea of being surrounded by those she couldn't wait to leave behind for the summer, or the fact that she was just made aware by Kat about the part of the bonfire where there was partner dance sometime during the party. Which was the part she wasn't looking forward to either way; either she was asked to dance probably by Mason or one of her other guy friends out of pity or she would have to sit it out. Either scenario wasn't ideal. But, even after her protesting and constant resisting for the past week. Mason and Kat pulled out their puppy dog eyes and knew exactly how to sway their friend into actually going out and on top of that, Soledad got suckered into letting her best friend and roommate chose her outfit for the night since apparently her basic jeans, sneakers, and denim jackets didn't cut it. She looked at herself once more in a mirror situated in the hallway of Mason's building. She fixed her lip gloss one last time before walking in the direction of her guy friend's room, where the trio planned on meeting before heading over to the bonfire. With her short black booties clacking against the wooden floors, she only stopped walked when a passerby with powers of her own who asked in excitement if Soledad was actually going. To which, Soledad took out one of her headphones and sighed deeply before nodding. The girl, one half of a pair of clairvoyant twins, Madilyn squealed a bit as she bounced up and down.

Maddy spoke first. "Finally! Well, we all know someone's getting asked to dance tonight." Sol rolled her eyes as the short blonde winked and softly nudged at the girl who towered over her. "Yea, okay. That your powers talkin' or you assumin'?" Maddy shrugged. "I don't know, just a guess." Sol scoffed as she started to pick up her feet once more. "Yea okay, because I just have so many male suitors, amirite Maddy?" The young Latina laughed as she turned back toward Maddy speaking together as she walked away. "Maybe. See you there, sexy." Sol made a 'tsk' sound. Soledad groaned as she pulled on her high waisted mom jeans to pull them from going any higher on her mile-long legs as she finally found herself at Mason's door. She fixed her already secured sleeveless black top once more underneath her camouflage jacket before knocking. With her eyes returning back to her phone to change the song while the door opened."Kat, could ya have givin' me a skimpier outfit, Christ. I feel stupid." She didn't even look up from her phone at first as the door opened in front of her. And she definitely didn't notice a shirtless and towel-clad Mason Hart in front of her for a brief moment but, when she did.

She could feel herself, on the inside, begin to get flustered. She pursed her lips before letting out a small chuckle and turning her lips into an awkward smile as her eyes began to look up towards Mason's. She turned the awkward smile into a smirk quickly in order to hide just how flustered and caught off guard she truly was before giving him a snippy comment, per the usual. "You just answer the door naked now, Mace. That it?" With her hands making circles around his body to make her point even more while her eyes were more or less looking at Mason's forehead as opposed to his eyes. It wasn't that she hasn't seen him shirtless before, they were workout partners when it came to their powers, they ran together, and in the past almost four years of knowing him she has learned that he does like to be unnecessarily shirtless whenever possible. However, shockingly enough she had never seen him shirtless with only a towel as his only form of clothing. When she looked past him to see her best friend sitting down behind him, Sol couldn't help but chuckle. "If I was interrupting somethin', all ya'll had to do was say so, damn." She was kidding. Mostly. She knew for a fact that if there was anything going on between the two of them, they would have told her or she would have found out but, either way, it didn't stop a little bit of jealousy from unraveling inside of her. In the way where she felt like she could have punched a wall but, she held it in and just turned her bright eyes back to Mason with a smirk. "I'll wait out here while you get decent." She turned herself away from leaning on the doorframe to a few feet away from the door as she leaned against a wall as went to her messages to text her pain in the ass, younger 'sister from another mister'.

Sis (Kat)

you are petty af. lmk when yall are done

She wasn't angry at the fact that Kat was in there with Mason seeing that, she knew how close they were and the fact that she had no right to be jealous seeing that they were just friends. But, every once and a while something just got to her when it came to Mason. But, she wasn't going to think about that or let those stupid thoughts ruin her night. It was the first time she was all dressed up to go out and have fun and that's where her mind was at the moment.

Genevive was terribly late to the bonfire. The reason? That morning she had gotten horribly sick the moment she had woken up, having to lie to Pepper saying that it must’ve been some random bug going around. She had been getting horribly sick lately, and she didn’t know why. Jenny had decided to keep it a secret from her friends because she hated feeling like a burden, but lately it was getting too difficult to conceal. A part of her was terrified that she wasn’t going to feel any better by the time the bonfire rolled around. Which would’ve been a nightmare to lie about. Fortunately after taking the right amount of Ibuprofen, her headache and sickness faded slightly making her feel a little bit better. Pepper had already left, and she was scrambling to find something cute to throw on. She might not of cared too much about her outfit but, Thayer was going to be there. Her face blushed just at the idea of him as she shimmied on a shirt. Thayer was one of her best friends, and maybe she had started to feel a bit more for him in the past year but, Jenny had never been the confrontational type. Just as she was about to head out the door of her dorm her phone vibrated in her head and she opened a text.

From: Thay
I’ve already started drinking. Who am I going to suck at dancing with if you don't hurry?!

She smiled to herself and typed a quick reply in response as she headed out the door.

To: Thay
I’m on my way I promise! Don’t start having fun without me :) !!

When she finally arrived at the bonfire she surveyed the students who had already gotten there. Her eyes first landed on Brooklyn, her gut twisting, she hadn’t spoken to Brooklyn in a while and she thought it was best if they kept things that way. Much to Jenny’s dismay the two had been on rocky ground, and it didn’t seem like Brook wanted that to change anytime soon. She then noticed Keevan, Drake, and Thayer next to the bonfire, her face lighting up. She made her way over to them, Thayer happened to be facing away from her. She made eye contact with both Drake and Keevan in a β€˜don’t say anything’ glance, as she placed her hands over Thayer’s eyes from behind. ”Guess who?”
She lowered her voice slightly to try and make it different, but couldn’t help the small giggle that escaped her lips.

At first, Cayden had decided not to attend the bonfire. While he didn't have anything against the idea of being with his friends and drinking, he was just having a particularly rough night. For some ungodly reason his anxiety was through the roof, and he had a bitchin headache. He knew how disappointed his friends would be however, if he didn't show up. (Especially Mason). The factor that pushed him to go was the text that he received from Lance. He bit his lip slightly as he read the message, of course he wanted to see Lance but he knew all the people who were going to be attached to his hip at the party and he wasn't too fond of any of them. Cayden had become slightly distant from Lance because of his association with the plastics, but Cayden knew there was still the sweet boy he'd studied with underneath. With a sigh he quickly slipped on an ensemble from his closet, and after a moment slipped a guitar over his shoulder heading out the door, replying to Lance.

To: Lance
When do I ever miss a party? Bringing my guitar if you feel like putting on a show. :)

The bonfire was already in full swing when he got there, and he smiled and waved at a few familiar faces that glanced his way. He immediately spotted Lance, (of course surrounded by Cayden's least favorite students). Cayden could never approach that group willingly, so instead he gave Lance a small smile and wave when he caught his eye before moving over to the drink table, grabbing a cup of alcohol for himself. After all, he'd need it. He just had a feeling he would have to get a little drunk to survive this night.

In another life, Mason might have been allowed to appreciate Soledad coming to his bedroom just as he had gotten out of the shower, appreciated the way her eyes glazed over just before she hid it with a chuckle and her signature smirk that reminded him of Katiana. However, this wasn't another life and the fact remained that the situation occured with Katiana seated on his bed with the most deceptively innocent expression on her face and it was definitely not as sexy as his imagination could have made it. In fact, if it hadn't been for the way Sol's eyes had raked over his form - and it meant something when, for a guy who had no shame in walking around shirtless, he actually blushed at seeing her - it probably would have been just as embarrassing to him as it did her. Yet and still, though, it was embarrassing enough, even without Kat's long-suffering stare that he could just feel on his back. "I-I was just...we were just..." Even without words, Mason could feel - no, smell - Kat's unimpressed annoyance with him and he glared back at her just as Sol left. Turning back to the other girl, Mason opened his mouth to say something, anything really, but thought better of it and closed his bedroom door, wincing at his lack of intelligence in a situation like this. Kat sat, unrepentant, on his bed with her phone in hand, one milk-chocolate leg crossed over another.

"You said she was still on her way," he stated.

"She was," was the very monotonous response as Kat raked a hand through her curls, having done her best to keep her hair intact for the evening. Not oblivious to the look her friend was giving her, Kat text out a quick response to Sol and a message to Emerson before fixing her current company with a raised eyebrow. "Don't give me that look. I was helping you out. You and I both know that there was more than just shock in baby girl's eyes, and don't even act like that ain't make you happy 'cause you know it did."

To: Em
Ur friends stress me out :/ tell me ur not still in ur room cuz i'll drag u out

To: Tiny (Sol)
u sound thirsty af even tho allat coulda been quenched 2 secs ago

"Kat..."

"Listen, what kind of future godmother would I be if I didn't aid in securing the existence of my future godchildren?" Even if Mason wanted to be upset or at least chastise the meddling junior, it was hard to look serious when he snorted at her non-rhetorical question. Attempting to straighten his face into something more chagrined, Mason watched the dark-skinned designer roll her eyes before sliding off the bed and back into her sandals as she stood. "You're a mess," he told her, trying not to grin, "and I can't believe that everyone else doesn't see how much of a messy ass troll you actually are." He really couldn't. Mason understood that Kat was a bit different in the privacy that came with being close friends, and how she was when outside people came into the picture. He knew that she scared people, sometimes even more than he did with everyone knowing what his abilities really hid. However, it was hard to reconcile the actual fear and intimidation so many of their peers felt when there her dark eyes were alight with glee and mischief, when Kat smiled easier and her scent was as warm and as sweet as summer felt to him.

With a wry grin of her own, Kat replied, teasing, "And out of all of that, nothing you said sounded like you're against making my future god-babies with Sol, so..." Mason practically watched the girl skip past him to his bedroom door. She barely even opened the door before he, not trying to let her leave without having the last word, called out, "You know I can't stand you right?" Cheekily, Kat only answered with, "Baby boy, you adore me," and closed the door behind her to let Mason get ready with the outfit she had provided.

Once in the hallway, Katiana gave herself a moment to take in the ensemble she had left for Sol in their room and the way it accentuated the other girl's long, sleek legs. Which was the main point. She had to give herself a pat on the back for that. But before long, her gaze went back upwards to note the frown that Sol was good at hiding. "Sweetie, really? The only thing you interrupted was the mutually beneficial snacking I provided the both of y'all lookin' like y'all do. Y'all coulda been working on my future nieces that you're naming after me, but naaaaaaaaahhhhh," she said, a subtle sway in her hips that Kat couldn't hide even as she tried as she traipsed over to her taller friend's side.

Before the girls could truly get into a conversation about Kat's machinations, and Sol and Mason's potential whatever-they-could-possibly-be-if-certain-friends-minded-her-business, Mason emerged from his bedroom, fully dressed and situating his hat atop his head. It wasn't his idea, obviously. But he figured that Kat hadn't steered him wrong when it came to fashion and getting dressed by her was a lot better than being silently judged by her. One didn't make his skin prickle with the wrongness of it.

"We should probably get going," he remarked, taking three short strides to the girls. "Pretty sure the dancing should be starting right about now and someone," he cast a pointed look Katiana's way, "just hates missing out on her favorite tradition." Kat stared at him for a long time, silently, rolled her eyes, and only shortly said, "Ew." Not looking back because she knew the other two would follow, Katiana began the trek from the dorms to the beach of the lake, occasionally glancing down at her phone when she received Facebook notifications about the bonfire. Because the entire world wasn't yet aware of the powered students of Laurel, they could post things to a private Facebook for events like the bonfire where the occasional student or two might accidentally forget to not always show off their gifts. Kat liked them, loved watching and seeing who could do what, but she understood what would happen if too many people found out that there was a genetic abnormality that gave certain individuals fantastic abilities. Either way, from what she saw, nothing big had happened just yet, but it was close to that time. She did manage to send a text to Emerson.

To: Em
ur a mess. i'll find u

"Hey, Sol," Mason began, purposefully staying a little behind Katiana to confront his friend. He didn't need the other girl thinking anything was going on between himself and Kat, not because there was an issue with Kat.

They'd had a conversation twice about their relationship and both times ended in them admitting that at some point, it wouldn't work. Her walls were high already and he was sure they'd ruin their friendship trying to get her to lower it any more than she already had for him. And while she was a comfort and one of the greatest that he'd found in his nineteen years of living, it just wouldn't work for them. But with Sol...Soledad was...special, as lame as it sounded. He didn't know why but Mason had already been rather fascinated with her when he found out what her powers were initially, mostly because the dork in him couldn't help but liken her to a cooler superhero who didn't get their strength (like him) from being super angry and animalistic. And she had far more control over it than he did, at least, from what he had seen. Then, actually interacting with her after the incident that he never wants to mention because it never happened even though it clearly did, Mason could honestly say that he was sprung. On curiosity, on friendship, on more...on just everything, and he didn't know if he had a chance with her. Not really, not when it could potentially mess up their friendship. But it didn't stop him from wanting it and it definitely didn't stop him from wanting to clear up any misunderstandings because certain people decided to meddle for the day.

"I just wanted to say if - if we made you uncomfortable at all, that wasn't...Kat was just getting my clothes together 'cause I took longer in the gym than I thought I would," he managed out, not exactly sure why he felt nerves weighing on his tongue when he could flirt as easily as he breathes with Sol any other day. He probably didn't even need to apologize for anything other than being mostly naked in front of the girl, but the words came out and he couldn't control them. "And about the towel thing - that was...that was not on me. I thought I had more time and then she was gonna leave to actually let me - "

"I thought you wanted to get going," Kat called from ahead, which was surprisingly farther away from them than Mason had realized. For her to have the shorter legs, her agility was befuddling at times. But Mason couldn't focus on anything other than glowering at her timing and raised eyebrow. "You were so worried about traditions and all that." She whirled around and continued walking, and shaking his head, Mason followed with Sol, taking those few longer strides to reach their friend just as they arrived at the beach. Their welcome was the cacophony of mixed sounds; there was a song much louder than another in the background, the perfect indie record to start the first summer dance off along with somebody else's radio followed by chattering, laughing, and goading for those still immersed in their drinking games. "And so it begins..."

"Pessimist." Mason accused and Kat smirked at him from the corner of his eyes. The announcement for people to grab their partners had Katiana eyeing the crowd for a moment, taking in who was choosing whom, before she glanced back at her friends. Mason tried not to, at first, but then he was glancing at Sol and Kat damn near snorted in amusement. "Yeah, no. I don't dance. I'm getting a drink. Y'all...y'all have fun," she told them and walked away without a chance of a rebuttal in her search for Emerson, leaving Mason to shake his head. After a beat, he turned to fully to Sol, hands shoved deep into his pockets. "So, how about that first dance since this is technically your first one here? I figured I might as well offer since...you know...earlier. My...er, better apology."

Away from the duo, Kat wandered a little before her eyes settled on too very familiar forms and a bunch of cups with guys. Shaking her head silently, Katiana waltzed up to the girls, peering over Mina's shoulder. "This looks like a fun game that you're gonna get food after, Em," she informed the blonde with a pointed stare before gracing Mina with the softening of her eyes and, "Hey, love. Don't tell me you've been seduced by drunken tomfoolery too."

Sol was looking down at her phone as she saw the message from Kat and she couldn't help but scoff. Thirsty. Soledad was not thirsty for anyone especially over one of her closest friends. Please. However, there was still this feeling inside of her, Jesus, she still felt like she wanted to punch through a wall. She didn't even know why. She had no right to be mad, jealous, or thirsty, for that matter, over what her friends were or weren't doing with each other or with other people. When she heard Kat's voice heading towards her and just sighed as she rolled her eyes. She knew exactly what her sister was going to say to her. She chuckled before turning her head from looking up at the ceiling to looking at Kat as she walked towards the taller girl. As much as Soledad wanted to be annoyed, she couldn't help but laugh at Kat as she spoke. "Whoa, hold up. Pump them brakes. Okay? I enjoyed the view no matter how unexpected," She looked Kat up and down with her eyebrow raised. "But, you need to stop with these nieces. Seein that in order to, y'know have nieces there needs to be a relationship, a connection, or shit I don't know, a basic sexual attraction between two people." She proclaimed while getting up from her leaning position on the wall."Either way, ya'll don't owe me anything." She just shrugged.

Before they could get any deeper into their conversation, that, let's face it. Would just keep going around in circles with Kat talking about this relationship between her two best friends and these imaginary nieces with Sol rebutting it at every chance she got. Mason joined the two of them declaring how the dancing was getting started and how they would miss Kat's favorite tradition. With a snort, Soledad turned her eyes towards the taller male with a smile. "Yea, that'd be a tragedy to miss." She was being sarcastic. Clearly. Part of Sol actually wanted to miss the first dance. She knew Kat would find someone to dance with, Mason'd have his pick of the litter too, all while Sol had a drink in her hand. Just waiting for the actual dance music to start playing.

By the point where they started getting closer to the beach, Sol had put her headphones and phone away in her pocket for the first time since leaving her and Kat's room. Only to hear Mason say her name as they walked, not even noticing Kat getting further and further away from the pair. "What's up?" She asked as she quickly took a look at him. Even though she said nothing was going on between the two of them, she had to admit. He looked good. Really good. It actually took her a minute to snap back to reality when he started to talk. She looked him in the eyes as they slowed down their pace even more. She found herself taking a deep breath as he started to explain himself as if he had. She wanted to interject but she decided against it instead, she chose to wait for him to finish. However, before he could finish his sentence Kat hurried them along. Soledad laughed before picking up the pace with Mason not far in front of her. "Mm, damn." She finally took her eyes off of him and back to looking in front of her where she finally saw them reach the beach with a mixture of music, socializing, and the President of their class announcing how it was time for the partner dance. Sol looked around her to see friends grabbing other friends or couples grabbing one another but, because of how occupied she was looking around. She didn't seem to notice Mason looking at her. Until it was too late and Kat declared how she didn't dance and was going to get a drink.

"Wait, what about the dan--... Before she could finish her thought or even start to rebuff Kat's 'have fun' comment, which obviously towards Mason and Sol, all taller girl could do was softly groan as she watched her best friend bounce off. "Okay, bye." She shook her head as Mason turned towards him with his hands in his pocket. Sol raised an eyebrow with a smirk still on her face as she looked up at the guy who towered over her. As he asked her to dance, Soledad couldn't help but think. "What the hell is his problem today?" It wasn't like Mason to act so... sheepish and nervous. Ever. Especially around her and Kat and that was the Mason she needed right now in order to help make this dance any less awkward. She was already iffy on dancing with someone else in front of her peers and it didn't help that it was Mason, someone she knew she'd get teased for dancing with by a certain "Queen Bee" who wouldn't be named and her little gaggle of friends. So, in order to get him back to normal. She did what she did best, teasing. She took a step towards him with an awkward smile and a shake of her head.

"I don't know, Hart. I kind of have a waiting list of guys wanting to dance with me just sayin 'Soledad, te necesito. Soledad, te quiero a ti." (Soledad, I need you. Soledad, I want you.) She was smirking the entire time she spoke, moving closer when she started speaking Spanish. She, however, soon broke her sarcastic smirk to find herself actually smiling with a genuine laugh that followed for the first time all day. She held up one finger before continuing. "But, I guess since you gave me that unexpected but, somewhat pleasant little peep show. I think I can bump you up to the top of that list. Besides, I feel like pissing off your little admirers tonight." She winked before looking towards where she found Brooklyn, Petra, and rest of their little group hanging out. By the last sentence, the sarcasm was back but, she softly took his arm and made their way to where most of the couples gathered.

But, she did find herself pause for a minute, looking back in the direction Kat went in before finding her eyes back at Mason as she loosened her grip on his arm. "And for what it's worth I know the towel thing wasn't on you. That has Kat written all over but... you don't owe me shit, y'know that, right? And if you feel like you have to dance with me as an apology for it... You don't--.. you don't have to. You can dance with someone you actually want to, it won't hurt my feelings." She shrugged. "Ego maybe, but not my feelings."

The thing was that Katiana could have a good time and probably would, eventually. Maybe. It depended - on what, she didn't know just yet. But the second Emerson turned to her with damn near glassy eyes and a a smile that was much larger than she normally would have amidst Katiana's light scolding, she already knew that she would be putting 'a good time' on hold for a little while, if only to assure Emerson a not-so-unpleasant hangover. She more than likely wouldn't be able to save the blonde from the hangover she subjected herself too because there was no denying that a hangover was coming, but she'd at least be able to stop an even worse one from forming. Hopefully.

"You do know that that's not how junk food works, right?" She inquired, impassive as she observed Mina and the game. "Junk food is junk food, and none of it is gonna soak up any of whatever you had to drink tonight." Sparing Emerson a calculative glance, Katiana smirked at the other girl, speculating in her head on what could have caused her friend to go crazy with the alcohol already. It wasn't surprising that Emerson had given into the allure of alcohol at an event where everyone was doing it; she was impulsive like that. It was one of the reasons why Katiana loved her, in the first place. However, indulging this quickly into the night and having the alcohol effect her this quickly only meant that something had triggered her, and Katiana didn't need anything making it worse. Sighing, her smirk turned into a more placating smile as she said, "How 'bout this? I'll get a drink if you come get real food with me after this game. I'll even let you pick what I drink."

When Sol brought up her imaginary line of guys, the laugh felt like it was punched out of Mason and he found his shoulders growing more and more lax, once more back to a state that felt less like nervousness and more like normal. Which was a lot better - no, scratch that, it was much better than feeling as if he would be saying the wrong thing. The situation Kat had put him in wasn't one he was familiar with and it was weird to navigate out of the discomfort and awkwardness left in the other girl's wake. "Damn, NΓΊΓ±ez, a whole line? How the hell am I supposed to compete with that?" was his retort with a wry grin. And when she told him that she'd concede to his request for a dance, he feigned a damn near affronted look. "Somewhat pleasant? I'll have you know that that was only a tease. I do my best shows on Saturdays at eleven o'clock," he told her, shaking his head when he followed her line of vision to where Brooklyn and Petra were.

Ask Mason on any given day, and he would tell you that it wasn't that Brooklyn wasn't pretty or that he actually had an altercation with Petra that resulted in his dislike of either. Because Brooklyn was pretty - really pretty - and he and Petra didn't interact enough for there to be any personal discord. However, that didn't stop him from disliking them and wanting nothing to do with either of them. It didn't help that it didn't take a genius to know that neither girl particularly liked Soledad much to begin with. When Sol moved to pull away from him, Mason reached over to grasp the hand that had been gripping his arm, an earnest glint in his eyes as he gazed down at her and said, "You and I both know I don't need to owe you shit to wanna dance with you." He shrugged. "I just do." Mason found himself staring a few seconds longer than necessary, but not exactly wanting to look away. Whether it was to convey the sheer honesty of his words or simply because of the way the still setting sun made the brown of her skin look even more golden than it already was, he wouldn't be able to say. But, after a moment too long, he licked his lower lip and smirked again, voice teasing as he added, "'Sides, gorgeous, who else am I gonna have fun and piss some people off with?" With her hand still in his, Mason - laughing - pulled Sol to spin her, hoping to start the having fun part (and putting aside the way his heart had damn near lurched at what felt like a confession a few seconds ago).

When Mason reached for her hand, Soledad could feel her smirk grow and her eyes squint a bit. Not because she didn't want him to stop her from moving away but because she didn't expect it. In all honesty, she didn't know what she expected to happen when she told him that he didn't have to dance with her. It wasn't like he was going to say something along the lines of 'Wow, you're right.' and just walk away but, she didn't think he'd do what he did or say what he said. When he looked down at her, she just met with his big brown eyes as she looked up towards him. Her smile grew even more before she chuckled softly. And the pair just sort of stayed there, looking at each other. Sol knew she was smiling like an idiot and if Kat saw she would never let the New Yorker live it down. Ever. She didn't know what was wrong with her. This wasn't like how Sol usually acted. Mason flirted with her all the time. He winked at her all the time. They made flirty comments towards each other all the time. It was the one thing she could always rely on when they were together.

But, this felt... different. This was uncharted territory for her and in response, Soledad responded differently. She felt like if she didn't snap out of it she'd snap his hand like a twig. Soledad couldn't think much of it. If she did she'd find herself dodging Mason, Kat, and Kat's questions all night. So, she did what she did best. Dodge the comment entirely as if it was never said. Luckily for her, Mason broke the silence with a smirk on his face and sarcasm oozing through his voice. As he spoke, she made 'tsk' sound before rolling her eyes before being completely off guard once again but this time with him spinning her. Which ended with his arms nearly wrapped around her.

"Oh, you'd be fine. You'd find someone else," She looked up to him still his arms around her and a smirk on his face. "They just, ya know, wouldn't be as good as me." She winked towards him and nudge his side harder than she needed to just to show off that she was stronger than him and project who was really in charge during this dance. Something she has felt was her duty since the incident either of them chose not to talk about that almost ended with Soledad getting a concussion. "But, c'mon. Let's go show off your amazing dance partner and you betta be able to keep up, pretty boy. 'Cause I ain't slowing down for no man."

"Mmmhhmmmm, sure," Kat said in response to Emerson's defense of her earlier "food" choices. Katiana could indulge in as much junk food as the rest of them and be satiated for the a good portion of the day, but she at least remembered that she could only do that every few days. Then, she'd have to partake in a real meal. If it were any other friend who tipsily informed her of their caloric intake via poptarts, Katiana would have snorted gracelessly and tucked in to watch the fireworks. However, considering Emerson's already precarious management of her health and life - mostly when it concerned to losing herself so deeply in her work that meals were occasionally a last thought, if a thought at all - Emerson wasn't going to be one of those friends she casually watched fall flat on their faces, drunk off their asses and about to receive the worst hangovers their teenage bodies could handle.

Kat welcomed Mina's slender arms around her trim waist by placing a hand on them in greeting, giving one of the other girl's forearms a soft squeeze of acknowledgement. Being one of Katiana's oldest companions, ever, Kat was more than pleased to hear her Mina backing her up, minutely smirking at Emerson's eventual resignation. "Shots it is then," she announced, taking in the dark cloud that rose to cover Em's usually bright countenance at the mention of it being their last summer. It was a solemn thought and one that Katiana didn't like entertaining. She wasn't going to entertain it at all. Hurrying to put Emerson in between herself and Mina because she refused to allow the blonde to be on a corner to mull over unpleasant thoughts, Kat obliged to linking their arms. "Shots first and then ladies, we get me a burger cuz I kill for one right now. And then cranberry with vodka."

It probably said something about him that having someone stronger than him with him - whether that be emotionally, intellectually or physically, it didn't matter - made Mason grin, made a thrilling frisson of something prickle over his skin like an electric shock. That knowing that Sol could very well toss him on his ass as easily as she breathed flat out did it for him, could make him breathless - that that feeling of actual threat didn't make him cower or have his more feral hackles rise. It probably said something downright pathetic, but he didn't have a certain someone - or certain someones because Mason was pretty sure even Cayden would have something to say about it - so Mason did not feel the need to call it such.

But it was, a secret little voice in his head insisted, even as Sol shoved - any other person, any other powered individual who did not have Mason's healing capabilities and sturdiness would call it a shove, no matter what she said the intent was - at him in the middle of their dance. Because all Mason did was grin and go with it, letting her lead as she willed. "Yes ma'am," he said softly, obediently. But of course, because it was Sol and because Mason was Mason, he couldn't help but let his tone turn cheeky as he added, "'Sides, I think there's some saying or something about guys who go slow anyway. Glad to know you think I'm pretty, though. Gotta keep up with you somehow, right?"

While talking, Mason walked Sol further into the throng of dancing pairs and even groups, grinning all the while, knocking his hat off his shoulders so that it rested on his back thanks to the string Kat had said was the reason why she thought it was good for him. It was warm outside, prone to growing even more-so as the summer continued, and Mason felt the heat building up underneath it, shaking out his brown hair.

[Sorry if this time skip seems a little bit abrupt, but in the interest of moving things along I'm going to jump further on in the night. If no one has any posts for that, then we'll skip to morning.]

A few hours have passed since the night's festivities began. The music is still playing and people are still drinking, but the night is looking to be on its way to winding down. Those with less energy have started to leave for bed, and thus those who are more inclined towards energy and chatter and whatnot are the ones who tend to remain.

Time: Midnight
Weather: Scattered clouds, comfortable temperature
