The clocks read 11:58PM in Forest Grove, Oregon on a brisk fall Friday. The students of Pacific University could be found doing an abundance of things. Some were partying, becoming more and more inebriated as they downed shot after shot of alcohol, some were studying madly for their next big test, others were joking and laughing with their friends over a game of Cards Against Humanity, and others were just about ready to get to bed. What they didn’t know was that the Midnighters of Bixby, Oklahoma have broken the seal and when the clock struck midnight time would freeze for everyone…well almost everyone.

11:59PM. In Bixby, Oklahoma at midnight time freezes and another moon rises, emitting blue light everywhere. The rain is still, looking like tiny glimmering specks in the air. The cars on the highway have stopped. The dogs have ceased their barking because they too are frozen. The moon rises and sets for an extra hour and every night is this way. This is called the blue hour. It is that special hour between 12:00am and 12:00:01am that only few are able to experience. The only humans who manage to escape the time freeze are the ones who were born exactly at the stroke of midnight. Unfortunately, the rules have changed and this blue hour will now occur everywhere in the world.

12:00AM. The dim blue light sweeps over the Pacific University campus as well as the entire pacific time zone. Spilled beer is static and floating in place. Lifeless bodies are frozen in conversation all across the western seaboard. Everyone is still…except for the select few. The Midnighters who attend Pacific University are experiencing the blue hour for the first time in their lives. Some are stricken with fear, unable to move in the space at first while others’ curiosity takes them to unimaginable heights. They discover new abilities they never knew existed. Some may read minds, some may breathe fire, or even fly. This blue hour is an escape for them…unfortunately they aren’t the only things that reside in it. Darkness looms around the corner and it is on a high speed path straight for our Midnighters.

You will be role playing for one of the five known Midnighters at PU. You will start the role play blinded and alone. You will not know what power you possess or how to use it. It is up to the five role players to figure out what they are and what their purpose is by testing it during the blue time and/or researching it during the 24 hours that people aren’t frozen. Researching won’t be easy seeing as this has never been heard of before and a test gone wrong in the blue time could prove fatal. Are you here to escape from the world or save it? And save it from what? Can you do that while dealing with the struggles of college and becoming a real human? Are you even a real human?

This role play will be like none ever done on this website. It will combine the awesome qualities of serious literary role plays as well as action filled Dungeons and Dragons style play when the blue hour comes. This will require dedication and a serious time commitment in order for it to be fun and successful. A minimum of 3 posts a week will be expected from the 5 authors. If you cannot handle that please don’t waste our time. If you have never read Midnighters do not fret. That is actually a plus! It means you will be learning about your character as they learn about themselves and it will make roleplaying even more fun and interactive.

Once your character is approved please PM me with what would be your first post describing where your character is and what they are doing right before their first blue hour. We will have a quick 1x1 role play in PM going through your character's first time in the blue hour. This will be your time to figure out as much as you can about yourself and the world before I take off the training wheels. The first posts of the actual role play for all the characters will be a descriptive version of their midnight adventure and the morning after.
