Personality: Ekaterina is unlike most teenagers. She's hardened to the ways of the world, and isn't as caught up in all the foolishness and hormones of most adolescents. She's more practical, and finds her own amusement in the little things, such as pick-pocketing, combat and training, and weaponry. Needless to say, she's not exactly your everyday normal teenager.
Katerina is quiet, calm, and calculating. She prefers to watch and wait. These traits owe themselves to many reasons. Her past has changed her. Her morals always seem to take the low ground and she rarely cares if people get hurt around her, unless it's her family. But that's another matter entirely. She has no qualms with getting her hands dirty herself, and will do it willingly if the situation calls for it. She gets what she wants, whether by fists or flirts. She will use anything in her possession to her advantage. She rarely allows herself to grow close to people, given her issues regarding trust. Instead, she'll put up one of two defenses. She'll either stay silent, not saying a word and giving off a cold front (sometimes literally), or she'll shoot out a round of sarcastic, sharp-edged comments. She's quite good with her words, and knows more than two languages. She's a quick learner, and is always equipped with adept instincts and a quick mind. Whatever the case, she's not one people get to know easily, but when they do, and if Kate calls them a friend, she will be somewhat protective over them, and while she will not divulge everything about her past, she will open herself up to them, an achievement not many can lay claim to.
However, beneath her hard outer shell, inside, Kate's still just a girl. She wants to be free. She wants to be able to just relax, to be a teenager. She wants to erase her past, forget many of the things she's done. There are moments, small moments, when she lets loose a bit. These are the moments when she can be seen, or not seen, in her room, dancing around to Russian bands and laying by the pool at night when there's no one around. She's a teenage girl with experience beyond her years, experience no child should ever have to deal with. But, such are the ways of the world. And maybe now that she's at the Academy, it can all change. She's not running, she's not hiding, and suddenly, she's got family. She's not alone.
However, when it comes to guys, or romance in general....Let's just say Katerina could put a gun together in under 30 seconds, but put a guy in front of her, and throw in any sort of attraction, or any genuine feeling, and she'll have no idea what to do. With all the knowledge she's got stored in her mind, she is clueless when it comes to boys. Sure, she knows how to flirt, and she's ok with sex. She's great with it, actually, but if someone actually manages to make it past her defenses, and any real[ feelings are created...that's when she'll be in trouble.
Living in an orphanage was the first thing that taught Kate to fend for herself. She was just one in a large group of yelling, screaming, whining children. She was the girl who stood in the back and never said a word, even when couples came in to adopt. However, when she herself was adopted, things changed.
Now, Kazimir Demidov was not the worst man in the world. But he wasn't the best either. He often seemed to care little for Kate, but that may be because he had his own problems to deal with. Problems far larger than the child's mind could comprehend. See, Kazimir owed some great deal of money to some Russian mob that was located in Saratov, and when time ran out, and he hadn't paid, they sent someone after him. She was 12 when it happened. Kazimir was tortured for hours, and in the end, he was killed, a shot between the eyes to end his suffering. Them, to make sure there were no loose ends, or witnesses, the assassin came after Kate. However, when he came at her, she screamed, and as she screamed, the room grew colder, so cold you could see your breath in the air. So cold that parts of the man began to turn purple, then blue, and he dropped to his knees. Now, when the mob came looking for their missing man, and found him dead, they realized that there was a missing peice in the puzzle. Katerina was gone. That presented two problems. One, they still didn't have their money. And two, the girl was gone, and she knew what they'd done. She might tell the police. What choice did they have but to find her?
However, in the next few years, Ekaterina learned how to survive, how to protect herself, and how to do things most people wouldn't even think about in their nightmares, and on many occasions, that knowledge came in handy. Not to say she never walked away without injuries herself. No, she's had her fair share of pain. See, when people want money, they're usually willing to do whatever it takes to get it. What's that old saying? Money makes the world go round? And when they need someone to stay silent, someone who's seen things they shouldn't have seen, well, the situation hardly differs.
One day, when she was 16, Ekaterina met a man who seemed to sympathize with her, and in return for her companionship, helped her travel across the world to America. Since coming to the United States, Kate's changed. In learning English, she's been able to dispose of her old accent, and has learned even more than she thought she ever could. The man, Alexander Carlisle, he took care of her for two years. In those two years, he tried to get the girl to relax, and though she'd never admit it, he did help her, more than what words could say. Were it not for him, she'd still be on the run. Yes, she may have survived, but she wouldn't have lived. Running was not living.
Another change, possibly the biggest one of all, came one day when, arriving home, Kate found a woman in her house. Naturally, she acted on instinct, and pulled a gun. Imagine that, pulling a gun on a goddess. The woman simply laughed, but stayed calm. She explained everything to Kate, and, though the girl was still wary, she listened. Once the woman was sure the girl believed her, she told her about the Academy, and in the end, she agreed to go.
Now, just because the girl acquiesced to her mother's request of attending the academy, that does not mean the two are on good terms. Kate doesn't think she could ever forgive the woman for never helping her, for practically abandoning her and leaving her to die. If she'd really loved her, she wouldn't have let her suffer all those years like she had. She would have done something.
At the Academy, Kate's found herself amongst people who have no idea who she is, or what she's done, the life she's lead, and the past she tries to hide. Here, she's just a normal teenager, well, a normal demigod teenager anyways, and she has the chance to live out her life as if her past had never happened. Here, there is no Ekaterina, russian runaway. There is only Kate. It's a fresh start, and gods be damned if she doesn't take it.
Anything else? The headmasters, and some of the teachers, may know some of what Kate is coming from, but most of them do not know the things she's done. They only know where she comes from, and that, for some reason, she had to run away. The physical instructors also know that she's got training they don't teach, which gives them a hint as to what kind of life she used to lead.
Also, Kate's got a jagged scar on the side of her stomach, stretching down to her hip. She doesn't usually talk about it, and when people ask, she just shrugs and doesn't answer.
