Winkie Bouchard

"Why don't you buy me a drink a then we'll talk"

0 · 384 views · located in Deadly Dame

a character in “Mysteries of the Sea”, as played by Love me Not

Description

Image
Full Name: Myriam "Winkie" Bouchard
Age: 23
Gender: female
Appearance: Winkie for the most part is nice looking woman, with long flowing brown hair and lovely green... "eye" but thats something she doesn't really care about. As a child her father was a fisherman, and once Winkie decided that she wanted to help her father complete his task so he could spend some time with her. She proceeded to take a knife and try to clean some fish, with disastrous results. The little girl swung up and stuck the knife in her eye, she
was saved by her father but her eye was not salvageable and she has been wearing a eye patch since then. Now a pirate she wears free flowing clothes that dont inhibit her from from moving especially when she is helping raid other ships.

Skills: fishing, excellent with a sword(after her incident as a child she decided she would familiarize her self with any kind of blade she could), knot work (she learned all kinds of knots from her father as a child),
Position: crewman

Likes: gold, rum, men, the ocean, a well made cheese, the taste of salt in the air
Dislikes: her step mother, being alone, being away for the sea for a long time
Fears: Being abandoned

Personality: Winike can be a complicated person, she can be a sweet girl that longs for attention from men and uses her looks to get what she wants. But she also has ruff side were she gets in a bar room brawl just for the sure excitement of it. All of this stems from the treatment she received as a child. Since she has become a pirate she believes that there nothing else she would rather do in this world. But she does have standards to an extent if she were to bare a child she would give up piracy knowing it is not the place for a babe.

Reputation: Winkie has the reputation of being popular with the men, that is until she feels she has gotten what she want from them. She is also known for being good with knives and swords despite the mistake she made as a child.

Bio/History: Myriam Bouchard was born to Jose and Annette Bouchard, Jose a former pirate himself decided that he should settle down and become a fisherman after the birth of his daughter. Sadly Annette died not long after her daughters birth due to complications, Jose felt incapable of caring for such a young babe. He soon came to a prostitute that he used to frequent during his pirating days and asked if she would care for the babe in exchange he would marry her.

Bonnie Bouchard was nothing like Myriam's mother and in fact treated her less then one would treat a dog. When Myriam was six years old she lost her left eye in an accident, making her step mother like her even less. As the girl grew Bonnie convinced Myriam's father that he would be unable to find a husband for a one eyed girl, and sold her into prostitution and the age of 16. The brothel was a horrible place, and this is where she picked up the name Winkie because she wore a eye patch. Winkie grew tired of the life at the age of 18 and stowed away on a ship called the "Billowy Bilge Water", the captain was an old man who welcomed the young woman. That is the ship she has sailed on for the past five years until the old captain passed away and the crew dispersed. Winkie is now searching for a new crew and the "Deadly Dame" seems like a good start.

Other: Winkie can often times seem amorous to any man she comes across, but thats only because thats the way she learned to deal with men from her time in the brothel.

So begins...

"Winkie why don ya just come back to de Lady's Lace now dat de whole pirate ting is over", said an old woman with blazing red hair piled on top of her head, mountains of curls spilling about and her bust about to spill out the top of her dress.

Winkie sighed despite the fact that she had hated being a brothel girl for two years Mama Mabel had been good to her, "I can't Mama I love the sea and I can't see myself doing anything else" she said with a sigh.

Mabel shook her head "Too bad honey you was one of my best girls it's been hard to find someone to replace ya. But what are ya goin to do now dat ole Captain Smee, met up wit Davy Jones", she said with genuine concern for Miriyam. The girl had been tossed on the door step at such young age by that devil of a wench, formerly Bonnie Winchester had been a girl at the Lady's Lace as well.

But ole Jose didn't know what to do when his wife died and took her to wed just to have someone to care for little Miriyam. But Bonnie wasn't one to compete with a mans affection so she made it her mission that when the baby was old enough she'd be rid of her. Miriyam's accident didn't help matters any, and so the young girl was tossed into the business like a used wash rag.

Winkie stood up and hugged Mabel making the old woman smile slightly "I got to go but thanks for the offer, I can't thank you enough for letting me stay here for a while" Mabel patted the girls hand. "Always remembah if ya need somewhere ta go ya always got a place here" said Mabel. Winkie smiled as she let Mabel's hand slip form hers and headed away from the brothel.

The sounds of fighting and the smell of rum and ale soon hit Winkie's senses as she made her way towards the "Cock and Bull", she walked up the path barely missing a man that had passed out in puddle of his own vomit. Winkie rolled her eyes but that was a common sight when it came to pirates docked in port, she stepped in the doors. "Ah Winkie ya be a sight for this old mans eyes, where ya been all my life" said Seamus the bar keep.

She walked over and leaned on the bar "Aye Seamus it has been some time since I've seen ya. How are ya doin ya old man".

Seamus chuckled "Yah know I haven't been to the Lady's Lace since ya left", he said with a smirk as he poured a drink for Winkie.

Winkie smiled back "Now thats a load bull Seamus ain't nothin keeping you from a pretty skirt" she chuckled.

Seamus let out a hearty laugh that could be felt through the worn wooden bar top, "Yah no me too well lass I can't pull the wool over your eyes"

Winkie smiled "So Seamus heard tale of anyone needin a crew", she said. "What now I thought ya was sail'n with ole Smee, that salty dog always gets the prettiest ones".

Winkie didn't say a word she just gave Seamus a solemn look, "Ah I see so ole Smee finally met his maker, bout damn time though he'd never die. Well I suppose I heard that, the lady over there in the corner is looking for a crew. I'f ya don't mind working under a woman, frankly I'd rather be on top myself", he started to laugh heavy and loud again.

Winkie shook her head and smirked, then she headed over to where Seamus had pointed out the woman. She walked up to the woman and gave a court nod "My names Winkie Bouchard" she glanced over at a handsome man that was putting his mark down on the paper at that moment.

Then she turned back to the woman "I've been, a crewman aboard the Billowy Bilge water for the last five years, so I'm familiar with everything that has to do with a ship. I can cook as long as it's fish but other then that I need to be on deck. Can't live without the wind in my hair and the taste of saltwater in my mouth" she said with a smirk as she signed her name on the list. "I wont let ya down, I stayed with my last captain till the day he died as long as I'm living I'll be in your service".

The night continued on. The noise dimmed down apart from the occasional outburst. Groups of people huddled together having a good chat, whether boasting about their trips or attempting to score it didn't matter. The mood was just right, it was cosy and joyful. The evening had gone well and Val was impressed. She filled up all the positions she needed and of course had a few lackeys sign up too. By then she must of been on her six mug of ale but she had to keep reminding herself to take it slow. She's on business. The characters that had had the nerve to walk up to her and sign up were a mixed bunch. All seemed like they had a full set of marbles and some extra balls either that or they were good enough to bullshit their way through. She was impressed by most of them but they had yet to earn her respect yet. Setting her legs back on ground as they had started to cramp up from being in the same position for so long, she reached over and scanned the paper:
Drake Springer
Winkie Bouchard
Marie Simon
Johnny Fletcher
Mama Agatha
Marco Mcdonald
Ildigardo LeFarge
Azalea Gordon
James Taylor

Although she suspected that from all the bullshit that had come out of his mouth this evening that she had overheard Ildigardo LeFarge was probably not his real name. She didn't care, she understands that what happened in the past stays in the past and a need for a new life. She was only concerned that his tongue doesn't do any more wagging than need be. By the looks of it though the Marie girl seemed to have taken an interest into him already. No harm in having a little fun especially on a long journey. Mama had disappeared for the most part but seemed to reamerge to feed the Marco fella's ferret. Winkie had vanished as had Johnny in his drunken stupor. The young doctor Azzy had melded into the crowed and the James Taylor who looked a bit of a pompous know it all, but should at least come with some interesting conversations, he had escaped to his room. There were a bout a two dozen other names on the list but they were only hired as more bodies to keep the ship in mint condition and to man the cannons. From her education back with her old Captain she could tell the type of person from their handwriting. From Johnny's rough scrawl to Jame's professional loops these were two men that got to down to business. Draining the last of her ale she stood up and made her regal march past the bar which she tipped her hat to the tender and flung him a few coins which he caught expertly. The others didn't notice her slip through the crowd but she eyed them off as she passed. She thought to herself as she made her way down the docks. This should make a very interesting adventure.

The morning came earlier then what Winkie wanted to, she scrambled quickly to get her clothes on and ran to the docks. There were many boats but the Deadly Dame was easy to find.

She ran up the gang plank just before they pulled it up "Damn it all, I though I was getting here early and here the ship bought left with out me" she said as she breathed heavy from the sprint here.

She stood on the deck looking around many people were milling around doing their various tasks. She was disappointed that she was nothing but a cabin "boy" but she assumed it was cause of her eye.

She decided she should probably get below deck and find something to do, "Damn blasted I get stuck in the kitchen" she said as she walked in to the galley. "Oi anyone in here I suppose I'll be help'n ya" she really didn't want to do this cause most cooks ended up boot'n her out of the kitchen.

She saw someone milling about, the woman was the darnedest looking thing she'd ever seen. Scars, wild hair and an eye that was dead as a door nail, it made her appreciate her fathers kindness of having her's removed. Wearing a patch was easier to deal with then having people look at you like your mad.

"There's your potatoes mam" she said with a huff as the last in the bucket was pealed, the cook really hadn't looked up from her duties. All she had done was point at a bucket and Winkie got the point from there. As she watched the cook mill about for awhile Winkie decided that she wanted to explore the ship that she planned on spending the rest of her life on if at all possible.

She decided that while the cook was distracted she would take a chance to, explore the lower decks. She looked into one room and spotted some sort of animal, it appeared to be a weasel or...or... something, Winkie had never been good with land animals.

"Now would ya look at you, you don't look at all like a bilge rat" she said with a slight chuckle "I assume you belong to someone on the ship" she said with a smile and reached into the pocket of her skirt. "You hungry little fuzzy thing" she said as bent down to the animals level "I have bit of bread from my, supper last knight" she held out the bread to the animal.

After being kicked out of the kitchen Winkie just felt lost never had she been on a ship where she couldn't find something to do. She decided that she should find something to clean and keep herself busy so she wouldn't find herself walking the plank in the middle of the ocean. After the little ferret had run off with his owner the gunner, Winkie was left to her own devices. She started to sing to herself as she was on her knees scrubbing floors, her voice echoing off the hull of the ship. Slowly she moved along the floor and reaching the scrub brush into the bucket of water and bringing it out again running across the floor. The sounds of scrubbing and sloshing water moving in time with the song she was singing.

Winkie lifted up the bucket she was using to scrub floors bellow deck. When she walked into the room where James was working she didn't notice because he was in her blind spot. Thats when she tripped on a knot in the floor and the bucket crashed to the floor sending water across the floor "Damn it all!" she cursed thats when she noticed that there was a man in the room. "Oh bloody hell, I'm sorry sir I didn't know ye be in here, I'll clean up this mess right quick" she said in a nervous tone of voice this guy looked like he was important.

His papers and books strewn about the table in the room, she started worry that she might get a tongue lashing for this and scrambled to pick the wooden bucket. She pulled a bit of cloth from her belt and started to try to sop up the water that pooling on the floor. "Please sir forgive me as soon as I get this up I leave ya to yer work" thats when she glanced at what he was reading. "The Rocks is a hard thing to navigate" she said sheepishly.

((sorry I didn't see the post till after I had already posted))

Winkie nodded "Well sir the only reason I know of it was my past Captain bragged about sailing through. He was an old man who was on his last leg literally. He had a map of it and had showed me many times were it was" she said. The ship seemed to going smoothly now "well I guess that fool of a helmsman crashed into something" said Winkie. "My names Winkie by the way sir if ya be need'n anything just let me know" she picked up the bucket and headed for the door. "I'll leave ya to yer maps sir, you'll need all the concentration you can muster if we're head'n to the rocks".

Even Mama has paused in the kitchen, listening to Wink's song. She was stripped down to her bandages and shorts, bootless as well as she scoured every bit of wood she could find in that galley with her impressive brick of wax. By now she was dirty and that hair was hanging about her once-lovely face as she listened to the haunting song rising from the innards of the ship. Sooty fingernails would dig into the wax as a bit of sickness stirred in her stomach as she caught sight of the impressive twin scars stripping its way across her arm. No one ever really got to look at Mama close enough to realize that those scars came in pairs...Such a strange coincidence.

Either way, there wasn't much time for her thoughts to swim in as she was violently knocked from the counter she was standing on precariously, left to lay crumpled on the floor for a while near the stove. Ow. From the stove, courtesy of the smoke-pipe that ran to above deck, she'd hear the captain yelling at 'LeFarge' and 'LeFarge' doing his best to save his own hide. Twice a liar. Not a very good one either...If this captain was worth her words she expected LeFarge to be having the deep six before she could get any squid tales out of him.

There was a secret to being a great liar. Humility. Mama was a clever creature. She'd knew how to play her hand and she knew how to cheat, and the last couple of years had left her slippery as an eel. Be humble. Be under the radar. The cripple at the back burner. Though dutifully, she was up, dusting herself off and leaving that galley with a brisk limp as she heard James request the rope from this Ms. Winkie. Strange thing was that by the time the pretty lass made it to the ladder that lead to the cargo-bay of the ship, Mama was shouldering past her in the opposite direction and a length of rope was simply waiting by that ladder along with what looked like scrap wood and a sack that seemed to be completely stuffed with fibrous bullshit, effectively turning it into a firm pillow.

Not long later and Mama would already be at the rail, her tall thin frame bent over it as she eyed the struck side of the hull. It didn't look bad from up here, but leaving it to the fates surely wouldn't do. Accompanying her were just a few helpful tools she'd borrowed whilst toiling in the kitchens and two rather large disgusting looking buckets she'd run into during her meandering about below. Pitch and some other reisiny concoction. She hoped the pretty singing lass had the brain to bring that sack along as well. It was clear that whatever her position was, she knew all the ins and outs of dirty work on the ship. Her mohawk was practically standing in the front from the mixture of her sweat and soot and wax. Her hands really weren't much better...But there was something just a little charming about the barefoot lass and her soot scuffed face. And that hair, thick as could be despite the fact that it was only a portion of what she once had, lengthy and tangled, catching the breeze as she took a moment to wait for others that might be in on what had to be done. A moment to enjoy the smell of the sea over the smell of soot, wax, pitch, and herself.

Oddest thing yet was Mama wasn't even riled when gunshot sang out over that vessel. She simply stood there watching the side of the boat as she heard a scream. It was enough to chase her Lemur out and up onto her shoulders as it stared wide eyed back towards the entrance to the lower levels, clinging to her sooty mane. She'd simply croon at it and allow her gaze to wander in the same direction as his. That didn't sound good. Lefarge had a really girlish scream though.

"There is one thing you could get me, Ms. Winkie,"...

"A length of rope about ten/ fifteen yards long. If you can tie a few knots about every six inches or so, that would be wonderful. And some scrap wood too. It is a pleasure meeting your aquantince, Winkie."

Winkie smiled and nodded "Aye sir anything to get up off the floor, and I'm good with knots" she said with a courtly nod and headed out looking for what Jame had asked for.

If there was anything that was easy to find on a ship it was rope, but it was a matter of finding some that wasn't used for something. Winkie decided to check out one of the cargo holds for a bit of extra rope.

She sang to herself as she milled around the through crates of food, finally finding what James was looking for, so she sat down on a sack of onions and went to work tying the knots. Singing, as she works.

Well then. It seemed the knife Winkie had used as a child had poked all the way through her skull to the brain. She had the voice of a songbird. And the brain of one too it seemed. The moments ticked by for Mama after the commotion before finally she had enough, and swearing all the way under her breath she made her way right back down, even passing the girl sitting herself on a barrel and leisurely tying knots whilst singing. Again. The back of Agatha's remaining fingers itched to strike across the girls face, but alas, there was work to do and she wasn't in the business of teaching lessons. Atleast the beast that killed her own eye had left her bloody brain in tact. One brisk limp to the ladder and back would fetch the plainly lain out rope she had left for Winkie and the other supplies, Extra wood slung over her shoulder, rope and sack under her arm.

On her way back out, that Winkie was still singing. For heavens sake. They'd all be having a lovely meal of hardtack and gruel tonight, the lot of them. Lefarge would be getting an extra sodden biscuit in reward for throwing Mama about and causing her to have to do THIS kind of work.

James would find his plans to go rather smoothly as Mama had seemingly already instructed deck monkeys on what they should be doing to repair any possible damage, and the supplies were all right on hand. It just took someone brave enough to go over. Normally, Mama would have done it, but the fuming cook had decided that today she owed none of them any favors.

She was back down in her kitchen now, now that Oliver wasn't at the helm, chancing to light the coals and prepare a rather unsavory gruel. Gruel with dried lime powder. Even better. Bitter. As she waited for it to cook she'd be wiping down her arms legs and hair in a bucket of water she was keeping in case of fire, giving herself a rag bath as she cursed lightly under her breath. Eventually she'd get all that hair washed and she'd end up curled in the corner, watching that stove from a pile of burlap and old quilts. Damp and irritated. Alone, except the lemur snoozing on a counter top.

Winikie smiled as she tied the last knot in the rope, she reached over and picked up the bit of scrap wood and headed back to James. "Aye sir I brought what ya needed, I tired my best to make sure the knots were right" she said as she set down the bit and pieces that she was cradling. She walked over and looked around James shoulder "So sir ya think ya found a clear path yet" she asked. While standing there she heard a scream "What in Gods name was that?" she asked looking around the room but not sure where the sound was coming from she decided to shake it off. "So is there anything else ya be need'n", she asked.

Winkie nodded "Aye sir I'd be happy to help ya" after being released from Jame for the moment, she decided to try to find out what the scream was all about. On a ship this size their had to be a reason for it. But when she headed to the captains cabin she was turned away being told she could go in for now. She shook her head and decided to head on the deck. She was tired of being below, she wanted feel the breeze, and smell the salty sea air. She got up on deck everyone was doing their jobs as ordered, she she leaned on the railing watching the waves crash up against the boat humming to herself.
