An elite ex-military and CIA operator traveling the post-apocalpytic United States, helping those that he can.
Jason is generally a man of few words, speaking only when necessary. He generally maintains the serious, disciplined demeanor of a "quiet professional". His background in military and CIA special operations forces has led him to maintain a somewhat jaded outlook on the world.
However, Redfield is still altruistic at heart. With no government left to give him orders, he has taken it upon himself to help other survivors he finds in the course of his travels.
Even before the outbreak, Jason owned and maintained an impressive array of military-grade weaponry and equipment. This is still true, although the current situation and being constantly on the move has forced him to downsize considerably.
His primary weapon is a custom AR-15 chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. It has a 14.5" barrel and sports a variety of tan and black components. Various accessories are mounted on the rifle: an ACOG sight, a vertical foregrip which doubles as a bipod, a flash suppressor, tactical light/laser, and a sling.
Redfield's sidearm consists of a 4th Generation Glock 22 chambered in .40 S&W. It sports a tan frame, night sights, and a tactical light/laser sight.
An OKC-3S bayonet/fighting knife is Jason's melee weapon and utility blade of choice. He carries it upside-down in a vertical sheath on the front of his left shoulder.
Jace tends to dress in Multicam fatigues, with body armor and various other tactical gear. He carries spare provisions in a camouflage rucksack.
Jason was the middle child in a family of three sons born and raised in Georgia. His father was a strict but fair man; he had worked in black ops during and after the Vietnam War. His mother was a caring person up until the day she was killed in a mugging when Jason was only ten years old. From that day on, Redfield's father made the transformation to drill sergeant. Although he seemed rough and uncaring to anyone on the outside, and indeed, to his own sons at times, the truth was that he did this only to prevent the loss of another loved one. He had taught Jason the basics of gun handling ever since he was 4 years old, but after the death of his mother, Jace asked for real training.
Eventually, his father obliged. From that day forth, Redfield began to make the transformation into a human weapon. While J.R.'s brothers led mostly normal lives, his skills, mind, and body were honed. After graduating high school at seventeen, he looked to join the US Marine Corps. To his surprise, his father became furious. Jason continued to prod, until, finally, his father signed the necessary paperwork without a word. Jason left, and the two rarely spoke again. Jason enlisted in the USMC and quickly showed his merit. His combat skills and initiative impressed his superiors.
Thus, over the next several years, Redfield led a very successful military life, making his way through the rank-and-file. After completing training as a Marine Infantryman and Scout Sniper, he spent several years in Marine special operations forces: Force Recon, Maritime Special Purpose Force, Det One, and MARSOC. He fought through some of the fiercest battles of Afghanistan and Iraq during his time in the Corps, amassing an impressive file full of commendations. He achieved the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant before leaving the Corps and enlisting in the United States Navy.
He graduated from the SEAL selection and training process in short order, joining a SEAL Team for several months before being recruited into DEVGRU, otherwise known as SEAL Team Six. After several missions with the Tier One Special Missions Unit, it was not long before he was picked up by the CIA. He was quickly inducted into the Special Activities Division's Special Operations Group as a Paramilitary Operations Officer, showing promise in both intelligence-driven and paramilitary ops.
Jason was on leave when the outbreak began. He was quickly forced to leave his home state of Georgia. He has been wandering ever since...
