Ronan was born with the intention to give away. His parents, who spoiled him rotten, gave him everything he could ever want. In truth, Ronan was a mistake. As the parents of the little girl who was supposed to bring light to the world, Ronan was a place holder after a furtive exercise in primitive behavior. Tall,, dark, brooding. He seems to be every teenage girl's dream. At least, until they get to know him. As a mercenary, he carries the scars of his past on his body. Whip marks, surgeries, stitches, bloodied knuckles, broken nose. The only reason others don't see all this is because Shoku fixes it.

The Black Reaper

▐ The Inside
Ronan is many things, in the past he was a bit of a bully as an older brother, constantly picking on the little things his sister would do. In truth, it was because Ronan was jealous. His sister shined so brightly and in comparison, he was just a blight clinging to her for warmth. When Shoku took them, he played the role of the protector, constantly trying and failing to keep the only person he had left from being hurt. Shoku made it a game, taunting him, seeing how far he could go before Ronan would snap. A victim trapped within his own mind, Shoku uses a collar and medicine to suppress Ronan's true nature.

▐ Brutish
Most know him as the Black Reaper or Shoku's Dog. Like many light bearers who find themselves under the care of Ira Shoku, Ronan lost his mind to the drug that keep him in line. On days where his sanity is in tact he can be found ghosting the halls or haunting the one space he can call his own. For the most part, Ronan seems to have free reign of the building although he is only allowed to leave should he have a mission or assignment.

▐ Thinks with his Fists
The drugs suppress his mind, his ability to think and thanks to this Shoku has him wrapped around his little finger. Ronan constantly flickers between a free mind and one that has been encased in a fog so thick that he wouldn't be able to take one step without Shoku's direction. He has become dependent on the need to be ordered around, dependent on the drugs that form the fuzziness so that he doesn't have nightmares when he sleeps.

▐ Psychotic
In theory only. In truth, Ronan is a lover and a fighter. He doesn't intentionally look to make trouble, trouble just seems to find him.

ImageRonan, like many, came from a simple home. His parents didn't have much, but they did have each other. They worked for Ira Shoku and had birthed Ronan before realizing that their true destiny was to bear the child of prophecy. Ronan was spoiled rotten and when his little sister came around, he began to be a bit neglected, as was normal with the birth of a girl in any household. They doted on her, worried about her, fretted over every coo and cough. Ronan hated it, he hated the way they fawned over her big blue eyes and adorable little hands. He would pull her hair when they weren't looking, or make ugly faces so that she would cry. Loretta had unintentionally become his world, but for Ronan, it meant something far more sinister and ugly. The older brother would break her toys, he would push her when she was learning to walk and when that beautiful lotus blossom appeared on her stomach, well Ronan couldn't help but want to cut it off of her skin. He was a jealous little boy, but never before had Ronan realized the true burden that Loretta bore.
When his parents were killed and they were taken, he was full of so many regrets. He regretted not saying "I love you," to his family more often. He hated himself for every stupid gesture against his sister and began to try to protect her. Ronan would shield her from lashings, he would take the beating when they were being punished and would hold Loretta as she cried, promising her that he would be stronger, that he would get them out of there. Soon they were separated, each walking different paths towards destiny. Ronan saw Loretta less and less and he clung desperately to those memories, the ones where she smiled warmly, or forgave him for breaking her things, even when she shouldn't. She was always too gentle, but even something as simple as that began to be shunned from his mind as Shoku began Ronan's reprogramming.
They were not allowed interaction, what little he saw of Loretta he began to regret. She was kept under lock and key, hardly allowed any small freedoms. Shoku had taken everything from her, from them. Then, one day, when Ronan saw her face, he realized he no longer had any idea who she was. She was a shell, eyes wide and empty, body limp, hair gone, frame far too skinny. She stared at him, unseeing, unflinching at the monster he was becoming.
It was in that moment that Ronan too, broke.

So begins...

Drip, drip, drip.

The sound was maddening. The child watched, expressionless and slack jawed as the liquid snaked through the tube, meandering into her chest. The soft hum of machines filled the air, one of the many that sustained her in this place. It was a large room, opaque curtains draped around the space that encased her. Few were authorized to enter the cordoned area, as maintaining isolation was of most importance. Those that did come in contact or spoke soothing words were erased from her mind with a large dose of anesthetic.

And so she spent most days numb.

Beep, beep, beep

The subject turned her head, watching the other machine. This one had little lines that jumped up and down, like green hills that painted the black landscape. It was steady, rhythmic, it reminded her of dancing. Dancing, two people carrying her in their arms and spinning and circles and then, what was that? Just like that, the memory was gone. What was dancing? She wondered as the curtain rustled and two of them entered. They wore the same white uniforms, masks obscuring their faces. They were the ghosts that haunted her dreams, the ones that came to poke and prod and take blood. Sometimes a taller, brooding man was with them, sometimes a boy with white hair who looked on with disinterest but sneaked glances when he thought no one was looking.

"Are you sure?" The voice buzzed in her ear, loud in her otherwise quiet room. "Affirmative," they spoke in clipped sentences, getting the point across in three words or less. Always three words or less. It was only the dark one that went on in great monologues about futures and things the subject didn't understand. One held her head, the other snaking the tube up her nose. This was something they did once a day to deliver nutrition to her stomach. She could hear the pulsating rush of blood through the hands that held her and it called out to her.

"Heart rate's rising."

Swoosh!

"Subject is stable."

She felt the warmth of it in her throat, the gnawing in her stomach slowly ebbing to nothing. They left, the lights suddenly blaring red. This was new, new and unfamiliar and there was something warm in her veins luring her towards sleep. Her heart rate rose once more, unfamiliar, she didn't like it. It was loud, she didn't like it. She wanted them to make it stop. She wanted the red lights to go back to white, the glaring noise to be replaced by the beautiful silence that always filled her safe little square.

Ronan stopped the attack, he cut through the cloud the two light bearers floated on, his lips turning upright into a grin. "Ronan," Shoku said, his voice a sweet trickle. "Capture, but don't kill." The boy's shoulders slumped, slightly deflated at the revelation that he would not be able to squeeze the lives out of these two. Shoku's image flickered, it was suddenly apparent that he had never stepped foot in that hallway. "You heard the boss," Ronan licked his lips, his eyes flickering red. "Capture, don't kill!" Ronan leaped, on the attack, blood tales sprouting from his back at an alarming rate. While the Freedom Fighters might not have had experience in killing, Ronan had plenty.

❝Stand up, stand up, the Little Sinner stands before you now!❞

|| Let the Flames Begin || Paramore ||

And just like that, the dragon was stopped in it's tracks. Fox created a barrier of fire to block the blood tails striking at them. "Nemi, watch out." Fox warned, grabbing Aria and knocking her to the floor to avoid the Black Reaper's attack. "It's him again." Ira Shoku was very good at training his pawns - according to Raven Loretta would be the strongest of all once completed - but Ronan - or better known as the Black Reaper, he was a dread to fight as well. "Hah, it's two on one! Unless your boss wants to join the party?" As strong as the Black Reaper was, he couldn't win against the two of them! They had the power of magical love - okay, no, keep the Little Sinner out of it, she's not needed here right now.

"Hah!" An illusion was made and Aria masked herself in invisibility. It was Raven's order that they didn't kill either Ronan or Loretta. The plan was to take them both home safely if at all possible. "You won't get past me." The Fox growled, the metal around them hissing as the heat threatened to warp the structure they were in. A signal of mental distress echoed through, hoping to catch Damian's watchful eye. The plan was compromised, with Ronan here the two of them wouldn't be able to get to Loretta's tank. Flames fought with blood but Aria was going around the battle - or so she thought when suddenly a tail struck at her, catching her in the shoulder. The idol let out a gasp and thrust herself at the wall to pull free. "Kuh, how did you do that?" Ira Shoku merely glowered from safety as he pressed a button on a wall. "I suppose neither of you are strong enough to defeat me yet, pawns."

Aria flung herself forward - like hell she was letting him go! - but a blood tail snaked around her torso and slammed her into the ceiling. "Weak." The Black Reaper taunted and Nemesis hissed, her spider lily glowing with might. "Make a distraction so Xavier can get to the tank!" Damian ordered and Aria knew exactly what to do. "Fox, now!" She screamed as she created a blast of air at the floor's foundations, causing it to collapse. Fox dashed forward to grab her and then sprinted past Ronan, back to where the elevator was. "Don't follow us, we'll be back for you later." The Fox grinned as he blocked the path with fire - the escape was burning now, Ronan would likely be buried alive or have to wade through the inferno to escape the falling Tokyo Tower.

"The tank has been secured." Damian declared and Aria grinned, nursing the puncture in her shoulder. She was still too weak, she needed to get stronger if she wanted to beat the Black Reaper. "Let's go home." According to the plan, Xavier would take Loretta to the Freedom Fighter's base in Odaiba. After all, Raven would be too busy, and she didn't want the Matriarch realizing what had just happened, not if she wanted Loretta to be the surprise ace in the hole against the doll-obsessed woman. Of course, Hime's sister, Mayumi, would be advising them on how to get Loretta out of the tank. She was the world's best expert on light and darkness, she could play with the two as if they were putty. If anyone could do it, it was her.

Kissing one last time for now, Aria and the Fox parted ways. He was a HIVE member after all, not a Freedom Fighter. So gliding in on a cloud, Aria greeted Xavier who was already setting up the call with Hime and Mayumi. "And the heroine returns." She grinned cheerfully as Leo rushed in. "What heroine? You could have died, look at all the blood you've lost!" Blood loss? Aria glanced down - oh. When had Ronan stabbed her in the waist? "It doesn't even hurt. Lemme see, lemme see the girl." She pushed past Leo's concern to stare. Suddenly, a name appeared in her head as if it was magic.

"She looks like a Yui." The idol decided before she passed out on the spot.

It hurt, it was agonizing as her safe little space burst into action and sound. The machines beeped, the hum and hiss off anesthetic shot into her veins to calm her. Through bleary eyes the subject watched, a boy taken aback at her presence.
"I guess that makes things easier," he murmured, lifting her beneath the knees and upper back. She flinched and he smiled, "hey, it's okay. I'm here to rescue you."

Rescue?

What did that mean? What existed outside of these four curtained walls? A dizzying feeling made her head spin as he lifted her off of the bed she had been laying on for what felt like all of her life. She squirmed, the minimal movements she could make exhausting her. "Don't move." He held her close, wrapping her in his jacket and just like that they were gone. There were people there, waiting. They clapped as the boy placed her on the new bed, this one softer, the sheets not as starchy. "Wait,
she's not in the tank?" They spoke in sentences longer than three words, making hand gestures, wearing no masks.

They were noisy, excitable. Her head lulled to the side, the anesthetic beginning to take effect. "Shh, it's alright," her vision blurred as a hand brushed one of the tubes coiling out of her chest. "It's okay, you're free now."

Free?

A foreign word. The subject's eyes closed and she drifted off into a peaceful world devoid of sound and noise. Around her the room was abuzz, alight with excitement at the successful mission. "Aria!" Xavier caught the idol, easing her down. The Doc and his son, Leo, had arrived early after their shift at the hospital. "Here, see if you can make sense of this," Xavier handed them a file. "She was supposed to be in a tank-"

"I think I figured out why." Damian cut him short. The two stared at the light bearing mark, ringed in black. Darkness had begun to infiltrate the lotus blossom on her naval, something none of the Freedom Fighters had ever seen. "Yui," Damian stroked her forehead, "I like it." The Doc worked to stabilize Aria and treat the Fox, who was flushed from his encounter with the Black Reaper. Xavier shook his head and smiled, Leo was working on removing things, taking off the nodes from the heart monitor and the blood pressure cuff while the Doc attached Aria to each. Their base was small, a house really, on the edge of Odaiba, close to the sea. It was three floors, although unassuming, the top one having been set up to contain this girl whose abilities and temperament were vastly unknown.

"So we just keep her here and wait for Raven?" Damian inquired, his fingers brushing the odd feather's on the girl's ears. "I don't think she's going to be too happy about us renaming her." Xavier shifted as Damian spoke.

"Something doesn't sit right." He confessed, "How did Raven know about her? And how can someone so small be a threat to anyone?" Neither boy had the answer. "Alright, let's move her upstairs." The third floor was more an attic that had been refurbished. It sealed off completely, should they need it to and the small window had a view of the sea, the road in tatters after years of misuse. Xavier carried her up the ladder, Leo tethering monitors behind him up the small set of steps.

"How's Aria?" Damian asked the Doc, clearly concerned.

"Stable, I've given her blood and I expect with her spryness, she'll make a full recovery." That was a relief.

"Okay, she's all set up," Leo announced and slowly the subject came to. Where was she? There was light shining onto the bed, but this light was different. It was warm, with none of the artificial harshness she was used to in the lab. Her body was clad in a gown, another new sensation. It crinkled against her skin, like a blanket, but softer. The subject visibly tensed, then relaxed several times as she came to terms with her new surroundings. "Hey there," a voice called out to her. Less than three words. The subject turned her head, taking in the figures at her bed side. "The vocals were cut, but I should be able to fix that," Leo informed him.

More than three words.

"My name is Xavier. Do you have a name?" The subject did not respond. Her gaze seemed empty, dull, devoid of life. Leo opened up the file, his brow furrowing with every word. "This isn't humane, this is a horror story." He jumped to the last page, the one detailing the final few updates. "It looks like they took her out of the tank about a week ago." He whispered and the subject on the bed tensed once more. "What is it?" Xavier held her hand, he stroked her inner arm and her heart rate slowed at his gentleness. Comfort was a sensation she had never known. "Aria named you Yui. Do you like that?" Her heart rate jumped, Xavier assumed that was a yes.

Yui, a name for the one who had gone without one for so long. She struggled in the bed, what the others would soon call her 'victory dance.' It was the first step of many towards healing.

It burned, the sensation filled her head as blood bubbled out from the eye socket, a large slash visible across her face. Yui cried out in pain as Xavier set her down. Her breath coming out in uneven gasps, knees shaking as the strange sensation infiltrated her senses.

So this was pain.

It was something that Yui never wanted to experience again if she could help it. They still had a few hundred feet to cover, but Yui could not go on any longer. Her knees buckled and she fell into the snow, blood bubbling as it melted the cold white powder. Xavier yanked Yui back to her feet, holding her carefully so as not to get plasma on himself. "Yui is... hurting." She swallowed as she replied to Aria's inquiry and Xavier nodded. "I know, we're almost there, hang on a little longer." Yui whimpered, attempting to close the hurt eye. "Hurts," she mewled, the door to the hideout bursting open. She could hear Damian in her mind, telling her that it was going to be alright. They were safe now.

Safety was relative.

The Doc was rushing downstairs not two minutes later, pulling on a clean pair of scrubs. "Damian told me, come on," Xavier handed Yui off to him like a stuffed animal being passed between two children. The Doc tenderly placed her on the bed, turning around to grab his tools. Yui unzipped her jacket, so warm she was suffocating. She tore off the wig and winter cap and ripped away her mittens. Ronan's blood was poisonous, just like Yui's, it had the potential to wreck havoc in more ways than one. "I'm going to start by neutralizing the poison," the Doc explained, his hands cold, even through the thick gloves he wore. "I'm also gonna give you an anesthetic so you won't feel anything," he injected her in the cheek, hoping to neutralize the poison as quickly as possible. Next was the anesthetic, the Doc started an IV and began pushing through a thick, opaque liquid. "There's going to be some burning, but it'll be short. Do you know numbers yet?" Yui nodded slowly, already feeling the effects. "Good, count as high as you can for me."

"1...2...3......."

Yui was asleep just like that. The Doc grimaced as he began to intubate, making sure that Yui's vitals were stable. He locked the door to keep the environment sterile, opening the wound a bit to clean it and then stitching the large cut shut. Every tool that touched her blood eroded, almost crumbling in his hands. He was glad for the thick gloves he wore, he would have to devise some tools that could withstand the acid content, or whatever it was that corroded the materials.

The Doc hated to think it, but it was more than likely that Yui would never see out of that eye again. Of course, he didn't know about Yui's stellar healing factor, or the fact that she could regenerate limbs. Each stitch was carefully placed, the poor girl would have to live with the scar for the rest of her life, but if it meant protecting those that cared for her, Yui would gladly lose her other eye. "There, all done," the Doc whispered, removing his facial mask. He bandaged the wound and placed an eye patch over the damaged eye. While she was still asleep, the Doc took the opportunity to draw blood and then checked her light bearing mark. He pulled up her skirt, noticing that the small amount of darkness had grown ever so slightly.

He would have to tell Leo to keep an eye on it.

"Okay, she's all done." Doc unlocked the door, Xavier having been waiting outside while he worked. The others were loudly debating downstairs, the house lively despite the fact that they had just nearly died. "How is she?" Xavier asked, lifting Yui off of the bed. The Doc had other patients to treat after all. "She's going to be hurting for awhile, but I expect she'll make a full recovery. I'm going to give these to you, see to it that you or Damian are the only ones that give it to her." He didn't trust Aria to handle pain medication. Xavier nodded, "Of course," he pocketed the pills and carried Yui downstairs to the couch. "Midori, go have that cut looked at. Aria, next time I say don't engage, it doesn't mean try to sacrifice yourself." He flicked her forehead, "moron, it's like you never want to perform again or something."

"Ronan, you've failed me." The white haired boy hung his head, kneeling in front of the man behind the desk. The Minister of Japan rose to his feet, looming over his lackey menacingly. "Oh look, you've been hurt," Ira knelt down, stroking Ronan's cheek. He pushed his nail into the cut, causing Ronan to hiss with pain. "Next time you fail it's going to be much worse," he threatened, applying the electric cuff that utilized light to heal wounds. "I'm sorry Sir," Ronan looked down, used to the painful buzz he associated with healing.

"Don't apologize to me!" Ira snapped, "do better next time! Then maybe we'll see some results!" Ronan's hands balled into fists. "I have information," he said quietly.

"On what? That deli you stalk the windows of?" Ronan shook his head, he only stalked the deli because of a memory that haunted him, one he couldn't quite place. That deli, after all, used to be a clinic. "I found her," Shoku froze, a grin blossoming on his lips. "Those wounds," Ronan nodded. She was the only one who had ever been able to oppose Ira's most beloved puppet. "Well, I must say Ronan, this changes things. What was she like? Tell me, was she glorious?"

"She was... different. She could speak." Shoku laughed, the sound unpleasant. "Of course they would fix that. What else?"

"She wanted to know what she was."

"And?"

"I told her she was like me."

"You fool!" Shoku slammed Ronan's nose with his knee. "She's nothing like you, she's better, the best there is. I created her, I would know." The white haired boy held his nose as blood poured out of both nostrils. "Don't you dare get blood on the carpet boy." Shoku threatened. "Who was she with? Who are the ones harboring her?"

"The air user, the matter transporter, the fire wielder, and Haruka." Shoku's laughed filled the air, a sound so vile that it caused chills on even the most hardened politicians. "So, it seems my daughter is having a party and forgot to invite her dearest dad." He grinned, "Ronan, next time you encounter that group, I want you to engage to the fullest extent. Capture them all through any means necessary, they're clearly important to her if she's willing to fight to protect them. They'll make great pieces to my collection." Shoku licked his lips and adjusted his glasses. "And Ronan?"

"Yes sir?"

"Do stop stalking the deli, you're going to draw attention to yourself."

Xavier grabbed them all, as many as he could and in one fell swoop, he leaped. It was the biggest one he had ever done and it was enough to make him crumple when they returned to the safe house, all of them in one piece. "That was close!" Damian fell back on the couch. Jenny's gun was still smoking and Yui wiggled out of Aria's arms. Allyana was quiet and Yui wasn't sure if it was shock or the fact that she was generally unimpressed with their hideout. Yui took the pocket dictionary out of her coat and flipped through it, standing in front of Allyana Vorkov. "Yui wants..." she looked through the pages, trying to find the right word. "Yui wants to be friend!" She smiled, holding out her hand in the hopes that Allyana would accept her proposal.

Yui heard snickering behind her, but she remained determined, hand outstretched. "I'll go make some snacks," Damian stood as Jenny helped Xavier onto the couch. Damian was going to check other things too, like whether or not the Black Reaper was still at the warehouse. He turned on the holo screen in his room and sank into the chair, making a slow circle and switching through to use the security cameras positioned throughout Tokyo. The Reaper was no longer there, him and his convoy having moved out already. Damian breathed a sigh of relief, it looked as though their drop off location had been compromised, he would have to inform Hime as such. Damian began composing the letter, updating her on their new refugee and requesting the papers once more for a larger allowance.

"There, done." The telepath stood, going to the kitchen to fix up some snacks and tea to help them all recover from their near brush with death. "I swear, he doesn't give up," it looked as though the Reaper was out for blood, out for Yui's blood specifically. Was it revenge for managing to land a few good blows? Perhaps it was something more sinister?

"Hungry? I made tea," Damian set the cups down on the kotatsu table, pouring the perfectly brewed liquid into each. "I made biscuits, there's more than enough for seconds." Jenny helped Xavier over, the two of them practically collapsing on top of each other on pillows. Damian averted his eyes, not wanting to intrude on such a private moment. Yui bound over as well, taking a seat despite the fact that she wouldn't touch anything on the table, she just liked being with them all.

"I checked the mission logs, there doesn't seem to be anything new today. I think it would be good for all of us to rest anyhow, Yui, when Allyana's done, why don't you show her to her room?" Yui nodded happily, "Mhm!" Xavier looked up at Aria, seeming a bit pale. "Don't look so mournful, you'll get your chance to fight him."

Aria felt uneasy, she wanted Yui with her just in case because the one time she took her eye off of the fish was the time Yui was taken away. There was always a risk that that could happen again. But Hime and the Matriarch both expressed the need for Aria to be on the front lines if she wanted to rescue Mizuki in time. For some reason there was activity happening inside the camp and Aria wasn't sure what was going on, but she needed to get to the bottom of it before it was too late. She was donned in her school uniform, with a traditional-themed coat for warmth, and a mask to protect her identity. The Kasamino Academy uniform was entirely for Mizu's sake, so that Mizu would recognize her even with the mask on. "My job is to be the spear that breaks their formation." Aria was the strongest of them, she would be their wrecking ball. "I'll be at her side, naturally." Fox said, wearing his own fox mask to go with her.

"Remember, Yui." Aria warned before she left to the front. "If we lose you, I'm flushing Ping down the toilet, so you better not get kidnapped again."

Luckily Ally would be right there at Yui's side. In the past week, when Ally wasn't in dreams or bugging cats, she was training. Training to be strong - probably never as strong as Jenny, but strong enough to be worth her own salt. The girl was learning guns, though she didn't want to kill so she had tranquilizer darts in her custom-made gun instead, thanks to her father's genius engineering smarts. Her aim was above average for beginners, so hopefully she and Yui together would be a good duo for the evacuation squad. Aria stood at the forefront with Raven in her new baby, raving to go. Fox was with her as well. The three of them were the front line, with HIVE agents and secondary freedom fighters from Hime's undersea base assisting from the sides.

Facing them was the famed General Matsuoka, one of Shoku's more decorated allies. This man fought and defended them from China's attack in the Chinese-Japanese war of 2030, around ten years ago. He definitely had experience against China's mech suit armies, but was he prepared for light bearers and an army of criminals bearing military-grade arms stolen from Setagaya? Not to mention the Ionic Tank Raven created, it was finally ready for action. Raven took the microphone, grinning from ear to ear.

"People of Camp Epsilon, rejoice! Your saviors are here to save the day!" She shouted as the twin dragons of fire and wind rose up into the sky as a symbol of rebellion. "After all these years, it's time to stand up and fight!" The dragons burst forward, rushing right at the military battalion where the General stood like a shield wall to guard the camp. "Go." Raven said to Aria and the Fox. "I'll command the troops, you guys do your thing." The Black Reaper was here too, eager to get a piece of the action. Don't engage was Hime's order, but Raven wasn't under Hime's jurisdiction.

So she fired a railgun shot from her tank right at the Black Reaper who blocked it with his blood tails. "Idiot, it's electricity, blood conducts electricity too!" Not as well as seawater, but better than water because of the iron. The Black Reaper got a taste of electricity but somehow he seemed to shrug it off. It was enough electricity to take out a bull, so how was he still standing? "Shoku must have taught you well, then." She opened the top of her tank and glared at him. Aria and Fox were directly engaging the General, so it was up to Raven to handle the Black Reaper.

"It's been a long time, brother." She whispered to herself, thinking of days long past, of days that could have been. "I'm your opponent today, Reaper. Just try and kill me." And so Raven flooded Ronan's mind with seeds, each one screaming at him to obey her and shed the shackles that bonded him to Ira Shoku's control.

Someone was knocking on the door. Who could it be, who was banging? Mizuki sadly, wasn't burnable like a book so there was no such thing as a perfect hiding place, but the girl's bathroom was as good a place as any, right? Even if someone came in they'd have to check every stall and by then she could sneakily escape while they're busy distracted by the stalls. The knocking grew more incessant but then the door was blown down. Someone entered and then Mizu had the strangest feeling. So she peeked out from the top, standing on her tippie toes on the toilet seat.

That wasn't an labor slave at all.

"Natsuo?"

"Yui will be safe!" She promised, giving Aria a thumb's up and a grin. The little fish dug into her pocket, taking out an envelope and pushing it into Aria's hands. "Luck," Yui said quietly, the severity of the situation hitting her hard. The Meiji Jingu had, had a box full of those lucky envelopes. Yui had only gone there once, but hadn't returned due to the aura surrounding it. She felt as though she didn't belong in someplace so holy. Her, a street rat with only a rag-tag group of stray cats to call her friends. So Yui had stayed away after taking two lucky envelopes, knowing that if she ever opened them, they would no longer be lucky. "Um, Yui is going to... protect! Yui will protect friends." They would be rescuing whoever they could out of the labor camp but that didn't guarantee that they could save them all. Even the runt understood the severity of breaking into a place like this, especially with the Black Reaper present.

Her's and Ally's jobs were mainly by the gate, away from the fighting. They were to protect those the HIVE and FF saved from the Enforcers and round them up onto the buses. Yui's heart raced as she thought about the implications of being seen, what could happen if any of them were taken. Not only as light bearers, but as law breakers. They would be punished heartily, Ira Shoku would not hold back his rage. Yui swallowed hard as she clambered into the car, leaving Ping behind to guard the house. Damian gently helped Yui put on her gloves and she wiggled her fingers, not liking how confining they were. "Remember what Leo said," he whispered. Leo had gone to work this morning of course, he had a real life and a job with obligations to the hospital as a future Doctor. Just like his Father, Leo was going to go into General Surgery, an intensive, high demand career.

The gates slowly opened, Yui stood outside in the howling snow as the sun began to rise, casting shadows across the ground. She shivered, glad that she would not have to go inside of the camp and see what conditions these miserable labor slaves were living in. Ally stood beside her, gun cocked and at the ready. Yui had her blood sword, although she didn't anticipate needing it. Ally wore a rabbit mask, one that only covered half of her face, obscuring from the nose and up. Yui did not wear one, her sensory issues did not allow it and so she donned a medical mask that covered her nose and mouth, hiding at least some of her identity. It was one of Ally's cosplay tools really, Yui was just borrowing it for the mission.

It didn't take long for the refugees to begin pouring through the gates. They stumbled over themselves, some bloodied due to the riot they had thrown, others carrying weapons to defend themselves from the enforces. "Remember what we're supposed to say?" Ally inquired, giving a shove to a boy that had fallen. "Come on, keep moving, the bus is that way," Yui yelled it over the crowd, her throat scratching after what seemed like the thousandth time. "The bus is that way! Bus that way! The bus is that way!" Most listened, others were simply cattle following the crowd.

Ronan could sense her, he could feel the girl the same way that she most likely could feel the pulsating of blood in his veins. His plasma cried out for revenge, but his orders were strict. Ronan had a mission of course, she would have to wait until the hour was ripe for the picking.

Like calls to like.

He speared three pesky humans before the real meal came. The gates were shot down and standing before him was a tank with a girl inside. She shot something at him, but it hardly tickled his senses. Ronan's nostrils flared, his eyes becoming consumed in a ring of red. He turned towards the girl, feeling something in the back of his mind. "Stay out of my head!" Ronan growled, tails lashing similarly to whips overtaken by the wind. Ronan lunged, an animal like roar in the back of his throat. His tails lashed out, but it seemed the girl was smart and retreated to the inside of her tank. Ronan's collar buzzed in warning, he couldn't afford to let anymore tails lose, lest he wanted to pass out. So he pulled back, just a little bit, going for those that surrounded the tank. He split them in two, unraveling their innards like jump ropes as he threw them at the tank. Ronan grinned a sickening grin, "You won't win!" He cackled, "not against me!"

Natsuo was here. Why was her big brother here? "Mizuki." He breathed, relief coming on his face in droves. Mizu opened the stall door and stepped out. She had already stolen someone else's pants so that her mark wouldn't be visible, thankfully. "I'm here. What are you doing here?" She flashed a silly little smile. "This is the girl's bathroom, silly, you should leave!" Natsuo wasn't going to laugh at her amazingly genius joke though, how lame was that. "Don't you hear? There's a riot, the slaves are fighting back." He looked pale, and Mizu could smell the smoke coming off of his gun. "I'm getting you out of here, and then I'm going to take you to the Freedom Fighters. We're going to find someone named Hime, she'll be able to protect you." He paused in consideration but then continued. "Aria's there too, she's been a Freedom Fighter this whole time."

Well, naturally that was the case. Why else would she have never visited this whole time? Mizu had already guessed her big sister joined the rebellion, so this wasn't news to her. The riot, however, was. "An outbreak? They wouldn't be this reckless, Natsuo, that's just dumb." There have been previous attempts but Matsuoka always ended them with force before the slaves could become any danger to anyone. This time that wasn't happening. "So the Freedom Fighters are here." She shook her head then. "I'm the Bearer, Natsuo, if I'm with the Freedom Fighters, won't that put them in danger?" The girl was a strategist, unlike Aria who held the title simply for respect purposes, Mizuki was an expert thanks to all of the games she used to play. Well now she'd have two years worth of games to catch up on. "Shoku will probably focus on the Cocoon first."

Cocoon was the official title for the ear-feathered girl, because she was just a cocoon which would one day hatch and give birth to something greater. Of course, only Mizu knew the exact steps to make it work. Shoku had a good part of it done, but if he didn't want to screw up the Ultimate Weapon idea, he needed the Prophecy. At this point Yui hadn't awakened, so if she ended up dying again there was a risk she would simply die and the Light Seed would go dormant until another fated person was set to be born. "This jailbreak was a dumb idea. The most important thing is to protect the Cocoon!" Well, right now wasn't the best time to discuss things anyways. So Natsuo picked her up like a sack of potatoes. "We can continue this later, but for now, we have to go." Gun in one hand, sister in the other, Natsuo got to work.

Until another gun showed up right next to his face in the dark hall of the abandoned barracks. It belonged to a very feminine looking man with teal hair. "Hello, Bearer." He said in that silky voice of his. Natsuo raised his gun but then there was a very threatening click. "Why don't you come with me, and no one has to get hurt." K said, crinkling his eyes in a genuine smile. "You wouldn't want anything to happen to that sister of yours, do you?" Mizu knew it was best not to reveal that she was the real Oracle. She could, however, do this. "I'm a light bearer." She tore a hole in her new pants with a sad sort of sigh, revealing the dim glow of the Puppet. "If you don't want me to show you my power, let me and the Oracle go."

The flames were clearing a path, though the camp was already alight and it wasn't because of the Fox. The campers themselves did this, burning up Camp Epsilon in a blaze of rebellion. "Down with Shoku! "The armed ones cried. "We won't live oppressed any longer!" They were fighting carefully, only shooting from behind cover against the few guards still in the place. The main military force guarding Camp Epsilon was stuck outside, dealing with the duo of Aria and Fox as they fought to gain access to the camp proper. "We gotta go fast, Fox, I don't want to do all this just to find a burnt corpse for a sister!" He nodded, flicking a finger to generate a wall of flames at General Matsuoka. "Please excuse us, we have more important things to do than to play with you."

"I assume this is about Mizuki, isn't it?" Matsuoka grinned, already ordering soldiers to extinguish the flames set up by Foxie. "Well, you should know that she's very safe under my care." A perverted look rose on his face, the depravity of General Matsuoka finally showing through. "For being so underdeveloped, she is very attractive, I must say. Do you want to see the images? There's her first period, or when she changes, or when she's peeing..." Fury rose up in Aria as if she were a madwoman and she lunged and then almost instantly was caught in an electric net. What an idiot to have fallen into a trap. She hissed, screaming and raging against the net but to no avail. Fox growled, ready to attack but Matsuoka's grin only widened. "Don't have any funny ideas. Surrender now or I'll raise the voltage so that the bird will never fly again." What could he do? What could he do?

This time, Raven wasn't able to be the one to jump in for the save. No, she was busy dealing with the Black Reaper himself, to keep him from targeting anyone that might not be able to handle him. "You will obey my commands, Reaper." She yelled from the tank, a speaker transmitting it so that he could hear. "Don't think you stand a chance against me." This tank was built to assault the Roppongi Building, so what did the Reaper think he could do without mass explosives to fight back? Blood? Maybe against unarmored humans, but against a giant metal tank? He could just kiss his hopes goodbye.

But her soldiers were dying, and that was bad. If she lost too many men, she wouldn't be able to stand against her, well, her other enemies besides Ira Shoku. She needed to preserve them, somehow. So Raven stepped out of her tank, waving her railgun. "Stop massacreing the weak ones." She said flippantly, aiming the weapon right at her target. "You should focus fire on me instead." So the Black Reaper charged and this very well would mean death. But a vine suddenly tripped him up and some of the smoke cleared to reveal Tsukasa, with Midori on his back. "I'm only here to repay a debt, Raven." He growled, holding up a slew of heavy duty weapons like the crime lord he was. "So don't think we're allies here." Midori giggled despite her fear of the Black Reaper.

But even then, he was still too strong. Even like this the Reaper could slaughter the three of them. But it wasn't just the three of them, there was still someone else. With a resounding crack someone seemed to materialize right behind Ronan, landing a sharp kick right to the back of his head. Xavier, wearing a mask that made him look like a wild beast looking to kill. "That was for Jenny." He yelled, kicking again. "Die, just die!" But this was precisely what Raven was planning for. As Xavier pummeled the now unconscious Ronan, Raven stuck him in the back with a syringe stolen from her very own mother's stores, sending Xavier into a slump. She dialed up Damian. "The plan worked. The package is secured." She sighed, slightly surprised she was still alive. "I don't know how you knew he'd show up like this, Damian, but good job."

The brief distraction of tranquilizing Xavier was enough time for a blood tail to snake up and skewer her through the gut, intestines spilling out her front. The Reaper wasn't asleep, and even if all the bones in his limbs were shattered, his tails were lethal enough to still get his target.

It seemed as though all of the refugees were out, but Yui didn't see Aria and she hadn't seen the little girl that Ari had described. "Yui go in!" Ally nodded, "I'll come too." Together they made their way past the fires and into the burning building, splitting up. Yui headed to the left, running down the hall, past dead Enforcers and prisoners who hadn't made it out. Yui urged them to leave, feeling nauseous at the sight of all of the bodies. The child shook her head, needing to find that little girl. Several gunshots rang out from across the way, Yui assumed that was Ally and hoped that she wouldn't encounter any trouble. She turned a corner, coming across a scene that Yui wouldn't soon forget.

It was the girl, being held by an Enforcer, who was being trapped by K. Silent as a mouse, Yui tip toed up behind the purple hair figure, recalling how they had threatened Yui and her family before. She used the blunt side of her sword to hit against the pressure point in the neck, watching as K crumpled. Yui knew this man, she wasn't sure from where, but this enforcer was familiar. It struck her then that he looked similar to Aria. "Brother? Aria brother?" She asked, trying to sound threatening and mysterious but through the mask her voice came out a bit muffled. "Yes, I'm on your side," he nodded and Yui ushered them to follow her, ear feathers glistening in the low light. Yui grinned, feeling victorious. She had gotten the girl! Aria was going to be so very happy! Yui shook her head, she had to focus and get them out of here.

A few more twists and turns and after fending off a few Enforcers, Yui brought them out into the open, where Damian was waiting with a getaway van. "Good job Yui," he gave her a high five and offered a wave to Mizuki. "Hello there, remember me? I'm Damian, one of Aria's friends." Natsuo placed Mizuki inside of the maintenance truck, which was quite large and had plenty of room for them plus the equipment. "Damian," Natuso nodded, Damian waved and silently the boy went. Yui removed her mask, breathing in relief at the feel of the cold on her skin. She returned her sword to her body and wiggled her gloves off, offering a hand to Mizuki to shake. "Hello, Yui is friend Aria." She attempted to explain, doing her best to be friendly. Would Aria still want Yui around? Would she still consider the little fish family if Mizuki was here? Yui hoped so, she didn't want their nightly snuggle tradition to be impeded, it would be lonely.

Several gunshots rang out, deafening even with all of the fighting going on outside. Matsouka dropped like a rock as the tranquilizers deposited into his bloodstream, enough to put out a moose. Surely it would be an overdose, but Ally didn't consider these things when she saw Aria trapped and the Fox in no position to help. "Surprise," Ally said, receiving the signal from Damian that it was time to go, they couldn't afford to be here any longer, soon the back up Enforcer's would arrive in droves and when they did the Freedom Fighters would be cornered. "We got them all out and Yui went to check for stragglers." Ally said, seeming cocky as she slung her gun over her shoulder, squealing like a child when she accidentally hit the trigger.

Ronan was angry. His bones hurt, his body ached, but still, his fury permeated the air, spearing Raven through the stomach. Unfortunately for him, Raven's genetic signature was still programmed into his collar and therefore, Ronan could not hurt Raven without consequence. He choked as he felt the piercing in his neck, the stab that meant he had done the wrong thing. Ronan let Raven drop and his tails went mad, lashing at anything within five hundred feet of him. He clawed at the snow, attempting to rise, but Xavier had beaten the bloody hell out of him and combined with the hallucinogen, Ronan was at his most helpless. So his tails protected him, forming a barrier around his body that nothing would be able to get through. "Die," Ronan managed to hiss before he passed out.

"You never learn, do you?" He awoke to lights shining in his eyes. Ronan did not cower despite the claw that reached down to grab him from the snow. It carried him up into the helicopter and deposited him on the ground. Shoku wasn't there, but his voice was, a holo eyeing Ronan with clear disappointment. "The camp is in ruins Ronan and I only asked one thing of you. You let your rage get the better of you again." He was shoved onto a stretcher between several enforcers and a paramedic, who strapped him down. Ronan swallowed, feeling the weight of the electric cuff on his arm. It would heal him, but not without consequence. "I did... what you asked," Ronan panted, struggling to breathe with the straps holding him down. He felt claustrophobic, as though he was back inside of that cage.

"You could have killed her!" He was talking about Haruka of course, the daughter he loved despite the fact that she despised him. "I implanted... the tracker," he heaved. Ronan had even used some bodies as paint, turning her tank into a bloodied mess. "You've failed me once more Ronan, I can't let this go unpunished." Ronan closed his eyes, he knew it was coming, he knew what was coming.

There was a chill in his bones despite the warmth. The enforcers lifted the stretcher out of the helicopter and began rolling it into the elevator of a nondescript building. Down several levels they went, until they were beneath the ground. Ronan swallowed hard, opening his eyes at the familiar room. "Open your mouth," Shoku ordered and Ronan obeyed, the chalky taste of the pill left on his tongue. The enforcers shoved Ronan to his feet, bones still on the mend, and chained him to the ceiling, his arms hanging above his head. "You earned this Ronan, just remember, every time you cross me, you earn another strike." Ronan hung his head, his clothes were removed, everything aside from his trunks gone. He felt the sting of the whip on his skin, another lashing, the scars on his back still raw from the last one. "Let's make this more fun, maybe now you'll learn your lesson."

He felt the pinch of a needle and his world swam. A hallucinogenic had been administered, ensuring that he would be having an awful night.

The battle was all but over, with Yui, Ally, and Damian being the last minute heroes when all looked to be lost. The Freedom Fighters were taking Mizuki with them, and the sickly girl was glad to take Yui's hand. "You're Aria's friend? My name is Mizu, I'm her sister!" She took a quick mental note of the ear feathers. This was the cocoon then? This was the one they had to protect if they wanted to defeat Ira Shoku? She had discussions about the Cocoon with Natsuo before, and Hime was sure to through Natsuo let Mizu know just how important the Cocoon was. The way Hime and her brother referred to her sometimes Mizuki questioned if the Cocoon was just an inanimate object or something. Who would have thought she really was a tiny little thing? "Let's be friends!" She didn't recognize the fancy looking girl but she definitely did remember Damian. "Sorry for all the trouble my sister no doubt caused. She's such an idiot, seriously!" Aria scowled in the corner as field medics tended to her many burns from the net. "Shush." She grinned, the tears already spilling. "Welcome back, little sis."

The truck was moving and now the HIVE was packing up to go. Raven was in tatters, she failed in her plot to have the Black Reaper abducted and taken away. If he was stolen, then Raven would have gone forward - but no, he had to have gotten away safely. But still, time was running out. Something had to be done to change the playing field, or else the Freedom Fighters would always be stronger than the HIVE. "Fox. Do it." Raven whispered as she was taken away to have her stomach fixed. "I know it hurts... but it's time. Do as I order." Raven knew who the Prophecy's Oracle truly was, she knew that little girl with the stunning violet eyes was the one. And Yui was right there as well. Both pieces to the puzzle of divinity, just waiting to be taken away

The storage van was implanted with explosives. Small ones, not enough to kill anyone inside. Fox felt like a terrible person inside, betraying his girlfriend like this. "Remember what I said before." He said, holding a locket with pictures of the two of them together within. "No matter what happens, I still love you, Nemi." But duty came before love and so he pressed a button, blowing up the wheels of the storage truck. It skidded and crashed, the occupants no doubt stunned. Donning a black outfit to obscure his identity he moved in. There were two targets here - Mizuki and Yui. It was time to fulfill his master's orders.

At the explosion Aria's first instinct was to grab Yui and hug her, shielding her with wind and holding her close. It was entirely based on habit, and she wasn't in the habit of having to protect her sister too. So when the black figure lifted up Mizuki she didn't know what to do. She couldn't move, they needed to wait until Hime's truck realized what had happened. "Don't! Don't take her!" The unknown man couldn't bear to look at the woman he loved like this. Orders were to fight and take Yui but he couldn't, not like this. Raven would have to come up with another plan to take her. "You better leave now." Mizu said quickly. "Or else Nemi will kill you, whoever you are." Being taken away again, what a surprise. She was used to this, though.

Hime made sure Mizu knew that in the occasion where both she and the Cocoon were in trouble, her job was to give herself up to protect the Cocoon. As an agent of Prometheus, she would fulfill her duty. "You can have me, but please don't hurt them." The Fox hesitated but then he nodded. "Don't touch her!" But she couldn't move, even though she heard Hime's truck returning to check on them she couldn't move, her leg was trapped and she was almost delirous. "Don't take her from me!" The sickly girl grinned and wiggled her fingers. "See you later." She whispered as she was whisked away by the strange man, taken away to be a prisoner of the HIVE.

So this was Mizu? Yui was so glad! Aria was going to be so happy! "Yes, friends!" Yui agreed, clasping Mizuki's hand in her own. The door to the van opened and Ally came tumbling in with Aria, who was so happy she cried. It was a great reunion and Yui sat next to the window with Aria between her and Mizuki as they meandered back towards the base, Xavier sound asleep in the back. Yui was feeling sleepy, she had hardly gotten any sleep last night and would take a nice nap when she got back. Damian was sitting in the front with the driver and Ally was in the back, already fast asleep. Yui was listening to the sister's catch up, "Yui did... good?" She asked through a yawn when the tires blew out and her world flipped upside down.

The air did a moderate job protecting her, but even with it, the seat belt snapped, inflicting a cut on her neck. Blood trickled down her kin as the car landed upside down, Yui hanging from the seat. The door was thrown open, the cold air blowing in. "No!" Yui screamed, struggling against the seat belt that had locked. No! Yui had worked so hard, Mizuki couldn't just disappear now! The stranger disappeared, taking Mizuki along with him. Yui was feeling more tired by the second, no doubt suffering with a mild head injury. Her eyes closed and she drifted off as Hime knelt in the snow, pulling them out of the overturned car herself.

When Yui awoke once more they were back at their base in Odaiba, the injury around her neck wrapped. There was a cool cloth on her forehead and she was in her pajamas, as though this morning had all been a bad dream. At least Yui had gotten in a nap?
The fish sat up, realizing that she was on the couch. They were all laying around in the living room, the Doc attending to all of them. "Oh, look who's awake," he said in jest with a gentle smile. "Mizu?" Yui asked, but the Doc only shook his head. "She was taken, I'm afraid." He replied sadly, kneeling down to tend to Aria's burns. Whoever had put the bandages on had neglected to clean the burns first. Yui felt her heart clench painfully, Aria wasn't going to be happy when she awoke. After so long, they had been able to reunite for less than an hour.

Yui managed to squeeze her way onto the couch next to Aria and she lay there, hoping that it would help ease whatever pain Aria was in. Ping came to visit, sitting on the pillow beside Yui's head. His tail swung lazily and he watched them keenly, a great big yawn coming from the very small cat.

Raven smiled and Yui, being naive as she was, believed it to be genuine. "Mm!" Yui agreed, there was no time to waste, they had to go save Mizuki and Damian from whatever brute had taken them away. The two girls walked towards the car that was parked somewhere on the other side of the street, away from the view of the Odaiba safe house. "Yui will always help," the light bearer said, smiling and taking Raven's hand. Goodnight? What did that mean? Yui felt a jab in her thigh and her head grew light as the anesthetic entered her blood stream. She fell to her knees and if Raven hadn't been there, would have face planted with the snow. "Raven?" Yui whispered, her world full of light quickly becoming dark.

When Yui awoke she was in a strange place. Her shoes were removed, as was custom inside of buildings, but her coat remained. The light bearer winced when she reached back into her mind, trying to piece together how she had gotten here. She was sweeping the floor and then... and then she fell in the snow? And now she was in this strange place with. "Mizuki!" Yui scrambled to her feet, tripping on the carpet while she ran. "Yui found Mizu!" Her eyes sparkled at her accomplishment of finding Mizuki a second time. Aria was going to be so happy! And just on time for her birthday too! Now all Yui had to do was find Damian. Somehow, the troublesome situation completely evaded the little fish and if she knew that it was Raven who had drugged her and brought her here, well, Yui would be none too happy.

Still, she always had her abilities that she could rely on if something happened. Just like the first time Yui was kidnapped, all she had to do was use her blood bending and she could escape. Of course, Yui didn't want to end up on the streets again so this time she'd be sure to steal a map if need be. Yui turned, someone stepping in front of the door. Fox? What was he doing here? Had he been the one to take Mizuki? Why would he do that? Unless he had saved her and brought her here? Perhaps he would be bringing Aria here later to take both girls home? Yui looked the other way, seeing Raven and her confusion grew. "Raven... knew Mizuki here?" Yui scrunched up her nose as she thought of the words she needed. Had Raven rescued Mizuki?

So, the beast had a real name? Damian could have laughed if he weren't in such a terrible situation. He swallowed hard instead, his mouth awfully dry. "Ronan," Damian tried, the boy turning towards him with a brow quirked. "You don't have to do what that man says."

"No, I don't." The beast repeated, "I want to." Ronan's eyes glinted cruelly and Damian cried out in pain. His body burned, even the whisper of the drafty room making it feel as though needles were digging into his skin. "What did he give me? What was that drug?" Damian inquired, eyes wide, clearly frantic. Ronan took his time answering, slowly pulling off his jacket and squeezing on a pair of gloves. "It enhances your senses, something like adrenaline but a side effect is the amplification of pain." Ronan grinned, leaning down. He sucked in a breath, letting it out in a puff on Damian's face. The Freedom Fighter bit down on his lip to keep from whimpering, his own action causing the pain to spike. "Please, don't," Ronan reached down, grabbing Damian's ankle and digging his nails into the bandages.

"Where is she?" Ronan asked, "where is the girl?"

"Who?" Damian replied, feigning ignorance and stupidity. "What girl? I know many girls." Ronan flicked the bottom of Damian's foot, causing the boy to jolt and cry out. "Tell me where she is and I'll stop," Ronan moved, grabbing Damian's hand and pushing his finger back. "I can stay here all day," he whispered, licking his lips in a way that made Damian distinctly uncomfortable. "We'll start with an easier question then. What's your name?" That was something he could answer, because his name was distinctly American but his last name was Japanese. It was something he wasn't afraid to give away. "D-Damian,"[/color] sweat beaded his forehead, Ronan released his finger. Could he tell if Damian was lying or not?

"Damian," Shoku's puppet repeated, he slammed a hand against the table, making Damian jump. "Why did you take her?"

"She's just a child!"

Ronan's laugh was cruel, "you keep saying that. She's almost 15," Yui was that old? Damian realized something in that moment. He could benignly get information out of Ronan, he could state facts that were wrong and Ronan would correct him. Damian knew that this theory needed to be tested, however, before he acted on it. "The girl... her eyes are green right?" Ronan growled, grabbing his finger and pulling it back.

"Her eyes are blue!"

"She's tall?"

"I'm the one asking questions!"

When Ronan was done, Damian's fingers were all broken, he was bruised and bloodied and crying for it to stop, but he had given no information away. In fact, Damian had gained two important facts. Yui was almost 15 and Ronan had a weakness.

To say Yui was confused would be an understatement. The little girl blinked, looking between Mizuki and Raven. If Raven had saved Mizu and brought her here, why didn't she just take her to the base in Odaiba? Perhaps so they could find Damian and rescue him first? "Yui is Yui!" The girl corrected Mizuki; her name was not Yuki, although it was close to it. Yui looked back up at Raven when she asked her a question and shook her head in response. "Yui no know," the fish scratched her cheek, trying to recollect if she had ever met a Loretta. Raven placed a hand on Yui's stomach, over her light bearing mark and Yui squirmed, wondering what Raven was doing. She placed a hand over Yui's heart, asking if she wanted power.

Yui considered the offer, on the one hand, she wanted to be able to protect everyone, but on the other, she was afraid. What if she had more power? What if it changed her and made her into someone like the Bad Reaper? Yui shook her head once more, she didn't want more power, she just wanted to be stronger, to have the chance to prove herself and protect those she cherished from the bad things. "Yui no want," she whispered, taking a step back. Yui didn't care about the world quite yet, she was still learning about everything and what she had seen so far was ugly. When she was on the streets in Shibuya, no one had offered to help her. Then again, what about how much fun she had, had at Disneyland? It had been a beautiful day despite the fact that the Bad Reaper had come to ruin it all.

Yui was going to change her mind, she was going to accept Raven's offer when Mizuki began to speak. Yui already had the power, she said, they all did. Mizuki leaned in, her whisper tickling Yui's ear. Yui was feeling rather queasy, her uncertainty written across her face. Why couldn't she trust Raven? Wasn't Raven one of the good guys? Yui reached out to try and feel the blood of those in the building and realized that their rhythms were all the same. It was as though they were all calmly going about their day, but the child had become highly suspicious. She stepped away from both girls, confused and frightened. A blood knife formed in her hands and Yui backed away, towards the door. She didn't like this situation, she wanted to go. Yui would run and tell Aria where Mizuki was so that all of the Freedom Fighters could come and save her. Yui couldn't do it on her own, as much as she wanted to, she wasn't strong enough yet.

Raven was a light bearer? No, there had to be someone else behind all of this. Raven was just a normal girl!

When Ronan returned it was with a tray of food and a bundle of clothing. "Get dressed," Shoku's lackey said, undoing the straps so that Damian could tug the white shirt and drawstring pants on. It was odd, for a man who loved darkness to have surrounded himself in the purity of white. Damian fumbled, his fingers wrapped and buddy taped due to the fact that they were now all broken. "Give me that!" Ronan snapped, "you're taking too long." He placed the shirt over Damian's head and despite his brutishness, was oddly gentle. Damian's meal was, he noticed, completely nutritionally balanced. It seemed that Shoku wanted to keep his light bearers in top shape. "What does he want with me?" Damian asked between a mouthful of food. He hadn't realized how starving he was until the smell of food had hit his nose. It was good, distinctly bland, as though the maker had put no heart into it, but better than what he had been expecting. Ronan did not answer his prompt, perhaps he did not know what Shoku wanted with him? Or maybe he just liked knowing that he had more information?

Considering the condition they had found Yui in, who had been on predigested formula for who knows how long, Damian had been afraid that all of his meals would be coming in via protein shake. "Don't move," Ronan warned when Damian was done. Damian froze instinctively, not wanting to be hurt again. Ronan undid the straps around his ankles and lifted Damian as though he weighed nothing, dumping him unceremoniously in a wheelchair and strapping his wrists and ankles down. "You don't have to do what that man says," Damian spoke quietly as Ronan wheeled him out of the room. Where were they going? Damian looked back at Ronan and blushed, noticing the delicate curvature of his chin. "If you escape, you can come with me, you'll be free." Ronan grinned, Damian had only just noticed the bandages peaking out from underneath Ronan's shirt.

"I don't have to do anything, I want to." The pills made him obedient. The pills made Ronan's mind a blur. They repressed his feelings, they scattered his memories, preventing Ronan from lashing out against his master. Despite his words, Damian could tell that Ronan was thoroughly beaten, perhaps suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. Ronan laughed, the sound cruel and grating. "I have everything I could ever need or want. Food, clothes, power." He cracked a knuckle, causing Damian to jump. They had reached their mysterious destination and Ronan placed his finger on the reader, the door opening. He wheeled Damian in backwards, going down a slight incline and into a narrow hallway with doors lining either side. Damian swallowed hard, wondering what was in store.

When Ronan opened up the last door on the right, it was revealed to be a room fashioned into a medical office, a tray of tools laid out on the table. "Have fun," Ronan snickered, turning around. He ran a hand through his short hair and Damian could have sworn he caught a glimpse of a bar code on his neck, the same place where Yui had her's. Is that was this place was? Was Damian going to be receiving the same treatment?

It was dark in the box, sound hardly able to penetrate the cardboard walls. Yui hugged her knees against her chest, collecting her thoughts. She fiddled with the bracelet on her wrist, feeling as though someone had put her on mute. Silencing, that's what Shoku called it, it was stifling and uncomfortable, Yui didn't like it. She tugged, scratching at the space around her wrist. What if Yui dislocated her thumb? Then she could squeeze the bracelet off! The only issue with that was, Yui had no idea how. She pushed on the sides of the cardboard that trapped her, searching for a weak spot or a way out. She punched the box, only to nearly tip it off the cart. What was going on outside? Yui could hear Mizuki's voice, then Raven's, but their words were muffled.

They would get Yui out of here, they would surely save her.

What was this kid doing? The Prophet had strode out with an off putting amount of confidence. She grabbed Ronan's wrist, studying his light bearing mark, something distinctly terrible happening. "Let go!" Ronan snapped, watching as a snake similar to his own appeared on the Prophet's wrist. What kind of sorcery was this! He lunged, but she stepped back, aiming blood tales at herself. Ronan grinned, it was clear that she was new to the darkness, she was experiencing the first symptoms and had next to no control. Ronan could beat her, he had far more years of lingering in the dark and even if he didn't have his light bearing mark, he was physically stronger than most humans that roamed this building.

"You don't want to die," Ronan leaned down, grinning. "Because if you do, there's no one to stop me from hurting her." Shoku would be mad, sure, but Ronan had plenty of pent up rage that he wouldn't mind spending. He knew she wouldn't die either, he could inflict as much torture as he wanted on the Subject and she would still be forced to suffer through life, perhaps blinded from the injuries, or maybe Ronan would carve out the subject's vocals when he was done so that she could no longer scream. "I can hear it now, the songs she'll sing, begging me to stop." Ronan licked his lips and it was evident just how far off the deep end he was. "You don't want that now, do you?"

And then little Haruka strode forward, totting a weapon that was far too big for her pathetic body. She threatened Ronan, waving her big gun around while one of his blood tails crept along the floor, underneath the noses of both girls. Little Haruka was getting so tall, not that Ronan cared. She poured her poor heart out, expecting him to care, expecting Ronan to listen. "Blah, blah, blah, I'm so sad!" Ronan mocked, waving his hand. A wolfish grin inched onto his lips, Ronan didn't care about her feelings. Ronan didn't care about anyone's feelings.

Rule number 1: never become emotionally invested in the job.

"You misunderstand "Raven." I don't do this because I have to," a blood tail flicked out, slicing off part of the rail gun. "I do it because I want to." Another tail grabbed Mizuki, hitting her hard against the wall. Not enough to kill her, just to knock her out. He held her upside down in case she wasn't out yet and threw her against a door. Ronan grabbed the designated box on the cart, feeling the subject slide inside. He kicked it forward, aiming for Raven. There was a general set of rules that belonged to starting fights, don't mess with an enemy that was bigger than you and don't go picking a fight with crazy. Raven and Mizuki had broken both.

"Hahah, aha!" The maggots were eating away at her already fragile sanity, she couldn't think if only she could think playing the Puppet Ronan's strings would be oh so fantastically easy. He was the lowest of the light bearers for being controlled by a baseborn human, one that didn't even have a power of his own. "I love you." The Oracle said, panting, to Ronan, a failed attempt at what she could usually do to make the Fox too stunned to stop her silly antics. "I love you, Reaper, please cut into me so that your blood cells will intermix with my skin oils and we can be together!" She laughed and screamed at the same time, bending almost double. No, with the maggots in her head she couldn't think correctly at all, nothing was working. "I'll rip you open and crawl aside so we can love each other forever, ehe!"

But then Ronan attacked as Raven appeared and then there was a brief moment of sanity in those violet eyes. "I really care for Yui, you know. But if she gets hurt, who knows what my weak heart will do?" Yui was the only real person, everyone else was a programmed puppet, even Ronan himself. How disgraceful for the Oracle to lose to him. She would continue arguing but the maggots were overpowering, the darkness flooding her mind and all she could do was scream unintelligibly until the Black Reaper gave her sweet, sweet release. It was a mercy too with how quickly her heart was racing, now she was unconscious and wouldn't have to feel as her heart's beating became so erratic that the slightest irritation could spark an attack. And if she was dead, the Prophecy would be gone and no one would be able to tame the butterfly within the cocoon.

Raven did her best but she knew she couldn't win through brute force, and neither could she win with sweet words. When Ronan kicked the box, Raven ducked under and lunged, tazing Ronan with the battery charge of her broken railgun. This gave her enough time to steal the cage holding Yui. She rushed back inside, holding the box, slamming the door so hard that snow fell and blocked the entrance. Abandoning Mizu for now, Raven rushed inside, activating her holo. "All HIVE soldiers, the Matriarch included, Code Red! Prepare to intervene!" So the Matriarch would strike and even if she couldn't, at least both she and the Freedom Fighters would know that Yui was no longer safe. "Let's go, I'll take you back to safety, sis." Raven whispered, there wasn't enough time to open the cage. But she could use an EMP signal to break the inhibitor's functions so Yui had access to her abilities again.

The Fox came to the rescue, flames ready. He remained at the rear, blocking all of the paths as Raven and Yui fled the Ikebukuro Base. If she could make it into the Chiyoda Ward, the full might of the HIVE would protect her. Not even Shoku could start a fight in broad daylight. Sadly her plan wasn't perfect and there was no accounting for her weak hip, the bad permanent limpt hat only formed because of her rescue attempt of both Ronan and Loretta, once upon a time. Even with the Fox creating a maze of flames to block their rears, she was hardly making any progress at all because of her bad hip.

She only had one option.

"Xavier, Freedom Fighters! We're at the border between Chiyoda and Toshima!" She screamed into the holo as soon as she got a hold of Xavier. "I have Yui and Mizu was caught and the Reaper-" Then the flames went out. Fox was defeated. She hissed and then continued her painful spring as her hip felt more and more locked up with each and every step.

Yui closed her eyes, focusing, waiting. The box was dropped and she cried out as she tumbled, Raven grabbing the cardboard and hauling it up. There was no time to release her, but somehow, the bracelet broke and Yui dug her blood into the cardboard, opening up a hole. "Raven!" Yui gasped, in time to see her fall. She attempted to help support her supposed sister, hoping that they could reach the awaiting car. The flames around them roared, licking the sides of the building and then, all at once, extinguished. The Reaper emerged from the smoke, one tail dragging Mizuki behind him. He dropped her body, an Enforcer coming forward to collect it. Yui grit her teeth, knowing what she had to do. "Yui will fight," she swallowed. "Raven will run." If Yui could hold him off long enough for Raven to hail the other Freedom Fighters, then Xavier could leap and grab her before Ronan could do anything.

Yui turned towards her opponent, "Raven, go!" Yui yelled, waving her off. Once Raven was a safe distance away, Yui allowed her blood to drip down her hand, forming into a sword. "Oh, we're getting serious are we?" Ronan grinned, taking out as many tails as his body would allow. He grinned, causing Yui to feel distinctly unsettled. She shivered against the cold, her feet bare, the wind whipping at her hair. "Bad Reaper!" Yui yelled, "Yui will fight!" Ronan cracked his knuckles, laughing. The two ran at each other, blood flying. He slashed at her, holding nothing back. Yui leaped, countering as quickly as she could. The beast sliced the skin on her lung and Yui cried out as it stung. In the same moment she countered with her own attack and Ronan cursed, his hand bleeding.

"You little brat!" Yui panted, running at him once more. She screamed, launching herself into the air directly at him. Bam! It drove into her gut, sending Yui rolling across the snow and into a tree. "Yui will protect family!"

"Those people aren't your family!" Ronan laughed. "I am," he cracked another knuckle and speared her through the arm, grinning. Fine, Yui only needed one hand to fight. Her sword shifted, turning into knives. She struck him in the ribs and the foot, but still, the Reaper went on. "You can't win!" He yelled, Yui's only thought being her hope that Raven had found her way to safety. Yui couldn't last much longer, she was losing, her stamina quick to fade. "Bad Reaper is... enemy," in an insane maneuver, Yui grabbed the tail that had speared her arm and pushed against it. "Yui will not lose!"

In that moment his tail lashed across her stomach and Yui fell, sliding against the tree. His fist drove into her ribs, his shadow standing over her. "You lose," he whispered, the glee eminent in his inflection. "You lose, you lose, I win!" Ronan grabbed her arm, twisting it backwards with a sickening crunch! Yui screamed in agony, her blood warm and sticky as it ran down her stomach. The pain made spots dance in her vision, Ronan lashed out once more, spearing Yui through her light bearing mark. She coughed, blood dancing from her lips. "You can't die yet, I haven't given you permission."

"Ronan!" The boy stiffened, turning ever so slightly. "You have your orders, don't kill the subject." His tails flicked all at once, ridding of the impurity of the subject's blood. "Tch, whatever." Ronan lifted her, throwing her over his shoulder. "Don't you dare get blood on me." He hissed, carrying Yui towards what was certainly her doom. "Mmm," was all Yui could manage, afraid her insides were going to become her outsides. There was a car waiting for them, Yui was placed in the trunk, Mizuki there as well. Yui clung to her, the only familiar thing in this strange dark place. The little girl coughed, there was blood leaking out of her mouth in droves. It hissed against whatever it touched, but nothing in the car melted. It seemed they had anticipated this and had Yui-proofed the vehicle. Too weak to fight, Yui simply lay there, her eyes eventually drifting shut.

She awoke unable to feel her limbs. There was a distinct discomfort, a heaviness in her torso that made Yui feel as though she were sinking into the bed. "Welcome home," a voice said and Yui turned her head, spotting the man who would surely be her demise.

Every time Yui spoke improperly she was shocked. "No like!" She screamed, electricity vibrating down her spine, making Yui heave on the ground. "Speak properly," she was scolded, Shoku standing over her. Yui squirmed, the back of the dress open so that he could inject needles into her spine. They took bone marrow and spinal fluid, they ran all sorts of tests on the girl that left her shaking or breathless. After a few days, Yui had finally been broken of the habit of referring to herself in the third person. "Can Yui-c-can I-" she quickly corrected, fear making her stomach drop. "Take a break now?" She had just come out of the maze for the fifth time. Her knees were bloodied, the bottoms of her feet burnt in order to make her run faster.

The man at the end marked something down on his clipboard. "No," he replied sternly, grabbing Yui by the elbow and dragging her to the next test. "Please, Yu-I-I'm tired," she whispered hoarsely. "No," the man repeated without eye contact, shoving Yui through an open doorway. The child flinched when she saw the man that was waiting for her. She whimpered, taking a step back. "Come sit," Shoku said, his smile cold. Yui shook her head, withdrawing but the door had sealed shut. Shoku crossed the room in a few short strides, grabbing Yui's wrist and dragging her to the chair. Her arms were strapped down, tied to the seat. Shoku took out a metal appliance, feeling Yui's vein before he slipped the needle underneath her skin. Yui whimpered, instinctively lashing out and kicking Shoku in the shin. He slammed his fist next to her ear threateningly. "Bad girl." He hissed, removing the needle once the blood was taken.

Shoku dialed someone on his holo and not ten minutes later, Ronan had appeared, holding what looked to be rope bundled up in his hand. "Ronan, the Subject is misbehaving, I think you need to teach her a lesson." Ronan grabbed Yui by the wrist, yanking her out of the seat and dragging her down the hall. The gown was ripped off, Yui was chained to the ground, forced to kneel over in nothing but her underwear. "How many?" Ronan asked, unraveling the rope to reveal the fact that it was a whip. "Until it dissolves," Shoku responded, his holo phone ringing. He silenced it, watching keenly for what Yui might do. She closed her eyes, bracing herself, screaming when the whip lashed against her skin.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Until the whip had dissolved from her blood and she could no longer feel anything but the sting, hear nothing but the whistle and crack. Yui flinched when Ronan threw the whip away, expecting to be hit again. "Wasted a perfectly good whip," he turned around, her blood leaving little holes in his clothing. "Very good," Ronan grinned, leaving the room so that Shoku could take care of the aftermath. "Do you see what happens when you're bad? You get punished. Come X, let's go get you cleaned up." X, short for X42759. No name, just a string of numbers. Yui clung to the identity she had been given outside of these walls, even if she did not deserve it. They went past the rooms of other light bearers, some of them playing card games with themselves or reading, others watching as Yui stumbled after Shoku, a janitor trailing behind them to clean up the blood.

The man in charge caressed Yui's cheek, making her look up at him. "If only you'd learn; you can't oppose me." Shoku cleaned Yui's back and bandaged it up before placing the cuff on, light forced into her body to heal the wounds. Yui panted, her legs shaking. "I won't... stop... fighting," she jumped to her feet, attempting to hit him, but Shoku slapped her, sending Yui pinning. Her collar buzzed in warning before administering the electricity. Shoku knelt down, cupping her chin in his fingertips. "You have no name, no family, you belong to no one but me. Submit." Yui shook her head, "No," she squeaked. "I won't ever, I'll keep fighting, always!" Shoku narrowed his eyes.

"Then you leave me no choice," the thin silver accessory warned her before it served its primary function and Yui collapsed. Shoku grabbed her by the back of the collar, dragging Yui out of the room and to one filled with pods. "Stay here and think," he shoved her inside, a lock clicking to seal her inside. Gas began to fill the chamber and Yui coughed, trying to hold her breath. She attempted to stand, but the space was entirely dark except for a small, ambient light meant to soothe. Yui knelt in the water, the isolation tank making her feel as though she were inside of a cage.

When the hallucinations were over, still no one came. The tank remained closed. Yui grew hungry, she wasn't allowed to sleep in the confined space and her ena remained replenished to due to the fact that it was half filled with water. The Subject lay down, she banged on the walls, she rolled around, attempting to find a way out. The hallucinogenic was administered twice more and Yui held herself, rocking after the third time. Aria being crushed by her own winds, Mizuki's eyes being cut out, Damian getting set on fire, everyone dying, over and over and it was all her fault. Always her fault; because she wasn't human, because she was a monster.

At long last, the lock was undone. Yui squinted as fluorescent light filled the space and she whimpered, having grown used to the isolation. The lights dimmed ever so slightly, a person coming into focus. Yui shuffled through the water, grabbing onto his pant leg, clinging to it as she sobbed, wanting the images behind her eyes to stop. "Good girl X, very good girl." Ira Shoku whispered, stroking her hair.

It was soon discovered that Damian had lied about the Prophecy's location because no matter where Ira Shoku had his agents look, they couldn't find it. They couldn't find anything. "No, you've been too complacent." Shoku snapped at Ronan one night. "Break him by any means necessary. Use the Prophet if you must, but keep her alive." He had been running experiments on the peculiar Puppet mark. It was similar to the Subject's mark in a way because it was very good at self-stabilizing. The Lotus Blossom refused to go dark no matter what was done to it, while the Puppet always eventually drained back into an empty, neutral color, one with hardly any light or darkness at all. The Prophecy was promised to hold all the answers, so he was going to need it. Soon too, because Sanctum was sneaking around, that K person seemed to have some sort of plan.

Yes, Shoku was aware that K had reached out to Hime and Mayumi and for the first time in their history, both Santum and Prometheus had formed an alliance. But it made perfect sense that they would. Shoku's faction was the strongest, especially now that he had access to both the Prophecy and to the Cocoon at the same time. Just as he should - they were originally his to begin with, after all. "Maybe her silent screams aren't enough to convince you, Damian." Mizuki was strung up, a choker around her neck that was attached to the ceiling. Below her was a giant piano and as Ronan played with the levers, he could move Mizu up and down via the choker in order to make her play songs by having her feet press against the keys. Right now he was learning the piano and playing a simplified version of Fur Elise for everyone in the Roppongi Building to enjoy.

Damian still didn't break, though his lies had gotten more and more frantic. Mizu was like a little sister to him because Aria was like a sister too, they had almost grown up together. Whenever he, Xavier, and Aria were off on an adventure, so many times the little scamper of Mizu's small feet were behind them, wanting to join in on the fun. This was before she was eventually made an inpatient at the hospital, of course. But her eyes, how calm and aware they were as she was repeatedly suffocated to play the piano was chilling. Unlike with Damian and Yui, who screamed and flailed and cried during torture, Mizuki was utterly unreactive. It was like shooting a bullet, but the bullet has no gunpowder and doesn't go off.

Something needed to be done. So while Shoku negotiated with Mizuki - she would read off passages of the Prophecy in her head in exchange for the right to speak again - something else was happening. Kenshiro Matsuri entered, using a device borrowed from a certain Raven that would automatically erase the security camera logs as he passed. He quickly exchanged Damian's inhibitor for a fake one, one that would still run the signal to Shoku's database of inhibiting light energy. It would be undetectable to all except for Mayumi, the one true expert on light and dark. She created the program after all, with help from K and the Matriarch. "Collaborate with Yui and Mizuki with it and you'll make it." Was the note he gave to Damian before making Damian swallow it. It was up to him to begin reaching out.

Once it was Mizu's turn for Isolation and Ronan was tending to his tender behind, Damian immersed himself in communicating secretly with Mizuki and Yui. "My tongue will be back in two or so days." Mizuki's voice echoed in his head. Yui was on the network as well, so she could hear everything in the back and forth. "You can sense the mask, though, can't you, Damian?" Yes, he could, but for now there was nothing he could do about it. As much as he hated to admit it, the cold efficiency of the Oracle's mind would be useful. "I can play the guards like strings. Once I can speak again I'll be able to guess at their weaknesses until they eventually have no choice but to obey me." It was like what she had done with the Fox. She would do it with the guards here, too. Damian, too, would be able to control the guards with his powers.

What she needed was power. And she would need to borrow Ronan's for a second time to fight their way out. Yui wouldn't have enough plasma for an extended fight, and Damian was largely a support fighter rather than a frontliner. "Last time it almost killed you." Damian warned. "Can't we just collaborate with Raven?" A sharp refusal echoed in his head. "No! We'll just end up her prisoners and she won't let us get back to the Freedom Fighters."
A mental sigh, as if the Oracle was tired of dealing with them. As if they were pests rather than teammates. Maybe a part of her had given up on Yui after Yui failed to realize the fakeness of this world. "We have to get out on our own power and then contact Xavier." Xavier. That was a name that brought up so many feelings Damian couldn't even process them.

He wasn't even sure if he wanted to see Xavier or not. After what Ronan did to him - was doing to him - it was nearly impossible to get a handle on his emotions at all.

Damian's voice entered Yui's mind. She sat up, looking around her room for the boy as the sound of Mizuki's lilt tickled her senses. They were planning to escape? But if Yui went with them... she shivered, visions of their death making her head swim. Yui didn't want them to die, but she knew that staying here wasn't an option for Damian and Mizuki, so Yui would help them escape. She stopped walking, an Enforcer bumping into her. "Keep moving!" He barked, causing the girl to jump and skitter forth, catching up to Shoku and Ronan, who was on his way to find Damian. Her wrists were bound in front of her, her hands covered in a metal coated to resist her abilities. Shoku was smart not to trust the girl, even though Yui had clung to him when he released her from isolation, soaking his pant leg.

"In here," Yui froze in the doorway. The Enforcer pushed her forth, ensuring that Yui had no way to escape when he sealed the doorway. "I'll be recording the results brought forth by this test," Kenshiro Matsuri said, adjusting his glasses. Shoku nodded and turned, lifting Yui onto the table. "Lay down," he ordered and Yui obeyed, leather straps holding her down. Her gown had been removed and she wiggled, the table cold. Yui looked between Kenshiro and Shoku, wondering what horrors awaited her today. "This is for your own good," Shoku said as he placed a helmet over her shaven head, a visor coming down to blind her. Yui could sense Ronan lingering in the space, no doubt curious. Ronan had been experimented on in the beginning, his ability having been small. Once Shoku realized the potentials of blood bending he had broken the boy three times over, putting him through Enforcer training, the Police Academy, and even hiring private tutors to hone Ronan's skill until no one could stand against him.

Well, no one but his baby sister. "Ronan!" The boy jumped to attention, "Don't you have other engagements?" He nodded his head, hustling out the door. Yui could no longer sense him when the door closed and her collar buzzed in warning. Shoku turned around and Yui whimpered, feeling the needles enter her stomach. They surrounded the lotus blossom, waves of inky blackness marbling her otherwise pure light bearing mark. "Interesting," Shoku murmured, drawing a circle around it. Yui squirmed, the needles distinctly uncomfortable. "Stop moving," Shoku ordered, placing a strap over her shoulders and above her knees to restrain Yui as much as possible. "It hurts," Yui whispered. Shoku began to flip the switches and darkness began to course through her body.

Yui screamed, thrashing; the pain making her head spin and her body clench. Yui's eyes rolled up in her head and she shook, her muscles contracting. "Dammit!" Shoku's fist hit the table, "Push through it," he ordered, but Yui could not hear him. "It's a tonic-clonic, we need to stop it." Kenshiro spoke softly and Shoku collected his thoughts, turning the machine off. Yellow liquid dripped off of the table. Shoku injected Yui with Lorazepam to stop the seizure, then tried again. It resulted in the same thing. He continued, over and over, but the seizure turned into a heart attack and Shoku had to take counter measures to prevent lasting damage. Her chest hurt, it was hard to breathe. "We need to amputate," Yui couldn't feel her hands. When Shoku took the helmet off, Yui quickly realized that she couldn't see.

"Dark," Yui whimpered. "It's dark," she swallowed, unable to hear Shoku murmuring to Kenshiro. "How many fingers am I holding up?"

"I can't see," the terror was eminent in her voice. "Kenshiro, make note, another failure." The saw came down on one hand, Yui screaming the entire way through.

|| Devil on my Shoulder || Faith Marie ||

With his most recent failure, Ira Shoku knew he needed something else to happen. Without the Prophecy in his hands he had no choice but trial and error. And suddenly, an inspiration struck him. The Prophet's odd marking might very well be the key to all of this, maybe that was why she was the Prophet to begin with. Her ability to drain away light and dark when mixed with the Subject's boundless imperturbable light... who knew what would happen? The scientist in him was very curious at the possibilities that would occur. Kenshiro wouldn't be here for this, naturally, it was too much for him. Meanwhile Ronan and his army of Enforcers were too strong, the Roppongi Building was nigh unbreakable. There was no risk of any danger from the insurgent groups threatening his Kingdom. He hardly needed to pay them any mind.

Ira Shoku didn't know what his end goal was. But he remembered all the times Mayumi taunted him. There was some kind of goal he wanted to strive for but no matter what he did Mayumi would insist it was impossible, that he would never surpass her. Even now he had a feeling Mayumi Hikari was better with light and darkness than he was himself. The next day he thought up a new experiment, involving both girls of the Prophecy. He was of course oblivious to the fact that they were communicating even now. It was the same experiment as last time, but now he was going to have the Prophet remove excess light and darkness to keep the Subject stable instead of going into cardiac arrest like last time. Her tongue hadn't yet grown in, but those violet eyes were already cold and grim, resigned to her role in all of this.

"Begin." He told the scientists and they obeyed because they didn't have any other choice in the matter. The darkness pumped through the tubes into the Subject's body like a river of inky blackness. "It'll be fine." Mizuki told Yui through Damian's mental network. "I won't let him turn you dark." Mizu was the perfect choice for absorbing darkness because her body always cleansed it away eventually. Unlike other Light Bearing marks that tried to retain light and dark as they came in, Mizu's actively flushed them out with time. "Tomorrow we can do it." Damian already had a map of the place and with Mizu's help they managed to put together a second map, one of the guard rotations. The Oracle was able to determine which guards were easiest for her to crack and which ones were easiest for Damian to break.

"Tomorrow, when Ronan's about to enter the room to torture Mizuki is when we'll do it, okay?" She would be their signal. All Yui would have to do is wait for either Mizuki or Damian to reach her first, and then whoever did would work together with Yui to find the other and then the three of them, with Ronan as their captive, would escape. The plan hinged on the idea that Mizuki couldn't take out Ronan in one hit before he could notice. That was their only chance for this to work. And it was clear that of the three of them, the one Ronan looked down on the most was the Oracle, because she didn't have a proper ability of her own.

Maggots. Maggots. Maggots and maggots and fear and paranoia flooding the girl who had no idea what emotions were and by the end of it she was shaking and panting, having had to drain so much darkness out of Yui that her head was about to burst. "Still as light as ever, Emperor." The scientist said nervously, the entire tub of darkness had gone in and out and Yui's mark hadn't changed at all. But Mizu didn't have the energy to taunt him, she was busy doing everything she could to fight off the darkness and the maggots infecting her mind and soul. "Sir, we need to stop now, the Oracle can't handle another round." She was pale, taking weak rapid breaths that did nothing to help fill her lungs, her already fragile heart was working overtime.

Unlike Ronan whose mark was able to build up a heavy resistance to darkness, Mizuki was unable to form such a resistance. So no matter how many rounds she had to absorb, it would always be just as intense as the last. But this was her mission, so even if it was intense, she needed to learn it and embrace it and eventually beat Ronan with it when his guard was down. "All three of us will get out, I swear my life on it." Damian told them as soothingly as he could, like a mother. "So we can be a family together. And Ohana means family, and family means no one is left behind, or forgotten." He could sense how Mizu was afraid she would no longer be needed once Yui had Aria, and he could sense how Yui felt she was a monster that didn't deserve to be free. "I love you both, and we'll all see the daylight again together. Either we all make it, or none of us do." Both girls would need extensive therapy. Yui, to help her realize she was just as deserving of happiness as the rest, and Mizu, for realizing she had worth beyond her role as the Oracle, that she had value just for being herself. They would love her even if she didn't cling to the Oracle title like a desperate lover about to be abandoned.
