Several alumnus scrolls chimed as they received their fated messages.
Team BITA Mission One: A Massive insect-type Grimm hives have been causing massive disruptions at the Mountain Glenn reconstruction site.
Team FUSH Mission One: A caravan needs an escort through the wilds of Forever Fall Forest, many different kinds of Grimm are known to live in the forest including Harpies, Goliath, and Deathstalkers. The caravan must be taken to a cave near the ocean that leads to a secret village outside the kingdom.
The mission seemed pretty straight forward enough, kill a whole lot of bug Grimms. The only thing was that the location worried him, Mountain Glenn. The place is a decaying corpse of a city, one that's all but fell to ruin. Getting around in such a place would be easy for him, but his teammates, in particular the walking tank that is Tyrus, might have some trouble.
"Alright. Looks like Mountain Glenn has a bug problem. It's infested by insect Grimm." Bron stated the general details of the mission to his team. "The Prof wants us to go in and play exterminator." Bron added. "If you guys want to go we can. But I gotta warn you, Mountain Glenn can be pretty dangerous." Bron said as he looked over at Tyrus. "Especially for someone with your...........mass. But I think we can handle it."
Still the guy stink did get to her sometimes.
But her team was like a family. Brothers she never had. She enjoyed spending time with them, though the fact two of her brothers enjoyed meat so much at dinner time repulsed her. Of course she got used to it over time. It was actually quite funny when she first met her team. Bron was kind enough though a bit of a showoff. Arian was something. Lazy, which Indie disliked, but still a person she'd love to be in a group with. Tyrus was perhaps the most insane meeting she ever had. A year younger then her yet still he towered high over her thin frame. And the first thing Indie noticed was he reeked of meat. Their relationship started sort of strained though Indie would never say she disliked him, more disappointed then anything. The man couldn't remember her name for months and whenever he tried to call out to her and messed up her named she only call him The Carnivor. Eventually he grew to remember and Indie liked to think she helped Tyrus grow calmer.
Or at least less likely to run headfirst unto battle.
Now the group of them were close as ever, hence Indie referring to them as brothers. The room they shared was a bit cramped and changing deemed to always be a bit awkward. Yet Indie grew acustom to it and didn't even bother to blush. To her their dorm was a save heaven that they could relax in.
Which was exactly what Indie was doing now. Normally when walking around Beacon or going on Missions she'd wear an blue jacket to conseal her wings. It wasn't that she was ashamed of them, it was just with a nine foot wing span she ended up attracted a lot of attention. Plus she was always bumping into things and people. But here in the dorm that didn't matter. At the moment Indie was sitting on the floor hunched over a book. Her right wing was tucked in while her left was halfway stretched out. Meanwhile her legs did the opposite. Her left leg stuck out and her right was tucked underneath her body being used as a cushion.
The book she was so focused on was rather large with a red cover. Ironically it was titled Killings in London. Indie loved horror stories. She'd stay up late reading them all the time though regret it in the morning when her eyelids drooped in class.
Being halfway through the book Indie almost didn't notice the speak go on over head. She finished a chapter and looked up as perusal just in time to hear Ozpin's voice fade.
'Oh? We got a mission guys?' She stood up and gazed at her team members. 'I say we take it! No use sitting around and being lazy. Growing boys need exercise after all!'
It was normal to see Indie so pumped for a mission. Despite declaring herself as someone looking for peace she just loved the rush that came with fighting Grimm. But it wasn't from the killing. She hated killing. It was more a sense of not letting anyone else be attacked by the Grimm.
"What's so dangerous about Fountain Sven? Or is this just one of those times that if I just jump out of the airship before it lands, the ground will give out?" Despite the innocent, almost childlike nature in which the question was offered the implications were serious. Tyrus hated waiting for the airship to land and simply preferred to jump out, his aura and semblance making such a maneuver hardly any more dangerous than stepping off a stool.
"More importantly, what're we hunting; is it any fun; and if it's robots I'm not going...hate those things." Tyrus' hatred of robots was no secret. The things were basically his antithesis: not only were they no fun to fight, they didn't even offer any fun to track and hunt. Then the work required could end up making him waste energy from his semblance without giving anything to replenish it. In short, there was nothing he hated more- the young man even opened the remaining eye just to get the point across. It wasn't that he didn't remember the details, so much as Ozpin's voice was just one he tended to tune out and the fact he didn't recognize their destination didn't help. He was honestly more interested in filling his stomach at the moment too, the not-so-subtle rumbling from his center making this point loud and clear.
He didn't find his team, the team found him. Fushia was walking over with a grin on her face like it was the happiest moment of her life, which managed to annoy him to this day. He still wasn't sure to this day why shes was made the leader of the team. A show-boater like her tends to act first and think later, and she did plenty of that still. At least she was willing to acknowledge that, and deferred a ton of the more subtle stuff to him.
As she read the mission statement, he mentally drew up each of the types of Grimm listed in the mission briefing, plus a few other more uncommon ones just to be safe, and drew up their weaknesses. He thought about how each member of the team could maximize their effectiveness...not that it would help a lot. Umbra and Fushia would probably ignore his recommendations in the heat of battle to engage in another contest of flashy finishers, and he'd have to bail them out again.
At least he could count on Han Xue to listen to him. He was the only other person on the team that seemed to take things seriously.
One thing was bugging him though.
"A...secret village? How is it a secret village if there's practically a trade route established?" It was a rhetorical question but his teammates all opened their mouths to answer him."Never mind, forget it. I'm just gonna go grab my gear."
There was Grimm killing involved. That's all he needed to know.
Arian rolled over slowly and stretched himself out as far as he could, his tail lightly wagging.
"Ah, so good to get a nice long mid morning nap after a bit of squirrel hunting! Next time, Ty, don't step on my tail. It's the only one I have." he glared as he picked out a few leaves and began brushing his nearly platinum tail. "I'll pack the bags with Indie," he said as his eyes widened. Now is my chance to get some alone time with her, it's so hard with "Wild Man" Tyrus pulling a Tarzan moment, in nothing but his loincloth, again. he thought.
He stretched out his muscles on his highly toned, and highly scared body. He usually tries to make sure that the time his teammates spend seeing his scars are at a minimum. He still hasn't told them the truth about how he got them, he just told them a bogus story about him being in a car accident when he was young. While it hurts him to lie to his friends, it would hurt him more if they knew what he has done, what he is.
Bron threw on his shirt and began changing pants. Next he put on the rest of his attire, his boots, vest, gloves, and quiver. He grabbed a candy bar and held it in his mouth as he gathered up several more and shoved them down in his pockets. He laid out three of them for his team if they wanted it. "Alright." Bron said as he unwrapped his candy bar. "I'm going on down to the hanger. Here's some candy bars if you want it." He said as he took a big bite of his candy bar, and grabbed Trick Shot.
"When you princesses are done packing your make-up, meet me down there." Bron then broke his bow apart into numchuck form and placed it on the back of his quiver. He walked out of the room and went straight to the hanger.
After brushing Arian's arm with her wings in a playful manner she tucked them back up and slipped on the blue jacket. It was no secret she didn't enjoy wearing it but Indie would rather her wings not be a bother.
"Right!' She grabbed Ari's hand and began tugging him towards a trunk at the other side of the room. 'Always be prepared right oh mighty leader?' A grin was thrown to Bron as she dropped Arian's hand and began rummaging through the trunk.
After a few minutes she let out a happy hum and pulled out four packs. 'Here we are! One for me, one for Ty, one for Bron and one for Ari!' She confidentiality held them up and passed the golden one to Ari. 'After our last packs took a beating I took the time to get some that will last a lot longer.' Indie let out a giggle while beginning to stuff the needed items in her dark blue pack. 'Plus I got everyone's favorite color!'
"hehe sorry Ri (long I)."Bron's offer of food was enough to encourage Tyrus to pounce off his bed after the archer. While the movement itself could easily be called smooth, the landing of something of his weight wasn't something that could be called graceful. He did accomplish his goal of not stepping on or crashing into either of Indie's wing though, which in his book was success enough. In response to Indie's remark about packing a bag of meat, he only stuck out his tongue.
At the door, Tyrus undid the bunching of his shorts that had given him something of a loincloth look so they properly covered him down to his knees. In his book, he already carried everything he needed and anything else could be gathered or hunted. Thus the origin of Indie's remark being his attempt to pack food on the go. After exiting the room, the Faunus followed Bron the entire way to the hangar. Due to his excessive attempts of navigation and getting lost in his first year, Tyrus simply followed his teammates just about everywhere on campus.
"So Bron, what's so special about where we're going again?" While Arian's voice of support was nice, it gave Tyrus no clue of what his new hunting ground would be like.
"You said my weight, so am I going to be stuck jumping between certain points. Or am I going to have to sprawl and crawl on my stomach like I'm on thin ice." Finally getting into the idea of a hunt, Tyrus' demeanor was much more serious. At the very least he knew they were going beyond the wall, which was essentially dropping him into his natural element- he'd finally be able to think straight.
"Did he just call me....ugh, forget it!" Arian hated being called a pup, but didn't feel like arguing.
He watched as Tyrus followed Bron out of the room and turned to help Indie.
"So, we have ten minutes, I'm gonna grab my jerky stash and and the new scroll-connected headsets I finished." Arian seemed lazy but it was only because he was always thinking of new tech for his team to use on mission. He pulled two small boxes, a small suitcase, and a sack from under his bunk. "Um, Indie, I made these for you," he nervously said as he opened the suitcase, a pair of baby blue gauntlets and a pair of clear goggles. "The left gauntlet is able to carry your Scroll and the goggles are designed to allow you to see easier while flying, take photos and send them to the rest of us using your Scroll as a storage device.
You made me a new pack?" He said with a gentle smile. "I love it, thank you, it is amazing!
He spoke as if he'd been there before, which he has. Back during his mercenary with Johuck, they'd been hired to help protect some smugglers. Their base was in Mountain Glenn, and he spent some time there. "Errr......so I heard." Bron said trying to quickly cover up the fact he's been there before. "Anyways when we get there let's stick to the buddy system. Muscles, you need to stick close to the Pup. In case something were to happen, the Pup can make things easier for you get around" Bron said as he started to formulate a strategy.
"While Blue jay, I'm gonna need you and those pretty blues up in the sky. Glenn is crawling with Grimm, and I need to have a bird's eye view. Pun partially intended. And when we run into Grimm stay close to me." Bron ordered. It would be easier that way. In case things went south and stuff started falling apart, he was sure Arian could help the behemoth that is Tyrus better then Indie could. "So Tyrus, you want to see who can kill the most Grimm like we usually do, or do you want to admit defeat and save yourself the embarrassment?" The archer said, almost oozing smugness.
I guess this is gonna be one of those missions where I'm the leash that whelms Ty. UGH!
"Bron, you know I absolutely hate being called pup, right! The flight is only a few minutes, I already uploaded a map of Mountain Glenn both above and below ground, and we may run into more than just insect Grimm out there, I heard stories of Goliath herds and Beowolf packs around that area. " He said while looking through the data he had on Mountain Glenn and it Grimm population. "In recent years, people have also spoken of some weird happenings in the older tunnels, odd noise, disembodied voices, and eerie music. The reconstruction started about two years ago, in the underground, causing a unusual reaction, the spawning of Grimm shot through the roof."
After her giggling fit ended Indie's face grew much more serious. 'Leave it to me!' She slung the pack over her shoulder and while still wearing the goggles and clapped her hands.
Honestly Indie loved flying. It was a rush though she could only go an hour and a half tops without stopping. And if she did have to go that long Indie needed a bed right after. Still, flying was worth it.
Practicality bursting with excitement Indie grabbed her two blade and sent a amused glance at Arian. 'I don't know why you dislike being called Pup so much Ari. It's cute.'
"Oh that's all? I had deal with pitfalls and crumbling rocks back when I was a child, could probably do this with my eyes closed." He still slung the pack over his shoulders, there might be something that he'd have to carry anyways.
As for Bron's challenge, as usual Tyrus wouldn't take it lying down. "Bring it, we counting pure kills or does simply finishing something off count too?" While the lion was talking big, it wasn't like he'd ever decisively beaten Bron. At best, they were tied and at worst he might actually be behind some. However Tyrus always felt like the winner since these contests always resulted in his getting a net gain for his Semblance- so an impartial judgment was rather hard to make from his end. At Arian's mention of tunnels, he did pale a little at the idea of such a confined space.
"Bron, we all going in the tunnels for bugs. Or are you and Indie staying above in case the Goliaths and crew decide they can come in and crash the party? Or is that just gonna be potential formation change when we get there?" He also mentally made a note about Grimm seeming to appear at such a high rate...prolonged combat was his specialty. That and he secretly hoped to stay on the surface, not only did he think himself the most suited for their overground threats. He also was more reluctant to go into a tight tunnel than see and kill a Grimm he'd never seen before.
"I get that you don't like tight spaces big guy, so I'll go down there with Arian." Bron stated. Although he does feel that Tyrus would probably be better suited down there, but he can't ask someone to face their biggest fears. "You and Indie will say topside. Indie, I need you to stay up high and monitor Grimm movement. I don't like the idea of splitting the team up, so if more Grimm show up then you can handle you let us know, and we'll be out of the tunnels in a flash. I mean it! No playing hero!" Bron ordered.
"The same goes for us." Bron said as he turned to Arian. "If we get in over our heads we get the heck out of dodge. It's an abandon city, it's not worth our lives." Bron stated as he hopped on the airship. "This ear pieces do work underground right? Or will they be a stylish accessory down there?" He asked. "Oh and Indie one more thing. Make sure the Meathead doesn't embellish any of his kills. He's gonna lose, so he might as well lose fairly."
"They work underground, a max of 1 mile of solid rock and 3 miles of open air. This is a reconstruction, so if we find out why they are there we will be helping people." He replies to his leader's comment.
Her smile faulted for a split second though she doubted her team saw and she offered her hand to Tyrus. 'Guess we're partners Ty. And I've got my eye on you sir Lion. I've got the eyes of a hawk thanks to Ari!' A smile was thrown and she gave back at the others slightly impatiently.
'Come oooooon. You lazy bums need to get up and at'em! Team BITA can't have laziness bow, can we?' A grin still covering her face she held up her blades and pointed them towards the door. 'Now that we have our plan....Onward my mighty men!' She laughed threw open the door. Without another word she was running down the hall.
"Come on Team we need to head out!" She called out to her team mates she would give them a bit longer before contacting each one. Even now she was still getting use to her new team mates. It was hard for her to trust people on the drop of a hat but she forcesed that all behind her as she new that every remember on the team needed to have one another back if the mission was to go successful.
