Ciel was certain that this time, she was going to get it right. She had spent weeks, even months, researching and perfecting the technique. It was relatively simple, but Ciel had heard that this bit of thaumaturgy tended to backfire. It was best to be on the safe side.

As Ciel was activating the procedure, she felt a sudden rise in flux, as if someone had just conducted an experiment of their own. The vis around the young woman twisted, igniting the surrounding oxygen.

A resounding boom echoed through the Guild.

Ciel woke up sprawled on the floor of the abandoned classroom she had been using. The smoke was still clearing, so she must had only blacked out momentarily. One bleary look at her surroundings told her the “explosion” hadn’t altered anything. Even the dust was still in place.

The thaumaturgist sat up, rubbing the back of her head. Well that was a lucky break. But I’m going to have to find that guy who made the flux...- Ciel froze, her fingers still in her hair. Her hair... where did it go...?

The girl swallowed, looking down. Oh crap. Her body had shrunk, leaving her swathed in a dress-like t-shirt with the rest of her clothes in a pile on the floor. Horror swelled in her throat, leaving her speechless. Ciel numbly began to gather up her discarded apparel, hands shaking.

Okay, so maybe the explosion had altered something.

Adion saw an explosion from the labs, and ran to the room in less then 5 minutes. He had walked into the class room looking around for a thaumaturgist, but saw none in his sight. Adion then heard something and looked down to see a little girl with some clothes in her hands. "What did you do?" Adion asked in a suspicious tone. It was obvious that something backfired, but that was slightly after that flux pulse. She was not likely at fault, being that students working with less stable experiments work at night to avoid the flux that other thaumaturgist's experiment's interference. Still, she had turned herself into a child.

Ciel blinked, and looked up, up, up to see the man who had just entered the room. She supposed that with all the racket she'd been making it was surprising the whole guild hadn't come running.

"What did you do?" He asked suspiciously.

Shame reddened Ciel's cheeks. "I, uh, was conducting an experiment on the nature of vis... it should've been easy, but there was a flux pulse..."

She looked away. "I'm supposed to be twenty-two."

Adion let out a big huff. What a great time for a flux heavy experiment and an experiment on vis, both at the same time. Of course, the flux heavy experiment was likely to not have been the most publicly accepted, which would explain why it was done so late.

"OK, let's start with who are you? And what exactly was this experiment? I might be able to get you back to normal." Adion said. Most of the stuff that Adion worked with was easily to undo. However, some of the more unstable experiments, like the one that Ciel obviously preformed, it was a bit harder to reverse. But, Adion would not know if he could reverse it if he did not know the experiment.

"OK, let's start with who are you? And what exactly was this experiment? I might be able to get you back to normal."

Ciel wrung her small hands. "My name is Ciel Demarius. I'm a thaumaturgist, obviously, and I've been here for five years now. My experiment was supposed to be on the vis in oxygen, and how being drawn from a gas state alters it's qualities." She rolled her eyes. "All very academic, but it's known to be a pretty tricky deal."

The little girl sighed. "I-I don't understand how it could turn me into this, though! I guess, if anything, it probably has something to do with the nature of the flux pulse that disrupted it..."

Ciel frowned, eyebrows furrowing. "Hey, who are you, anyways?"

Adion listened to Ciel. Vis in oxygen, that would explain the massive backfire. That type of research is far from stable and very dependent on flux removal. Adion then heard Ciel ask who he was. "Well, I am Inventer Adion Volf." said Adion. He then walked over, looking at the equipment used to conduct the experiment. It all seemed like it was protected, but not for the amount of flux that the other experiment caused.

Ciel looked up, thoughtful. So he was an Inventor? "Do you think you can help me figure out where the flux wave came from?"

She stretched, her back popping. "You know, its weird, but I'm super flexible as a little kid. Since I probably won't stay like this for long, I might as well enjoy it while I can."

The little girl gathered up her things, tying the mound of clothing into a vague ball shape. She spared a glance towards the machinery. "Eh, let's leave it, what's the worst that can happen?"

Ciel walked towards Adion, reaching up to grasp his sleeve when she was close enough. "C'mon, let's go big guy."

Adion was now being pulled around by someone not even half his size. However she did ask about the flux wave, and Adion was curious about that. So he said "I'll ask the Alpha-Mage tomorrow. He should come by to pick up some work that I did yesterday."

The Alpha-Mage showed Devon where the storage room was. It was covered in various crystals and bottles, with the occasional machine sticking out from the shelfs. There was also plenty of commonly researched materials, and food for the Guild. It was so large that it took up the back of the Labs, making it look like it had twice the number of labs it actually did, but it was ALL storage. The Alpha-Mage then looked at Devon and said "Grab what you were sent to get. I will most likely have to explain the flux spike to some of the more acute students. However, I will wait until you are ready to go back to Jon."

Ciel and her companion walked through the labs, footsteps echoing through the empty hallways. Ciel, for the most part, walked in silence until the ominous feel of the unused Labs grew to be too much for her. She inched closer to Adion, glancing about nervously.

"It's kinda creepy down here... I've never been this deep into the Guild before...." The small girl readjusted her load, so that she could clutch at Adion's sleeve with both hands.

"But I'm sure the flux pulse came from somewhere nearby." As if on cue, in the distance there was a light. Almost unconsciously, Ciel slowed her pace. Weird... I'm not usually such a chicken, but I'm probably reacting to the fact my body isn't strong enough to protect me anymore.

"Hello?" she called, testily. "Is anyone there?"

Jon looked over to his assistant who was still asleep then he hear in a faint echo Hello? Is anyone there? Jon looked out his door and stood outside of it "Yes can I help you?" the red part of his eyes glowed in the dark the only shape that could be made out was his body and the only color that was see able was his eye's that could remind anyone of a demon. He looked over to see two people a little girl and a young gentleman about his age he smiled his teeth shined in the dark. He wondered who would come down to see him he was the only person who worked down here since of his experiment's and research disturbed those who worked around him. Jon had the strong smell of alcohol and tobacco on him which seemed to give him an distinctive smell.

Adion turned down to look at Ciel. He then said "This section of the Guild is the private labs. It's a bit far in the back, but those who are not here for class will usually be seen back here. It's just something that you will get used to if you use this place a lot."

Then Ciel stopped suddenly, calling out to see who was in the lab. A man who obviously experimented on himself popped out and had an overwelming odder of tobacco and alchol. He simply said to him "This girl was doing a sensative experiment when you let out that massive flux wave. It caused a large backfire and reversed her age. We were wondering exactly what would be the cause of such a massive wave of flux."

Jon smiled even more "No I wouldn't the only work I have been doing is working on enchantments on armor for a noble that's all I really do..." then it hit Jon like a sack rocks YES!! That's it my next work is to disrupt flux flows and pulses this would be used to counter act the disasters caused from miracles or to stop a miracle from happening. It would have to be a trap rune and a body enchantment as well. Jon laughed a bit his laughter echoed the dark halls then remembering his visitors "I have work to do now so if you don't mind I will take my leave. With a bow Jon walked back into his lab and started to pace thinking of what needs to be done and such.

Ciel stared in disbelief as the weirdo began to slink back into the darkness. Working on armor- as if! The man looked demonic for Pete's sake, it had to be him! This dude was just way too suspicious.

The little girl tightened her grip on Adion's sleeve. Was she just going to let him walk away like that? If he was really the one responsible for the flux pulse, then she might never regain her true form. Admittedly, this one was cute and flexible and all, but did she really want to relive her childhood? Images of her youth flashed through Ciel's brain and the youth paled visibly. No!

Ciel gritted her teeth. The man was scary, but she could be scarier! The little girl threw down her bundle of clothing, stomped up to the freaky guy's retreating form, noticed he didn't have any sleeves to cling to, and opted instead for latching onto the back of his shirt and pulling with all of her strength. "I know you're lying, you bastard! We know it was you, so fess up already!"

Adion looked at Jon as Ciel practically attacked him. "Ciel, calm down. If he is lying, the Alpha-Mage will tell us the truth. And Mister, all I need is to look at the specific genre of the the flux wave. I should be able to piece together the cure for Ciel here with that information." Adion spoke.

It was true. All one needs to know to fix a backfire is what type of flux wave caused it, the nature of the experiment, and the strength of both. Of course, Adion knew the strength of the flux wave, the nature of the experiment, and the strength of the experiment. Of course, an experiment that uncontrolled must have been on an experimental concept or a leap from the standard.

Jon felt his shirt being grabbed and the little girls strength ripped his shirt off reveling his discolored and horrid runes that were burned or cut into his skin looking at his torn shirt he swore "Goddamn cheap thing!" he glared at the girl wondering what the Arch-Mage would do if he used this young lady as a second reanimation experiment. He looked to the young man "Control your child or I will put this rune on her!" he pointed to a horrible scar on his neck that seemed to be nothing but cuts to scribble out a mistake. He let his hand down. Then saying to the girl "This young lady is what gave me my eyes along with some other things that drive the normal mind to insanity. You might be a perfect experiment to try it on." he pulled out a black and blue knife and a small metal rod with a heating rune. He chuckled "Now come here and I will give you a new mind as well as some other things." he at first was doing it as a joke but nearing the end he really wanted to carve into the young ling and find out if her mind would go to mush during the process.

"Eep!" Surprisingly, the man's shirt gave way to her pulling, ripping at the seams. Ciel flushed, and was about to stutter a flustered apology when she saw the scars. Her blue eyes widened, her mouth going dry. Self mutation. The little girl was unable to look away; it was like Satan had grabbed a random person and scrawled unholy scripture upon their mortal flesh. However, upon being called a child, Ciel snapped back to reality, her eyes following the vicious scarring on the man's neck.

When he pulled out a knife, she lost it. Ciel snarled, assuming a defensive stance. "Don't you dare!" she hissed. "I am a thaumaturge, not some kid you can toy with as you please. Don't take me lightly, I don't have a normal mind." Her eyes locked onto the tools. "Put those away, you fool! I swear I'll bite you if those come anywhere near me!"

Jon laughed "You being a Thaumaturge means nothing to me since I am one my self and I dare you to bite me." he took his knife and drew a fire trap on his skin. He approached the girl closely blood running down his arm he had his knife close to Ciel when everything went black instantly. There was a loud smacking sound from behind him and when Jon hit the floor Devan was reveled holding a metal bar putting it down he tended to Jon with a bandage covering up the fresh wound Jon created himself after tending to Jon he carried Jon to his bed and laid him there then came back to the two and bowed "Sorry for my master he gets carried away at times. He is very kind just in his own way. Can I help any of you two?" he had the same eyes as Jon but instead of red his were green.

Adion seemed gravitated toward a rune that most would miss because of the clothing that this man was wearing. The rune seemed to be bringing in vis, while lightly causing some flux. Adion had become so attuned to this that he could see the rune right through all of the man's clothing. "You were reanimated weren't you? That would explain the flux burst. You are still healing though, or are you simply living off of the vis?" Asked Adion. He had never seen such a perfect reanimation. The man seemed to think on his own, but showed no signs of mind control. This left Adion with only one more question barrage. "How old are you? What town were you born in? What are the names of your parents? What were your last three jobs?"

Adion looked at the man and seeing that he didn't have Jon to counter act this claim logically he answered "Last I remember I was in my late twenties twenty-nine to be exact, I was born in Helmont, Beth and Alex were my parents, and I was a blacksmith apprentice, then I left and became a lumberjack, and my last job was a mercenary." Adion almost wished he hadn't knocked Jon out earlier but he had to fend for himself "I am not a reanimated person Jon is conducting an experiment on me to see the effects of a person living on the Vis as you call it."

"Do not believe me to be a fool. Although I am impressed by the quality of the reanimation that you went through. Perfectly intact memory, full functioning intelligence, and freedom to think for one's self. The vis must be retrieving the remaining parts of your soul. As for your little lie, it's obvious that Jon, as you call him, would have tested that on himself." spoke Adion. It took him another moments thought to ask "May I inspect your runes further. I have to find out how to bring Ciel back to her real age."
