a character in “The Black Days”, as played by Xattm

Description

Desten Argos Darkwood III

Age: 56 looks like 25
Height:6’4”
Distinguishing Features: Bright red eyes, black hair, has a scar on his left eye, a tattoo on his left shoulder and carries the family sword on left hip.
Race: Lycan
Position: Alpha
Family: Darkwood first family, older brother to Jack
Abilities: Manipulation of the element of fire, this goes all the way to the point of being able to control Lightning itself. Weaknesses: Only able to use in human form, drains his power to the point that if used too much can cause him to lose control over his shifting. Alpha Howl - a deep soul wrenching howl that instinctively draws all lycans withing hearing distance (4-5 miles) to him. Alpha control - allows Desten to control other ranks of lycans, even allows him to control the shift of some.
Weapon of choice: Family sword “Venom” - enhances power of the moon. Seems to have an entity of it's own.

Personality: Being a part of the First Family blood line he is well mannered, but can be hot tempered if provoked in the right way. He is strong willed, kind hearted, but can be very hard headed at times and his emotions will sometimes get the better of him. He always puts the pack’s needs over his own and even though he is Alpha he still likes the company of all the other wolves. To him they are all family and he would die to protect each and every one of them.
Mate: N/A
Alpha/Beta:

History: First born son of Desten Argos Darkwood Jr. and Rachel Elizebeth Darkwood, Desten was the prodigy child, he learned how to control his lycan form by the age of 10, could manipulate the element of fire by the age of 13, and proved to be the top of his generation, proving that he was indeed his father’s son. Somehow even though his was the son of the Alpha, Desten always seemed to find his way into some sort of trouble and never failing to drag his cousin Lucius with him. He loved playing and joking around while his father would deal with his uncles and all the problems of the family. He would every now and then stop to listen to the words of his father and gaze at the blade that was strapped to his side, hoping that one day he would get to be the Alpha, the one calling the shots and getting to protect everyone. If only he knew the price it would come at.

The night of his 21st birthday Desten, Jack, their cousin and a few of his friends went out on the town to celebrate his becoming a true man of the pack and a victory that he had won against some of their blood enemies the vampires. When he returned home the sight he came into could only be described by him as his worst nightmare come true. His father and mother had both been murdered in the bed room where they slept. No one knew what or who had caused this but the air was thick with the smell of vampire and human. Rage and pain filled Desten’s heart and all he could think about was finding out who did this and making them pay. The next day after the funeral Desten took an oath on his father’s grave that he would protect his brother, lead the pack as his father had taught him and swore to find his killer and make him pay. With those promises Desten became the youngest Alpha in history.

That day happened 35 years ago, now with his little brother and Lucius at his right side and his father’s sword on his left, Desten has become one of the most well know lycans to ever exist. He will find out what happened to cause his parents deaths…if it takes till the end of time to do so.

Lucius, was wondering the streets of Olimpious' upper class market ,also known as Imre, with his must trusted friend and leader Desten. They had just arrived in Imre that morning. They had made a stop the day before in the lower class part of the city named Tarbean. Desten and Lucius had a mission to accomplish and they couldn't do it without first seeing their enemy first hand. They would live the lives of humans for the next few months and see the world they are about to conquer. Or at least that's the plan.

"Desten...the market is so quiet here." Lucius stated the obvious. In Tarbean the merchants yelled and bargained and begged for business. Here everyone talked to each other no yelling or bargaining. Lucius felt uneasy in the quiet market seeing how before the streets were loud and full of life and although these streets held a life of there own, it was not the same.

Lucius was dressed in a white cotton billowed shirt that hung loosely open around his neck relieving some of his chest. That was sloppily tucked into his soft brown leather pants. He carried with him a satchel made of the same soft leather filled to the seams with papers and books. His long black hair was softly tied back with a piece of twine loose strands of his hair fell around his chiseled face. His sharp green eyes danced around examining everything around him.

Some young ladies approached and took a liking to Desten and Lucius their tall muscular physique. One was blonde and hazel eyed dressed in a light blue silk tight fitted bodice and full skirt the other was a brunet with blue eyes and a light purple dress with a lace covered corset and full skirt.

"Hi, my name is Sarah and this is Becky we couldn't help but noticed you two. Never seen you in this part of town before." Sarah flirted leaning up against Desten. "Have you had lunch? Becky and I were just about to stop at Joe's and get a bite. Want to come?" she asked batting her eyes at Desten and pressing her breasts against his arm.

Lucius kept his eyes on Becky who was looking down at her feet and glancing up at him. 'Desten, these ladies want to take us to an Inn later and do...things...I don't think we should go with them.' Lucius communicated with Desten threw telepathy.

As much as Desten would agree with his cousin that this side of town was much different then one they had passed threw the previous day, he felt no need to acknowledge obvious statement that he made. Instead Desten just kept walking absorbing every bit of information he could from what he was seeing of the world around him. The way people moved and acted towards one another with what seemed to be no care in the world. This place sickened him.

Desten wore a black cotton button up shirt with, black leather pants, a necklaces cross with a ruby in the center and his family's sword on his left hip. His long black hair left free hanging slightly in his face with his red eyes scanning his surroundings. His interest and attention fell upon two females as the approached him and Lucius.

Desten understood what they wanted before his cousin even told him. ‘Maybe we can learn a little bit about the way these people are from this, loosen up and let’s just go with them for now. If it gets bad we can always bail.’ He communicated to Lucius. “Well we are a little new to this town and it would be a shame to turn down such a great invitation from such lovely ladies now wouldn’t it?” Desten said with a smile. “Please lead the way Ms. Sarah.”

Sarah and Becky giggled to themselves and Becky took Lucius's hand and Sarah took Desten's and they lead them down the road and turned a single corner. The pub was made of wood and laughter rang out from it's doors even so early in the day. A smirk came to Lucius's face as the laughter rang out.

Sarah and Becky giggled as they dragged the two muscular men behind them. They pulled open the heavy wooden doors needing both hands to open them. Lucius and Desten walked in all eyes on them. Followed the ladies to a table in the back of the room. Some people went back to their drinks others whispered to one another about them and some just watched them as if something was going to happen.

Desten and Lucius pulled out the chairs for the young ladies. Sarah and Becky smiled to each other and sat down. Lucius sat next to Becky and Desten beside Sarah. A waitress came over and asked for their drink order. Sarah and Becky ordered their usual and two bowls of beef stew. Lucius gazed over to the bar for a moment "Spiced rum over ice please and bring me a bowl of that stew too. That sounds delightful. Thanks."

The waitress turned to Desten with a soft smile. "And what for you deary?" The waitress looked to be about the same age as Sarah and Becky maybe a year or two 25 at the oldest. She had something in her eyes that the others didn't a responsibility a meaning. Her natural red hair was mostly tide up in a loose bun some of it draping at the sides of her face. Her eyes were a lovely hazel with a natural glow.

"A loaf of bread and the strongest drink in the house." He said looking the waitress. He couldn't help but notice the women's beautiful eyes and vibrant red hair. He held her gaze for a moment and then went back to talking to Sarah. He asked her all he could about where she was born and how she made her living, hoping to learn something useful. "So what do a couple of beautiful ladies such as yourselves do for fun in this town?"

Sarah looked over at Becky with a sly look then back at Desten and answered, " Just try to stay out of trouble." she said as she moved over to sit on his lap. The waitress was back setting down the food when the door broke open with a large burly man stomping threw with a look a anger streaking across his face as he panned threw the room. When his eyes found the table where Desten, Lucius, and the girls where sitting. "And Trouble just found us." Sarah said with a sigh.

"Hey you, What the fuck are you doing with my girlfriend you bastard!!" The man said walking towards the table. The man came at him with his fist reared back making it clear he wasn't going to give Desten the chance to answer with the waitress still standing there between them. Desten quickly moved Sarah back to her seat and was between the man and the waitress before he could even blink. Desten caught the man by the forearm, went under his arm and spun him around throwing the large man into the ground at his feet. The man quickly got up and grabbed a chair but before he could even swing it Desten had his sword drawn and to the mans throat making it clear he didn't want the fight to go on any longer.

At the sound of the door busting open Lucius almost jumped from his seat. Then he quickly regained his composer. He sat calmly at the table watching the furious man seemingly charge at the table. Lucius watched and let out a sigh as Desten took it a step to far and threw the man to the ground. He could hear Desten's sword being awakened from it's sleep. He immediately stood and walked up to the two men. Gently moving the waitress out of the way. "Gentlemen I'm sure this barkeep would appreciate all of his chairs and tables in tacked. Why don't we settle this like real men and have a drinking contest?" Lucius gave a look to Desten 'There is no need to dirty such a lovely blade with his blood.' Lucius whispered to Desten's mind.

The man glared at Sarah and Becky at the table and they quickly slid down a chair. The man pulled out the chair closest to him and turned it around swinging his legs over the back he sat down with a certainty about himself. "You don't know what you just volunteered your friend into." he said with a grin. Lucius ignored him and calmly walked to the chair next to Sarah leaving a spot open for Desten closest to the rude man.

"One bottle of whatever he's drinking and two glasses!" the man said in a booming voice to the waitress even though she was only three steps away. "Would you like me to open a tab for you sir?" she asked with a polite smile.

Desten listened to his cousin's advice and re-sheathed his sword. He walked to the table calmly and sat down next to Lucius. "Oh please do try to take it easy on me. I don't drink that often so it might be hard to keep pace." Desten joked with a grin towards the large man who sat before him. "Okay boy when I out drink you you're going to give me that pretty sword of yours then leave this town and never return here again. You got that?" the large man said with a sneer.

"Okay and when I win you're going to pay for all of our food and drinks in the pub till the day my cousin and I leave, and just for shits and giggles you're going to apologize to this kind young waitress for being so rude and busting in the door like that. Am I understood?" Desten asked with a now blank expression.

The large man let out a laugh that sounded more like a mix between a belch and a laugh. "You got some balls kid I will give you that and just to humor you I accept your challenge." he said as the waitress returned with their drinks.

Desten looked at his cousin with a grin, 'This is going to be fun.' He said with a bit of joy in his thoughts. They started to shoot shot after shot and after the first 15 the large man started to waver, Desten however seemed unfazed. As they cashed the first bottle Desten looked at the man and smiled. "You're starting to look a bit green there sir, are you sure you want to continue?"

"I won'ts loose to a half coalked nubby likes you. Woman keep them coming." the man said with a slur. They continued to shoot until they got to half way down the second bottle and the man raised his 27th shot, looked at the glass and fell backwards to the ground with a load thud. "Well I guess he's had enough." Desten said with a smile. He grabbed the bottle and turned to Lucius, "Hey cousin want some? A tab just opened up."

Lucius, looked to his cousin with a smile and flagged the waitress to bring him a fresh glass."Heck why not." The waitress soon returned with a new glass. "Here you are sir." she said with a bright smile. She was happy that they had settled things the way they had instead of breaking tables and chairs. "Excuse me? We never got your name." Lucius asked. "Scarlett, Scarlett Callerfox nice to meet you and welcome to Joe's." she smiled a sweet smile to both of them and left the table never going out of eye sight.

Lucius poured himself a glass and downed it. "Man...why would you drink that? It tastes..." he paused and took a bite out of the bread. He poured another glass for himself and drank it. Sarah and Becky had dragged the drunken man away from the table and had left seeing how embarrassed they were. "Desten, what's the point? This doesn't do anything for us and it tastes well it doesn't taste good."

One random man pulled Scarlet over. "Next bottles on me." he said loud enough for everyone close by to hear. A confidant smile came to Lucius's face. "You ready to drink him out of town?" Lucius asked eying the doorway were the women had taken the drunk.

"I drink this shit cause it's the strongest so it has the best chance of making me feel a little tingle and it allows me to put BOYs like him in his place without wasting to much." Desten said with a slight grin, his eyes never leaving the waitress. She was very pretty and definitely seemed different, but to Desten different is good.

Desten's focus went back to his cousin as he asked him if he wanted to drink his "opponent" out of this town. "Hell I think we have learned enough for the night so why not. You're a better drinking buddy any way. At least with you I don't feel like I'm wasting the 'fun juice'." He said as he raised another shot to his mouth.

Desten leaned in a bit more to keep prying ears from hearing him. "So, what's the plan for tomorrow? Shall we explore this new city more or shall we good deeper into the 'unknown'?" Desten asked as he took a peace of bread and ate it. He downed a few more shots while he waited for Lucius to answer.

Lucius took another drink "I think we should stay another day or two. We really didn't learn anything other than human women find us attractive." Lucius joked. The two of them finished off the second bottle and Lucius waved Scarlett over. "Would you please bring us each a bottle?" he asked her kindly. Scarlett couldn't help but stair for a moment as other people who over heard turned their heads. Many men would have been under the table half way threw the first bottle.

"Sure thing." she said shaking herself out of her shocked state. She went to get the two bottles. "I take it you gentle men want to stay with us seeing as your rooms are already paid?" she asked motioning to the spare rooms upstairs they kept open for men who couldn't make it out the door much less home.

"That sounds like a wonderful idea thank you, Miss Scarlett." Lucius bowed his head slightly then opened his bottle and tilted it back. It was odd to see Lucius drink he never was much of a partier he was always the pessimistic one when it came to drinking. He thought it was a waist of money and tasted awful.

"Don't forget to save some for tomorrow." Scarlett joked before heading off to take care of other customers. Scarlett seemed to glide around the room a bright smile always on her lovely face.

Lucius and Desten drank and laughed together till shortly after night fall when a rumor started going around the pup that some man had been drained dry by a vampire and cast out of the forest. Lucius's ears perked up and he recapped his drink. He didn't say a word to Desten he didn't have to. They both stood and walked out following the whispered of frightened humans.

Desten topped off the last of his bottle just as Scarlett brought him a new one that was requested by Lucius. He found himself a little puzzled because it seemed to him that Lucius was actually enjoying drinking and relaxing which was a rare sight, but rather than question it he figured it would be better to just let Lucius enjoy himself for once. Even a think tank like him needs to unwind sometimes. He also rather enjoy watching Scarlett move across the room with such precision and grace. Desten would have been willing to wager that she could do all of her work blindfolded and do it better than any other server he had ever came across before.

He seemed to be almost in a trance watching her as he continued on his drink, until he over herd one of the customers that came in talking of a man completely drained of his blood found right on the edge of the forest. Left there like tossed out trash. Desten looked over at his cousin also took notice and with out speaking a word they were both up and out the door towards the direction that the heard the corps had been found.

"Looks like we get to see first hand at how the humans handle a message from the vamps." he said as Lucius and him ran at a very slow pace to seem more human. "Who knows maybe we will get lucky and get to find some action up here while we are at it." he said with a repressed grin.

When they got to the seen, the body was still laying on the ground. It wasn't much more than skin and bones now that the vampire had drank the poor man dry. "The poor bastard didn't stand a chance. Looks like there are several different bite marks on him, all very recent." He said as he leaned in closer to the body. The stench of a vampire was all over the body and not just one but two. The smell of dead that don't wrote made his nose hurt but the smell isn't what was getting his attention, it was all the bites. There were well over five different places he had been bit, way more times than what would have been necessary. 'It's like they were playing with their food before they killed it,' he thought to where Lucius could hear it. This was much worse than what he thought they would do. "And they call us the beasts." He said as he looked back up scanning the forest looking to see if the culprit was still around, this seemed like the work of someone who might stick around to marvel in their own handy work.

Clarissa Vasiliev

Clarissa had felt her brother use her shadows. She never liked it very much. It was an odd feeling, like someone had reached into her body with their bare hands and pulled out part of her soul. Or...whatever resided in there. Some said only humans got to have souls. It actually made a lot of sense.

When Alba let them go, she felt them snap back to her like a rubber band that had been stretched too thin and then released. She took a very unneeded deep breath for a moment, just to clear the odd feeling out of her body. Then she found a tree branch to rest on for a second. It drained her, to be used like that.

She was going to leave when a rather foul smell reached her nostrils, and her eyes snapped over to the corpse she had left out on the humans land. The shadows drew closer to her on instinct, and her dark dress blended into the night making it unsure where she ended and the shadows really began.

"The poor bastard didn't stand a chance. Looks like there are several different bite marks on him, all very recent."

Lycans. She suddenly recognized the smell. She'd only had one run-in with them before, but it hadn't been a particularly friendly meeting. Not that Clarissa was a particularly friendly being. The corpse they were leaning over was proof of that. And Clarissa couldn't help but be very proud of herself.

She leaned forward on the branch, trying to get a closer look. Her excellent vision stretched passed the trees to where the two large males were, but the thick forest and the shadows swooping around her gave the scene a hazy look. Like a long forgotten memory.

Still, she could make out the larger of the two scanning the forest, looking for her she was sure. She grinned slowly. Let them look.

"Why are there Lycans so close to us?!" Lucius heard him clear as day and he knew Desten did to. "They're not worth it!" Lucius griped Desten's shoulder. "This isn't part of the plan, remember. Remember how you want to get back at them. This isn't that way." Lucius said in a calm even tone. Lucius was trying to reason with Desten before his anger took over. Desten was normally clear headed but when it came to vampires...and them being that close. You never knew if he'd be cool about it or furious.

Lucius's eyes searched the forest only the smell of the two vampires was there no sight of them. They were to deep into the woods. The wife of the dead man at their feet soon arrived falling to her knees at his side weeping. Lucius gazed down at the poor woman his heart reaching out for her loosing someone she loved. "Desten, lets let the woman grieve." he whispered slowly backing away from the lifeless body that was once this woman's husband and the father to her children.

Clarissa didn't answer her brother. She knew she didn't have to, if she didn't know the answer herself. She could only use telepathy with him anyway, wasn't like she could read lycan minds or anything,

She snickered softly as he shouted his question. He was doing it on purpose. They could talk together in octaves too low for humans to even hear, but Vincent was taunting them. Surprise, surprise.

Apparently, from what she could so easily overhear, these certain lycan's had a problem with their kind. She could tell one was very clearly trying to calm down the other. Her head tilted slightly.

"Sounds like revenge, brother dearest. Did you hear that?" she asked even though she could hear them, but she was talking in barely a whisper. Her face split into a grin as a new person suddenly arrived. A woman. Weeping.

"Desten, lets let the woman grieve."

If possible, Clarissa smiled even more and slowly opened her hand at her sides. The shadows crawled across the dark forest floor, slowly and ominously until they stretched just beyond the forest line, gathering under the corpse. She closed her fist and they snapped around his limbs like veins.

With one fluid jerk, the humans body suddenly disappeared back into the forest with a quickness that made the woman scream and try to jump forward and catch him, to keep him with her.

Lucius jumped forward catching the woman who was fighting and weeping trying to reach her husband. "You have children they can't loose both their mother and father. " Lucius spoke softly to the woman trying to talk her out of what would be suicide. The woman clawed and kicked at Lucius demanding to be let go. They truly were a sight to be seen this woman screaming and weeping and Lucius calmly holding her back. "Please come to your senses. Your children will need you now more than ever."

"How do you know I have kids?" she stopped fighting with him for a moment and turned to face him her eyes full of tears. Lucius couldn't just say he smelled them on her.

"Your clothes. You have stains on your clothes only mothers have." Lucius answered awkwardly. She was wearing a brown cotton dress with tears in the knee and spit up on her left shoulder. She had dirt on the hem or her dress and her shoes were well worn.

The first thing that ran threw Desten's mind was to charge where the voice came from, but his cousin's quick reassurance made him think twice. He could make out the conversation between the vampires and learned that there where only two different voices. One a man and another sounded like a young woman. He didn't much care for how Lucius has bluntly said that it wasn't part of there plan but form the sounds of the vampires conversation, "Sounds like revenge, brother dearest. Did you hear that?" it seemed like they really didn't know just who they really were which could play into there favor.

Desten's train of thought was rudely interrupted as the body of the man was suddenly jerked off but before he lost sight of it he moved his hand up faster than the human eye could fully see and sent a small flame on the mans cloths setting the body ablaze and burning it to ashes in seconds. "You shall not desecrate that body any further with your childish actions." he said in a low voice just loud enough so that the vampires would hear it. The fire quickly caught a few trees next to body setting a small fire off. He took one last look in the direction he knew the vampires were in and then turned back to his cousin who was trying to argue with the grieving woman.

'We will get her out of here first, then think of what to do next,' he said threw thought to Lucius. Desten bent down and looked at the woman in the face changing his eyes so that the woman would be scared and faint. Desten stood up and called over a medic that was near. "Sir can you help this woman has gone into shock at the sight of her departed husband and the body being pulled into the woods. Can you please help us get her to a safe place?" He said in a voice mimicking a sound of panic.

As the medic helped show Lucius where to take the mother, Desten looked over his shoulder one more time and gave a faint smile then turned back around and ran after them.

Vincent frowned, hands in his pockets, as he watched the fire. He actually had a plan to kill the rest of his boredom off but since the body was engulfed in flames...

With a small sigh and an arched eyebrow, Vincent borrowed some of his older sister's abilities. More specifically her shadow manipulation. He watched as his shadow walked through him in a sluggish manner before dropping over the corpse. The flames began to die down almost immediately. The young vampire walked over to the corpse and scrunched his nose slightly at the awful smell. Another reason why he didn't like burning corpses.

His molten gold eyes slid off the man's and up towards were the Lycans were. He could feel one of them looking at them. He didn't like that feeling. Not at all.

He looked away when he felt them leave... surely they would return. Perhaps not in the same day but... something was off. He would need to inform his Father later on. "Clarissa..." The male vampire said in a whisper as he crouched down.

He sunk his right hand into the corpse and searched around until he felt something hard. He wrapped his clawed hand around the object and yanked it out, sighing at the loud crack and the piece of... whatever that flew out and landed on his cheek. With his left hand he flicked the meat off and then stood. "Bone."

Vincent had another plan. Normally he would've just shrugged off the event but... this time it was different. Humans knew very well that anyone who entered the forest were prey in the eyes of vampires. They, the vampires, had done nothing wrong. Whatever reason that the human had for entering the forest did not matter to the vampires. If he wanted to speak he should have spoken to one of the human royals in order to arrange a proper meeting. There were rules that had to be followed and when they weren't... consequences followed one's actions.

"I can use your shadow manipulation to transform into the deceased male. This bone should give me enough information to perfectly mimic his appearance. His voice would be easy as well. The memory on the other hand... not so easily. If the whole body had not been burnt..." He shook his head. "Well, there's not reason to think about the impossible."

"Now, I was thinking that you could lure the woman out towards the forest once more. You could use your shadow manipulation to copy the man's shadow. If you're able to do that then you could easily lure her out. Just make sure that she only sees glimpses of the shadow. Since she's grieving I'm sure she won't think logically and easily follow." Alba spoke carefully, as if still thinking everything through.

"Seems like a good plan." He whispered as he tossed the bone to his sister.

There were many that believed that he wasn't smart. That was a great understatement. He was very smart... but he hated responsibility. If people found out about his intelligence then they would not stop pestering him. He only showed his smart side to his sister. "This could have all been avoided but they just had to burn the body..." He stretched his arms above his head.

"It's nighttime... but I believe that everyone would be keeping a close eye on the woman." He muttered as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Maybe I should go after the kids... I'll still have to use that shadow manipulation of yours though. Only because of the contract between vampires and humans. I won't be able to just storm in there and kidnap the kids. Well... that and... I like messing with people. Those poor children will crawl into my arms thinking that their dear Father is still alive..."

Vincent chuckled after picking up his rabbit. "What do you want to do?" He asked his sister as he began petting his pet.

Lucius and the medic escorted the woman home. Lucius asked Desten to head back to the pub and make sure their rooms were reserved. Lucius was greeted by a four year old boy who'd woken up looking for his mommy and a baby crying for attention. The medic tended to the mother as Lucius took the boy by the hand and led him into the room with his baby sister who was crying. Lucius picked up the little one and she soon stopped crying. He then took the little boy to the only bed in the house and told him to lye down.

"What's wrong with mommy?" he asked looking deep into Lucius's eyes.

"She's very sad right now and she will be for a very long time. Your mother is going to need your help now. Do you understand?" The young boy nodded a yes and pulled the covers over his legs. "Good. You're going to have to be strong for your mommy making sure she eats and sleeps but tonight this nice medic is going to take care of mom okay." Lucius almost whispered. The young boy looked up to Lucius and knew what he said was true. "Do you need anything before you go to bed?" he asked the young boy. The boy simply shook his head no and slid down into bed and closed his eyes. Lucius smiled softly and then a unpleasant smell came to his nose. He stood up and walked out of the room and found where the mother kept the clean cloth.

He set her down on the table and found the water bowl he soaked a rag and rung it out. He then did his best to change this little girl. This baby that wasn't even as long as his forearm. He cleaned her up and she dribbled out cute noises as he made faces at the stench. Her crystal blue eyes smiling back at him made him smile. He washed up and placed her back in her bassinet.

He walked into the living room to see that the mother was asleep and the medic was relieved. "Is she going to be alright?" Lucius asked. The Medic nodded and turned back to his patient. Lucius chose to take his leave and walk back to the pup.

All the while Scarlett and the barkeep were arguing. Desten could hear the argument from outside. "You still owe me for last month!" Scarlett protested.

"Wretch I paid you what you deserve." he said sticking his nose up at her.

"You paid me half of what I earned last month and none of what I got this month."

"You've gotten every penny."

"My tips keep getting messed with. Did you think I wouldn't notice!"

That's when Desten entered the pub. Pure silence filled the air for a moment before Scarlett returned to her usual happy self. "Well if it isn't the bottomless pit!" she joked a bright smile on her face. "Did you still want those rooms? I just finished putting fresh sheets on them if you're still interested." she said walking closer to him.

A slight grin crossed Desten's face at the "bottomless pit!" comment. "Yes my cousin and I will be staying here if you don't mind. He will be back shortly I am sure. I hope it's not any extra trouble on you miss." he said with a soft undertone. He couldn't help but wonder why the barkeep and her were having so much trouble with money disputes, the place seemed to run pretty smoothly and it stayed rather busy form what he saw tonight. Either way it really wasn't his business so he figured he would keep the question to himself for now.

"So do you mind if I ask which room is mine?" he said as he approached Scarlett. He didn't know the place and he didn't want to come off as rude. He couldn't get the thought of that mans body out of his head or the way those vampires tried to take that it back and the grieving widow with it. Now he was worrying about what was wrong with this woman that he just met.

Scarlett smiled brightly "Not a problem." she said walking in front of him. She walked to a cut out in the counter and lifted it up. "Follow me." Scarlett looked over her shoulder with a smile that could bring happiness to the dead. She lead him to some hidden stairs to a hallway the length of the building. There were five doors four bedrooms and one bathrooms. "This is my room the barkeeps sons room and the two guest rooms. Please take your pick." she opened the doors to the two rooms.

The rooms were almost identical almost mirror images of each other. Only the one on the right had a desk and the one on the left did not. Scarlett, walked into the room on the left. "I changed the sheets in both of the rooms, swept, and dusted we haven't had guest in a long while." she smiled at him. "My room is across the hall if you need anything." she walked out of the room. "If you'll excuse me I need to finish cleaning down stairs. Please enjoy your stay at Joe's pub."

She walked down the stairs and grabbed a broom and started sweeping the floor. "And that's why we call you two faced." the barkeep said smugly. Scarlett glared at him. "Don't think that conversation is over we'll continue it some other time."

Lucius walked threw the front door seeing the glare on Scarlett's face. Scarlett lived up to her nickname and had a bright beautiful smile. "Your friend is upstairs would you like me to show you the way?" Lucius returned her smile "No, thank you I can make it." he replied. He walked up the stairs.
