|History|
"That was then. This is now"
His family was close with the Miraf's. Kane's father often left with Jen's to go hunt demons. His Mother watched the both of them after Jen's mother was killed. He grew up with the girl, and they grew close throughout time. A few rare times they were allowed to tag along on his fathers hunt to observe the "proper" ways to do things. Kane's father was very strict, a bit of an abusive man. He made Kane train hard, and often. The family had a leather book passed down through the generations - full of the tips and tricks of killing a demon. It is full of different symbols to draw, and techniques. He shared the book with Jen which got him in a lot of trouble. After the village was burnt down they took his father's truck and left to go start anew. He has an undying rage against the creatures that stole his family from him, and considers Jen to be a sister. In the back of the truck are many different sorts of demon hunting items. From holy water to salt, he has a majority of the items.

"We're going out!" Was the first words heard after Cosette entered though her hotel room door. "What?" She asked, after swallowing her mouth full of chips, and handing the small stale bag she got from the vending machine to her best friend, August. He just gave her the dopey, charming smile that was always naturally plated on his face, before repeating "We're going out," and shoving a handful of the original flavoured chips in his mouth. Cosette groaned, before plopping herself onto one of the two queen sized beds occupying the cramped room. "Auggie," She said, glancing her gold eyes over to him, "Where would we even go out to? Didn't you say you didn't want to risk being seen?" He just shrugged, before crumpling up the bag and throwing it into the small trash can at the far end of the room. "Well, there's tons of clubs, we could find one. Besides, if we are in a crowded area, I highly doubt anyone would recognize me. Also, any demon wouldn't really risk being in a crowded area at night alone." Cosette stared at him for a few seconds, all the while chewing her lip in deep thought. He was right. Any ways, any demon this far up wouldn't have known that August, one of the famous O'Dairs, had run away yet. It had only been a week, and information doesn't go up the demon phone tree very fast. Hell, his family probably wouldn't want anyone to know he'd flee'd.

You see, August and Cosette we're demons who had run away from their homes about a week ago, the whole time living in this cramped hotel room in New York City. Cosette came from the Vale family. Powerful Pyrokenetics, but also not very well known. Since recently, it had shrunken down from Three, to two. Just her Mom and herself. Her dad died from hunter only a couple of weeks before hand, a trigger almost for Cosette to run. August however came from probably the most well known mind-using demons out there; the O'Dairs. They were... cold. Harsh. Everything August was not. That was probably he ran away, his abusive like family was just getting to much for him. The night after her father was buried, thankfully after recovering his body, she had run to August in panic and sadness. Sadness about her father, their ways of life, and the fact that everything as just to dark for the girl who saw life in everything to handle. All he did was comfort her in silence, before murmuring "Then let's just leave." So they did. They ran to New York city, believing the busy streets would help them run. So far, it was okay, but Cosette felt suffocated. She loved to travel and do things, and sitting in an ugly wallpapered hotel room was not ideal for her. The idea of even setting foot outside was tempting.

She smiled widely.

Getting up from the bed, she stood up and asked him, "You sure you want to risk it? We could just order another movie off of paper view again," she questioned, not wanting him to force himself. The truth was August wanted to do it. He was a social butterfly, and as much as he loved Cosy, he wanted to talk to someone else that he didn't know everything and anything about. Giving her a smile, he just nodded. Cosette threw her arms around him in a tight hug, and laughed her infectious laugh. "This is going to be fun!" She laughed, letting him go, before studying the boy messy attire. "Come on, go change." She stated at him, before he gave her a pretend hurt look. "Well If you insist, but girls love this look." Cosette snorted, just shaking her head before sitting on a chair. "Just go," She laughed, before clicking on the TV, while August went to the bathroom to change. In a few moments, he emerged in a smarter outfit, a black blazer, maroon dress shirt, and beige pants. "What do you think?" He asked, giving her a small wink of his green eyes. Cosette studied him, biting her lip like she often did. "Change the pants you look like you're going to the Yacht club." She smiled, before walking over to his still unpacked suitcase and throwing some darker pants his way. He rolled his eyes, before doing as she commanded, and emerging from the bathroom in his full outfit. "Better?" He asked, before Cosette nodded, saying "Better."

Standing up, Cosette grabbed her purse, and looked over her shoulder, saying "Well let's go," before August grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "Nuh uh, If I have to change, so do you Cosy." She groaned, before going over to the closet and pulling out a random dress, and putting it on in the bathroom which was the only private place she could. Walking out, she gave a small twirl, and a look his way that asked'This okay?'. August shook his head, "That's not very party, kid." He tsk'd, before grabbing a dress that her mother had bought her for special occasions from the closet. Cosette realized it was no use to argue, and just put the dress on, knowing it was the only way August was going to let her go out. He chuckled, before saying "There you go." and waltzing out of the door, holding it open for her all the while.

She was walking out, but he stopped her again, raising an eyebrow, saying "Contacts?" Cosette's eyes widened, before racing back to the bathroom and putting on her evergreen contacts that covered up her demon gold eyes. Can't forget those. She put an extra set in her purse, just in case.

Climbing into a cab, August just told the driver to go to one of the clubs near by, and they drove along. Cosette sat uncomfortably, a little self concious. "I look a bit dressy for a club." She said to August. He glanced down at the shorter girl, saying "You look fine. It's better to look classy in a club then be literally under dressed like most people." She shrugged, Like always, he was right.

The taxi pulled up to a club, one that was black outside that looked a little better run then some of the more run down ones they passed. August paid the man, before he drove away. There was barley any line to get in, so within five minutes, they where in the loud and socializing space after showing their I.D's. August's was real, as he was twenty three. Cosettes, not so much. She was only twenty, but she knew a person who made one for her. She was twenty one in a few days, so it wasn't all bad or illegal. August left her side almost immediately, promising he would be back with drinks. As he made his way to the bar, Cosette made her way to a couch in a seated area.

"One drink, one night, and we'll be on our way again" Kane said while shirtless, rummaging through his suitcase of newly bought clothes.
"Hell if I'm going to be with you for god knows how long, I'll need a lot more than one drink" Jennette teased, going through her suitcase full of clothes with tags as well. The two didn't exactly get enough time to grab their things and run the night their town was pillaged and destroyed. Only the quickest item in reach and whatever was in the truck was all they had. The cheap motel they stayed at was decent for the price, but nothing top notch. It was just two double sized beds, a mini fridge, small worn sofa with an old TV, and a bathroom. It would be enough to keep them for the night. They had gotten used to living with the bare necessities, being what they are.
"Does this top scream 'I'm single and kinda looking to mingle, but actually I want you to just buy me a drink?'" Jen asked Kane who had dressed in a plaid shirt with blue jeans. It was a simple night out, he didn't need to dress up. Looking over at Jen's red top of choice he nodded.
"To me it screams 'I want to get laid, but get me a drink first'"
"Perfect" Jen replied, going into the bathroom to change. They were close friends, but not that close. After a few minutes she came out dressed in the red top, with black leather pants. If she was going out, she chose to do it looking hot. With dark makeup, spiked shoes, and a purse that had the demon dagger - as well as their money and I.D's they were off. Not before Kane had to stop them however.
"Wait, we're forgetting something" he said before grabbing a thick piece of black chalk and drawing a devils trap underneath the rug near the door. It was to ensure if demons attempted to get into their room, they would get stuck in the circle until they got back.

Being a demon hunter isn't an easy job. It's a never ending job, that becomes a life. Many demon hunters can never settle down due to the paranoia of losing their family if they have one. Family becomes a liability in the world they live in. Demons can sense weakness, and prey on it. Jen and Kane's parents were different however. Their parents got cocky. Both descended from a long line of demon hunters. Demons feared their parents, and them. All but the one that successfully killed their families. They're the last of the line for their families. Death may be inevitable, but the two want to postpone it for as long as they can. Long enough to wipe out the demons crawling among them.

After salting the windows, Kane finally felt they were ready to go. Jen asked for directions from the shady old man in the lobby of the motel, and they left. Taking Kane's truck they left. Jen was prepared to be whoever she needed to be tonight. Every time they went out "The Actress" had a different persona prepared. Jen could be a sweet, kind girl when needed. A flirtatious mystery. An intelligent bookwarm. She played them all. Though in reality she was just a smart ass that kills demons and kept herself guarded from getting hurt.

They drove through the city, and parked the car on the sidewalk near the club. It wasn't packed yet, that was a relief to both of them. Both of them took out their I.D's and showed the bouncer when they got to the front of the short line. The man nodded before allowing them in. Inside the part was just getting started.
"Drinks. What do you want?" Jen asked Kane, who was still searching the room. He was always cautious - even though it was his idea in the first place.
"Just get me a summer shandy. I'm going to scout the place out a bit, find us a place to hang" Kane said before walking to where the seats and couches were, eyeing the few people there momentarily. Jen however went to the bar with a smile. Sitting down on a bar stool she called over the bartender, who gave her a long look.
"What will it be dear?" the man asked. The guy wasn't her type by any stretch, but playing nice could get her a nice discount.
"You have a summer shandy and raspberry margarita?" she asked. The man nodded at her before going to grab the beer and make her drink. She liked fruity drinks. Jen found herself looking at a guy that was at the bar as well. He wasn't a bad looking guy. Shame she couldn't really bring anyone home, there was no door between her and Kane's bed.

Meanwhile Kane found a tall table with four chairs at it. It overlooked the dance floor, giving them a nice few of the club. A "practical" view. A cute girl was nearby as well. Kane didn't see any problem with talking to a few people while they were here - right?
"Hey" he waved at the girl who wore a rather formal dress.

August O'Dair
August sat himself down on one of the bar stools, Glancing back behind him to see if Cosette had sat down somewhere. She was a little bit out of his view, but he did see her settle down. Turning back, he gave a charming smile to the female bartender who approached him, asking him, "What'll it be, darlin'?", with a small oakey accent. August smiled, and said "I'll have a beer of your choice and a black cat, please." He didn't know what kind of cocktail Cosette would want, so he chose one for her. It seemed like a black cat seemed like a pretty safe bet. She gave him a cute petite smile, saying "Comin' right up." before turning away to get them ready. August glanced around the area, trying to spot any potential threats or demons or painfully obvious hunters which appeared sometimes. He would open up his mind to start reading thoughts, but there where too many people for him to concentrate on one person at each time. He really didn't feel like getting a headache.

Turning his head to look at those at the bar stools, he noticed an attractive girl, around his age, glancing his way. Giving his 'Prince Charming' smile, he gave a small wave, before turning his attention back to the country girl bartender who was just finishing up the drinks. She was about to put a strawberry on the side of the black cat's drink, but before she did he called out to her, "Hold the strawberry please. Put that on there, you'd be calling an ambulance pretty soon." He chuckled, as the girl nodded and proceeded to throw the strawberry away. Cosette had an allergy. A very bad allergy to them, and if she ingested it, her throat would close up and she would be rendered breathless. Demons never had allergies, it was a rare occasion. But Cosette really was the least demon-like demon ever.

After the bartender passed him the drinks, he gave her a grin, saying "Thanks, can you start a tab up," before taking a sip of his beer that she had put in an odd tall glass. "Also, put the cute brunettes drinks on it too." He said, saying it casually while pointing to her so she would know who it was. He was a little loud, making sure she heard it. "Sure thing," The bartender smiled, as August got back up, both drinks in hand. He made sure he didn't leave before giving the girl a wink of his green eyes.

Cosette Vale
Cosette still felt uncomfortable. Yeah, she liked to do things and keep moving, but she wasn't as big as a social butterfly as August was. She felt almost suffocated in large crowds, but she could deal with it. Just maybe not in this damn dress. She sunk down in her chair a bit, scanning the area so see if there were any demons, or hunters, that she could recognize. Cosette had a knack for recognizing faces. Feeling safe enough, she un-stiffened, and glanced over to where Auggie was at the bar. He seemed to be giving a flirty look at some girl, from what she could tell. "Why doesn't that surprise me." She laughed under her her breath.

A voice cut through her thoughts, and grabbed her attention.

Glancing over at a very attractive guy, she sat up better, realizing how much she had kind of sunken into her chair. "Hi," She said back to him, giving her infectiously kind smile. She debated getting up and going over there, but before she could really decide, August showed back up, drinks in hand. Handing her the cocktail, she glanced into it, almost hesitantly. She had drank before yes, but not this. Glancing up, he said "You'll like it, come on." Before sitting down across, and lifting his beer to his mouth. Cosette shrugged, and took her own sip. It wasn't half bad, but a little too much cherry taste for her liking.

Cosette glanced back at the boys way again, and August noticed. Cracking a smile, he said "Why don't you go over there?" She was about to protest, but he got up and whisked her away with a grab of her arm before she could. They both approached him, and Cosette spoke first before he could. "Hey, mind if we join you?" She asked, before quicly adding in "My name's Cosette, that's August."

Waiting for her drink she noticed the dirty blonde haired guy talking to the southern bartender. She didn't have much of an accent unlike that girl. If anything her and Kane had northern accents. They were both from Iowa, so it made sense. The longer sounds o's. She heard the guy order a simple beer and a black cat. He must be here with someone too, unless he drinks two beverages at once. If he did, she wasn't one to judge. Being around other normal humans brought a sense of calm to her. There weren't many times they simply hung it up and spent a night out, so she savored the moment. The catchy pop music in the background and the bright lights of the dance floor were enticing.

Jen always found it funny that among other people their lives seemed so boring. When talking to Jen and Kane a normal day would be a near death experience with a demon. Jen always told people she was a student, and Kane passed off as a musician. Even though Kane didn't sing often, his guitar skills earned him some praise. Jennette's thoughts were broken when she heard the attractive guy next to her speak.
"Also, put the cute brunettes drinks on it too." he spoke with a killer grin. He was defiantly a charmer. The guy gave her a wink as he walked away with the two drinks. He did have gorgeous eyes...and everything. Shame she had to leave once again tomorrow. Maybe one day she would return to hopefully see that guy again. She had the drinks in hand as she began walking over to where Kane was, noticing the guy was going in the same relative direction.

Kane was smiling at the cute girl that sat on the sofas. The girls smile was infectious it seemed. He wanted to talk to the girl a bit, but a guy about an inch shorter than him came by. Damn was she taken? It didn't really look like it judging on the way the two interacted, but one could never be too careful. Kane caught the girls eye for a moment before the shaggy blonde haired guy seemed to say something to prompt the girl to walk over to the table.
"Hey, mind if we join you?" the girl asked him with the other guy at her side.
"My name's Cosette, that's August." she added in. So Cosette was the name. He had to admit the name was rather unique and had a flare of mystery to it.
"I'm Kane. Nice to meet you guys" he smiled back at the two of them, gesturing them to sit at the other two chairs at the table.
Jen came over to the table placing the summer shandy in front of Kane. She smiled at the blonde guy and waved slightly at the brunette. Of course he was taken. All the good looking ones are.
"This is Jen, my terribly smart mouthed friend" Kane introduced her. She took a seat next to Kane and crossed her legs. The leather hugged her legs rather tightly, but she wouldn't have it any other way.
"Shut up Kane" she said before sticking her tongue out and flicking his ear.
"Thanks for the drink hotstuff" she grinned at the blonde guy.
"They'll be joining us tonight Jen, try not to scare them away. That's Cosette and her boyfriend I presume is August" he told his friend.
"If anyone will scare them away, it'll be you, you big eared bozo" she said before licking a bit of salt from the glass and tacking a sip.

Both August and Cosette slipped into the chairs opposite of the two. Cosette was a little staggered that the girl August had been hitting on before, from what she could tell, seemed to be with the guy who just introduced himself as Kane. Well that kind of sucks. For both of the demons. August interjected when Cosette opened her mouth, "Nice to meet you too Kane, and your pretty friend." Cosette rolled her eyes at that oh-so-August-saying. Rolling her eyes was a pretty uncomfortable thing to do with contacts. She didn't want them to shift away, so she glanced at August who looked back at her, obviously confused by her sudden glance. The evergreen coloured things covering her iris must not have shifted, or else August would have said something. She was good. Even if she wasn’t, it might be too dark of an environment to tell right away. August just turned his attention back to Jen.

Cosette gave a small wave back to the girl, as she took a sip of her drink once more. She chuckled as she did, when she heard Jen say "Thanks for the drunks hotstuff." but soon after, she almost chocked back on the alcoholic drink as she heard Kane's next comment about ‘her boyfriend August’. Putting her drink down, she coughed and shook her head. "Oh my god, no, no August is not my boyfriend. That's a horrid thought." She laughed, almost nervously. August chuckled, continuing on with "Well, It's not as horrid as she makes it sound." Before patting Cosette's back, continuing on. "We've known each other since I was seven. She was five. Childhood friends is all, pretty much siblings." Cosette seemed to catch her breath again, and laughed, adding on saying, "What he said." Cosette didn't get embarrassed a lot, but right now, she kind of was. It wasn’t the first time they had bee accused of being a couple, their parents constantly thought they were doing it behind their backs. But in all honesty, it would just seem wrong if anything happened between them. Only friendly chemistry sparked between the two. There had never even had been a thought that occurred between the two for romantic feelings to occur.

“Anyways,” August continued on, “What’s your guy’s story? I hope you two aren’t dating, or me buying Jen’s drinks would be rather awkward, to say the least. And the fact she just called me hot stuff.” He smiled, leaning back a bit more comfortably, before he chirped in once more, “Also, Kane’s totally Cosette’s type, so it would make her pretty upset if you two were a thing.” Cosette smacked August’s arm lightly, giving him a disapproving look. “Sorry for him, he thinks it’s okay to say whatever he pleases. It's bad enough I have to share a hotel room with him.” Cosette smiled at both of their ways. Yeah. No wonder Cosette and August weren’t dating.

August studied the two. They obviously weren't from New York. People who were born from New York always seemed painfully obvious to the fact. The two also seemed different from each other in some ways, mainly he could tell by the difference in dress. Kane seemed more laid back, ready to go. Jen seemed more bad ass, like someone who would kick your ass if you pissed her off in any which sort of way. She didn't look like she was always trying to start a fight, so that was good. The one thing August didn't approve of were ass holes who just lived to piss people off and to fight. She just simply seemed like a person you wouldn't want to piss off. He was fine with that.

He grew up with that. Well, with his family. Not Cosette. Cosette was the least scary person he knew.

It was a good thing for Cosette to seem like that in situations like this. If there happened to be any demon hunters around, they wouldn't even glance in the girls direction, especially if she was smiling. She didn't look strong, she didn't look any different, she just looked sweet, and kind. She was. This, even a good thing in the public eye, was a horrible thing to the demon eye. They found her weak, but that was untrue. Cosette was one of the most mentally, and physically, strongest people he knew. She just didn't show it.

Things were playing out perfectly this night. With the repetitive music in the back of their conversation, everything was very entertaining. Kane's eyes were constantly averting with each new person that joined the club. He was always on edge, drinking was the only way to get him lighten up - somewhat. Jen kicked him under the table in hopes he would get the message to relax. He kicked her back before they both looked at what looked like couple across the table. The guy across from them caught Jen's interest like no one before. There was something about him she just liked. Tonight she was playing the shameless flirt, and was able to get away with some of her normal humor.

Jen's drink was fruity, the way she liked it. Kane's beer was just plain ol' refreshing. Cosette was a pretty girl, Jen knew she was right up Kane's alley. Kane knew that as well. Both people sitting across of them seemed to be both their types. Both Kane and Jen looked at Cosette when she coughed on her drink before she began speaking. The girl quickly denied Kane's allegation of being August's girlfriend. August chuckled from beside the girl. "Well, It's not as horrid as she makes it sound." he grinned, backing himself up. The first thought to run through Jen's head was 'it's definitely not that horrid'. August explained their relationship, and Kane was surprised at how similar it was to his and Jen's relationship. Kane was relieved to say the least, that the pretty girl in front of him wasn't taken. He found the girl adorable. She just seemed very innocent in his eyes. Like something untouched in the darkness of the world.

Jen noticed August seemed to be more of the socialite than his friend. Kane and herself were equals when it came to conversing with others. Kane was more of a natural at it however. August continued on, asking them about their story, also asking if Kane and Jen were dating. Kane was the first to shake his head.
"I would rather date a two headed slug then spend a romantic night with Jen. She's terrible. I really don't know how we've been friends for this long" Kane joked, making Jen smack him upside the head.
"What he meant to say was that we're childhood friends as well. We're here in New York for the day before we'll be driving out to god knows where. Don't worry, Kane and I will never be a thing" Jen elaborated, Kane nodded along. Kane was secretly happy at August's comment about him being Cosette's type. It worked out perfectly, because she was his type as well.
"I have to share a room with this diva as well, I understand your pain. All I get is hurtful jabs the entire trip" Kane said to Cosette with a grin, winking at her. Jen took a long sip of her drink before cracking her neck.
"At the shitty hotel we're staying at I have to bare being in his presence. God I hate our hotel. All the nice ones were booked" Jen complained before stealing a sip of Kane's beverage. It wasn't to her liking, so she put it back. Kane didn't really stop admiring the girl in front of him, but he did try to make it less obvious. If only he weren't a hunter, and his life was simple.

Jen took a look over the people. Both of them were dressed a bit more formal than the place called for, but she didn't mind at all. That guy looked damn good in a suit. Cosette's dress wasn't something Jennette would personally wear, but she liked it on the girl. Jennette wasn't one to often wear dresses. They felt very feminine and unpractical. At least in leather pants she could move. Hunters live their life off of practicality.
"So where you guys from? If you were New Yorkers you would have the terrible accent" Jennette asked with a grin, tucking a stray hair behind her ear.

Cosette still felt unusually uncomfortable with her wardrobe attire. She was actually used to dressing in rather more... fancy clothes. As was August. To be truthful, it was the only type of attire they had. It was a demon thing, dress with class to balance out the evil soul. Made sense. Kind of. It was also a training method, in some ways. If you could fight in heels and uncomfortable loafers, well you could get anywhere. They were taught that no matter the situation, attire, or person, that you can and you will deal with whatever threats comes in your way at the highest strength possible. It was easier if you where a male like August however. Fighting in heels was not ideal. But, if need be, they do make a hell of a weapon. Not like Cosette would know, she’d never really fought a person in her life, other than in training.

Moving away from the thoughts to her head, and back to reality, Cosette offered a smile, when she heard that the two were not dating. After sitting there with them for a mere manner of ten seconds, she had kind of figured it out for herself however. Laughing, she chirped in saying “Jen must be better than a two headed slug.” It was true. She knew a two headed demon, and he, well, they, were an asshole. A double asshole at that. Besides, dating a two headed person is off putting, you constantly would feel like you where cheating on the same person. It seemed dreadful.

August gave grin in Jen’s direction, saying “Well, I myself would much prefer Jen over some two headed slug. Also, you’re hotel room can’t be that shitty if you’re in it.” Well, in Cosettes mind, it was official, the two, where defiantly 100% each others type. Cosette turned her undivided attention back to the cute Kane, still giving a smile. Her eyes danced with a bit of the curiosity and wonder they always held, when she asked “So why are you guys travelling? If I could offer up any advice, go to a historical place. New Orleans or Charleston would be a cool one if you stayed in America, but the real places to visit are oversea’s, Scotland, Spain, Italy. All those places.”

Cosette may or may not have wanted to travel. It had been a dream for her, but currently travel plans where on hold until everything settled. August promised her that soon, they would go some place different. New York just didn’t hold the girls attention span for long, especially when shut up in a baring hotel room with a 70’s carpet stained from god knows what.

Glancing back Jens way at her question, she froze up a bit. Well that was one thing they never worked out, where to tell people they actually came from. August was quick to answer, casually at that. He was always so damn good at that. “We’re from Colorado. We came on a mini vacation just to get away from school for a bit, I’m an English major, and Cosette here studies piano.” Cosette glanced up at the boy, and gave a small smile. ”Smart thinking. She thought to herself, before glancing at the two again. “Colorado isn’t exactly an ideal place for me, only so much you can do there. Auggie also hates the cold winters.” August groaned, sipping down his beer which was almost at the last drop. “Well, saying my nickname in public, are you Cosy?” He smirked. She hated her nickname more then he hated his.

Shrugging that off, he asked “So, what is it that you guys do?” before speaking once more before they answered. “Wait! Let me guess.” Glancing at Kane, he studied him a second, before saying. “You could be a student In between jobs maybe. Musician, probably?” He stated, then continued back to look at Jen, studying her with his eye more in detail. “Now you, bad ass. I don’t see someone with a teaching degree wearing leather pants, so it’s got to be something cool. You look like you could take care of yourself as well. Maybe a personal fitness coach? Pilates instructor with a kick? Or better yet, a gang member.” He smirked, his eyes questioning.

Jen smiled at Cosette.
"See Kane, I like this girl. Unlike you she's a tad nicer" Jen smiled, using her finger to get the remaining pieces of salt off the side of her glass. She wondered if it would be appropriate for her to order another drink. It was their last night here after all. Cosette seemed like an adorable girl next door type. The girl had an innocent flare to her. Kane liked that. She seemed like someone untouched from the darkness of the world.

"How sweet. You'll have to see the room if you don't believe me. Even my wonderful presence can't fix that place" Jen grinned to August.
Behind the two people she saw a guy and girl hitting it off on the dance floor. She quickly gagged. The two could not dance for the life of them. Jen could dance, her mother insisted she learned how seeing she was already unladylike as it was. Kane on the other hand, did not dance. Jen had dragged him to the dance floor a few times in their past, and it was another sad sight.

Jen's mother taught her to do many things before she died. From dancing to sewing, her Mother wanted to embellish the good ol' American house wife traditions into the girl. Though her Mother wasn't exactly totally innocent. Her Mother was a hunter as well - on a much lower key than her father, but still a hunter.

Kane grinned over to Cosette.
"You don't know her that well. She's a handful. Always getting into trouble this one" Kane said, patting Jen's head obnoxiously.
"Don't even get me started on you Kane. You aren't exactly a bucket of sunshine" she huffed, sticking her tongue out before taking the finishing sip of her margarita.
So why are you guys travelling? If I could offer up any advice, go to a historical place. New Orleans or Charleston would be a cool one if you stayed in America, but the real places to visit are oversea’s, Scotland, Spain, Italy. All those places.” Cosette asked, as well as offered a tad of advice.
"Do you travel much? You seem to know your stuff. We don't actually know where we want to head off to next. We're winging this trip" Kane smiled over to the brown haired girl.
"I wouldn't mind going over seas, I've always wanted to go to Scotland actually. I heard it's lovely" she told the girl. It was true they didn't know where to head next. Possibly up to Maine, then make their way into Canada, or they could go down into Pennsylvania. Either way, they would still be running. Running from what? Well from the demon that killed their family. The demon seemed to have a fascination with their bloodlines, and they didn't feel prepared to take one on of that power. They both wished they could hang up the lifestyle they had, to be normal folk. God knows they were in too deep now however.
“We’re from Colorado. We came on a mini vacation just to get away from school for a bit, I’m an English major, and Cosette here studies piano.” August replied to Jen's earlier question. The piano bit seemed to peak Kane's interest. Cosette looked like a piano player. Perhaps it was the formal attire. Whatever it was, Kane liked it. Neither of the two hunters were able to answer the question before August began guessing their occupations. They both found it entertaining. No one would guess they hunted demons for a living, so the appearance of being normal was always appreciated. Kane raised his eyebrows impressed. He did play guitar, and normally a traveling musician was the alias he used.
“Now you, bad ass. I don’t see someone with a teaching degree wearing leather pants, so it’s got to be something cool. You look like you could take care of yourself as well. Maybe a personal fitness coach? Pilates instructor with a kick? Or better yet, a gang member.” August finished with a smirk.

Kane scoffed.
"I'm the bad ass one, not her. She's too afraid to break a nail. You seemed to hit those pretty close on the nail though, props man. I'm a traveling guitar musician" Kane said, earning a disproving look from Jen.
"I'm much cooler than he is, don't listen to the dude. You got me. I'm actually a mobster for a notorious gang in town. I help smuggle drugs and rough up competing gangs" Jennette joked before actually answering the question.
"Actually my life isn't that exciting. I'm a culinary student" she shrugged before looking over to Kane.
"She has a to die for cherry pie. We need to find a better motel so you can cook again" Kane said to her. Jen laughed slightly.
"English major, huh? What's your favorite book? I may not be an English major, but I do have a good collection" Jen smiled. Kane was more enamored with the girl however. A guitar player and a piano player at the table, along with an English major and fake culinary student.
"Where are you guys planning to go after this?" Kane couldn't help but asking the girl.

Cosette gave a laugh at Jens comment, smiling back at the girl. Yeah, she wasn’t all that bad. Sure, she seemed like the jokes might be taken as mean, but from her, they just seemed like herself. It was refreshing to Cosette, and obviously to August as well. She was someone that could take care of herself, and was not afraid to show that fact off. Brave was probably the best word to describe it.

Both August and Cosette finished off the last drops of their drinks. August, putting his cup down, smirked at Jens next comment and replied “Well I don’t believe you, so maybe I will go see the room.” Cosette made mental gagging noises in her mind, before shifting her attention back to Kane once more as he explained about what a Handful Jen is. “Wow, you just pretty much explained August back to me.” She laughed, before August gave his signature ‘hurt look’ “Hey, you get into trouble too. Mostly by accident, but still.” He turned to look his green eyes back at the two, stating “She used a fake I.D to get in here. Silly twenty year old.” He smirked before Cosette smacked his arm, “Hey keep it down Auggie. I’m twenty-one in like, three days, it’s not bad.” She huffed, glancing around to see if anyone of the workers heard. She was safe.

“Do you travel much? You seem to know your stuff. We don't actually know where we want to head off to next. We're winging this trip" Kane asked, bringing Cosettes attention back to the surface. Shaking her head, she said “No. I want to travel however, it’s just that I really haven’t been in a position to do it until late. But winging a trip, that must be fun.” She smiled, before averting her evergreen eyes to Jen as she continued to speak, ”Yeah! Scotland’s just got such beautiful nature and some cool old historical sites. I mean, if you’re into bars and stuff also, there’s one or two up every block.” She stated, before pushing her hair back behind her ear.

"I'm the bad ass one, not her. She's too afraid to break a nail. You seemed to hit those pretty close on the nail though, props man. I'm a travelling guitar musician" Kane replied almost effortlessly to August banter. Jen was quick to interject however, stating that she was the more cool one, and how, in fact, she was a mob member! Cosette, laughed, while August replied when she said she was a culinary student. “Well, I can tell you I wouldn’t have guessed that.” With a small chuckle, Cosette smiled at her, adding on, “I think that’s awesome! I can’t cook for my life. I wish I could, it would make it easier to sort out what has strawberries in it and what doesn’t. You would be surprised at what does. Allergies be damned.” She mentioned, before replying back to Kane’s ‘occupation’ “Well, I would love to hear you play guitar before you leave, if you could find one around. I’m sure you play it very well.” She smiled, before answering his next question, giving a small side glance to August. “I’m not really sure where. Some place probably big and populated. We’re probably leaving pretty soon I guess as well.” August just nodded his head in agreement.

In all honesty, it was August tell-tale when they were to go, and to where. She knew just simply that he wouldn't be able to spend long in one place, a week or two max. She also knew that it would have to be an almost overpopulated area where he could duck around corners, unable to find. A place not close to home, so that others wouldn't know he ran away. It was a check list that surprisingly a lot of places didn't cover. New York just was the first one that did to pop into their heads. Cosette had wanted to head up to New Orleans possibly, but that city had a past with Demons and hunters that was always mistaken for witchcraft. It would be too easy to run into other demon, or hunters there. Hell, you could practically call is their capital city if you had too.

Getting up from the chair, Cosette said, “I think I’m going to go get another round of drinks, what do you guys want?” She smiled, August immediately replying back “A beer. The country bartender will know what one.” Cosette gave him a look, before saying “Yeah, of course she will.”

Kane felt the girls laughter was contagious, and made him want to laugh as well. What could he say? She had a contagious personality. Kane looked over at August with wide eyes at his comment before giving Jen a fearful look. Internally he felt like dying. He imagined seeing Jen having any sort of relations would make him want to commit suicide. Demons be damned. The both of them had relationships in the past. Nothing terribly serious. Being hunters one was cautious about getting close to others. If you really cared for a person, you would stay out of their life to prevent harm from coming to them.
"Fake I.D's are cool. It has a strange rebellious feel to them. I had one for awhile, I recently turned 21, so now my I.D is painfully real" Jen said to Cosette with a grin. At least the girl wasn't a total saint.

Kane finished his drink around the same time the others did. Jen had finished awhile ago. He fiddled with the empty glass beer bottle in his hands while listening to Cosette speak about her wishes to travel. If Jen and Kane agreed about something, it would be that they were tired of traveling. Neither of them had a home to return to, or a loving family to call anymore. It was ripped away from them, leaving them both broken in their own way. The only upside of the situation was that the friends had one another to trust. They both trusted one another with their life.
Jen nodded at Cosette. Those were the same things she heard about the country, and she was excited to hopefully one day visit it.

Kane and Jen both laughed together at August's comment about him never guessing her occupation. She grinned widely at Cosette's comments. So the girl was allergic to strawberries? What a terrible thing to be allergic to.
"I could always show you around a kitchen if you ever want. It's all about attention to detail. Nothing to praise" Jen offered with a shrug before Cosette continued.
“Well, I would love to hear you play guitar before you leave, if you could find one around. I’m sure you play it very well.” Cosette grinned with that addictive smile of hers.
"My guitar is back at our motel, I could play if you guys want to ride with us back later. I'm sure you're wonderful at playing the piano as well" Kane offered with a smile plastered on his face as well, one caused by the girl sitting across from him. Jen gave him a cautious look and he seemed to notice. He patted her leg in assurance. Usually if anyone were to worry, it would be him. Both of them nodded at the two of them about their traveling plans. Seems they didn't have any specific destination either.
"Hell, you guys are like the more attractive and talented versions of us" Jen teased, running her finger along the rim of the glass for any grains of salt she may have missed.
"Speak for yourself Jen. But it is true, Cosette is much prettier than you" Kane agreed, earning a frown from Jen.
“I think I’m going to go get another round of drinks, what do you guys want?” Cosette offered kindly. Jen took the offer immediately after August told her that bartender would remember what beer he wanted. If she were that bartender she would remember as well.
"Can you get me a cherry hooker please?" Jen asked with a smile.
"If it isn't to much trouble, I'll just have another summer shandy" Kane added, looking down at his empty bottle.
The nightclub was beginning to pick up. More faces past through the door, the dance floor was beginning to crowd, the seats around them were beginning to fill. The air of the club was slowly getting hotter. Jen was beginning to wish she was back at the motel in the stiff bed curled up with a good book. Though the man in front of her made the nightclub more bearable.

Cosette nodded at each of their orders, before scampering off towards the bar area. It was only a matter of second because August said “I’m going to go help her carry those,” before getting up and leaving the two for a few short minutes. August could tell something was up, Cosette had kept biting her lip and giving him glances everyone and awhile. Probably to the two, it just seemed normal like a thing she does, but to August, he knew it meant something a bit different.

Meeting her up at the bar, the two sat down in unison, Cosette giving him a funny glance as she realized he had followed her. “What?” She questioned him before waving her hand to the country bartender so she would come over. Cosette gave a kind smile, before rattling of her list. “Could I please get a summer shandy, a cherry hooker, a brandy Alexander, and whatever beer he got last time?” Her voice was kind, but still straight to the point. The red head behind the bar nodded, saying ”Sure thing.” Before inevitably turning away.

Cosette then turn her attention to August, who had an odd look in his eyes. “Cosette, why are you so nervous?” He asked her, being straight to the point. Cosette gave a small laugh, exclaiming, “What!” which got her one of those rare serious looks August gave. “Cosy, I know you better then myself. You almost bit your lip off back there, what’s up?” Well, he got her there. Letting out a small huff, she looked away from him as she spoke quietly. “I don’t know. I just have a feeling something bad’s about to happen. As to what, I have no idea. I think I’m just going crazy with stress.” She admitted giving a side glance to him. He just nodded.

Cosette got this feeling from time to time, and the most horrible thing was that she was often right when she did. It was either something bad was going to happen, or she was getting sick with a cold. She barely ever got sick. All she knew at this moment was that by tomorrow, it probably wasn’t safe to stay in New York anymore. From the looks of it, August thought the same. There were a couple of things screaming in her head, warning bells and rings. Some of the possible scenarios she came up with that almost seemed bound to happen was that they were going to run into a demon, a demon who knew the two ran away, or worse, demon hunters. She didn’t want to find out what scenario it would be. Maybe Kane and Jen where demon hunters - but that would seem impossible. They would have spotted that August and Cosette were Demons right away. Then again, they weren’t exactly in any which shape or form like demons. Jen and Kane didn’t seem all business like either, which most hunters where. It was a silly thought, so Cosy let it pass by.

August lifted a hand up to her forehead, checking her temperature. It seemed like he was really wishes that she was getting sick. “You’re still hot.” He murmured under his breath, before lifting his hand down. Cosette smiled, saying “I’m always hot.” It was true, actually. Cosette ran a temperature in between 104 to 105 fahrenheight due to her fire demon nature. If she was getting a cold, her temperature would have dropped to around normal body temperature of humans. It was kind of mixed up and confusing, but she learned to deal with it. August chuckled, asking her “So what is it you want to do?”

Cosette really didn’t have an answer for that.

“I don’t know” She replied, looking him in the eyes. “I mean, I could just feel nervous or this way because I feel like we may be lying to them. Which, in case you haven’t noticed, we kind of are.” She got a signature eye roll from August in return, “Yeah, we are, but what are we supposed to say? Besides, they are leaving tomorrow; I don’t think we will end up running into them again.”

He was right. He was always right.

The bartender passed them their drinks, and Cosy took hers and Jens, while August took his and Kane’s. They stayed there for a second more, August saying in attempts to ease her nerves, “We’ll leave after this drink okay? If you want.” Cosette shook her head. “No It’s fine. You really like Jen, I can tell. I like Kane too, so just do what you want, okay?” August just nodded his head, before the two went back at the table, setting the drinks down in front of the designated person, Cosette saying “There you guys go.” Cosette and August took a drink of their beverages in almost unison as they sat down.

She still felt the nagging feeling in the back of her mind, but her face didn’t show any tell tale. She was good at that.

Jennette and Kane were left alone at the table when August and Cosette left to get drinks.
"What do you think?" Kane asked Jen. She averted her eyes away from the backside of August.
"He has a better butt than you, that much I know for sure" she teased, putting her elbows onto the table and setting her head down onto her hands.
"You sound like a star struck school girl" Kane laughed. Jennette gave him an annoyed look before returning to her normal soft sighed expression.
"First hot guy I've seen in the last 3 weeks. Give me a break. You aren't exactly acting like you're disinterested either lover boy" she retorted. Kane put his empty beer bottle into the middle of the table, along with the rest of the empty drinks. He put the short drinks together, and the beer bottles together. He didn't like the table looking disorderly.
"I got your point. But remember -" he was cut off by Jen rolling her eyes.
"Don't get attached or think anything of it. You may be older than be, but we've been doing this for a long time. I know the rules" Jen quickly said before wishing she had a drink to swig her words back with. "Don't you ever wish to stop what we're doing, and just live a normal life. I could actually become a culinary student. You could pursue music" she thought aloud. Kane gave her a weary glare.
"You know what I wish. Stop sounding like a broken down regretful sap" Kane frowned at her.
"Hell, I sound like a sap? You know damn well we're both far from alright" Jen spat back at him. Being together on the road for such a long time makes them weary of each other at times. They love one another unconditionally, but they did need space.

Kane didn't like lying to the people they meet. If only life were easy, and their profession wasn't anything out of the normal, or if demons simply didn't exist. It made him often wonder what other supernatural creatures walked the earth as well. They have never encountered anything like vampires or werewolves. Honestly neither of them would be surprised if they did.

"We're fine Jen. Drinking seemed to loosen your sap strings" Kane sighed. Jen was getting slightly fed up, so she shut her mouth about the subject.
"Where are we going next? We have multiple options, we just need to pick one" Jen changed the subject, asking a more serious question to her friend.
"Head to Maine, run across the border into Canada. Go west until we hit the other end of Canada, and come back down into Washington" he planned effortlessly.
"That's a lot of driving, just to get to Washington"
"We need to avoid the areas we know. Maybe the demon will lose our trail this way" he explained to his friend before she nodded.
"I'll start working on routes and hotels when we get to the motel. Why do I have a feeling I won't be getting much sleep tonight" she mumbled before she saw Cosette and August heading back to the table together. Jen's distressed expression faded into a content smile quickly, and Kane raised his furrowed eyebrows. Their drinks were soon placed in front of them and they thanked the two in unison.
“There you guys go.” Cosette said while her and August sat in their seats with their own drinks in hand. They were all wordless for a few moments as they were taking the first sips of their drinks. Jen raised a brow. The drink was a lot better than she had remembered.
"We can pay our part of the tab. Drinks add up" Kane offered with a grin after his refreshing sip of his summer shandy. Jen held up her drink a proposed a friendly toast
"To New York night clubs and fake I.Ds" she smiled, glancing over to Cosette with a small wink.

August grinned brightly, raising his drink up in cheers. Cosette did the same while laughing, simultaneously shh’ing the girl on the Fake I.D part. “And to new friends and new beginnings.” August adding in before taking a large gulp of the beer. Cosette felt her nerves settle a little bit at his new beginnings remark, and she gave August a tiny thankful smile. Setting his glass down, he continued on speaking. “So, how about after this drink we head back to your so called shitty hotel as Kane offered?” He smirked. Cosette gave him a disapproving look. “Sorry, August has a tendency to invite himself to places.” She muttered, in a shunning voice towards her best friend.

That was actually, oddly, how to two met. Her mother and father threw the little five year old Cosette a fifth birthday party. The seven year old August just kind of wandered in, a fluffy teddy bear with a gold ribbon attached in hand. Cosette had absolutely no idea who the slightly older kid was. The first words he ever spoke to her were “Hi! I’m August, and I see you around at school. You seem really normal, like me. I got you this teddy bear because it’s gold like your eyes.” Cosette was five, so she was pretty confused. Hell, she would be confused now, especially as she had no idea how he had even for her house. But for whatever reason, the two just became completely inseparable.

Cosette still kept the bear. It was embarrassing, but she couldn’t care less.

August broke through her thoughts as he slapped her on the back, not very hard. “Oh come on! Your little boyfriend offered. You’ll get to hear him play guitar.” Cosette laughed, knowing August, who had already finished about half his beer, was a tad drunk. He was a bit of a light weight, which was surprising. You would imagine Cosette would be, but she wasn’t in the slightest, probably because she had the stronger body. One couldn’t tell that by looking between the two, but it was obvious to any demon. Augusts’ powers focused with the mind, he was very smart, even if he didn’t lead it on. Cosette’s power coursed through her entire being, and it strengthened her own self. She was probably one of the strongest growing demons in her little clan. A lot for people expected a lot out of her, many had their eye on her to do great things for them. But what was great to them, was destruction for her.

At least there was one bright side to being so strong, she had good reflexes and could defend herself easily with zero guilt about doing so.

Jen smiled at the comment August added into the toast and they all clanked their glasses together before taking a sip. A new beginning was something they all wanted. It was so strange to see someone with similar goals as Jen and Kane, but it was reassuring in the same way. It made them feel normal. The liquor helped Jen's aching arm that was beginning to send shock waves of pain with each movement she made. It was a reminder she needed to buy more painkillers before they went onto the road once more.
“So, how about after this drink we head back to your so called shitty hotel as Kane offered?” August smirked. Kane and Jen looked at each other before slowly nodding. Kane mentally went over the motel room, thinking if anything compromising or strange was left out. It was all in a suitcase and trunk of the truck- so they had nothing to worry about.
“Sorry, August has a tendency to invite himself to places.” Cosette mumbled. Jen waved a hand at the girl.
"It's perfectly fine. It will be good to have some company before we leave tomorrow, right Kane?" she smiled. Kane simply nodded.
"I'm glad we met such cool people tonight. We'll have to get back together sometime" he grinned. Though that was near impossible. Jen and Kane went through phones often. They had simple slide phones that were paid based of cash. Their numbers often changed, so connections were never permanent.

Cosette looked a bit out of it, and August gave her a light slap on the back.
"Oh come on! Your little boyfriend offered. You’ll get to hear him play guitar.” August nudged, making Cosette laugh. Kane gave Cosette an awkward look at the word boyfriend, but didn't pay much mind to it.

The four of them had mindless chatter over the last drops of their drink before deciding it was a good time to leave the hot nightclub. Kane went up and paid their half of the tab, tipping the waitress as well. Jen kept her purse close to her as she guided them to the black truck once the tab was completely payed.
"You guys can head in the backseat. As much as I'm loving you, shotgun is always my place" she grinned, opening the doors for the two and getting in the front seat as well before Kane jumped in the drivers side. It was a nice truck. Kane's father had good taste. The inside was tan leather and the dashboard of the car was very modern. It was a good car for the two hunters. Luxurious enough for the days they spent waiting in the car, and durable enough for off road trips.

Starting the car Shake Me by Cinderella began playing off the CD they had inserted. Jen quickly turned up the music and began singing along. Kane did as well. They had a love for rock and hairbands. A collection of CDs were in the pocket in front of Jen. Music ranging from Metallica to Ratt lied there.
"Hope you guys don't mind. I can't stand the repetitive pop music on the radio. It's okay for dancing, but it doesn't have the same effect as this music does" Jen said, looking back at the two before she began singing along once more with Kane.

Two Cinderella songs later they arrived at the crappy exterior of their motel. Jennette rummaged around her purse, briefly touching the demon blade she carried everywhere in search of the key. When she finally found it they left the car, locked and in the parking lot in front of their door.
"When you see this place, you'll freak. It is terrible" Jen said while unlocking the door and walking in herself to the simple motel room. Under the carpet near the door was where the demon circle laid hidden, trapping any demons to dare enter it. Kane went in after her, going by his bed to grab his guitar.
"Aha, here it is. I wish we had a piano so you could demonstrate your skills as well" Kane said mainly to Cosette, not bothering to look back at them, assuming they were already in the room.

Cosette sipped down the rest of her Alexander bourbon, partially regretting not getting bourbon on the rocks, straight up. That had always been her favourite, not some fruity sour thing like the black cat August had gotten her before. Cosette was more of a classic person. She often could have been described as an old soul- that or a 50 year old wild chilld duchess stuck in a twenty year olds body. Augusts on the other hand, was one hundred percent beer drinking fake Prince Charming. He wasn’t that deep.

Both August and Cosette shared, partly, sad glances at each other at Kane’s comment about them having to get back together one time. Cosette gave him an apologetic look, “Actually, we don’t have phones. The only way we’d probably ever see you again is if we run into each other along our travels.” Cosette and August were allowed cellphones, it wasn’t some odd demon taboo thing. It was just Cosette didn’t like technology all that much. She preferred getting written letters than text message. She preferred social interactions than phone calls. So much technology was taking the beauty out of an art form that was dying. August on the other hand got rid of his as they left, not even taking the small risk of someone tracking him. It was a smart move.

After all four had finished their drinks, August being the first to do so, left the bar, paying half their tab to Cosettes protest. She told Jen and Kane that, “We totally intruded on your night, we should have paid for it all.” August rolled his eyes, as both climbed into the back seat. Cosette rested her head on August shoulder, laughing along to the two singing in the front. August started to sing along as well, but he didn’t know the words and was just making a bunch of noises along to the tune, so she firmly planted her hand over his mouth, giggling as she said “Dude, you can’t sing. You don’t even know the song.” August chuckled, swatting her hand away from his mouth. “I know the song! Just not the words,” he stated firmly, before turning his attention to Jen who had spoken to the two in the back, asking if they minded. “Nah course not! We’re both into this stuff. We have a shared appreciation for Def Leppard above all, but Cosettes into more old music, Violent Femmes, The Smiths, Dexy Midnight Runners, all those Mom bands.” Cosette scoffed, saying “They're awesome, okay, defiantly not Mom bands. Add it up, Come on Eileen, those are classics.” She smiled, those being her last words before they arrived at the motel.

Cosette laughed along while August dragged her behind him as they went to the motel door. Yeah, Jen was right. It looked shitty. Wrapping her arms around the slightly stumbling August’s side, she let out on final laugh, before they both walked onto the door mat. She tried to walk further, but it was like an invisible wall, forced her back. She clutched her stomach, not knowing really what else to do. She had gone pale, and ceased from talking. August on the other hand, seemed to sober up right away, before quick thinking putting his hand onto Cosettes forehead. “Cosy, you’re burning up.” He said, his concerned voice showing. So that was the card he was going to play, they stopped because she had a sudden force of sickness over take her.

Not because there was an obvious devils trap right beneath their feet.

Well there was one truthful thing to August saying, she did suddenly feel very, very sick. Kane and Jen were demon hunters, and they had just been caught, but August was smart in not giving it up right away. She had no idea what his game plan was, but she followed along. The good thing was her high temperature, would just mask as a high fever. Most demon hunters didn’t know Pyrokenetic demons had high temperatures, mostly because if a hunter had ever touched a demon full contact, it would have been because they were dead and obviously cold. If a hunter had ever touched a demon while it was still alive, well the hunter would be dead shortly after.

All they were doing was stalling at this point, the only way they were going to get out was if they let them. August and Cosette ran away from the demons, partially because of this reason. She highly doubted that they would even listen to August or Cosette about it, the running away, or even if they did, they wouldn’t believe them. They were dead. That was all there was to it. She was going to share the same fate as her father, and all she got was an apologetic and concerned look from August.

She knew they should have just stayed in the hotel and watched a crappy movie.

Jen was happy that August listened to what she considered good music. Cosette however, not so much. Too slow and old for her pace. Jen's Mother listened to similar music as Cosette however, so she didn't hate the genre completely.
Kane had grabbed his ebony colored guitar out of the case that was on his bed and began tuning the strings. It had been a few days since he played. He would need to get back into the habit.
"There isn't any good channels on the T.V. I told you this motel sucked" Jen complained before turning around to see sandy haired August looking concerned at Cosette.
"Are you alright? Do you need water or anything?" Kane asked, noticing the same thing as well. He went through his things until he found a plastic bottle full of holy water. There were no cups in the motel, and he didn't really trust the tap.
Holy water wasn't as complicated as it seemed. You could make your own easily. Put a rosarie in water, say a few words, and bam - holy water. To humans drinking holy water was just like normal, to demons it burned.
He handed it to Cosette who looked to be rather sick.
"She alright? Maybe someone spiked her drink?" Kane worried. The last thing the two hunters needed was a girl sleepover because she had too much to drink. Jen gave the two guest suspicious looks when she found where they were standing.
"Don't stand there and admire the view, come sit down" she requested hesitantly. Jen gave Kane a weary glance. Something wasn't right. The minute Cosette entered that circle she looked like she'd come to a realization or had the stomach flu. Jen couldn't really determined which yet. Kane was getting suspicions as well.

Jen and Kane bother felt it was going to be a long night, and wished for one last drink.

Cosette groaned again, before taking the bottle Kane handed to her. it was bottled yes, but it was also opened at some point. That was a sign of holy water. Who the hell just drinks holy water and not regular water? Now that was a bit extreme. One way or another, the truth had to come out to the others, maybe this was it. August would be pissed, but then again August just simply wanted to protect his best friend. Cosette stood up properly, before opening up the cap and holding her hand out slightly. She poured the littlest drop on her pale skin, and all her accusation where proven correct. She yelped for a second, before muttering under her breath "Why does it always have to be holy water?" August just glanced of at Jen and Kane. To him, this seemed like a perfect moment to play the sarcastic card, so he did. Shrugging his shoulders, he yelled, "Surprise!" There was a bang on the wall next door as some disgruntled old lady yelled, "Shut up out there!"

Cosette gave him a dirty look, and August shut up.

August shifted a bit, so that Cosette was behind him. August had a tendency to do this, as he was more of a protector then he was a person looking to be protected; it was always this way. He offered help, but didn't take it. August glanced at Kane and Jen through the door, saying, "In all defense, you didn't exactly tell us you were hunters so don't be all pissed that we lied to you." Cosette elbowed his ribs, before popping her head from behind him, "Okay, would you guys at least hear us out? I mean if you come at us right now to kill us, I have some screwed up defense systems and I'll probably accidentally burn this place to the ground. Granted, It's not a nice motel, but it doesn't deserve to be ash." It was a valid point.

Both took in a deep air of breath, and August continued on with his unprepared speak quickly, the whole time just really not wanting to get stabbed. "So we sort of ran away. About a week ago Cosette came to me after her dads burial and wanted to go, like we both had planned but not really planned, so we just did. Cosette, if you haven't noticed, is probably the least demon like demon ever, as you got a wide open glimmer at what her personality really was at the bar, boring, and dull." Cosette interjected, yelling at him "August! Now's not the time to be joking around about my dullness!" He glanced down at her, knowing she was a hundred percent correct on that note. He continued on, "I on the other hand wanted to run away because I have a demon famous family who expected too much of me, as I basically didn't want to do shit, I just wanted to lead a normal life. We have to constantly keep moving, as someones after my ass probably this very moment." August tapped his fingers on his side, an obvious sign of his nervousness. His speech wasn't very well structured, more like hurried out word vomit.

Cosette, on the other hand, had gone completely blank. She probably did look like she was going to get very very sick, but this was more or less just half realization and half panic. What if one of these two had killed her dad? Sure, he wasn't the most warmest of demons, but he was her dad and he raised her. She avoided any sort of look or eye contact with the two hunters in front of her from that point. She had to remember. Hunter's were not friends. Even if August and herself mean them no harm, their soul purpose was to eradicate them from existence. They wouldn't care if they where nice, or non destructive. Cosette had a second wave of feeling about there soon-to-be-deaths. She half regretted running away, half regretted going to the bar. She guessed sooner or later along their travels, they would have run into a hunter. But not get stuck in a devils trap. All of this information coming to the surface was just to much, it made her head hurt.

Her hand also still bloody burned because of the holy water. So, that was cool too.

Jen instictively took out the demon blade she kept in her black purse, un sheathing it for effect. When the girl she once viewed as innocent yelped at the drop of holy water placed on her skin, it was as clear as day and night what those two were. Kane had set the guitar down and calmly stood beside Jen, taking the blade from her. Demons were a threat. He didn't really know why he bothered even hearing them out and not just killing them on sight. Jen and Kane both agreed there was something different about them.
"Surprise" August yelled, still seeming to keep his sense of humor in the tight spot the demons were in.
"A surprise for sure. The first cute guy I see in god knows how long is a demon" Jen frowned. Kane gave her a dirty look.
"Jen, drop it" he muttered, making the girl sigh.

August had put himself in front of Cosette in a protective like way.
"In all defense, you didn't exactly tell us you were hunters so don't be all pissed that we lied to you." August tried to rationalize, earning himself an elbow to the ribs from Cosette.
"Okay, would you guys at least hear us out? I mean if you come at us right now to kill us, I have some screwed up defense systems and I'll probably accidentally burn this place to the ground. Granted, It's not a nice motel, but it doesn't deserve to be ash." Cosette said from behind him, showing her face. Jen wanted to just finish the job. Demons were enemies. Their life was based on killing them, yet here they were, listening and interacting with one. Kane had to admit this was the first time a demon just didn't outright attack them. Points to their case. Jen shifted the couch near the outside of the circle for a place to sit. It was a sort of interview. One with the stakes of life or death hanging in the balance. August began the speech.
"So we sort of ran away. About a week ago Cosette came to me after her dads burial and wanted to go, like we both had planned but not really planned, so we just did. Cosette, if you haven't noticed, is probably the least demon like demon ever, as you got a wide open glimmer at what her personality really was at the bar, boring, and dull." August said before getting yelled at by the girl. They were entertaining to watch.
"I on the other hand wanted to run away because I have a demon famous family who expected too much of me, as I basically didn't want to do shit, I just wanted to lead a normal life. We have to constantly keep moving, as someones after my ass probably this very moment." he ended as her nervously tapped his side.
"At least they didn't lie about everything" Kane said, looking over to Jen.
"They're demons Kane. Do you forget they lie?" Jen retorted, her eyes not leaving the two demons trapped in the circle.
"Something tells me they aren't lying" he sighed, taking a long look at the nervous demon protecting what he thought was an innocent girl. Kane's gut was normally right. Jen huffed, she always respected his decisions even when they weren't the brightest.
"What do we do then? Do we just let them out and have them ride along on our merry endeavors?" Jen argued.
"Possibly. We'll see" Kane simply stated, making Jen raise her hands into the air. She looked at the demons with a piercing gaze.
"What did you do to him" she asked, concerned that they had done something to Kane's mind.
"They did nothing Jen, that's the issue. We kill the bad guys - they aren't bad" Kane told her, giving her a serious glare. Jen cracked her neck from side to side before sitting up from the couch.
"How many people have you killed, and you are sure you weren't sent here by any demon ring leader?" she asked them. Jen wanted to believe they were so called "good", but her life had never been that easy.
What if these were henchmen to come finish Jen and Kane? Their home had been destroyed, wasn't that enough?
"You're either a terribly good liar, or actually telling us the truth" Jen hissed with her mind flooding with thoughts. From the couch they had pulled up Kane sat seemingly calm.
"If we were to say, not send you to hell, what would you do when you got out of that circle. You know better than I we can't just let you wander back out into the world" Kane questioned them as well.

Cosette still kept completely silent.

August, on the other hand, took offense to Jens accusations of them doing something to Kane. "No, of course we didn't, I just wanted to take Cosette out because she hated being cooped up in a Hotel room, you just happen to show up." Cosette touched his arm lightly, saying quietly to him, "August, lower your voice, you don't need to yell." He ignored her, before continuing on in his slightly raised, protective voice, "Kane's right. We aren't bad, that's why we ran away. They expected too much of us that they where never going to get, both of us where trapped. You can be born a demon, but that doesn't mean you have to act like one." Boy, wasn't that the saying of a century.

Demons themselves weren't exactly all bad. You have a couple who, yes, are not the nicest souls. They actually lived quite peacefully before hunters did start showing up. But that's when they became defensive, like mothers bears protecting their cubs. Most people that demons had killed where just hunters, not innocent people. People had this whole big idea of demon being unholy, from hell, but in all honesty they just had some pretty fucked up genetics. Maybe they were descended from hell originally, but even now they had all been born from the earth, and lived here their whole lives. It wasn't too uncommon to hear of someone running away from the other demons, just as August and Cosette had. Unfortunately, you would never end up hearing about or from them again, either because they where dead or smart enough to eradicate themselves from any radar.

Jen gave an accusing question once more, as she asked them "How many people have you killed, and you are sure you weren't sent here by any demon ring leader?" Well, she knew a way to completely set August off. You could accuse him of being a hell demon, because technically he was, you could accuse him of being bad, because that was the stereotype, but accuse him of killing someone, well, that was a tiny bit harsh. "How many people have I killed?" he exclaimed, a ticked off look on his face. "None! Why the hell do you think we left? We don't want to kill anyone, and we sure as hell aren't being tagged by some demon ring leader, which for your information, does not exist." Another rattling bang came from next door once more. "Hey, shut the hell up!" said the crotchety old woman again through the wall.

Something Kane said about not being able to wander the world again caught her attention, and she looked up for the first time since August started speaking.

"Then just kill us." She said, her voice serious, as she made eye contact with Kane. "Better yet, just kill me. Not August, he's of no threat. But I sure as hell won't be held captive under hunter protection. I have been held under the eye of demons all my life, training, and being told what a pathetic waste of well deserved strength I was. I want to travel, that was true, but I also want to be free while doing so, and I'm not going to let you dictate my actions just as it's always been." Her voice sounded empty. "So just kill me."

August seemed shocked, but Cosette carried along, now looking at Jen as well. "You're wrong, I don't know better than you do that you can't let us wander back into the real world. That's bullshit, because you can but you've got your training so shoved down your throats you wouldn't know what else to do. I can't in any form show you that we are telling the truth, and I don't know if you have any enchantment or what ever you do to let you know that either. But if you where to somehow say that we were telling the truth, it would mean nothing. In the end, we're still demons, and you're still the ones who kill us, because that's what you've been told is right, despite it meaning that you might have to kill someone innocent in an encounter such as this. So you might as well just kill me, because even if you decide we're innocent, you'd still trap us like dogs." Well, that was a mouthful.

Jen found August's ticking point. Jen kept a mental note of that. By the end of Cosette's speech, Jen had found hers as well. In all of August's banter, Cosette was the one that made the strongest case for the demons. A demon that was willing to lay down and die for their freedom? That was a first. Most demons tried to bargain with the hunters. They had fallen for the tricks of a demon once. The results of their foolishness gave Jennette a bad arm. Her arm often caused her pain in typical task. She lived off of painkillers it seemed.

Jennette was feeling somewhat emotional after looking at the two of them. She kept her straight face up perfectly, but behind she felt the tears that wanted to fall. August and Cosette were running from a life they didn't want, that they didn't choose, just as Kane and Jennette were. The only difference was - the hunters wanted revenge against the creature that stripped their life away. The two people interrogating the demons had more blood on their hands then August and Cosette did. Their sole purpose in like was to eradicate evil. They didn't know how to live a normal life. As much as Jennette wished for an end to their work, she didn't know how to hang up that hat. Neither did Kane. Both were trained from birth to be killers. All of the demons the two had come across were out for blood, they never saw demons with humanity - only savagery.

Kane processed Cosette's speech much quicker than Jen. Though she was deemed the smart one in their two man conquest, her mind often clouded with emotion that got in the way of better judgement. Kane was good at keeping strong emotions out of the mix.

There was a tension between the four in the room. So thick one wouldn't be able to cut.
"She's much more inspirational than you are. You're lucky she spoke up" Kane spoke up. Jen had sat back down onto the couch moments ago, running her fingers through her hair. Kane and Jen found themselves in a tough spot. Allowing them free was going against everything they were. They knew tough decisions would need to be made, but this was out of their hands. Before, Jen would've called her Father for advice - but he was long gone.

Kane's next words surprised Jen at the very least.
"Okay, you don't kill innocent people and pillage homes - that is a good thing. I believe you, and somewhere down in Jen does as well. We both have heard and seen bad things from the other side - but lets call a temporary truce. Jen and myself are in a bad spot . I won't kill you, and neither will she" Kane said, exaggerating the last part to Jen. She rolled her eyes but nodded.
"We need some help. We're looking for a specific demon responsible of terrible things, yet at the same time we're running from him. I think we're being followed by someone or something - which is the reason we are continuing to flee. If we had some helpful hands to help catch this demon, you guys will be free to do whatever business it is you do. Whether that means going somewhere to travel, or to establish yourselves a home" Kane finished with an ever serious face. Jen's head propped up. Kane's idea was smart, yet risky.
"I'd like to add that if attempts on our lives are made after we let you out, I'm going to go ape shit and stab someone" she sighed. Her head hurt terribly, and so did her arm. Jen was a bit...cranky. Though she was sure everyone in the room was. Kane was just a level-headed guy however. Getting him worked up was a hard task. Jen just wanted the conversation to be over with so she could go buy some painkillers. She snatched the knife from Kane and stepped forward near the beginning of the circle. With her heeled boots she shifted the rug to the ride to reveal part of the circle that trapped them.
"Do we have a deal?" she asked finally, with an exhausted sigh. Kane may trust them, but Jen was one to not trust someone until it was earned.
