The birds chirped merrily in the sky outside, and light streamed in through the open window. Haruhi Suzumiya rolled over, covering her eyes in annoyance. She was sure she had closed the window the night before, so how had it gotten open again? Haruhi didn't ponder that fact - she was only interested in much stranger things than a mysteriously open window. She hated waking up like this - especially today.
"Stupid birds, why wake me up? I was having a really good dream, too..." She muttered, rubbing her eyes in a futile attempt to drive the sleep away. She opened her eyes, and was greatly surprised to find them met with... steel and grass? She blinked - still there. Sitting up, she gawked down at the unusual object beside her - a... claymore?! Not to mention that she was outside - where the hell was she? Now she was interested. Hopping to her feet, she glanced around. She seemed to be in some kind of forest. What she had thought was light streaming in through the curtains of her bedroom had really been sunlight filtering through the canopy of leaves above her. That explained that at least, but it hardly mattered. The real question was where was she?
The wind blew, and Haruhi noticed something else strange - instead of the pajamas she had worn to sleep, she was now clad in some sort of rather skimpy light armor. Wait a minute, NOW it all made sense... She must have been transported into some kind of roleplaying game or anime by a super-advanced alien technology, or maybe by magic! This was awesome! It was the break she had been waiting for her entire life! Grabbing the claymore, she tried to hoist it up, but found that she couldn't. It was just too heavy for a young girl like her to carry. Now that didn't seem right. Anime and video games NEVER followed the rules of physics like that. If they did, that'd be boring. A sword was supposed to be light as a feather, no matter how big it was. Frustrated, Haruhi tried again. To her surprise, on her second try, the sword did not even effect her as she picked it up, as though gravity had taken a vacation. She recoiled in surprise, nearly falling over as she overexerted herself, flinging the sword back over her head and stabbing it deep into a tree. What the heck just happened? Did she do that?
While she was overjoyed at the lightness of her new weapon, she was also worried about something. Anime or video games would never let the protagonist get away with that. If that was the case, then she couldn't have been either of those. That left only two other likely solutions. A: she had become a god in her sleep. B: this was all a lucid dream. While she'd have loved to believe A, it just didn't seem like good writing to randomly give someone the ability to warp reality without any foreshadowing or logic whatsoever. No, she thought with a sigh, this was probably just another dream. Still, she supposed... might as well enjoy it while it lasted.
