Image
The Past

ImageImageBowen Eli Davion was born in 1432 during a turbulent time of war between two of Terra's nations. This war had gone on for very nearly one hundred years before his birth. Since Bowen was born to the House of Davion, a noble family of one of these kingdoms it was his duty to serve as a knight and bring honor to his house and the king he and his family had sworn fealty to.

There was nothing special about Bowen's childhood besides the wealth his family possessed. This wealth elevated him above the level of the common peasants and serfs of the kingdom and allowed him and his brother access to the finer things in life available during this time period. The best in life included the finest martial training to be had. He was also given access to women and other finery as was his birthright.

He served valiantly as a knight for the House of Plantagenet, the king's house for five years. His fifth year marked the end of the long war and the House of Plantagenet and all the houses and armies under it were forced to return home. During his time in the war he showed great aptitude with the bow and the sword but did not participate in heavy fighting. The House of Davion and those men who served it were often set as rear guard and so saw only skirmishes and peasant insurrection. After the war the House of Davion was one of the houses the ruling monarch accused of a fault and blamed for the loss of the war. So it was that Davion lost his lands and much that goes along with his noble birthright after the war ended.

The loss of his lands was not the most notable event of Bowen's life during the years of 1454 to 1456. As he and a small party of the his knights were returning home they were ambushed near the cost as they prepared to board ship and leave the mainland for home. They were slaughtered to the man save Bowen who was injured. Bowen had described the ordeal and insisted that his men had been slain by demon wolves. At the time it was thought that his injury was mortal as he was found by a group of knights belonging to the House of Thatcher. During the next week these knights brought Bowen over the sea with them and returned him to his lands and his home.

The demon wolves his men had been slain by had been lycanthropes and the wound he had received had infected him with the disease. His strong constitution had saved him though the wound had been grievous and meant to kill, not injure him. During the next couple weeks he would struggle with the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical pain and anguish of becoming what he would later discover was a werewolf. During this time he thought himself evil and often berated himself and named himself a coward for refusing to commit suicide. The struggle was most difficult after getting word of his brother's death at the hands of an enemy ambush during a withdraw from a fort on the coast.

The Present

ImageImageDespite the loss of his noble title and his lands Bowen Eli Davion has proven extraordinarily long lived. His tremendous constitution as a human was only enhanced when he became a werewolf. This has afforded him the time to amass large sums of money and power that dwarfs his former holdings as a noble lord. Money and power was never enough for Bowen and he has always sought the acceptance of his fellow man or werewolf. As such he has worked hard to defend Terra and its people and formed the mercenary organization known as Vindex.

Vindex is a small paramilitary mercenary group that was often employed by the various Terran governments and national organizations for reasons of plausible deniability during the last five years. Their missions were often small scale clandestine operations and they were employed only when a national military force could not be risked of political and/or diplomatic consequence was of a major concern. As such Vindex operates under a false front called Castle. This allows Vindex and its operatives the ability to live their lives free of reprisal when not on the job.

In the present day Vindex employs about ten skilled operators and has quite a collection of advanced gadgets and weaponry. The company has a small military compound located on the outskirts of Wing City and an office located in Lutetia. They often assist the local police agencies or private citizens when they need to hire a private investigator or security services. Bowen seldom involves Vindex with the various packs or factional groups in Lutetia but he is known to support the city and various charities. As such he is well liked by the city government and the people and often touted as a upstanding and moral citizen. After his first transformation and the death of his brother he became an atheist but does support many local religious groups for the positive and moral influence they can have on young people.

Bowen has had many passing loves during his long life and yet has never had children. He surmises the cause of this to be a fever he had during his youth that may have left him sterile. Despite his capability to love he realizes that he will outlive any woman he chooses as a wife and thus often breaks off relationships after months and before they can become serious enough to cause his would be spouse heart ache. His kind heart often becomes a bleeding wound after these brief relationships as he falls in love rather easily.

As far as a werewolf goes Bowen is pretty common with exception to his constitution and regenerative capabilities. Some have speculated that Bowen is gifted with true regeneration and could heal lost limb or organ. He has yet to test this theory and has no wish to do so but has noted that he heals extraordinary quickly even when faced with weapons and other devices that one of his kind should not be able to recover from. He has been described as tough as nails by his employees and friends. When he is forced into the war form and must contend with tooth and claw he prefers the use of speed, skill, and dexterity over brute strength. In the form of a wolf, the war form, or anything in between he has dark hair and bright yellow eyes.

Bowen is the oldest living werewolf he knows. His age does not make him any more or less powerful physically. He does possess a vast array of skills, talents, and knowledge accrued and honed over his long lifespan. He enjoys painting and regularly sits in on the Lutetia Musical Orchestra as a violinist, saxophonist, or pianist. He does have a few vices which include drinking expensive scotch and smoking imported cigars. To the outside world, he appears as a young, handsome, business-savvy, and charming man. However, he has a "dark side": he secretly practices BDSM.

Werewolf Traits:
• True Regeneration - Bowen heals with extraordinary swiftness, but not quite instantaneously. Almost no injuries are permanent, save the loss of his head or the destruction of his heart. Loss of limb or damaged organ takes days to recover from while punctures, lacerations, bullet wounds, and broken bones can be recovered from in seconds or minutes depending on the severity. Bullets are pushed from his body as his regeneration takes effect. Bones reset themselves unless his flesh is restrained. Lost limb can be reattached provided it is done with great haste.
• Weaknesses - Whilst silver is not any more effective at damaging him than other weapons, wounds caused by silver weapons or that come into contact with silver have their regeneration greatly impeded. Wounds caused by contact with silver also sting and burn. Aconitum or Wolf's Bane is still as poisonous to him as it is to other people. He is resistant to poisons and diseases with exception to Aconitum.
• Enhanced Strength/Agility - Bowen has enhanced strength and agility even in the homid form. He has the greatest strength while in crinos form and the greatest agility and speed while in lupis form. A good mix of both would be the hispo form.
• Enhanced Senses - Bowen has enhanced hearing and smell even in the homid form. His senses are sharpest in the lupis form.
• Enhanced Toughness - Bowen is as tough as nails even in the homid form. His bones are denser and his skin is harder to penetrate. While in crinos or hispo form his skin has toughness not unlike steel chainmail.
• Altered Forms - Bowen has five distinct and separate forms available to him. While in most of these forms he can easily maintain his intelligence and the process of rational thought unless set to a true emotional rage or when exposed to the light of a full moon. These forms are; the homid form that resembles his former human self, the glabro form which roughly resembles a human but has too many bestial features to be mistaken for a human in bright light, and the crinos form which is the massive hybrid form commonly associated with a lycanthrope, the hispo form - the shape of a prehistoric dire wolf, and the Lupus form which is indistinguishable from a normal wolf but with superior agility and speed. He can change at will but is most comfortable in the homid, lupus, or hispo form and seldom uses the glabro or crinos form.

Glabro: The glabro form is bipedal, and it doesn't possess obvious fangs or claws, but the resemblance to a human being ends there. Bowen gains two-hundred pounds of muscle and six inches of height when shifting into this form from his normal human self. After the shift he stands at six foot, eight inches tall and weighs in at four-hundred and twenty pounds. His body hair becomes much more profuse, his teeth and nails elongate, his brow slopes, and he looks huge and menacing. He can speak though his words have a guttural rasp to them. His eyes glow with a menacing yellow.

Crinos: Crinos is not a form for deliberation, even with other werewolves. Shifting from glabro to crinos, Bowen grows in height by three foot, four inches and gains another four hundred pounds of muscle weight. His head changes to a wolf's maw, and the fangs and claws are now fully grown. His arms become long and apelike, and he can move either on two legs or all fours. He grows a tail, which helps with balance and a thick coat of fur as dark as midnight. He can speak albeit very crudely, managing maybe one or two words at a time. Bowen has great difficulty keeping control while in this form and so seldom uses it.

Hispo: The hispo form resembles a normal wolf in the same way that the glabro form resembles a normal human. Bowen in hispo form looks like a prehistoric dire wolf. His head and jaws are massive, even more so than the crinos form, and his bite is more powerful because of this increased size. He can stand on his hind legs in hispo form with great difficulty if necessary, but he is much more comfortable on all fours.

He has no hands in this form and cannot speak. Bowen stands five foot tall at the shoulder and weighs slightly more than eight-hundred pounds while in in this form. He has midnight fur and yellow eyes. He walks and runs on four legs and thus is faster and a bit more agile. His senses are more acute in this form.

Lupus: A werewolf in lupus form cannot be distinguished from a natural wolf and in some cases a large dog with wolf lineage. Bowen resembles a rather large but very handsome wild wolf with midnight fur and yellow eyes. He is most comfortable in this form or in the homid form. His senses are sharpest in this form and he is very fast on his feet and agile. Bowen weighs about one hundred and twenty pounds, only slightly bigger than a natural gray wolf.

• Lunar Cycle - Bowen is forced to transform into Lupus form if exposed to the full moon's light.

Standard Equipment:
• Silvered/Carbon Steel Khukuri or Silvered/Carbon Steel Tomahawk
• Browning Hi Power Standard Semi-Auto Pistol

Important Characters

Image James Guiscard otherwise known as Baron and leader of the Bloodstone Pack runs his territory with fairness. The Vindex building resides within Baron's territory and Baron and Bowen are on amicable terms for now. The current way of things, the way things have been going for the last five years can not continue on as they have been going. Though Bowen respects Baron the two are irrevocably alpha males in the same area. While Bowen may want nothing more to join other wolves in a pack he is an alpha male and refuses to fall under the leadership of another. He also has three other wolves working at Vindex and can not make such a decision for them.

After refusing Bowen's offered aid a number of times primarily to due to politics and pride, the Bloodstone Pack leader may have burned bridges that are not so easily repaired.

ImageVanessa Richard is a member of the Bloodstone Pack and one of Bowen's romantic interests. Recent events such as the kidnapping of Vanessa's daughter, Sophia by Alek, a vampire have not allowed them to get to know each other as Bowen would have liked. If there is one thing that may convince Bowen to fall under the leadership of another it may be love that does it. As of this point he is infatuated with her but is not sure if his feelings are caused because of the stability she represents or if there is something deeper hidden there in. To say there isn't some sexual attraction would be a lie. Little does Bowen know that Vanessa has been attempting to distance herself from her pack.

Image Chloe Sandara works for Vindex and for Bowen. She is Alphonse's partner and both of them respect her as a capable detective even though she has not been with the company long. There was a strong physical attraction between Bowen and Chloe the moment they were first introduced. Ever since she was attacked by Alek, a vampire and her apartment was burned down she has been living at Bowen's apartment on the third floor of the Vindex building. While Bowen does care for her and wishes nothing more than to keep her safe he also feels that her lack of control over her own life could influence him in ways that would turn his life upside down. Still he enjoys her company and the physical attraction is hard for him to resist.

So begins...

"Until we see each other again, Brother." She answered quietly. "I am here, should you need me." She added, in the old tongue. She watched the black wolf pad off silently before shifting herself and walking back deeper into the woods.

Bowen listened as Alexander spoke. "We don't exactly go into outer-space Mr. Meronin." Such a statement could soon be called a lie with Vanessa's kidnapping and enslavement by the Aschen but Bowen did not know of that yet and it could be that he would never be made aware it.

"We are not judge, jury, and executioner." Had he not been judge, jury, and executioner for Alek? Bowen's gaze was steady. We are a relatively small organization Mr. Meronin. If it is a job you require please tell me what skills you bring to the table. We don't have a need for an assassin." That was a half truth. Vindex did not do assassin work. Castle had performed plenty of assassinations.

Alexander sighed, bowing his head and cradling it in his hands. Tears sprang into his eyes, one slowly leaking down his face. "Do you know what it's like to lose everything, Mr. Davion? I'm sure that in your time, you have experienced losses of grievous magnitude, but have you ever lost everything? I'm lost, simple as that. There's nothing I can return to. I don't seek to free the world through blood anymore. There is enough on my hands as it is. What I need is something to believe in, a creed to follow. One that is at once both just and pragmatic, merciful and unrelenting. All I need is that," he said softly, staring at the ground.

Breathing deeply, Alexander shut off his emotions for the time being. Grief was something of the past, something that had no place now. "I may be an assassin, true, but I have more than that at my disposal. I guess you could call me a jack-of-all-trades kind of person. Haggling, diplomacy, hacking, piloting, anything you need I can do to an extent. But if you need an infiltrator of any sorts, that's what I excel in. Many people can do that, I realize. But when you have to hide for a living, you learn how to manage yourself better," stated Alexander. Chuckling, he stared into Bowen's eyes, "It's completely vain, but I'd like to say I'm one of the best sneaks in the planet."

"Alright. I will give you a shot. Meet me here tomorrow morning at nine. A few of us will be going down to the gun range for some practice. I would see what you are capable of. Is that satisfactory?" Bowen nodded and extended his hand for a shake. In truth this man seemed a bit too emotional for his tastes but he would see how he worked out over a few days.

"Make sure you bring your identification, citizenship papers, any permits for weapons, and pertinent awards in when you come in the morning alright?"

Accepting the hand, Alexander shook it firmly. What did this man think of him? Hopefully nothing too bad, or else he might not be accepted after all. In which case he would have to go back to wandering.

"I thank you for the opportunity, Mr. Davion. Until tomorrow then," he stated. Bowing, he left the room.

Rowan slowly pulled open the doors to the VINDEX building, a small smile upon his lips. He had not been on this side of the city in quite some time, but it would seem that he had grown some. He wore a rather expensive business suit that was well fitted to his form, his beard neatly shaven. He was rather dashing.

He walked over to the reception's desk and grinned a white smile to the woman sitting there today. "Hello." He said calmly. "I would like to speak with Mr. Davion."

Ms. Snow smiled at the man and rose from her seat behind the desk. "You are the man from Mr. Titus's shop are you not? May I ask as to the nature of your visit and your name?" She picked up a phone with her hand depressing the button to make it clear she was ready to call for Mr. Davion.

"Rowan Alaster. I've come to talk business." The man answered politely. "And might I add, you're looking lovely again today, ma'am."

"Thank you." She smiled brightly, charmed by Rowan's pleasant facade and then pushed a button. There was a brief pause and then she spoke. "A Mr. Alaster is here to see you on business." There was another brief pause. "Yes sir. I can do that." She smiled and hung up the phone. "He shall be right out to see you. Please make yourself comfortable. He has asked me to run an errand. Have a wonderful day Mr. Alaster."

Unless stopped she would leave out the back door that lead into the enclosed parking lot.

A few minutes later and Bowen would step into the lobby and study Rowan with his eyes, his nose, and his ears. "Greetings Mr. Alaster." He would extend a hand to shake but his general demeanor was neither friendly nor openly hostile. "Would you like to accompany me back to my office?"

He nodded. "Very well, I do hope we shall meet again, m'lady." He smiled, pulling a rueful expression as if he hated to see her go away. Afterwards, he stood in the lobby, eyes focused on the air in front of him, his arms behind his back, waiting for Bowen to appear.

As soon as Bowen did appear, Rowan could tell he was on guard. Rowan did the same, studying Bowen in much of the same manner, but his smile never faded. Nor did his demeanor fall to that any less friendly than he had shown Ms. Snow earlier. He took Bowen's grip firmly and shook it. His hand was scarred and thickly callused in some areas. "Greetings Mr. Davion." He said. "Yes, I would."

Bowen escorted Rowan to his office. They passed the doors of his employee's, some of which were in. Léon Barnes was in his office. He and the man he was speaking with, a man with a hunt ivy cap, cool blue eyes, and a thick brown beard glanced up as the two men passed down the hall. They passed Chloe's door and stopped briefly as Bowen opened his door for Rowan.

The office was just as Chloe had first seen it. Military awards still dotted the walls and shelves along with artifacts from days long gone. The suit of armor still stood near the door with the torn ball cap set upon the crest of the suit's helm. "Please have a seat Mr. Alaster." Bowen would move around his desk, unbutton his jacket and take his seat.

The man gazed casually into each open room as he passed through, catching details from what he could glance off from each. There were many wolves in here, but there were other scents he was all too familiar with as well. Vampire lingered with the sweet sent of roses, and human. "Hm." Rowan hummed to himself, following Bowen into his office.

Rowan followed, unbuttoning the jacket in the front and taking a seat across from Bowen. His blue hues seemed to glow slightly as he gazed around the room, examining the room and how it was decorated. "I recognize a few of those." He pointed up to the military awards. "Ancient, comparatively. I've suspected you've been.. Around." Rowan's intent on the word hinted at other meanings.

"You have quite an establishment here, Mr. Davion. I'm sorry we've not had the chance to get to know each other better prior to this. I've been meaning to, honestly."

Bowen was stroking his chin as if he were lost in thought. He nodded and stood. He walked behind his desk and fetched two crystal whisky tumblers. There on the counter was a round crystal decanter with a crystal stopper. Behind that was a much larger decanter with a label. It was a Macallan whisky, quite expensive and rare. "Thank you. Would you like some scotch Mr. Alaster?" Bowen poured two glasses. He replaced the crystal stopper and brought the tumblers over, handing one to Rowan and then taking his seat. He place his glass on his desk and withdrew a wooden box which he opened. "Cigar?" When Rowan declined to smoke he replace the box without taking one himself.

"How are things in Audrieu?" This was the polite small talk before business. Each man tried to read the other. Bowen took a sip of his drink.

Rowan took the glass, nodding his thanks. He swirled the liquid in the glass gently, sniffing the contents, a knowing smile coming to his lips. "Audrieu is as it usually is. It is growing." He said with a sigh before adding, "And with all growth spurts, there are growth pains. But we've never been more profitable. You wouldn't recognize the Audrieu now from 20 years ago.."

"You've not been idle yourself, though. In a small amount of time, you've seemed to make yourself quite a figurehead in keeping the laws to our favor. But it isn't hard to figure out that this little financial endeavor of yours is keeping your accounts in the red. Question is, why?" Rowan smiled. "I don't mean to be rude, it isn't my intent. I am genuinely curious. What is so important here to you?"

Bowen took some time to answer, a smile gracing his lips. "If the only investment I had was Lutetia then your statement would be very true. In the end I view Lutetia and her people as an investment. An investment that will one day return to me much more than I have put into it." He was bleeding money in Lutetia. His other investments barely kept up with supporting his lifestyle and his business.

Bowen skirted Rowan's question without answering it directly. His smile returned and he took another sip of his scotch before speaking. "What brings you in to see me today Mr. Alastar?"

A soft but deep laugh sounded short in Rowan's throat as he too took a sip from the glass he had been offered. He noted Bowen's lack of answer. It was most likely a personal matter.

The man's smile broadened and he sat back with ease. "Expansion." Rowan let the word roll off his lips like a purr. "As I have mentioned before, Audrieu is growing. But in the small confines of space I am allowed to work with, I can only do so much. I'm looking to expand Audrieu for it to grow out further, spreading the wealth further into this lovely city. And in turn.. This would be most lucrative for you as well." He let the words sink in for a moment.

"Could turn those red ledgers into black again.."

"I think perhaps you have come to the wrong place Mr. Alaster. You would need to speak to Mr. Guiscard about Lupaix. I don't claim any territory.", he said rather bluntly. He motioned with his hands and leaned back in his chair. "I am sure you already knew that though so let me ask, what is it that you want of me?" He rubbed his chin with the palm of his right hand.

The man snorted and a smirk formed on his face. His eyes burned slightly as he remained silent for a long moment. Bowen could see the shift in the man's demeanor for the briefest of seconds. "I'm sure you're smart enough to know why I didn't go to Baron for this. You've been here long enough to know what goes on between the lines." Rowan answered quietly, leaning forward in his chair as he did so.

"And..." He added slowly, "..you know exactly why I am here."

Rowan knew that this man wasn't exactly ignorant with information. It was, in fact, what VINDEX thrived upon.

Bowan mirrored Rowan, leaning forward in his chair. "Do I? I can think of a number of possible reasons for you came here today." He clenched his jaw and grimaced. His brow furrowed. "Frankly my relationship with Mr. Guiscard and his pack has been slightly less than amicable as of late. I still don't see why siding with Aodhan over Bloodstone would benefit me or my people."

In truth he did know. Vindex did thrive on information.

Rowan could almost see the hackles of the wolf in front of him. Bowen was raising his defenses now. And this brought a slight thrill to Rowan.

Still, he contained his excitement, hiding it behind the well placed mask he metaphorically wore around anyone who wasn't quite sure what he was. "Why, there are so many things that this could benefit for you, my friend. Profit is the biggest bonus, but not the only.. I am sure you would like the benefit of extra protection.. Not after the last incident with your lovely employee being taken hostage by not just a vampire.. But by the pack of wild dogs who did heaven only knows to her.." He smirked slightly. "My sources say, she was pretty banged up when you got her back, isn't that right?"

"And on your own turf. Oh wait, not yours.. Baron's. How's it feel to be under the thumb of a werewolf that treats you like a low life when you offer your services? Basically treats you like you are one of his. Hell, he's already started to try to integrate your employees into his pack too.." Rowan placed the scotch down and placed his elbows on his knees. "If I must be frank.. You own no territory.. You claim no pack... Yet the way it shows to the rest of our kind.. Baron is treating you like his bitch. I can fix that. With your help, of course."

"Tch." He leaned back in his chair and finished his scotch. His jaw clenched, leaned forward, and then back again before resting his chin between the thumb and pointer finger of his right hand as his elbow pressed into the leader arm rest. Anger flared behind his eyes.

It was a matter of trust. Did Bowen trust Chloe? At this point he did. He trusted her enough that he believed she would have told him if something had happened that should not have happened. He easily recognized Rowan's attempt to infuriate him and push loyalties around. He responded just as he was expected to respond.

To the later remarks about territory, pack, and Baron treating him like his bitch he took on a disinterested look. "Is that so? What would you do if you were in my position then Mr. Alastar?"

Rowan raised a brow slightly. "Quite frankly, if our roles were reversed, Mr. Davion.. I would not be in the position you are in right now. You and I are cut from the same cloth, but our experiences and needs differ.." Rowan leaned back in his seat again. "You are a man of many talents. You have obviously seen the world change many times in your lifetime. Information is at your disposal. But you have personal ties that hold your hands down. And it gets worse the closer each one of them gets to you. You need them."

"You are a puppet by design.. You hide who you are in order to keep a footing in with the politics here and keep your business afloat.. You use your employees to do the bidding of other mongrels within the city.. You move and act and dance and jig as the rest of society expects you to do, Bowen." Rowan smiled slightly. "But you see.. There ain't no strings on me." He crossed his ankle over one leg. "I'm offering you a way to cut some of those strings away. But you must be the one to decide that." His grin turned slightly maniacal, a teasing glance at Rowan's true nature. "You can only decide not to be a puppet anymore, when the puppet decides for itself."

Bowen clenched his jaw. "Is that so? You think I am a puppet?" Bowen smiled and let loose a slight chuckle. "What brought you to my office today Mr. Alastar?" He finished his drink, put the glass on his desk, and then leaned back in his chair.

While it was true that it was not public knowledge that he was a werewolf he would not have denied it or tried to hide what he was. He did not go to any great lengths beyond what others of his kind did to hide what he was. His position and operation was not hinged on keeping that information secret. The fact that most did not know just made it easier for him to operate.
