Farai Black's Story

There was another new face to Gambit's. It was not like that was unusual at all. But then again, in Wing City, what was unusual? Demons, vampires, werewolves, spirits, psychics, and intensely advanced technology were no strangers here. Nor were mages...but what kind of mages? There were many, many different types. Today, a new one made their entrance.

A lanky youth with hands stuffed into their pockets entered Gambit's, black bangs all but blindfolding the figure for their length. With a pair of new dark sneakers, faded cargo pants, and a baggy old zip-up hoodie, the youth barely looked out of the ordinary. Then again, no one could always judge a book in this place.

Over the youth's head was a pair of large headphones, two green lights glowing at each side. With a quick look-around, the youth shrugged, let out a breathy laugh, and slid themselves into a stool at the counter.

The youth looked down at the menu, which was a bit different than most were used to at first. After all, most bars did not have electronic touch screen menu. Lifting their head, the figure with the long bangs looked around.

"Mnn."

There did not seem to be a bartender...so how exactly did this work? Even with a face that remained mostly cloaked by hair, it was clear that the youth was puzzled. They rested their eyes onto the redheaded...wing-boy.

"Interesting."

The youth tilted their head to the side. "Perhaps," they said, fingers curling atop their knees, "I don't quite understand how they would serve here. I don't see anyone." They blinked, and their bangs moved accordingly.

"You don't look entirely...there, friend. Are you sure you'll be able to help me?"

"Really? Ah...so just plug in an order, then. This...currency system...sure does look complicated." commented the youth, looking over the varying slots for coins and paper money. The youth adjusted the headphones so they hung around their neck.

"A teleportation system? That sounds...highly amusing. Though, I was hearing rumors...I didn't really believe it at first. I heard that robots served while there were not any in-the-blood tenders. Lets see...just plug something in, right?" they said, tone of voice expressing a slightly sarcastic, but patient mind.

Pressing on a drink, the youth waited. Pretty soon, a light flickered behind the bar. Out came one of the robotic bartenders, mixing the youth's drink to perfection. It was delivered quickly.

"Oh. I was right. Even more interesting." said the young figure. Suddenly, however, their eyes flickered up, landing onto Zach. The headphone wearer lifted an eyebrow.

Sparring could be the right word for it, though one could say that it was one-sided, with the dancer's bangs over their eyes, putting forward a shield instead of pulling out a sword.

"Possibly." answered the youth to Alex, head following Zach as he sat down at the counter. Something... intrigued the brown-eyed youth about this one. Couldn't lay a finger particularly on what.

As their drink came, they reached out to take the glass in slim fingers. It was a tall class filled with clear liquid, though it certainly wasn't water.

"Look mighty like you're from a Middle Ages play or something."

The black-hared youth never broke their stare with Zachery. "Ah, I see. A different...time...well, that's quite...surprising. There is more to Wing City than I first anticipated." they said, tilting their head ever so slightly to the side.

"I wonder what else could be different about you. Or is that it?" the youth asked, stopping to glance at Voidforger for but a moment.

The youth leaned the stool back, one foot hooking underneath the counter to prevent falling. A wide, shit-eating grin spread across their face. "Called it." they said, fingers tapping onto the counter. "So, what? You enjoy crossdressin'? I can't say you do it badly. You look pretty cute either way."

An eye flickered to Alex. "Sober spell. How...interesting is not the word..."

"Oh, don't I agree." the youth said to Danika, bringing their drink up to their lips and taking a sip. A grimace passed their face. "Ugh..." With haste, the drink was put back down, and hands folded behind their head.

A finger stirred around in their drink, eyes aimed toward the ceiling. "So, girly-man, or manly-girl...so I don't have to keep referring t'you that way...what is your name?" asked the youth, kicking their feet up on the counter.

"I'm curious, you might say."

The youth found themself chuckling as well. "Alright, Zachery...if that is your real name. Which I suppose it is. You're called what you want, I suppose." they said, half-smirking.

"I'm Farai. Farai Black. Call me either."

"I would say that, yes, this is my first time here. To Wing City, even. Just strolled on in." said Farai, fingers hooking into the headset.

"What brings me here? I would say...the rumors. All the rumors! And...well..." Farai turned in the chair to gesture to the noisy, diverse bar with an outstretched hand.

"...so far, the rumors are true!"

Farai rose a hand to their forehead and saluted to Zena. "Until then, Zachery." said the youth, giving her another dark smirk. "Hope to see you again, too."

Now alone, Farai folded their hands across their stomach, heaving a sigh. Two people caught the eye of the youth: Markuss and Morrigan.

"You look as perplexed as I was when I first came in." the youth said to the girl. "You...plug in an order into the touch-screen menu and a robot brings it. Isn't that interesting? It's absolutely interesting, I think."

Looking to Markuss, Farai sighed. "Long day? It looks like it's been a long day. For you, that is."

Farai spread their hands out with their palms facing the opposite wall. "not at all, not at all. It's kind of hard for anyone to rub off on my anyway." the youth said, placing an ankle atop their knee. The youth's face squinted a bit.

"Trying to get past that accent is a little tough." said Farai, pulling at the headphones. "Perhaps hanging around wouldn't hurt, though, from what I heard...it often does hurt. Quite a bit!"

With a bit of lame laughter the youth looked back to Morrigan. "Hey, hey. Just trying to help. Not gonna get too mad, are'ye?"

"So I heard!" Farai replied to Markuss, licking alcohol off their fingers. Ugh. Stuff was nasty. That couldn't of been alcohol.

Looking back briefly to Morrigan, the youth simply pouted. It was as mocking and sarcastic as one got. "Was that an insult? I almost feel hurt."

Then, back to Markuss, "I think I can manage myself. Seems tame on my side so far. Nothing too rowdy. Though, I swear I speak too soon...watch this! The moment I finish this sentence something'll go wrong...now!" Farai paused, waiting for it.

"...aaaand...now!"

Another pause.

"Well damn."

"Ah, well, that's how balance goes! Can't have too much good without the bad, yada yada, all that jazz." said the youth, flicking their wrists upward, palms to the ceiling. "But hey, what do I know? I only just got here, having briefly heard some mutterings about it."

Sitting up in their chair, the young twenty-something clicked their fingernails together. "My name? Hah. Farai Black. Some people call me Ai. Or Black. Really, it don't matter to me."

Noting Morrigan had not been answering, Farai laughed through their nose. "Interestin'. Giving up real easy.

"Oh, and blast it. Mind my manners." said the youth, looking back to the one-armed redhead. "Gimmie your own name! Fair exchange, right?

"I wonder why that is? Some invisible, driving force, I suppose...or simple curiosity of just what'll happen next! There's that, too."

Spinning in the chair so that they faced Markuss completely, Farai nodded. "Alright, I got it. You're okay. I like you." said the youth, just until the man cracked his back, causing them to grimace. "Aii...that didn't sound healthy, mate. Go get a chiropractor or something."

Hesitantly, as Markuss held out the hand, Farai took it, shaking firmly. "Yeah, well, I can say I'm one in a million, sometimes. Other times I'm one of a kind, but that sounds a bit 'special snowflake.' Either way." Farai gave him a smirk. "Nice to meet you...ah...Markuss!"

"You know something, I have noticed that. I thought there would be more like you, though. Am I wrong? Are you really the only one?" asked Farai, perking a brow underneath the long bangs. "I hear some stuff about the lake and glen being quite nice. I hear the sea is awful, though. Something about sirens. Not that I get what that even means."

Leaning one elbow onto the counter, Farai looked about the other patrons at the same time as Markuss. For being new, the youth did not seem particularly frightened. At first, there was amazement, then vague interest. It had already become commonplace to Farai.

The youth snapped to attention the moment Markuss spoke up again. "Mm? Oh! Isn't a need to do anything like that!" they said, patting Markuss' left shoulder. One might have assumed, at first, that it was a gesture to the missing arm, but the youth was blind to it.

"In fact, you've been an awful good mate, yeah? Your next is on me. I have to, ah...be sober tonight, myself."

"I'd argue again, saying that it's you who's had the tough month, but hey, if I get water you can't pay anyway, can you?" said Farai, raising a hand to slip under the bangs and lift them up, revealing slanted, calculating brown eyes.

"A job? Well...you could call it a job. More of a hobby, really! It's not like I can't do it all stumbling everywhere, it just that it looks less impressive and more amusing. Can't ruin my perfectly good record 'cuz I felt like drinking, now, can I?" said Farai to Markuss.

"Actually...God! Look at the time! Seriously? Seriously. Tha' can't be it! Hey, listen, sorry about this. I've got to run. I'm later than I thought I was! Since you come by here a lot maybe I'll catch you another time, alright! Yeah. Cya!"

With that, the youth slipped out of their seat and was off in a hurry.

Scrolling on their iPod was a black-haired youth with oversized headphones, a long black duster, and bangs so long they covered their eyes. The music was so loud that the other side of the cart could hear it.

Suddenly looking up from catching a movement at the side of their eye, the youth looked up, brown eyes landing upon the guy dressed mostly in purple. The youth rose a brow, looked about, then moved over to him.

"Not gonna pull a weapon on me and ask f'ma phone and wallet, are you?"

"Come on, come on! Lets get this started!"

A skinny youth dressed in a long black duster came down the sidewalk, a boombox in one hand, an iPod in the other. They walked down, bouncing on their heels, down to a group of perhaps ten other people, most boys, dressed in oversized, baggy pants and hoodies.

As the skinny youth, with bangs so long they concealed their eyes, came toward them, they placed the boombox down onto the sidewalk, then hooked up the iPod.

Blasting at top volume was hardstyle shuffle music, strong in beat and fast-paced. The youth raised their hands up, bobbing their head. "Alright, alright! Let it begin, my friends! Come on, stop standin' there!"
