Description

Image
Oh, I'm supposed to be dead? Never was much of a details guy ..

Appearance: Jack's the typical blue-eyed blonde-haired media darling with a smile that attracts camera flashes as well as fangirls. At 6'2'' and 210 lbs of solid muscle he can swagger with the rest of 'em, but would much prefer to stand and sign autographs.

And then -- all of it changed.

After being burned, Jack cut his signature locks short. They were browner at the roots, anyways, and the change in appearance startled even himself. His eyes naturally remained the same hue, but they don't sparkle anymore these days. They're harder, colder, and much less trusting.

Ditching his polo shirt and surfboard look, Jack started dressing back to his roots. Yankee's cap. Hooded sweatshirts. Anything to make him fit in on the streets of New York -- which have suddenly become his new ( yet familiar ) home.

Personality: Always making jokes, always ready with something bright to say. The 'event' changed most of Jack's laid-back, easygoing demeanor. There's an edge of retaliation in the man now, a spark, even. Humor doesn't come as easily to him as it did back then.

Equipment/Abilities: Jack is an Ignitor. Simply put, Ignition is a form of elemental control. With a snap of his fingers, Jack can summon a flame to lengthen and manipulate -- or he could simply 'ignite' something, and send it sky high. The Ignitors of the past have been called just 'flashy battering rams' who would rather blow something to bits than do any actual investigation.

After being nearly drowned and left for dead, Jack has found his Ignition skills to be sapped. 'Waterlogged' he calls himself, and the decrease in ability worries him as foes close in around him. If there is a flame existing already, Jack can control it just fine -- but casting snaps is another matter.

Jack is starting to feel like all he has fuel for .. all he has left is one really great, big, final boom. And the reality of that haunts him.

"When we end this, it'll be on my terms."

History: Though a Brooklyn boy at heart, Jack found himself on the West Coast part of L.A's glitzy 'Infinity Five'. Things seemed fine, between the cars and promotional gigs -- but then one day, Jack was betrayed by his team and left to drown in the Pacific ocean.

No one expected him to survive -- but he did, by chance, thanks to some tuna fishermen off the coast. Jack staggered his way back to New York and tried to piece his life back together. Who had burned him? What had he done wrong?

∞ The Infinity Five, forever.

Note: The Jack described here is the Jack Calumet, superhero -- used in his own canon. There is another Jack Calumet an Officer in Liesha Kennicot/Fletcher Godeaux's canon.

The differences between the Jack's is that Jack stayed in New York, did not go to Los Angeles. After being burned, he remembered nothing about himself, instead of returning back to life with a vengeance. They're confusing. I play sort of a weird blend of both in the bar, depending on who's there. If you're really that interested, talk to me and I'll explain it better.

Bottom line: There are two canonical Jacks.

So begins...

Jack Calumet jumped quite literally into the bar, shutting the door with a snap behind him. He looked a bit worried.

Jack Calumet ambled into the bar, tossing his car keys up and down in the air. He had a wide grin on his face, and looked like he had just bought the world.

Jack Calumet "Uh." Jack happened to be standing next to the flapping wings. He looked over, and saw the blood packet she was trying to open. "Do you need a hand with that?"

Jack Calumet "Shit .. " Jack ducked low, jamming his keys back in his pocket. There was a crack as the thing's head hit the bottom of the table. "Are you okay? I didn't mean to startle you or anything. Shit .. "

Jack Calumet "You're. Uh. You're not on the ceiling, you're flat on your back. On the floor." The former Ignitor squatted down next to the girl, trying not to think too much about what the wings and blood packets were doing, "Don't flail around so much. Are you, uh, okay?"

Jack Calumet "You. Sort of. Well, I don't know. You were trying to get one of those medical packets opened, and you ended up giving yourself a good whack on the front of your head. Which you need, by the way." He eased her to a sitting position, carefully not wanting to touch the wings too much if he could help it.

"It's going to swell, probably. I'll get you some, uh, ice." He wasn't sure why he cared too much. Oh well, it had happened right in front of him and he had watched his sister do it enough times to know the drill. "Is that okay? Do you want some ice?"

If Liesha were to walk in now and see him helping ot this little girl .. she'd never let him hear the end of it. That was much was for sure. He rolled his eyes, glanced over his shoulder ..

Jack Calumet "Um. Right. But that's not what I asked you." She was blathering on about sisters now, and Jack felt a bit nervous. He wasn't equipped to deal with any serious sort of trauma. All he wanted to do was get his goodie points for getting her an ice press for her head. "Wait - you hit your head like that a lot? That's .. not .. helpful. At all."

He chewed on the inside of his lip. "Just stay down there, okay? I'll get you some ice."

In a few steps he was behind the bar and rooting through the freezer. He found a few ice cubes but them into a bag and smashed them up a little more.

Of course, being an Ignitor, the idea of touching ice never appealed to him. It burned at his skin a bit more than normal ice would have, but he gritted his teeth and suffered through it.

"I hate ice .. " Jack muttered to himself - not really noting the walking snowman in the bar. He came back out, squatted next down to the winged girl, and handed her the bag.

"Here, take it quick."

Jack Calumet "Just place it against where you hit your head just now. Not too hard. Otherwise it'll swell. And brain swelling is, well, it's not good." Jack was glad that the bag had left his fingers. It would have melted too fast in his grasp, as an Ignitor. "Just .. yeah. Like that. Careful."

"Hold it there for a few minutes, okay?"

Jack Calumet slipped into the bar very much like a man who does not want to be seen. Whoever tried to teach Jack how to be incognito hadn't done a very good job - with his hood up and his arms crossed over his chest, he seemed to stick out more than anything.

The former Ignitor sidled over to the counter, where Dom wiped idly away at last night's glasses. It was a weary start for the bartender, not at all helped by the nervous man before him.

"Dom." Jack said in a low voice, leaning against the counter. "Dom, I need your help."

"You shouldn't be here, Jacky." Dom said in an equally low voice. He did not make eye contact with the man, seeming instead to be intensely interested in the glass between his hands. "They come here looking for you at least every other day. It could be all over in a second, Jacky. And I mean for me, not you."

"I just need your help."

"I'd like to, Jacky, but I can't."

Jack swallowed. He glanced to the left and to the right.

"Please."

Jack Calumet Dom threw down his rag irritably, stuffing his arms over his chest like the man across from him. He shrugged thin, old shoulders and seemed to give a resigned sort of glare. "Fine. Who cares about the old bartender, anyways? Maybe they'll spare my life. What do you need?"

"Has Liesha come in here?" Jack spoke the name slowly, as though it were something he dared not to let fall from his lips.

"Plenty of times. Limps up to the counter. Orders a beer, toys with the label, might never finish it" Dom squinted. "These trick questions? They gonna get harder?"

Jack swallowed again, stroking his throat. "No. I mean - yes. I just wanted to know if she was around."

"What, you think you're gonna talk to her? You think THEY gonna let you talk to her, Jacky?" The bartender growled in a low voice. "You're mad, did you know that? Mad to come back here, mad to be in love with that crazy --"

"I'm not .. " Jack scowled. He glanced over his shoulder, hearing the door swing open. Nothing.

Jack Calumet "So that it, then? You just wanted to know about the cranky, crippled witch?" Dom seemed to be eager to get back to work, which was a first. He reached behind him and took up that rag once more. "Or you gonna start asking me things I shouldnt' know?"

"I know you know more than you're letting on." Jack declared grimly, and Dom scowled. "No - don't look at me like that. I know it, and I think you know that I know it. When all of this is settled, you and I are going to have a nice long talk about what you do know about Michael Cross."

"They're looking for him, too. He ain't been around. They mighta got him too, Jacky. You need to be more careful. More careful than this."

The bartender waved his hands in the air, showing what 'this' was. He looked around at the patrons. So did Jack.

"None of them would betray me. They haven't been paying attention in the past few weeks." Jack hoped it was true. "They don't know what's going on, and they don't care."
