History

Manik first came to Wing City as many do, a simple traveler with but one purpose: Stay Alive. He continued on existing as he always has, pick pocketing for fun and a minor living, preying on children who don't know any better than to play with a vampire.

It wasn't until he ran into a figure from his past, a man he had thwarted long ago, that Manik's life took some direction. He was dragged off the scene by the angry man, threatened to be turned in if he didn't come along. Manik was no fool, turning the situation so he was at least slightly in favor. There were certain things you learned, playing the part of a child.

He was dragged off to a place called the Cursed Wood, and made to join an organization called the Vankoryth Detente. Though he missed travel, Manik could not deny the perks that came with permanent residency in an archaic castle. He quite liked the lurking, the gossip, and all the shiny expensive metals he acquired on his stay. Of course, these were stowed away in a lair somewhere in the dungeons.

The boy, or at least he looked like a boy, wandered the streets of Wing City alone. He didn't stand out all too much, for it was summer. Many children wandered, with toys, to candy, in groups. The only real reason he stood out was the fact that he was alone.

Plainly garbed in blue, the average passer by probably wouldn't pay him heed. He wasn't scrubby, just young a riled. The boy's eyes were cast down, so he probably wasn't looking for trouble. At least, that's what he wanted you to think.

In truth he was prowling for his next steal. A sleight of hand to be his next meal. Would it be that Sir over there, or the Ma'am with the unclasping bag?

As he slipped through the crowd, something drew him in a certain direction in the crow. He seemed to be gravitating towards a man...A man in a trench coat. But why?

Not good, not good at all.

The face of the man swam before him, a face he knew all too well.

Loaded Dice.

"No sir, you must have me mistaken," The boy said in his sing-song voice.

"Yes, well, you're mistaken I'm afraid," His voice grew shrill, he was moments from shrieking the four syllables that made every adult male unhand him immediately.

Manik Chakor didn't flinch, but stared agape at the nothing. Kneeling down, he swept up the token to examine it.

The boy whirled, on edge. Where had time gone?

"Uh..I, eh..." He stammered, "About thirty four years. Rode in on the train. Walked a bit, stole a bit," A smirk, a shrug. "Come here often?"

"Have you been here longer than me?" He waited for a response, and shuffled a step back. "You can kick me out. I can go elsewhere," With that he shrugged, "Or we could stick together."

A toothy grin.

C'mon.

"Defend yourself alone?" The boy flashed back his fangs, "Or perhaps wait for them to find you, or me, so I can tell them where you are for a meal."

"Who doesn't hear you?" Manik said behind a toothy grin, and darted out of the man's reach.

"So whaddaya say? Pals?" He had picked that lingo up after coming over on the boat.

Manik Chakur flit among the guards, grumbling at the level of security.

He understood the need for precaution, but this was a bit excessive! Never mind, the vampyric thief thought to himself, at least these troops are good company.

And at least they weren't too loud.

Oh, how he wished he didn't have to come this far for a drink. Not like it mattered.

Manik Chakor was here to deliver a letter. He lay low in the corner of the bar, near the doorway, seething at the putrid smells of the other patrons. Deliver the letter, and leave. It didn't take him long to spot his target, the one drinking blood from a wineglass.

Manik almost smiled, as he approached him through the shadows.

Hallo there.

"No," Manik said, without removing his dark eyes from the stranger.

Silently, quickly, he removed something from his robe-like garment. It was a letter, neatly folded, sealed with blood red wax. A giant V blazed off of the back in a generous application of shining ink.

Manik handed it over, the parcel being too thick to contain only one letter.

It was true, but Manik had little time to waste.

Once opened, the letter would reveal itself to be a series of three letters.

The first, handwritten, signed with a looping signature that started with a C. It appeared to be some sort of invitation, friendly.
The second, printed on some sort of press, hand signed and stamped. It read, "The Blood Edict". Farther down the page, on a part you had to unfold to read, was "The Humanity Clause".
The Third, handwritten, but with a lack of formality that indicated it was one of many. It was instructions, half written and half map-esque, on how to get to somewhere presumably. A castle?

"I am to await your response," Manik said, fangs slipping from beneath his lips.
