Another one bites the dust.

0 · 2,026 views · located in Academia Celestia

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Moonscar

Description

1
"The vampire dropped from the roof, right onto an unsuspecting human boy. Her hand wrapped around his mouth, and her fangs sank into his neck. She held him close, thinking only of the blood running along her tongue. When the body went limp, she dropped it onto the ground, and leaned against the wall of the apartment."

2
"One of the monstrous eelheads went for a young brown-haired lad walking down the street, easily swallowing half his body, snapping it in half."

3
"And then he stepped forwards and plunged his sword swiftly in and out of Robin's heart, aiming for a quick death."
-Script

4
"The werecat turned around and made his way back up to the top, only to find Robin ...
... licking the blood?"

-Script

5.
"Robin's reassuring smile only made it worse, but eventually Nairi steeled himself and drew the razor-sharp points down Robin's wrist, a grimace fixed upon his face."
-Script

6
"A body floated into the water, twisted at odd angles, with bones sticking out of flesh. A hat floated past Nairi. Robin's little newsboy cap."

7
"A red dot appeared on Robin's temple. Then his head exploded."

8
"Splat. There may have been no visible end at the top of the stairs, but from the echoing crunch of broken bone, obliterated flesh and destroyed limb. Varyn could hazard a guess that there was indeed an end."
-Gasmask

Nairi's eyes narrowed suspiciously, but he deftly sheathed his sword and slipped forwards towards the source of the voice. He crossed the distance in but a few moments in low leaps and bounds, blindly reaching for an arm or shoulder - something to grab onto and yank the figure towards him.

"Who are you?" he demanded, voice sharp, almost a hiss. "Speak, boy-thing, child-thing. Tell me. No time to waste. Danger here."

A young man looked back at Nairi, a mop of brown bangs in his face, and within them, terror. Not all the fear within those eyes seemed genuine, however.

"...R-Robin! M'names Robin!" he stuttered, one hand on his chest, bleeding heavily, the other on Nairi's wrist. "L-let go! Let go of me! There's things in here! Weird things!"

Nairi stared into Robin's eyes searchingly, before grabbing a fistful of his shirt and focusing. Abruptly, he blinked in recognition, startled. "You. Boy-thing that died. Snapped in half, but then walked clear minutes later. What are you?"

He shook his head dismissively then, "Never mind. Not the time. What things? No, you didn't see, no point asking." the black-cloaked youth turned, warily, on guard for an attack from the oppressive darkness. "Go, leave. Get to safety. This is not a place for prey."

The werecat once more drew his sword, starting to creep onwards again. He paused to cast a glance back at Robin, to make sure the boy was leaving.

"Prey?!" Robin spat, eyes popping open. "I'm not-" The boy stopped, hand grasping at the wound. "You nearly cleaved me in half! You expect me to crawl out of here by myself?"

With no answers, at that!

"Where did you even come from? What...what's up with this place?"

"You startled me." Was Nairi's response to the accusation, because apparently that made it all okay. The werecat paused, crouching a short distance away and tilting his head back towards Robin impassively. His bright gold eyes stood out unnaturally luminously in the darkness. "I came from outside. Even for a human, you are stupid. Where else would I come from?"

He grinned playfully, teasingly, rocking forwards on the balls of his feet precariously, and yet somehow maintaining perfect balance. "I do not know this place. I am here to find out what lurks here. Go or stay, it does not matter. Just don't get in my way."

"So when someone startles you, you cut them?!" the squealed, trying to stem the flow of blood. It's not like it mattered, anyway.

Wincing, the boy took in a breath that they held. Blood made a small puddle at his feet, but that's not what held his attention. It was the thinning darkness around them.

Robin pointed past Nairi. Up.

"Like that?"

Several lights peered down at them from the ceiling, just barely visible. The creaking from the rafters returned. "They're looking at us. You see that?"

Nairi ignored Robin's continued protests about the wound, instead casting his eyes upwards towards the lights. His expression tightened warily and he retook a more guarded, ready stance. "I see." he repeated, casting a brief glance at the bleeding boy. He grimaced.

"Can you walk? Run? You need to leave. Not safe. I have no bandages, can't help. I don't know how." Nairi gestured with his sword in the direction of the exit, "That way. You are no help wounded, human. Just underfoot."

"...I'm sure that's what you think." said the boy, shrugging off his jacket. He pressed it to his chest, and as he ventured further, the mist cleared more.

"Yeah, they're really staring at us," he continued, ignoring Nairi's requests to run. Yeah, two could play at that game. "Don't you see something else up there, too? There's something...big..."

Giving up on trying to get the boy to leave, Nairi returned his attention to the rafters. He stared up searchingly, eyeing the shadowy shape that Robin had pointed out. "Stay." he instructed tersely, sheathing his sword, and without another word, the boy broke into motion. He leaped in a decidedly catlike fashion towards one of the warehouse's crates, vaulting up it in several powerful motions before he pushed off, propelling himself across to land atop another crate.

He rose upon the stacks of crates, nimbly leaping between them like an acrobat, trying to get a better vantage point on the shape. "What are you, shadow-thing?" he murmured to himself thoughtfully, golden eyes gleaming, "How do you play?"

As Nairi made his graceful ascent on the crates, the body moved forward, clumsily climbing onto a thick wooden beam above them. The mist clung to the back of the warehouse, and the moon's light reached through the glass. As the creature walked across the beam, passing the shadow of the wall, then the dim light of the windows over and over again, they would catch glimpses of the horror.

At first, it seemed like a man. Misshapen, hairless, but human. As the mist slithered fully from his form, the grotesque nature of the monster was revealed. His hands were split, like a chameleon's, with four fingers, two on each side of the hand, helping him grip onto the beam. Multiple glowing lights glared at the two below from his back, and oh...

His back.

It was a towering glob of inhumanity. A moving mass of horror. It took Robin a moment or two to really understand what it was, but once it hit him, he began to back up toward the door.

Even the Frankenstein monster would have wretched at the sight of so many beings put together, and not stitched at all. It was as if the flesh of two dozen people had been melted to one another, in no order, nor in any other specific way. They were carelessly stuck onto the mass of this man's back, glued there by some cruel nature. What didn't make things better were the soft moans and whimpers coming from each body.

And the man's face? The worst part- his smile extended past his jaws, nearly to the back of his bulbous, liver-spotted head, revealing more teeth than would be possible, and his eyes were vertical slits in his head, searching.

He crawled until he was right above Nairi, neck twisting around until he was looking at the cat boy upside-down.

"Heeellooooooooooooooooooo."

Disgust and fear crept through Nairi's mind like a poison, and he halted his ascent, freezing in place out of instinct. His back was arched for a moment before he regained himself and sunk back down to a less inhuman pose, crouching defensively and drawing his sword. Whatever this thing was, he was starting to regret coming here.

Even as the creature moved, he remained frozen, indecisive. His mind worked to try and figure out a plan of action, but his eyes were fixed on the grotesque mass of bodies. The werecat met the creature's eyes, golden orbs gleaming defiantly, but with a definite edge of fear to them that was difficult to disguise.

The man - or, the part of him that still vaguely resembled a man - spoke, and Nairi moved. His tensed form sprung upwards like a catapult, and he leaped into the air to an almost unbelievable height. He swung the black crescent blade viciously at the creature's throat, trying to put an end to the thing with one swift strike.

With all its sluggish movements and unbalanced distribution of weight, the creature had not lived as long as it had on luck. One strike was not going to be enough to silence it.

He shifted his weight, just a bit, so that his back was to the strike. The blade would strike at the flesh of what appeared to be an older woman, who shuddered and cried as she was struck. The man crawled around the beam, getting ready to hop down, even as the injured woman bled out.

"Naughty, naughty. Naughty naughty! Naughty boys should receive puuuunishments."

Robin had his back to the door, eyes wide in real horror this time. "Stop it, you, stop it!" he cried to Nairi. "Those are people!"

"You think they will live?" Nairi snapped back as he landed gracefully back onto the crate he had leaped from, "No. Look at them. They are already gone. Unless we kill the flesh-thing more will join them."

Not that Nairi was exactly confident that he could kill this thing. Judging by its size, and the number of people absorbed into it, it wasn't exactly a pushover. The sword would be unreliable, more of a liability than an asset - more likely to strike the human shields. He sheathed the weapon, tucking it away beneath his cloak, before instead baring his claws. Razor-sharp, they jutted out from his fingers like knives - unsheathing themselves like those of a cat.

He should leave, he thought. He had come here for information, not to risk his life fighting a monstrous creature. But he was confident that he could make his exit if things turned unpleasant. He'd see how dangerous this thing really was, first. Crouching on all fours like a feral creature, Nairi stared down the man-beast, ready to spring.

"...I don't know," mumbled Robin. But he couldn't imagine that. A life being stuck to that thing? "You think...you think...it's really hopeless?" he asked Nairi. When the cat boy crouched after putting away his sword, Robin panicked.

"What are you gonna do? What are you gonna try to do?" they squealed. They looked up at the...the thing...

It had since hopped down onto a staircase of crates, making his way down confidently. His weight swayed from one side to the other, arms and legs flailing in the air like a perverse cheer.

It took a moment for Nairi to reconsider his plan.

His first assumption had been that there was some sort of absorption process the creature performed. Maybe swallowing the people whole. But Robin's words made him very much aware of an alternative possibility. What if things just stuck to it?

The werecat put his claws away, and re-drew his sword. "Bad plans," he muttered, "Stupid, stupid."

He narrowed his eyes, and in a flash, broke into a sprint. He darted forwards, leaping upwards to ascend the staircase of crates towards the creature. Just as he was seemingly about to swing for the man's neck again, he dropped into a slide. His sword slashed towards the creature's leg, aiming to hack through its hamstring and cripple it. His momentum carried him skidding past and over the edge of the crates.

It was a long fall to the floor of the warehouse, and at first it seemed like Nairi might have made a dreadful mistake. But the werecat landed in a graceful crouch, unharmed. He stared back up at the monstrous form for a few moments before he slipped backwards into the shadows, and seemingly vanished completely.

"Yeah, well, at least give me the chance to be the one to say it!" said Robin, trying to introduce a little humor into this...situation.

"We should go, shouldn't we? We should just go!" he advised, about to break for a run, despite his loss of blood. But no, Nairi had to be some kind of hero...or something. The man drew closer, galloping towards them with a bizarre speed for the size of his body. He teetered to the side as he ran, and when Nairi slashed, he moved his weight once more to put his meat shield in the way. What he did not account for was the second attack.

With his back leg sliced, the monster let out a snarl. The foot was picked up, but the weight was much more unbalanced than before. Despite this, it hopped down from the crates, nearly rolling, before getting back onto its three remaining limbs. Not that it was going to stop there. Two extra bodies, especially two snooping around the warehouse, was a bigger plus than the loss of use for one limb.

Here, the monster reached for Nairi, advancing like a wave. The arms from its back were sucked into his body, only to sprout out from the front, unnaturally long, with more than four segments to each, reaching for Nairi again."Not getting...away...not getting...away from...from Gou...lashhhh."

He skidded to a halt when he found the lad had disappeared. He looked around wildly, trying to find the position of the boy. "Where is it...whereisit! WHEEEERE IIIS it!?" he screamed. He skittered all the way around, until his eyes came to Robin.

The boy gulped. "THEEERE!" the creature cried, galloping toward the boy, who began his slow race away from the warehouse.

"Go away! No!"

In reality, however, Nairi hadn't left at all. Drawing his cloak about himself, the enchantment upon it had rendered him utterly undetectable amongst the shadows, even as he slipped across the room, always keeping to the dark.

When the bulbous creature began to lope towards Robin, the werecat had pounced. There would be but a moment's warning as the black-haired youth seemingly rose from the shadows mere feet away from the creature halfway towards the door, and thrust his sword forcefully at its heart, using his own momentum to strengthen the blow. He fell back afterwards, wrenching the black blade free with a twist and darting back a few steps, fearing the potential to be sucked into the pulsating growth upon the thing's body.

Robin had tripped, of course, just before the monster had gotten to him. Getting up after landing flat on his face, he looked back at Nairi and Goulash, blinking in surprise.

The thing spluttered and wheezed one last breath before falling to the ground, an arm outstretched. The whole body shuddered one last time before becoming still.

"...nooo." it whispered.

Robin stood up, jacket squeezed to his chest, as he looked at the dead concoction of bodies. "...that quick, huh?"

"Big things die as easy as small things if you hit them in the right place, human." Nairi stated, though he was staring at the fallen creature suspiciously, as though expecting it to start moving again. Finally, he turned in his crouching stance to face Robin, scowling. "Go stop bleeding." he said, waving his free hand, "Not done here. You need to get fixed. I will find you later, for speaking."

For all his apparent lack of care, Nairi seemed not to want to have to deal with Robin dying on him. Because technically he'd be the one that had killed him. The werecat's golden eyes were difficult to read, the emotion behind them largely imperceptible beneath a layer of muted hostility against any intrusion into his affairs.

Robin neared the corpse, if a bit warily, moving around it slowly. Even the people attached to its form had gone limp.

"I'll stop...bleeding later..." mumbled Robin, taking another step toward the thing. He reached out, fingers going toward what looked like a flap of skin.

"...man, wouldn't this be interesting to dissect? Or really scary. I wonder what a cutter would think of something like this-" He let his fingers slide down the skin flap, which seemed to be the remnants of someone's stomach.

"...uh...oops. Um." A short pause, a pull. "Hey. Hey. Can, uh. I. I'm stuck."

Robin's fingers had fused to the skin.
