Another one bites the dust.

0 · 2,030 views · located in Academia Celestia

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Moonscar

Description

1
"The vampire dropped from the roof, right onto an unsuspecting human boy. Her hand wrapped around his mouth, and her fangs sank into his neck. She held him close, thinking only of the blood running along her tongue. When the body went limp, she dropped it onto the ground, and leaned against the wall of the apartment."

2
"One of the monstrous eelheads went for a young brown-haired lad walking down the street, easily swallowing half his body, snapping it in half."

3
"And then he stepped forwards and plunged his sword swiftly in and out of Robin's heart, aiming for a quick death."
-Script

4
"The werecat turned around and made his way back up to the top, only to find Robin ...
... licking the blood?"

-Script

5.
"Robin's reassuring smile only made it worse, but eventually Nairi steeled himself and drew the razor-sharp points down Robin's wrist, a grimace fixed upon his face."
-Script

6
"A body floated into the water, twisted at odd angles, with bones sticking out of flesh. A hat floated past Nairi. Robin's little newsboy cap."

7
"A red dot appeared on Robin's temple. Then his head exploded."

8
"Splat. There may have been no visible end at the top of the stairs, but from the echoing crunch of broken bone, obliterated flesh and destroyed limb. Varyn could hazard a guess that there was indeed an end."
-Gasmask

"I think you're wrong about that," said Robin. "Humans, that is. They do just as much good as they do bad. There's so many humans that try to do the right thing. A lot of them just don't succeed as much. It's easier to do evil than it is to do good. It's not just a human thing; that goes for anything ever."

He turned his head to look up at Nairi, smiling. "You wouldn't take my word for it, but I wouldn't do anything to exploit anything you said to me. I'll be more truthful; it's not a personal thing. It's just something I wouldn't do. You have a trust problem though. That much is evident."

"Hrmph." Nairi huffed discontentedly, but with less aggression than had tinged his voice earlier. "Not a trust problem. A problem would be being blindly trusting. I work with people you don't trust. Not if you want to keep your head. I'd be dead if I wasn't expecting backstabs when they came."

He glanced away, shrugging. "Humans cling to control to compensate for being weak. Try to control what they don't understand, or what they fear." he mumbled, but it was only a half-hearted continuation of the argument. He'd had enough dealings with humans to know that they weren't all the kind of people that had caged him, but equally, there'd been a lot of unpleasant people in other ways.

"You're naive. Foolish." Nairi stated, "Not surprised you die a lot."

"I don't have a lot of reason not to be, huh?" chuckled Robin. He waggled his feet. "When you really can't die, you can be as foolish and naive and carefree as you want. Well, almost." He propped himself up onto his elbows.

"I don't suspect you have a lot of friends?"

"No." Nairi replied, tersely. "Never. None."

And that was the sad truth, though the werecat didn't see it that way. To him, 'friends' were tools to be used against you that offered very little benefit in return. The closest to a 'friend' he'd had, had been Ethel, and even that hadn't been by choice, or quite a traditional friendship. They hadn't been equals, not in her eyes.

He gave Robin a slightly uncomfortable glance, still pressing his chin into his knees. "Liability." he added with a mutter.

"...yeah, tell me about it." replied Robin. "I'm in the same boat."

He let a small silence pass, with only his boots thumping softly against one another, before he spoke again. "You afraid people'll hurt 'em, right?"

"Afraid? No. Just practical." Nairi shrugged moodily, "Never had any, so I'm not missing anything. People come and go. Travel, die, change. They're unreliable. Can only rely on myself."

He looked away again, staring across the street. "Besides, no chances. Don't meet that sort of person. Friend-people. Not for long."

Robin was just too pleased. "You think you're not missing anything, but it's kind of obvious that you are." He aimed his eyes down to the horizon. "It can be nice, you know." He looked back, again, at Nairi. A big grin spread across his face.

"You know?"

Nairi's eyes swept back across to Robin sharply, expression defensive. "Not." he repeated, scowling and stuffing his face further into his legs. "No. Don't know." he added, "Stop grinning. Looks stupid."

The werecat was quite plainly pouting, now, for all his supposed dignity.

He did not stop, though. Not for a second.

"You really don't, huh? You can't catch a hint, either! You see? You're missing out on a whole world that you thought you were better off not knowing."

Golden eyes remained set on Robin, seeming more searching than angry despite the scowl above them. "Why do you care?" he challenged, "Not your business. Not your problem. You don't know me, so why are you bothered?"

He tightened his position, gripping his legs to retract even further into a curled up, upright ball.

"It's only human-" Robin folded his legs, then placed his hands in his lap. "To feel concern, you know. I'm not exactly human anymore, and you're not really human, either, but I'm sure you do some things for more reason than it's interesting and its useful to me. I dunno, maybe I'm being stupid, huh?"

Nairi shrugged again. "Not human at all." he mumbled, though he couldn't really say that with certainty. For all he knew he might have become a werecat as a young child rather than been born one. Equally, he might have started life as a cat. That was the thing. He didn't know.

"Some things." he said finally, "My things. Not friend things. They're different. Don't know."

He realised belatedly that he wasn't making much sense, growling and flopping his head back against the side of the building to stare up at the night sky. "Most humans don't care. Just want job done. They have their things, their attachments. Stick with them, with their comfort zone, don't need new ones."

Robin scooted closer to Nairi. "Is that really what you've observed, or what you want to observe?" he asked. "Is that something you keep telling yourself?" He stared at the werecat until he got his answer. "Because of that liability?"

The werecat shot Robin a wary glance as he moved closer, scowling again. "People I work with most don't deal in friends." he stated, "Not good people. Others, not-bad people, count me as the same, so don't care."

Nairi shrugged minutely, "Me neither. Don't care. Don't need people." he muttered. "And no. I'm not deluded. Stupid."

"You've certainly had to of met enough people to know otherwise, or so I'd of thought. Perhaps not!" Robin rolled up onto his feet, a letting his smile tighten. He moved to pat Nairi on the shoulder. "Either way! I probably should be getting out of here. After what I saw in there, I'm not fond of staying through the night in case something much more unpleasant and painful comes skittering this way."

Nairi flinched slightly at the contact, tightening his grip on his legs. He looked up at Robin for several moments before his head dropped, and he nodded. "Yes. Right idea. Should have moved already. Not a good place." he stated, rising to his feet.

He tucked his arms away beneath his cloak, pulling it around himself like a blanket. "Where?" he asked, "You said you had no home." The werecat's tone was difficult to read, his expression sharp but with an inquisitive edge.

"No idea!" chirped Robin. "Anywhere far from here! I'm not even tired yet, so I guess I'll just wander around. Find some odd jobs...or maybe get into trouble again!"

He was far too happy about his situation, which, while not terrible, wasn't exactly good, either. "What about you? Where will you go?"

"Have a place." Nairi said, shrugging. "Small. Nearby. Don't use it all the time."

Given how easy it was for him to find somewhere comfortable in his other form, Nairi's little apartment really didn't see a lot of use outside of storage. It was more of a safehouse than a home. "Might go there. Might carry on investigating."

He gave Robin a thoughtful glance for a moment before turning away, grimacing indecisively.

Robin waved back. "Alright. Maybe we'll meet up again, sometime! It's a small world." He tipped his hat. "G'bye, Seeker."

With his hands in his pockets, he turned the other way, and began to walk off.

"Wait!"

Nairi's voice cut sharply through the air as Robin turned away, and he immediately bit his tongue, hesitating. His expression was set in a conflicted frown. "I don't use my place much. Has space. Being wasted. You could... If you wanted to-"

He shrugged, looking away. "Probably stupid idea. But the offer's there."
