Scarlet Dae strolled into the bar, a cheerful smile upon her face and a brightness to her eyes that betrayed a positively wonderful temperament. The young woman's bleach blonde hair draped over the top of her long and flowing crimson cloak, the tip of which flowed out a foot or so from her ankles, clad in sturdy scarlet boots.

The mage walked her way across the flooring with a spring in her step, slowly twirling her small stave in one hand as she went and delivering a happy grin to any patrons she caught the eye of as she surveyed them. Approaching the counter, Scarlet leant upon it idly and waved over a bartender of some sort.

"A Corsair, if you would, sir! Or if you don't know what that is, a simple shot of whiskey will do." she said cheerily.

Scarlet Dae tipped her hat in thanks to Miles, offering the obviously nervous man a smile. "Thank you kindly, sir." she said, shifting a stray lock of hair as she took a sip of her drink. Noting the man's swift departure from the serving position, Scarlet chuckled, wandering over to where he now stood.

"First day on the job, am I right?" she queried, a reassuringly friendly smile upon her features as she spoke. Scarlet's entire demeanour quietly inspired confidence, her manner of holding was extremely casual and relaxed, it often seemed that she would take little at all negative to heart, and that passing judgement was an entirely alien concept to her.

Scarlet Dae laughed lightly at Miles' words, grinning in a somewhat rebellious fashion, almost conspiratorially. "Oh I see! Well, I won't tell if you don't, and the gesture is much appreciated. You considered applying for a job, mind? You seem to be in your element, if I might be so bold." she suggested, raising an eyebrow slightly.

Scarlet waved her hands around at the interior of the bar somewhat vaguely, "It's certainly not a shabby place. Seems like if you can get a foot in here, it'd be a good prospect." she added, taking another sip of her drink. "Mind, competition is likely fierce, for such a - how shall I put it - 'well equipped' place as this."

Scarlet Dae chuckled. "I'm not that familiar with it myself, I spend the majority of my time a few miles from the city. I work in the line of magical education, see - my Academia is to the East of the City." she explained. "However, I do know enough from conversations with students that spend a lot of time in these parts, that Gambit's is 'the' place to be."

Smiling, Scarlet shrugged "I'm sure that given the amount of traffic the place receives, it should have a good number of opening for employment." she pointed out.

Scarlet Dae glanced at her watch, and frowned. "Hm, I really ought to be going." she murmured. "Many apologies, sir, but one of my students has requested a rather urgent appointment with me, that I really would be a bitch to miss."

With a final smile, Scarlet swept about where she stood and began to pace toward the door, swinging her short staff around in an arc before her as she went. Immediately before her, a shimmering portal burst into being, and the mage vanished within.

Scarlet Dae limped into the bar, her normally confident stride impeded by the pair of crutches that now supported her movement. Numerous wounds and slashes adorned the mage's body, most prominently a thick wrapping of bandages about her side, though they were not visible beneath her clothing.

The woman's normally cheery demeanour was somewhat quelled too, as could only be expected. Her pride and joy, her home, her academy lay practically in ruins, two thirds of her teaching staff wiped out, and a number of her students dead. This was not a proud day for the Red Angel. Not a proud day at all.

Scarlet Dae approached the counter, her crutches tapping rhythmically on the wooden floor as she moved along. Her eyes were hard and cold, focusing only on the floor ahead before she reached the counter itself and leant forwards upon it. "Whiskey, please." she said simply to the tender.

At Juoram's words, the mage's eyes flicked to him. "What do you want with these individuals?" she queried, trying to get his attention with a slightly raised voice.

Scarlet Dae limped into the bar, her normally confident gait decidedly repressed by the fact that she was forced to carry herself upon a pair of crutches, clicking against the wooden floor rhythmically as she moved, a constant irritation to her. The normal cheerful smile was missing also from the mage's face, replaced with a furrowed brow, her mind obviously plagued by worry and doubt.

The woman approached the bar counter, nodding her head to the bartender once. "Whiskey, please." she said simply, before attempting to slide herself onto one of the stools, wincing as the wound in her side was strained by the motion, the whole affair something of a comical display as she attempted to avoid putting to much weight on her legs.

There had been better weekends.

Scarlet Dae frowned, lifting her head from the drink before her as she felt some form of magical pulse within the room. Turning her head toward where she had sensed it, she laid eyes upon a decidedly dishevelled appearing man... woman? No, definitely a man. Deciding that simply sitting at the bar counter was going to do her no good whatsoever, the mage shuffled her way off of the stool (an equally comical display to that which had come to pass upon her mounting of it), and eventually got to her feet again.

Making her slow way over to Kei, Scarlet frowned. "Evening." she said, "If I may be so bold, you're looking somewhat less than hearty." she commented, "Might I ask what is wrong?"

Scarlet Dae sighed wistfully. "A title that I am unsure I deserve, I am afraid." she murmured, shaking her head. "I... no, 'tis of no matter in the present situation. I take it my reputation has preceded me, for I do not believe that we are acquainted?" she posed, shifting on the crutches.

"What is ailing you, my dear? Some sort of illness, or something more sinister?" she queried, frowning further. "You are in something of a state, even on a spiritual level."

Scarlet Dae smiled faintly "Nice to meet you, Kei." she said, "And please, call me Scarlet." she added as she sat across from him, adjusting her cloak slightly and leaning her crutches on the table. Leaning forwards to peer at him, Scarlet frowned again. "Forgive me, but you seem rather damaged as far as most illnesses I know of go. What is the cause, if I might ask?"

Leaning back, the mage raised an eyebrow "Do tell me if I am being too intrusive, mind."

Scarlet Dae frowned further, placing a hand upon her chin ponderously. "I see, I see..." she murmured, "And is there nothing you, or someone else, can do about it?" she asked, her tone concerned. It was a rare stranger that threw herself at the problems of others with such enthusiasm as Scarlet, but it was perhaps this that had earned her the respect that she had amongst the magical community. Perhaps -- mages were a self centred lot quite often.

On Iante's arrival, Scarlet looked to him with a nod. "Evening." she said, offering a smile "No need for apologies, we've only just met. I'm Scarlet, Scarlet Dae." she said, leaving out the titles and honorifics that quite frankly bored her to recite.

Scarlet Dae grinned broadly, "Well, I just take that as a challenge, my dear. 'Never been tried before', 'Impossible' - those words just spell 'a fun day out' for me." she said, laughing lightly. The woman leant forwards again, adjusting her hat.

"I'm going to need info on just what I'm dealing with here. I can't just poke at you with a metaphorical stick till I uncover the issue, I need background and context. Brief me, go go go." she said, her previous somewhat mournful demeanour fading as she got caught up in the enthusiasm of the challenge.

Scarlet Dae took the stone with a curious frown, rolling it over in her hands for a few moments. "Hmmm..." she murmured, holding it up to the light, peering at it for a few moments longer, and again murmuring; "Hmmm..."

Now, the woman's hand began to glow softly with a purplish light, enveloping it for a few seconds, fluctuating over its surface. "Hmmmm..." she said once again. Beginning to sense a pattern? Me too...

Scarlet Dae paused in her investigations, glancing up at Kei. "Well, long story short, and I'm sure you already know this, there is a connection between this object and you, involving your soul and life force and etcetera etcetera. It seems to be acting in a manner similar to some sort of parasite... breaking it would definitely snuff you out like a candle, though."

The mage seemed to think for a few moments longer, smiling amusedly at Iante before clicking her tongue. "One idea that seems plausible is to slash the connection between you and it. That might -- might stop it from sucking all your stuff out, and then allow the energy to be returned to you..."

Here the mage paused, leaning forwards slightly. "Here's the catch, though. Doing that would make the orb break, and the energy within would have to be manually redirected back to you. It'd be a risky op, I warn you. It's unpredictable energies, I haven't worked explicitly with this sort before... I believe I could manage it, though, if you're willing."

Scarlet Dae leant back. "I believe that I can pull it off. I've tried riskier things and succeeded, and I'm well practised in the field of 'The book says you shouldn't do this, but it might just work'. I'm not sure what other options you could find, at least regarding a long term solution." she said, frowning.

"It's up to you, dear. I understand it's hard to put your life in the hands of a stranger, even one as well reputed as I."

Scarlet Dae nodded her head, "I certainly shall. This will be a surprisingly quick process for the magnitude of the situation, and possibly seem a little anti-climatic in the process, though no doubt I'll be the only one bothered by that at all. It'll take no longer than a few seconds."

Scarlet took the orb in one hand, staring at it intently. "Are you ready, or do you want a moment... in case..."

The mage didn't want to say it, but 'in case I fail' hung upon the air plain for all to hear in their mind's ear.

Scarlet Dae nodded. "I'll do it." she said, confidence evident in her voice. If she didn't have confidence that she could do it, she couldn't expect the other two to.

"Here we go then." she said simply, before gazing down at the orb once more. The mage's eyes began to glow with a bright purple light, initially simply highlighting her irises, but eventually enveloping them, her entire eye becoming a purplish-pink glow. The woman raised her hand, the fingertips of it glowing similarly, and then abruptly slashed it down between Kei and the orb, severing the invisible link.

From the orb there then came a bright radiance, filling it before it shattered, causing Scarlet to flinch slightly as the shards scattered. The woman did not pause, however, her hands coming up to wrap themselves around the rapidly expanding cloud of energy that the orb had released, preventing it from escaping off into the world, moulding it in her hands. -c-

Scarlet Dae then, with a flick of her wrists, directed it in a funnel towards Kei, where it impacted with the man's chest and seeped through, the entire process lasting no more than a few seconds before abruptly, all the energy had vanished into him, and it was over.

Jerking backwards, her eyes returning to their normal state, Scarlet blinked. "Well. I think that's worked..."

Scarlet Dae looked far too relieved. Far too relieved, in the sense that it gave the impression that for a moment, she hadn't been sure that it would work.
