  • Height: 4'10''

Personality
Valorie is a quirky megalomaniac of a girl with a penchant for beauty and showboating. She isn't a very modest person; she loves when her ego is stroked and puts a lot of weight into things like her appearance and others thoughts' of her. She is also a sore loser. This all stems back to how much weight she puts into the thoughts of others. Valorie is deeply motivated by a desire to earn the respect and admiration of her peers. She pushes herself hard and expects the same of her pokemon, following in the steps of legendary trainers by fighting alongside her pokemon rather than standing back and letting them do all of the work. While Valorie is 25 years old and full of 25 years worth of life experience she has not physically or mentally aged past the age of 14. This presents an odd duality where she is mature emotionally, but immature in most other ways. Valorie has a love-hate relationship with her immortality. On one hand, she's pretty happy with her body and not worrying about age-related health issues including death is a welcome concept. On the other--everything else.

Valorie is a rather affectionate individual, however, she doesn't like to be thought of as such and usually reacts with embarrassment if given affection in public. It also takes her time to warm up to someone before she will consider giving any affection of her own. Although she is quite competitive, this only extends to pokemon battles and beauty. When confronted with the possibility of physical harm to herself Valorie suffers from cowardice and she has a fairly low threshold for pain. She dreams of becoming the most renowned battling trainer in the world and of becoming a dragon master comparable to her idol, Lance.

Backstory
Born and raised in Iccirus City, Unova, Valorie obtained her first pokemon, Charmander, from her father at the tail end of a business trip in Kanto. She obtained her dratini as an egg from a mysterious dragon type specialistic whom did not have the time to raise her himself. She trained hard, but was unable to beat Iccirus City Gym. Distraught, she signed up for the Pokemon Trainer's Academy on Oak Island to better herself studying and training hard during her time there.

A couple of years later, after having left the academy to pursue her dreams, Valorie became involved in a massive 'gang war' between several criminal teams. She became involved with one of these teams, specifically a vigilante group dedicated to thwarting the other team's plans. During this time she succumbed to stealing pokemon from the rival trainers to bolster her numbers. She stole several pokemon, primarily from trainers of less than stellar morality. One fateful evenin Valorie was killed in battle, the cause of which being suffocation in the midst of a raging sandstorm. She was brought back from beyond the brink of death, however, by Cresselia, who she had played a pivotal role in freeing from one of the rival gangs that meant to use her as a weapon. Cresselia used all of her power to bring Valorie back, becoming one with Valorie in the process. This was done not just to save Valorie's life, but to keep her pokemon from going their separate ways. This is the point at which Valorie gained her immortality and other supernatural traits, trapping her at the age at which she died, 14.

After the war had ended Valorie resumed chasing her dreams, however, she was now burdened by the reality that she still wasn't strong enough to achieve them even after everything she had gone through. Valorie chased her dreams for years until she was "technically" an adult. At this point, she had to go through the trouble of getting an adult ID, which was only a problem because she had difficulty convincing anyone she wasn't trying to fake her age. After she became legally recognized as an adult she made the mistake of beginning to drink and developed a drinking problem, compounded by all of her self-loathing on account of her still having yet to achieve anything close to her original dreams. Valorie made the effort to quit drinking cold turkey, however, after her fighting spirit was revitalized.

Cresselia's Inheritance
Valorie absorbed what remained of Cresselia's soul after the legendary pokemon's death, inheriting a bit of her leftover power. The two souls are now one in the same body, sharing a symbiotic relationship.
  • Valorie is incapable of aging, even if forced by magical means.
  • A divine force, specifically Cresselia's, protects Valorie's soul from being stolen or harmed.
  • Valorie resists killing blows, meaning that she will miraculously manage to survive all but the most immediately fatal of blows.
  • Valorie occasionally demonstrates a split personality, the other personality, of course, being Cresselia's.
  • Valorie's dreams are often lucid and prophetic, occasionally even being relevant to her life.
  • Valorie's eyes glow with the colors of the northern lights shimmering beneath their surfaces. The glow is strong enough to dimly illuminate a couple of feet in front of her face. Anyone staring into Valorie's eyes will experience both a relaxing effect and a healing effect. The relaxing effect encourages a positive state of mind and helps one sleep. The healing effect can slowly heal most wounds and cure even the most persistent of diseases by supercharging the body's natural healing abilities. However, this effect does not work on Valorie herself.
  • Anti-Magic has no effect on the above abilities because they are fueled by Valorie's own power, rather than any latent power she could be disconnected from.

Amni's symbiosis
Valorie and Amni the Reuniclus share a powerful neurological bond
  • Valorie is capable of communicating through telepathy with Amni and vice versa, even over long distances.
  • Valorie is capable of reading Amni's emotions and vice versa, even over long distances. This includes the ability to perceive things like pain and other physical sensations.
  • Valorie and Amni can sense each other's life force well enough to always have an idea of where the other is, down to the direction.

Battle Pokemon
  • Dragonite ♀ (Power Level ≈ ??? / 100) [Moves = Hurricane, Twister, Dragon Claw, Superpower, Roost, Dragon Dance]
Valorie's dragonite is giant, standing at 12'1'' and being over twice the weight of your average dragonite. It goes almost without saying that this has a significant effect on her abilities in combat. (Consider her effective base stats 100 HP / 165 Attack / 115 Defense / 110 Special Attack / 110 Special Defense / 70 Speed). She's actually a big baby however, viewing Valorie as her mother and being quite clingy. The other pokemon don't have the heart to correct her. She has the ability multiscale.
  • Haxorus ♀ (Power Level ≈ ??? / 100) [Moves = Outrage, Earthquake, Poison Jab, Dragon Dance, Dragon Claw, Guillotine]
Haxorus is a hunter who becomes stir crazy when she isn't allowed to roam at least once a day. She refuses to eat normal food and compulsively seeks out challenging prey, particularly other females. She has the ability rivalry.
  • Charizard ♀ (Power Level ≈ 65 / 100) [Moves = Dragon Claw, Will-O-Wisp, Flare Blitz, Belly Drum, Mimic, Roost]
Charizard is the angsty older sister of Valorie's team, having been starved for attention in favor of Valorie's other pokemon before she fully evolved. She has a fiery temper and is jealous of the attention Valorie's dragonite gets. In spite of this, she is also Valorie's wisest pokemon. Valorie has been attempting to get Charizard to Mega Evolve for years without success.
  • Rex the Tyrantrum ♂ (Power Level ≈ 65 / 100) [Moves = Crunch, Head Smash, Dragon Tail, Aerial Ace, Hone Claws, Rock Polish]
Rex is a proud, grumpy old timer of a pokemon. Constantly living in the past, he thinks very highly of himself and looks down on pokemon who don't stack up to his impressive 9'2'' feet (2.794 meters) height. He does not like the idea that other pokemon are stronger than him and will frequently antagonize any pokemon that annoys him until they fight him. Rex is not a pokemon who learns his lesson and to that end Valorie has done her best to help him realize his dreams of being the most fearsome pokemon around. Rex is one of the pokemon Valorie stole as mentioned in her backstory.
  • Flygon ♀ (Power Level ≈ 65 / 100) [Moves = Outrage, Earthquake, U-Turn, Defog, Iron Tail, Earth Power]
Flygon is an approval-seeking pokemon, having a somewhat dog-like disposition towards others. Nowhere is this more apparent than with her tendency to greet Valorie with friendly licks. She is one of Valorie's most loyal pokemon in the sense that she is the least likely to question any order she is given. Flygon has the ability 'sand stream' instead of levitate, meaning she can passively summon sandstorms during battle. Flygon is one of the pokemon Valorie stole as mentioned in her backstory.
  • Hydreigon ♀ (Power Level ≈ 65 / 100) [Moves = Draco Meteor, Dark Pulse, Tailwind, Earth Power, Flash Cannon, Taunt]
Hydreigon is a voracious monster whose presence can only be described as... intense. She has a tendency to bite anything that isn't Valorie and has a very volatile disposition, so she isn't often let out of her ball around strangers unless her brutal nature is needed. Hydreigon is one of the pokemon Valorie stole as mentioned in her backstory.

Off-Hand Pokemon
  • Shu the Yamask ♂ (Power Level ≈ 20 / 100) [Moves = Night Shade, Telekinesis, Destiny Bond, Disable, Heal Block, Protect]
Shu is an odd case of a telepathic yamask. He actually asked Valorie to protect him from having to fight and, in turn, lent her his psychic aid. He is very old, his life before undeath having predated modern society. While he rarely raises a hand to harm another, he occasionally helps others fight with a supporting role. Personality-wise, Shu is a very snarky individual. As a very old pokemon that used to be a human before his death, he often finds himself frustrated by modern culture.
  • Kiyoko the Zoruark ♂ (Power Level ≈ 55 / 100) [Moves = Detect, Double Team, Aura Sphere, Iron Defense, Night Daze, Snarl]
Kiyoko is a pokemon anomaly, a zoroark filled with power of aura. This is a result of him being the subject of experimentation as a child. He's a rather reclusive pokemon, generally preferring not to be surrounded by others.
  • Gyarados ♂ (Power Level ≈ 35 / 100) [Moves = Hyper Beam, Ice Beam, Surf, Waterfall, Whirlpool, Dive]
Gyarados' personality and quirks remain unrevealed, being a recent catch.
  • Doublade ♀ (Power Level ≈ 60 / 100) [Moves = Autotomize, Sacred Sword, Shadow Sneak, Swords Dance, Head Smash, Toxic]
Originally caught as a consequence of Valorie foolhardily grabbing her hilt. However, when she did not die and Doublade, as a Honedge, would not let go of her in turn they grew to become partners.
  • Goodra ♀ (Power Level ≈ 60 / 100) [Moves = Infestation, Sludge Wave, Thunder, Rain Dance, Toxic, Double Team]
Goodra is... not a very smart pokemon. Silly and energetic, she enjoys playing around more than she does battling.
  • Nathan the Rayquaza ♂ (Power Level ≈ 70 / 100) [Moves = Outrage, Dragon Pulse, Extremespeed, Hyper Beam]
  • Evrir the Zoroark ♀ (Power Level ≈ 81 / 100) [Moves = Night Daze, Hidden Power, Flamethrower, Calm Mind]
  • Belana the Lugia ♀ (Power Level ≈ 70 / 100) [Moves = Aeroblast, Recover, Psychic, Sky Attack]
  • Amni the Reuniclus ♂ (Power Level ≈ 77 / 100) [Moves = Acid Armor, Calm Mind, Psyshock, Focus Blast, Recover, Telekinesis]

hesitated for a moment, her mind drawing a blank. Someone was... calling her attention. The voice was female and she quickly identified it as someone of relative youth. Age... Why did she always have to think about age? Immediately he became frustrated, but the angry emotions quickly in something between bitterness and hopelessness. She stopped where she stood and turned to face Jennifer, the norther lights dancing in her irises. Jennifer would immediately feel a strange, pleasant feeling if she so much as met Valorie's gaze for a moment. The smaller girl had a mildly frustrated, but otherwise unreadable expression on her face. "...Hi--My name's Valorie." she said in a deflated tone.

Jennifer Harsdorff was probably a few years older than Valorie--but only a few. "Hey, what's with the flat tire? You gotta enjoy life, yeah? And I'm enjoying life in this new area...so much to see and do! The shopping! I can finally dress in something cooler than coveralls! C'mon, let's go!" She wasn't going to drag Valorie behind her, if only out of respect for personal space.

Valorie Ryder didn't seem to be amused with Jennifer's own enthusiasm. Her expression only deflated further and she averted her eyes. On one hand, screw like... everything. She was not a happy person and she was completely unconvinced that anything would ever change that. Her pokemon had failed her--Or perhaps she had failed her pokemon. The point was, everything she had fought for had crashed and burned in front of her, crushed under the incredible weight of the competitive battling world's boot. ...And this girl wanted her to be happy? Yeah, fat chance! The mere notion that Jennifer could help only made Valorie more cynical about the situation.

It was unfortunate... That Valorie could ease the pain in everyone's hearts but her own was nothing short of Arceus himself taunting her.

On the other hand though, did she really have anything better to do? Valorie stood there for a moment as if expecting Jennifer to stop, come back, and explain herself. After a moment however she gave up and reluctantly followed the other female in pursuit of... amusement, she guessed.

Jennifer took Valorie on nothing less than a whirlwind tour of accessorizing and general dressing-up. Shopping sprees always made girls her age feel just a little bit better, even in the face of an existential crisis. After a good 2 hours of maxing out credit cards, she plopped down on a food court bench. "Where's that twinkle in a young girl's eye, honey? Did he dump you or something?" Her enthusiasm had been replaced by wariness after watching her expression for most of the journey. If she wouldn't open up to her after this, she couldn't afford a Plan B!

Valorie Ryder followed along with Jennifer, eyeing clothes but buying nothing. In all frankness, she personally found her outfit amazing and no longer had a steady supply of money due to an unfortunate addiction. The accusation that she had been dumped by a boy seemed to catch her attention though. Her head raised a bit and she looked narrowed her eyes slightly an an unseen foe, silently trying to take a stab at why Jennifer would've assumed such a thing. My, might it be your awful attitude, Valorie? After a moment she seemed to deam that this had not been an insult and her expression resumed being deflated. When she spoke, this time her tone was more apathetic. "I never had a boyfriend..." she admitted, shaking her head lightly. "I don't need one." she continued, somewhat adamantly in tone. I'm sorry... what? For someone who seemed to have such a broken spirit she sure hated the idea of relying on someone else, or perhaps it was something more..? Valorie's gaze rose to meet Jennifer's after she finished, this time holding there.

Jennifer Harsdorff seemed a bit more concerned, her expression getting dragged to Valorie's level of dour resignation. "All these cute winter clothes and your eyes don't even light up. There's something very wrong. You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, but I'm gonna do my best to help or my name's not Jennifer."

Valorie Ryder actually seemed... saddened by Jennifer's offer. On one hand, she wasn't inclined to believe Jennifer was mocking her. On the other she felt absolutely no hope for the situation and found herself wishing she could see otherwise. She definitely didn't want to shun others, but at the same time she lacked the drive to fight for what she did want--Respect, admiration. ...Love. Valorie held her gaze against Jennifer's. For how beautiful her eyes were she couldn't help but note they didn't seem to be calming Jennifer. Now what was that about? Meeting her gaze could banish concerns from the mind far more pervasive than what she would expect from a stranger, nevermind a same-sex stranger of her age. She honestly didn't know what to make of it, but an ethereal voice told her that perhaps Jennifer cared a lot more than she originally thought. "...Why?" Valorie asked, somewhat curious. Perhaps she was a bit confused. The question was simple though. Why was Jennifer doing this for her?

"Why am I doing this?" Her steel-blue eyes met Valorie's easily. "Because I can't STAND it when someone's in a brand new place like this, full of sights and sounds and things to do, and decides they would rather be unhappy about something. It just...it boggles my mind!" She was quite animated about the whole thing, using her hands to simulate her brain exploding. "There's a time and a place to be sad, yeah. But that's neither here nor now."

elevated her eyebrows slightly in a mildly intimidated manner as Jennifer explained. She didn't know how to react to this. Jennifer had struck at her less dominant side however, a feet that could never have been accomplished before she'd been broken by wear and tear. This was all helped by a little voice Valorie was no longer sure actually existed encouraging her to open herself up. More choices! She didn't like making choices anymore, but she supposed she had to. She could open herself up and leave herself vulnerable to emotional abuse, or she could lock herself up and swallow the key to prevent further damage to the facility. "...I--You really want to know?" she asked, slightly skeptical. She seemed to be on the verge of trusting Jennifer, but wanted... reassurance?

Jennifer Harsdorff calmed down, trying to get to Valorie's level. She was flailing about far too much...this one needed to be reassured, like a Pokemon that had just lost a battle. Anger was not the answer, but understanding. "If it'll make you feel better, sure, air it out. I'd say to get it off your chest, but that never worked on my roomie in college." Wince. Lots of bitter arguments. "Change is scary, this is true--but frankly, the alternative is a lot worse."

just sort of watched Jennifer for a moment, trying to decipher what she had said. Change..? Change? She had never considered herself afraid of change, but then again the world was still kind of new and scary to her. She'd never admit that though. In her mind, she was an adult now--This was despite her appearance very clearly saying otherwise. She for one had no idea how her complete failure to physically mature had effected her mental growth in turn. After a long moment of thinking she slowly began to spill spaghetti the beans. "...You ever try so hard at something, because it means the world to you and you'd do anything for it, only to look back one day and realize you're not getting any better anymore? That you're just /stuck/, and that you've done the best you possibly can but it isn't enough?" she asked, not wanting to directly admit that she believed she had failed as a trainer. Her pride, it was still there no matter how much she had been humbled.

Jennifer Harsdorff leaned back. "Sometimes I get that feeling, yeah. No matter how hard I try, it doesn't work...and you know what? That's usually the fault of how I'm approaching the problem. In that case, it's time to try something else, provided you have the time and resources to do so. Above all, make sure you've got a solid strategy before you go and try again. It's like fixing a broken chair--you don't just go to town with hammers, nails and glue. You first look at what's broken and go from there."

considered the statement, but found herself repeatedly presuming that she'd already done that. With every consideration came the notion that she'd already tried it and failed. Jennifer could've never understood. How could she? She didn't know... Nobody did. On that note, Valorie shook her head as she started to speak. "...I tried for years--I tried, and I tried, but eventually it stopped working. " she said, disillusioned. Not everyone could be the champion. Some just weren't good enough.

Finally, Jennifer felt like she was making headway. "Whatever you were doing, I'm sure you got very good at it. A lot better than some people thought you would, maybe. You might not have made it to your ultimate goal, but look how far you got while doing it. You probably did some really awesome stuff to get to where you are now, I'd bet." She added a smile to the last part.

"Maybe we should have a quick battle? Get it all out? If I can't get the full story from you, your Pokemon will tell me what I'm missing."

Valorie Ryder listened but said nothing, for she knew not what to say. It was only once Jennifer challenged her to a battle that her attention was coaxed back to the conversation at hand. A battle? She hated battling. It reminded her of what a failure she was. Despite this, she felt inclined to accept. It was a battler's creed, and she had been cooperative so far. Valories in positive motion had a tendency to stay in positive motion. She sighed and stood, brushing herself off briefly as if prepping herself for a show. A show indeed. "Alright..."

Jennifer Harsdorff panted as Valorie's pride and joy Dragonite finally went down to a combination of Stealth Rock and a vicious Retaliate from her Lucario. "I think...I think I get it now. You're upset because you can't beat the League Challenge. Maybe you've even made it to the Champion before but were unable to seal the deal, but you know, there's no shame in that. Just being eligible to take the challenge is an honor, you know?"

Valorie Ryder averted her eyes bitterly. Loss... was a familiar feeling by now, and yet it still sucked even as her body rejected all feelings of emotions in favor of safety in apathy. She resented that Jennifer had read her like a book, resented that she was trying to get her to settle for less. It made her angry, made her want to snap out. She bit her tongue, if only because yelling at this girl wouldn't acomplish anything. That, and Jennifer hadn't quite pierced the true passion behind Valorie's desire. She knew something, but not the complete story. Valorie didn't think she could've emotionally held herself back if someone she barely knew called her out on her deepest feelings. She shook her head dismissively. "Not even." she stated, seeming to imply she hadn't even gotten that far. "...I wanted to be the very best." she continued, gazing off into the distance wistfully

Lucario limped along at Jennifer's side as she crossed the battlefield. "Don't worry, I'm not going to take your money or anything like that. If anything, I feel like I just made your problems worse. You're a great battler--you just need to get your head screwed on straight."

Jennifer Harsdorff beckoned Valorie to follow her one last time, to the Pokémon Center. After that shopping spree, no way would Golden Links take her card. "Just take a few days to get your head together, then come see me again. I'll be in the building with the moving pistons."
